CHAPTER 29: KENSI TALKS TO HER MOM...
THE BULLPEN...
1100 HOURS...
Kensi picked up her phone and walked away from the bullpen. Deeks watched her go with a grin.
"Do you want to tell us what's going on, Deeks?" Callen asked.
"I just suggested that Kensi go see her mom tonight." Deeks replied as his smile faltered and he looked nervously over at Kensi to make sure she was out of earshot.
"That doesn't explain why you are so happy." Callen pointed out.
"I"ve known from the moment I met Kensi that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. So tonight while Kensi is spending time with her mom...I'm going to buy a ring so I can ask her to marry me." Deeks explained once again looking over at Kensi.
"You're going to buy an engagement ring..." Callen began in shock. "And ask Kensi to marry you?" Sam finished.
"Well, I'm not dating any other woman named, Kensi." Deeks joked.
"Just remember what we told you about hurting her." Callen warned. "I don't plan on hurting, Kensi. I love her and the baby we're getting ready to have." Deeks confessed.
"Marriage is a serious step, Deeks." Sam reminded him. "I know, but Kensi and I are already pretty much living together and having a baby...that's just as serious." Deeks pointed out.
A few minutes later Kensi returned to the bullpen.
"What were you three talking about?" Kensi asked as she walked back into the bullpen.
"It's not, Kens." Deeks lied. "Don't lie to me, Deeks. What were you talking about?" Kensi repeated. "I was telling Callen and Sam about a suprise I have in store for you. Want a twinkie?" Deeks asked holding one out to her, Kensi snatched it from him, tore off the wrapper and took a bite.
As Kensi ate the twinkie she silently vowed to find out a way to make Deeks tell her what the surprise was...one way or another.
"Dessert before lunch?" Sam asked. "No, what I gave Kensi was a distraction...ow, really?" Deeks yelped rubbing his shoulder where Kensi had just punched him.
Kensi swallowed her the last bite and then responded.
"Yes, you should know by now not to use food as a distraction and I will not give up until you tell me what you know." Kensi replied, before walking over to her desk and sitting down.
LATER THAT AFTERNOON...
It was almost the end of the day and it seemed they were doomed to finish the day with paperwork.
Though Kensi loved her work, she just couldn't concentrate and was currently lost in her thoughts of what the future could bring.
Deeks was getting bored with trying to work on his own paperwork, Callen was leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed and Sam seemed to be the only getting work done.
Deeks let out a sigh and looked at Kensi with a smile.
"Hey, Kensi..."
Deeks called, but she did not answer.
"...Kensi!" Deeks called again and this time Kensi looked at him. "What?" Kensi asked.
"How about a break?" Deeks suggested.
At Deeks suggestion Sam looked from his almost compete paperwork and Callen opened his eyes.
"How about we all take a break?" Callen suggested. "You've already been taking a long break, G." Sam said with a smile. "I was just closing my eyes for a minute." Callen replied.
"More like the last fifteen." Sam shot back. "I thnk a break is a good idea to help us relax." Callen said before getting up and heading for the gym.
"What? Someone likes my idea?" Deeks joked.
THE END OF THEWORK DAY...
After they had taken a break, the day seemed to move a little faster.
"So edo you me to drop you off at your mom's house or do you want take me home so you can drive yourself?" Deeks asked as they gathered their things. "Just drop me off at my mom's house and I'll see if she will give me a ride later." Kensi replied.
OUTSIDE...
Once they reached outside Kensi handed him the keys and got into the passengers seat.
"You okay, Partner?" Deeks asked as he got into the drivers seat. "Yeah, I'm good. I'm just tired. So what are you going to do while I'm visiting my mom?" Kensi asked.
"Work on that surprise I have for you and before you ask I'm not going to tell you what it is." Deeks replied with a grin.
"Oh, so you're going to clean my apartment and spend time with Monty?" Kensi shot back with a grin of her own. "After I get your surprise ready and remind me again why I am cleaning your apartment." Deeks said glancing over at her.
"Because you offered and besides you have been living with me for the past few days. We need to start looking for a house, so we can move in and get settled before baby Ray gets here." Kensi reminded him as they pulled up in front of Julia's house.
"I know and we will. I'll see you later, Kensalina." Deeks promised and leaned over to give what started to be a gentle kiss, but quickly became passionate.
After a minute they pulled apart breathless.
"I-I guess I better go let my mom know I am here." Kensi said reaching for the door handle to open the door.
"I love you, Kensi and I hope you never forget that." Deeks told her and Kensi looked back at him in confusion. "What makes you think I would forget, Deeks?" Kensi asked worried. "Nothing, I just want you to know how much I love you." Deeks told her.
"Does this have something to do with what you, Callen and Sam were talking about?" Kensi asked. "Ah-ah, I already told you that I am not going to tell you what the surprise is. You will just have to wait and find out." Deeks told her and Kensi rolled her eyes, before finally getting out of the car.
"I'll see you later, Deeks." Kensi said. "Bye." Deeks told her as Kensi closed the door and headed up the walk to her mother's house.
Kensi knocked and it wasn't long before the door opened revealing Julia Feldman.
"Hi, are you okay? You sounded upset when you called earlier." Julia said stepping back to let Kensi in and leading the way to the liviing room.
THE LIVING ROOM...
"I keep having nightmares and in every nightmare...Deeks leaves me for some reason or gets killed because I'm stuck on desk duty and can't watch his back." Kensi confessed as she felt tears in her eyes again.
"I remember Agents Callen and Hanna. I know you can't watch Marty's back, but I am sure they will not let anything happen to Marty." Julia tried to reassure her daughter.
"There are no gaurentees, mom, one day Deeks could go in the field, get seperated from the team somehow and get killed...then I would have to raise baby Ray on my own." Kensi said as the tears started to fall.
"Right now you are both working two job, Kensi." Julia said at first Kensi was confused, until she realized what her mother was talking about.
"A federal Agent and being pregnant?" Kensi asked and Julia nodded. "By staying on desk duty you are keeping the baby safe, while Marty and the rest of your co workers go chase down the bad guys on the street." Julia said and Kensi thought about what her mother had just said for a moment.
"It's still hard. Deeks also told me I will be a good mom, but that's something else that scares me. I'm not even sure I'm ready to be a mom and the other part of me can't wait to meet Ray." Kensi confessed.
"Ray?" Julia asked in confusion. "Deeks and I have to decided to call the baby Ray for now, since we don't know if Ray is a boy or girl yet. We couldn't just keep calling Ray 'the baby' or 'it'. So Deeks came up with the name Ray." Kensi explained.
"How about we go eat dinner?" Julia suggested and it was then that Kensi's stomach gave a loud growl making Kensi and her mom laugh.
So Julia and Kensi headed for the kithen to the dinner that Julia had prepared and was keeping warm in the oven.
"Thanks for listening to me mom." Kensi said as they reached the kitchen.
