SUMMARY:
Kensi and Deeks are having a movie night at his apartment, he tells her something before she leaves. What does Deeks tell her and what will happen?
CHAPTER 37: THE CHOICE...
THE PRECINT PARKING LOT...
DEEKS CAR...
Deeks pulled into a parking space at the precint, but still had yet to get out of the car and go meet with Bates.
He kept thinking back to what Kensihad said before he left.
FLASHBACK *
"Who was that?" Kensi asked already fearing the answer. "Bates...Kens, he wants me to meet with him tonight and go undercover." Deeks said. "H-how long?" Kensi asked. "I don't know, Fern. He didn't give me any details on the phone." Deeks replied with a shrug.
"Don't go, Deeks. If you sign papers to become an NCIS Agent...the LAPD can't take you away again." Kensi said.
"I-I can't do that, Kens. Being a cop is a part of..." Deeks began. "NCIS is the Navy verison of being a cop, Deeks. You would still be a cop and you said yourself half the LAPD hates you." Kensi reasoned.
"Becoming an NCIS is a big decision. I'll do this one last assignment for Bates and then think about it, okay?" Deeks asked stepping forward to give her a gentle kiss on the lips, but Kensi pulled back before his lips met hers.
* END FLASHBACK
'Had he been selfish ealier when he decided to go undercover?
It wasn't just him anymore, it was now him, Kensi, Monty and baby Ray. Deeks now knew what he had to do.'
When he came out of his thoughts and looking at the time, he realized he had been sitting in his car for the past ten minutes...he was late meeting with Bates.
So getting out of the car Deeks made his way into the precint and to Bates office.
BATES OFFICE...
Deeks made his way into Bates office and took a seat in a chair across from Bates.
"Glad you could come, Deeks..." Bates began, but Deeks wanted to get straight to the point.
"I'm sorry, but I can't go undercover." Deeks said and Bates looked at him in shock.
"Deeks, I need ou on this. You're one of my best dectectives." Bates tried, but Deeks was already shaking his head.
"For the past few years I've been a liaison between the LAPD and NCIS. I feel more at home at NCIS I have a family..." Deeks started to explain.
"Does this have something to do with your partner at NCIS?" Bates asked and Deeks gave a small smile.
"As a matter of fact...it does. Kensi is not only my work partner, but also my fiancee and soon to be the mother of my child. I can't leave while she's pregnant or ever again. You can have my gun and badge...because I'mgoing to sign the papers and become an NCIS Agent." Deeks said hoping Bate would understand.
"So you're letting Hetty and NCIS steal one of my best detectives?" Bates asked. "They never stole me. It's just where I belong now." Deeks said and Bates gave a sigh.
"You're kind of leaving me in a bind here with having to find another detective to send on this assignment, Deeks. Are you sure you can't go on this one last assignment?" Bates asked.
"I don't think it would be a good idea, because I would be too distracted and something could happen to jeopardize the investigation." Deeks explained. "All right, I'll see what I can do about finding another detective." Bates said and with a nod Deeks got up to leave.
Deeks walked out of the precint with a smile on his face at how surprised Kensi was going to be.
DEEKS CAR...
Deeks got into his car and headed back to Kensi's apartment, knowing he would have to wait until tomorrow to go to NCIS and sign the paperwork to become an NCIS Agent.
The drive seemed to take forever and it seemed he was getting stuck at every red light. It felit like someone was playing a cruel joke on him with the stop lights.
Finally Deeks pulled up in front of Kensi's apartment and shut off the car. Then getting out he headed up the walk and used his key to open the door.
KENSI'S APARTMENT...
JUST INSIDE THE DOOR...
He made his way into the apartment where he found Kensi sitting on the couch with Monty and her gun pointed at him.
"Jeeze, Kensi, are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Deeks asked and Kensi lowered her gun. "What are you doing here?" Kensi asked and he could tell she was still upset with him.
"Kensi..." Deeks began. "I thought you had an assignment with the LAPD...since your job is more important then your family." Kensi said and Deeks took the lowered gun from her and then set it down, before sitting down on the couch beside her.
"My job is not more importnant then you, our baby or everyone else I consider family. I told Bates I couldn't go undercover and tomorrow I will be handing in my resignantion to the LAPD." Deeks explained and Kensi looked at him in shock unsure if she had heard him right.
"You did what?" Kensi asked. "Once I give the LAPD my letter of resignantion, I am going to sign the papers and become an NCSI Agent." Deeks replied. "Are you doing this because I want you to?" Kensi asked.
"No, I am doing this because NCIS is my home and more like a family to me, then the LAPD was. I don't want to miss a moment of you being pregnant, because the LAPD wants me to go undercover for who knows how long. Before you ask yes I'm sure. Being a cop is part of who I am, but my family is more important." Deeks said as he took Kensi's hands in his own.
Kensi looked at him as a smile started to cross her face.
"So you're not going under for the LAPD?" Kensi asked again. "Nope, I told Bates my family is more important." Deeks said pressing his lips to hers and smiling against her lips when her felt her kiss him back.
