Act III:

Eight minutes later...

Julia, Anya, and Mattie get out of the woods. They see a mostly jet black diner with silvery web like lines and a red neon lit roof.

The diner has a mostly red lined neon sign with western styled yellow shooting stars. The name "Shooting Stars Diner" is written across the top of the diner.

Julia concludes, "okay. We're here now. Don't talk to anybody else except to order."

Mattie is quick to assume, "we're in countryside. No one from a city is gonna track us down here that fast."

Anya considers, "still... Remember to keep a eye out for any sign of trouble."

Mattie lightly goes, "oh, I will have cherry pie!"

The three girls are heading into the diner.

Anya remarks, "why does the design of this place make me think Spider-man but emo?"

Mattie and Julia just lightly shrug. Anya nervously chuckles a little.

In the diner... A StarGate Radio Mix of the song Scandalous by Mis-Teeq is playing on the radio.

The walls are mostly jet black with shooting stars across. The tables and countertops are mostly bright red. The booths are jet black with silvery lines. The bar area has red lined jet black diner stools.

At a near whisper... Anya suggests, "let's sit at the bar. Less chance of being surprised by Morlun."

Julia is quick to add, "good idea."

The three girls sit at the bar area.

A waitress offers, "there you go."

She gives the three of them menus.

Julia checks, "should we make a backup game plan?"

Mattie assumes, "eat first. Strategize more later."

They all look at the menus.

Not long after...

The waitress brings over six entrees and a side dish of mac and cheese. There's also three glasses of water.

Mattie adds, "keep it coming."

She puts on the counter some 100 dollar bills from her pocket.

Mattie lays out, "500 dollars to cover everything we've ordered so far. Keep the change."

With a wide smile... The waitress lightly goes, "thank you very much! You girls come back any time."

The three girls smile back.

The waitress goes in the kitchen to get three more entrees.

Julia is eating mozzarella sticks and a bowl of spaghetti with asteroid shaped meatballs. Mattie is eating fries, a hot dog in a rocket shaped bun, and the side dish of mac and cheese. Anya is eating fries and a double burger with bacon, lettuce, and tomato.

Julia concludes, "let's eat quickly and then get out of here. Cassie could be back by then."

Mattie deduces, "absolutely a great idea. Right after cherry pie."

With some mixed feelings... Anya warns, "no! I may be tempted to get a slice of the lightyear blueberry and vanilla cake. But, we can't stay that long. No cherry pie."

Mattie urges, "Julia? Tell me you agree that we should get dessert."

Julia is staring at a booth with teenage guys in sports themed open jackets.

Sounding distracted... Julia awkwardly responds, "yeah. What... Whatever you girls are arguing about now? I'm sure both of you make really good points."

Mattie looks amused. Julia grins. Anya looks confused.

Several minutes later...

Mattie suggests to Julia, "you know... We should go over there and talk to them."

The three girls have finished half of the entrees by now. Julia looks wide eyed in shock.

With some mixed feelings... Julia thinks out loud, "really? No, we can't. I... Should we?"

Anya answers, "no, we can't."

With a grin... Mattie lightly presses to Julia, "hey. You're in charge. And, you know you want to."

She and Julia get up from the table.

Anya somewhat tensely insists, "Julia? Please! This is not a good idea tonight."

Mattie tries to assure, "come on. It's living a little more."

Anya points out, "we're already taking one big risk tonight. Come on!"

Julia asks in concern, "what are you doing?"

Mattie is taking Julia's glasses.

Mattie assures, "they're still in one piece. It's just a little confidence boost."

Mattie folds up Julia's glasses. Mattie puts them in one of her own pockets.

Julia awkwardly checks, "are you sure?"

Mattie concludes, "you look cuter this way." Julia lightly says, "really?"

Anya kind of loudly argues, "this is not a good idea, girls!"

Julia whispers, "Anya... I may be bisexual. Please don't hate me."

Anya puts a comforting hand on hers.

Anya points out, "I don't hate you Julia. I just... Moderate sigh. I'm worrying about you and Mattie."

Julia makes a awkward face.

Mattie suggests, "well... You can warn us if Morlun or Cassie come through the door."

Julia all too lightly says, "okay! You've convinced me. Let's go meet some boys." Mattie lightly goes, "great!"

Julia lets Mattie lead her to the teenage boys. Both girls are smiling.

Mattie introduces herself and Julia to the teenage boys. They say hello back.

Mattie asks, "can we sit here?"

All the teenage boys in the booth are smiling wide at her and Julia.

One of the teenage boys figures, "sure. We've been saving seats for you."

Mattie adds, "awesome."

She and Julia sit at the booth with the teenage boys.

Anya sarcastically mutters, "great. Just great! ! Leaving me on lookout duty."

She frustratedly sighs.

She finishes eating her New Yorker pastrami sandwich.

Meanwhile...

A guy at the diner calls the police about possibly seeing the same three girls the news said were abducted by a Cassie lookalike.

Jill alerts Morlun to the call. It's coming from Churchill, New Jersey.

Jill hacks into police dispatch for the New Jersey city of Churchill for Morlun.

Over comlink... Morlun says, "no need to send police to the Shooting Stars Diner. These are not our missing persons. I repeat: These are not our missing persons."

And... He says all of this while creepily imitating the voice of the police officer he drained of psychokinetic energy.

Morlun drives a black car fast from a street corner in New Jersey. He's going to the Shooting Stars Diner.

Not long after, back in the nearby woods...

Cassie and Jersey return to the taxi with a gas container, her backup pair of surgical rubber gloves, and some water bottles.

Cassie puts the water bottles in the back of the taxi. She uses her backup surgical gloves to fill it up with gas.

She throws the back up surgical gloves into a empty glove compartment of the taxi. She plans to throw out the gasoline smelling gloves later.

Cassie lightly calls out, "girls? I brought gas and water!"

No answer.

Cassie worriedly calls out, "girls?!"

Jersey whines a little. Cassie makes a nervous face.

Cassie mutters under her breath, "goddamn it! !"

She briefly gets in the taxi to turn on the headlights. She looks around the taxi for clues.

And... She notices three sets of footprints in the dirt heading in the direction of the diner.

Cassie quickly turns back off the headlights of the taxi.

Cassie instructs, "Jersey? Stay here. I'll be back soon enough. Bark loudly if you see Morlun coming after me. I'm going to the diner to get the girls."

At the same time... She's petting Jersey a lot.

Jersey somewhat nervously nods.

She licks Cassie's hand.

Cassie just says, "good girl."

And... Cassie runs in the direction of the diner.

After a bit... Cassie reaches the diner.

From a diner window... She sees the three girls dancing on the booth table where the teenage boys are.

With some mixed feelings... She comments, "so much for not attracting attention. Moderate sigh. I wish I knew what normal teenage life was...like."

Suddenly... Cassie sees flashes of blurry spider webs, a curtain of darkness, and a bright light.

She sees Morlun getting out of his car by the diner. She hears the three girls screaming in their dying breaths.

Cassie gasps. She is getting teary eyed.

She fast walks into the diner.

In the diner... The song Toxic by Britney S. is playing on the radio.

Julia awkwardly says, "guys? I don't even know that dance move." Mattie is quick to say, "I would."

Anya suddenly notices Cassie coming into the diner.

Anya taps Julia on the shoulder.

Anya apologizes, "I'm sorry guys. We have...to go."

Cassie is annoyedly glaring at the three girls. They all make nervous faces.

Almost at the same time... Anya and Julia say, "I'm so sorry."

Cassie concludes, "we'll talk about why you're being so reckless later. We got to go now! ! !"

The three girls quickly get off the table.

Just then... Morlun violently grabs a waitress at a booth by the throat.

He's already walked into the diner. He's using his mystically glowing near blackish green fingernails to pull psychokinetic pulsing red energy out of the waitress in his hand.

She is screaming in her dying breath. Brief flashes of dark red liquid splatter.

Everyone else in the diner looks wide eyed in shock. Several screams are heard.

With a vicious glare... Morlun warns, "the girls are mine. Everyone else get out. Run! !"

He drops the dead waitress on the ground.

A crowd of people and diner staff run in a panic for the doors.

Getting teary eyed... Julia apologizes, "I'm so sorry Cassie! ! I was just trying to..."

Cassie puts a comforting hand on hers.

Cassie tries to assure, "Julia? I'll listen to your story when we're safe and sound. Okay?"

Julia quickly nods.

Mattie quickly hands Julia back her glasses. Julia quickly puts her glasses back on.

Cassie calls out, "come on girls! Go! ! Go! !"

She starts to lead the three girls out of the diner.

But... Morlun is standing in the way.

At the same time... Cassie is hearing in slow motion the song Toxic by Britney S.

With a creepy smile... Morlun taunts, "Cassie Web. Do you think you really know your mother? Your future? Well... Laugh. What matters now is your future is you and all three girls dying by my hand! !"

He's about to violently grab Cassie and Julia with both hands.

Mattie calls out, "Cassie! Julia! Get back! !"

She has picked up three glass bottles of Coca Cola from a booth. She violently throws them one by one at Morlun's head.

Morlun easily deflects all three bottles with ease with his fingernails.

But... It buys Cassie and the three girls time to try to run out of the diner.

Anya makes it out.

Cassie calls out, "Mattie, go! Me and Julia will hold him off."

Mattie quickly nods.

Cassie tries to violently punch Morlun. Julia tries to violently jump kick Morlun.

But... Morlun easily dodges them both.

And... Before Julia can react?

Morlun jump flips onto the ceiling while grabbing Julia.

It turns out Morlun took off his shoes and socks as soon as he walked into the diner. His feet have tiny but super strong spider tendrils.

Cassie worriedly calls out, "Julia! !"

Julia tries to violently side kick off of Morlun to get out of his grasp.

Cassie quickly climbs onto the bar counter. She jumps off of the bar counter to try to jump tackle Morlun down.

But... Morlun is faster.

He violently hurls Julia across the diner.

And... Morlun jump flips back down to the floor to dodge Cassie.

Cassie crash lands on the floor.

She's groaning violently and clutching her side. Her vision is blurring.

Julia crash lands into a back wall. A sickening snap is heard.

She falls dead.

Anya, Mattie, and Cassie cry out, "no! ! !"

Tears are falling from their faces.

Mattie cries out, "this is for Julia, you bastard! ! !"

She tries to shove a water nozzle from the back of the diner down Morlun's throat. Anya quickly turns on the water with a switch.

But... Morlun quickly slashes the water nozzle's tube with his fingernails.

A gust of water bursts out of a hole in the water nozzle.

And... Mattie is sent violently flying into the bar counter.

A sickening snap. She falls dead.

Morlun violently grabs Cassie.

He's about to drain the psychokinetic energy from her.

But... Just then... Cassie sees flashes of blurry spider webs, a curtain of darkness, and a bright light.

Presently, out in the physical...

Cassie is standing in front of the taxi with Jersey nearby. Cassie is clutching her chest.

She looks wide eyed in shock from the vision she just saw. She moves her arms away from her chest.

And... From the radio in the taxi?

She hears the radio broadcast imply, "Are you in the zone? This is Britney..."

Cassie kind of slowly turns to the taxi.

And... The song Toxic by Britney S. is starting to play from the radio.

Cassie breathes a very mixed sigh of relief. She knows for sure now the sight of herself and the girls dying around her at the diner was all a vision.

Cassie checks, "Jersey? Did you hear me tell you to stay here?"

Jersey gives her a confused look. Cassie telling her to stay by the taxi and wait for her was part of the vision too.

Cassie assures, "sorry Jersey. I don't mean to confuse you. Let's try to save the girls again."

At the same time... She's petting Jersey a lot.

Jersey lightly barks.

She licks Cassie's hand.

With a smile... Cassie says, "good girl. Now get in. Please."

Jersey climbs over to sit on the front seat opposite of the driver's seat. Cassie gets into the driver's seat.

Cassie buckles up.

And... She drives the taxi fast for the diner: Past a few cars and a logging truck.

Meanwhile, back at the diner...

Mattie says, "I love this song."

Mattie and Julia start to dance. Most of the teenage boys are grinning.

One of the teenage boys says, "nice."

With a grin... Julia adds, "thank you."

Mattie concludes, "okay. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I have to get on here."

She gets up onto the table at the booth. The teenage boys move their drinks and plates off the table to give her room.

Mattie lightly suggests, "come on, Julia. Party with me, girl!"

She helps Julia onto the table.

Julia somewhat nervously goes, "okay. If you're sure... Let's kick it."

She and Mattie start dancing on the table. The teenage boys are cheering them on.

With a jealous glare... Anya mutters under her breath, "I can't take this anymore."

Anya fast walks over to the table.

She tries to calmly say, "come on girls. Let's go."

Mattie smiles wide. Julia nervously grins.

Mattie suggests, "Anya? Come on. Join the party. Don't even pretend that you can't dance like Britney. I know you can."

With a smile... Anya figures, "well... I suppose one little dance couldn't hurt us."

She gets up on the table.

Soon... All three girls are dancing and lip syncing to the song Toxic by Britney S.

Julia even does a pretend diving underwater move. Anya chuckles at that.

Suddenly... Morlun violently grabs a waitress at a booth by the throat.

He's already walked into the diner. He starts to use his mystically glowing near blackish green fingernails to pull psychokinetic pulsing red energy out of the waitress in his hand.

She starts screaming.

And... From the taxi... Cassie calls out, "let her go, grim reaper guy! !"

Everyone in the diner is looking wide eyed in shock at Morlun. Several screams are heard.

Anya nervously says, "girls? We got to go: Now! !"

At the same time... Cassie violently rams the taxi into Morlun by surprise.

He reactively drops the waitress on the ground.

She's coughing violently some. She has a few deep dark red cuts on her sides.

But... She is alive.

Two waitresses quickly carry her out of the diner. They're calling a ambulance for her.

Most of the bar area and the front entrance is wrecked. Mattie's skateboard is wrecked under a bar stool.

Most everyone is running out of the diner in a panic.

Cassie worriedly calls out, "girls? Get in! Take the backpacks if you have to. Don't stop for anything else! ! Get in! ! Hurry!"

Morlun is lying unconscious on the floor.

But... He is kind of quickly starting to move his hands and feet again.

Julia, Anya, and Mattie quickly grab their backpacks and put them on their shoulders. They hurry into the back of the taxi.

Getting teary eyed... Julia says, "I'm so sorry, Cassie."

Cassie drives the taxi fast backwards out of the diner.

Soon... She's heading miles away from Morlun.

Several minutes later...

Morlun is fully conscious.

He gets back up. He puts back on his shoes and socks.

He hears police sirens and ambulance sirens. He makes a run for his car.

He is driving fast away from the diner. He looks upset and impatient.

Morlun tensely asks, "Jill... Where did they go?"

Over comlink... Jill tells him, "I'm running checks now. And... I've already got more information on Cassandra Web."

Morlun concludes, "I'm not interested in her. Focus on finding those girls."

Jill points out, "Cassandra Web made a phone call to Julia Cornwall's dad days before we located all three girls at the subway."

Morlun says, "okay. I'm interested. Keep going."

Jill explains, "Cassandra told Julia's dad that Julia Cornwall went missing. Security cameras at a hospital confirm Julia, her dad, and her stepbrother, first saw Cassandra there. Julia's dad showed a clear sign of verbal abuse toward Julia. The next day? Julia, with a school backpack, takes the subway in the direction of Julia's apartment. Security cameras by Julia's school didn't show Julia's dad or a school bus taking Julia to school that day. I think Julia ran away to Cassandra to get away from her dad."

Morlun considers, "I see. This can only mean one thing for my future: Cassandra Web is going to become the leader of the Spider-Women assassins. To save myself and the world from them? I have to kill her too."

In Jill's apartment... Jill makes a nervous face.

Jill implies, "you know... There is a third way you haven't thought of."

Morlun argues, "like what? You know my visions of my death haven't changed."

Jill suggests, "you can talk to Cassandra Web. Try to convince her to walk away. If you do before the Spider-Women officially become a team? No Spider-Women team will exist to kill you. And, you win."

Morlun laughs. He looks slightly amused.

Morlun responds, "okay. For you? I'll give Cassandra Web one chance. But, that's it."

Jill adds, "thank you."

With mixed feelings... Jill is thinking to herself, "I hope Morlun doesn't have to kill Cassandra Web. Heavy sigh. From Cassandra Web's exemplary record as a paramedic? I know for sure she has a good heart. She doesn't have to die: Not if I or those girls can help it."

Meanwhile, back with Cassie...

Julia explains, "Cassie? I was just trying to be a good leader in case something happened to you and Jersey. I'm so sorry!"

Cassie heavily sighs. Anya, Mattie, and Julia make very nervous faces.

They're all teary eyed.

After a bit... Cassie reflects, "being a leader is far from easy for me either. Moderate sigh. I'll forgive all of you."

Mattie awkwardly asks, "really? Just like that?"

Julia somewhat shakily says, "thank you Cassie."

Cassie voices, "I know you all mean well, girls. It's just that... God! Your futures were almost...you dying. Hard sniffle. You're lucky I saw them."

Some tears fall from all of their faces. Mattie and Anya very nervously gulp.

Mattie solemnly concludes, "I know you say you forgive us. Still... I... I'm sorry too."

Anya solemnly says, "me too. We... We really can't thank you enough, Cassie."

Cassie bittersweetly smiles.

Cassie reflects, "I still don't understand normal teenage life. Just... Heavy sigh. Please try to be not too impulsive next time. That's all I'm asking."

Almost at the same time... Anya and Julia say, "we will."

Mattie adds, "me too."

They're all bittersweetly smiling now. The teariness in their eyes is slowly but surely drying up.

And... Julia finally puts her glasses back on.
