Chapter 3: Rangers
Zack looked to his black Zord before an idea popped into his head and he smirked.
Soon after, the Black Mastodon burst out from the mountain side. Zack yelled as he skids across the landscape in the 30 meter tall Zord
"This is a bad idea. Ok, OK, uh, signals, brakes", Zack yells in distress as he haphazardly tries to pilot the Zord. The thick legged beastial vehicle was surpisingly versatile and quick footed. "Manual, manual!", Zack yells at the console for instructions to drive, "Where's the brakes, Alpha 5?!", as he then yells as the Mastodon went over a mountain top.
He then uncontrollably skids down the mountain towards a road where a van was driving.
"Ah! Oh, crap!", he screams as he sees the van, "Hey! Move! Move!", as he waves to the truck to get out of the way, "Get out of the way", the van tries ahead as he drifts behind it. The nuns inside were distracted as they were singing
Back with the others
".. you have to remember that in today's training", Alpha 5 tells the four rangers and looks back to them, "The important thing is to...", before he notices, "Wait. Where's Zack?", he asks them.
Jason looks behind them, "Seriously?", he asks in disbelief.
Soon after, the cave wall bursts open as debri flies towards them as they then ran.
"Run, run, run!", Kimberly yells.
"Run!", Alpha 5 yells as well as the five move to avoid the crashing Zord.
The five get over a rock formation as the Mastodon Zord skids to a stop just before them with dust flying and Zack yelping from inside it.
Some of the others were coughing a fit from the dust before it settles.
"You alright?", Kimberly asks Trini as the four teens recover while Alpha 5 was shaking off the crap ton of dust that coated him.
"Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi", Alpha 5 says in exacerbation at the scene.
"Whoo", Zack whoops as he leaves from the Mastodon Zord cockpit till he sees the other Rangers, "All right, my bad, my bad. That's on me, right there", gesturing to the Zord.
"What's your problem?!", Trini yells at Zack.
"You could have killed yourself. Or Us", Jason says in anger as he approaches the reckless driver.
"Back off, boss man", Zack says as he pushes pass him.
"Hey!", and Jason grabs him by his shoulder, before sucker punching Zack in the face.
"Oh, come on, guys", Billy says before Zack sucker punches Jason, "Wow"
"Guys, guys, guys, come on!", Trini tries to get between them but Zack pushes her aside.
"Watch it!", Zack says before ducking a back hand from Jason and throwing a straight at his face,
"Wait. What are you doing?", Alpha 5 questions their actions.
Billy begins to enter a panicked state while Zack and Jason continue to punch one another, eventually he had enough of two he considered friends hurting each other.
He rushes in between them and pushes them away from each other, "Will you guys just stop fighting, please!", he pleads with his head down and eyes closed to try and calm himself.
However, this alone isn't what caused them to stop. Something happened to Billy while the other four teens could only watch in stunned silence, with their excitement rising as they watch the suit of a Power Ranger form around Billy.
Billy begins to open his eyes again at the gasps of excitement he heard, "What?", he asks them.
"That's dope", Trini comments with a smile at the blue suit Billy now wore.
"What?", Billy asks again as he doesn't know that he wore a alien suit with a Triceratops themed helmet, showing that it doesn't alter his vision or obscure it, "I got something on my fa..", Billy goes to touch his face but trails off as he sees his white gloved hand with Blue diamond decals leading to a blue suit with a metallic sheen. "Whoa!", he yells out in shock.
"Yeah!", Zack cheers for Billy.
"Okay, now that's cool", Billy exclaims cause of the suit he manifested. He holds his arms out to look at his suit more, "Oh, yeah!", he cheers.
"Hold still", Zack intructs as he approaches to touch the suit.
"No, no Zack, don't touch it. Zack, do not touch it", Billy warns before the suit begins to disappear before Zack touches his suit.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!", they all yell out as the suit disappears completely, leaving normal Billy Cranston in its place.
"Where'd it go?", Zack asks, "Bring it back. Bring it back, dude", ending with a small chuckle in his throat.
"Get out", Zordon orders to them, "Training is over for today. Go home".
Kimberly stands onto a higher rock to speak up to Zordon, "I'm sorry. He-he just morphed", pointing at Billy, "He did it. You saw it, right?"
"Do it again", Zordon states, as though it wasn't a big deal before getting more aggressive, "All of you. Any of you".
Jason turns to Billy, "Billy", drawing his attention, "Billy, how did you do it?".
"Come on Billy, let's do it", Zack encourages as the girls also turn to Billy.
Billy uncomfortably stands and shifts on his feet.
"Just show us what you did", Jason calmly instructs.
"Come on. Do it again", Zack pressures on some while Kimberly sighs while stepping down from her rock.
Billy had his eyes close in concentration to morph.
"Do it again!", Zack pressures.
"I'm trying, I'm trying!", Billy calls out, "I can't focus!"
Jason stopped Billy as he saw he was uncomfortable. Billy looks to Jason, disappointed that he couldn't do it again.
"Okay, we don't know how", Jason announces to Zordon.
"That's what I thought", Zordon remarks to the teens, "If you can't morph, you are not Rangers. Go home. All of you".
The teens became disappointed and aggravated.
"Damn", Zack sounds, wiping his head.
"Seriously?!", Trini vocalized while Kimberly just sighs.
The other leaves as Jason stays for a moment
Trini, Kimberly, Billy, and Zack were walking down the hill to back home before Zack stopped them.
"Hey, guys...", he calls out to them, they stop and turn to him, "Guys, look, uh...", he stumbles with his words a bit, "I'ma stay up here tonight. Make a fire. I got some food if you guys want to stay", he offers the others.
"I'm done", Trini accepts with Billy agreeing, while Kimberly looks down before following.
Back in the Command Center, Zordon was speaking with Alpha 5 as he enters the room.
"Jason's team is failing", Zordon states, "I shall destroy Rita myself. There must be a way to free me from this wall!"
"Yes,", Alpha 5 expresses, "The irony is that you need these Rangers to morph", unaware of Jason approaching the control room, "If they morph, you can harness that energy to regenerate your body and come back through.
"There's got to be another way! I can't...", Zordon goes before Jason cuts him off.
What, Zordon? You can't what?", Jason calls out, announcing he's there, "Wait for us dumb kids to morph so you can come back to life?", his voice loud in anger as he steps down the steps, "That's what this has all been about right?", Alpha 5 began to look between the two Red Rangers in a state of conflict as Jason continues, "You coming back?"
Zordon shifts his wall presence to get closer to Jason, "This has only ever been about protecting the crystal. Rita and her minions could be gaining power as we speak."
"Don't underestimate me or my team", Jason tells him.
"You can't stop Goldar", Zordon dismisses the attempt, "She will have him dig u the crystal and life on Earth will die."
"And we need you", Jason doubts, "Because you were so successful at stopping her last time".
"I died burying those coins", Zordon states, "in hopes they would find the next real Rangers. Those who are worthy".
"Well, sorry to disappoint you", Jason anger boils over as he now leaves, "I'm not going to stand here and have you tell me what I did wrong. I suffered that enough".
"Jason", Zordon calls out to him, "You need me out of this wall. To help leads this team."
"You team's dead", Jason reminds him, "And you're just as scared as we are", and leaves, with Alpha sagging down in sadness.
Elsewhere, a couple were looking at gold rings in a jewelry store where Rita walks in with her almost complete golden staff with what looks like a crescent moon shape on top of it, while she held a ruby looking jewel in hand.
The manager, or is it the jeweler, takes notice of her as she was in dark red rag for clothes and was walking around barefoot. Rita's face also appeared scarred but recovering. She looked through the gold in the jewelry cases while the woman of the couple notices her and becomes wide eye.
"I'll be right back", the jeweler tells the couple, wide-eyed in a similar state to the other female, before approaching the mystical woman, "Uh, can I help you", she asks her.
Rita's piercing eyes looked to the jeweler, "Gold", she says in a creepy manner, "I'm interested in gold".
The jeweler stiffens in fear for a second before saying, "Yeah", and going to collect some to show, while secretly pushing the silent alarm for the police to come.
Rita tas her fingers on the glass in an impatient manner while the jeweler shakily grabs some golden jewelry.
She stands back up with a trey of gold and shows it to Rita, "We have some very nice pieces here", she tells her, trying to still act like a salesperson to keep up appearances.
Rita began to taste and consume the jewelry to test if it's real gold, which disturbs the jeweler but she remains quiet. Rita moves her hands as they seem to regenerate from the scar tissue. She then caresses the jewlers face before grabbing onto the woman's gold necklaces.
"This, Give it to me!", Rita demands.
"Okay, here you go!", the jeweler quickly takes them off and gives Rita her necklaces.
Rita then melts the gold in her hand as the it was water, where it then spills onto her staff, increasing the jeweler's fear.
"Grow, grow", Rita commands as her staff forms and is completed, she goes to place the ruby into the crescent shape.
"Police! Don't Move!", an officer demands as he has arrived on the scene, the Jeweler puts her hands up to show she wasn't a criminal. "Drop your... Weapon", he paused as he sees the gold staff, "and put your hands on your head. Do it now", his shotgun was aimed at Rita as she slowly turns to him, "Do what I say, Lady!".
"Lady?", Rita questions the word with a smile, "I like the sound of ""Lady"".
"Get on the ground and you won't get hurt", the cop demands of her.
She only laughs as she bring sher staff before her. The officer shoots her with and the buck shot slams into her and she flies through the glass case of jewelry.
"Unit 5, I need backup at Fenix Jewelers", the officer says into his walkie-talkie as Rita starts to get up, unharmed, as the jeweler moans in despair, "Shots fired. I repeat, shots fired.".
Rita slams the ruby into its place on her staff, "Goldar", she calls out, revealing the blue skinned beast faced monster behind the officer.
Goldar grabs the officer and throws him through the window and into the police car, knocking him out.
"It's been to long", Rita moans as her powers return in force as the glass around the jeweler store smash out.
She soon leaves with the near naked Goldar, the other occupants ran as the the jewelry store soon begins to burn before spreading to the squad car and then both blew up.
Rita and Goldar are soon greeted by the three other creatures they were sealed with, "Squatt, Babbo, Finster", Rita greets as they had separate to get themselves some clothes.
Squat was a blue skin hobgoblin like creature with a massive underbite with his teeth sticking out of his mouth. He wore human clothes that made him look like an armored apocalyptic biker. Probably raided a cosplay store or something.
Baboo was a bat-monkey monster, blue skinned with blackish bio-armor that he just has. he wore a monocle over his left eye and a pocket watch strapped over his chest.
Finster was a white skinned leprechaun like monster with pointed ears and a white beard. He wore a blue durag on his head along with some blue slack pants and a white shirt with black sleeves. He also wore a jean like utility apron that held a multitude of tools. He also had on a pair of reading glasses on his face.
"Finster, prepare for Putty production", she commands of him.
"At once, Mistress", Finster replies.
Up in the mountains, the four Rangers were all laughing and having a good time around a campfire.
"All right", Zack says before sounding like Zordon, "If I wasn't stuck in this wall I could eat all that junk food".
Jason then walks up to them and the fire.
"What happened back there?", Zack asks him as Jason seems disappointed.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it", Jason waves off and sits down nearby. "Billy, How'd you do it?", he looks to the teen, "How'd you morph?"
Billy looks around at the others before shaking his head, "I don't no".
"What are you guys thinking about when we're trying to morph?", Jason asks everyone.
""You must shed your masks to wear this suit"", Kimberly quotes Zordon as she adds more wood to the fire, and they all chuckle at her.
""Think only of each other and the Morphin Grid will open to you"", Zack quotes as they laugh.
"Yeah, that's better", Kimberly smiles before sitting again.
"Well, maybe it's because we don't know each other", Zack suggests, "Maybe that's why we can't morph".
"Okay", Kimberly dismisses after getting something from Billy.
"No, I'm serious", Zack stands, "Let's do this. For real."
"WHat?", Kimberly mouths, silently questioning him.
"I'm Zack. And I am a Power Ranger.", Zack begins, though the others laugh due to the beginning.
"Hi, Zack", the other four say to him.
"Truth", Zack continues, "I live in the Melody Mobile Home Park. It's just me and my mom", looking to the other Rangers, "And my mom? My mother's the best!", he yells out into the night sky as it echoes down the mountains, "But my mom, she's sick", his voice wobbles as he tries not to cry, "I do what I can, but... But I'm scared", the others remain silent as the weight of what said sinks in while Zack sits again.
"Sometimes I get too scared to stay there at night, 'cause... I'm afraid she can't make it.", he cries a little, "And if she goes... When she goes, I got nobody else", the others could only be somberly quiet as Zack looks among them, "Look, I think being around you guys is good for me."
Billy thought for a moment before saying, "Let's do that", drawing the other's attention, "Let's tell our secrets, you know? It will help us", and he stands up to follow Zack's example.
"Okay, I got a secret", Billy begins, I like country music"
"What?", Trini chuckles with everyone else.
"No, matter of fact". Billy says, "I love country music", and the others laugh before he then continues, "And I don't... I don't miss my dad as much", a moment of silence as the Rangers listen to him, "I mean, coming to the mine with him was all I had. But coming to the mine with you guys is just as good."
It was silent for another moment before Jason says, "Bigger secret is what were you of all people doing in detention?"
"I blew up my lunchbox", he answers and the others laugh.
"What?!", Trini exclaims as they all laugh.
"Well, it was an accident, okay?", Billy panically explains to them.
"Of course", Trini accepts with a head shake.
"My lunchbox was in my locker", Billy explains some more, "Boom goes the lunchbox, in detention goes billy", as he sits again before pointing to Billy, "Let's not forget that Kimberly Hart was also in detention too, so..."
"Not tonight", Kimberly was too nervous to talk about it, too ashamed, "Skip me".
"What about you dude?", Zack asks Jason, "Why don't you tell us who you really are? I don't think we know shit about ya."
"Because my life before Angel Grove was just terrible and would take the longest to tell", Jason replies before looking to the girls for a moment before looking back to Zack, "Tell you what. Once everyone has gone, I'll share".
"Okay", Zack accepts before looking to Trini, "What about you, crazy girl?"
"I could tell you anything, and you'd have to believe me", Trini remarks, causing the others to shrug or tilt their heads in a 'yeah, and?' manner.
She looks to everyone before beginning, "Okay, um... I'm the new girl. Always. Three schools in three years. What's crazy is that I like it that way, you know, it's just easier. Nobody has to get to know me and my parents don't have to worry about my relationships", and she takes a swig of her drink.
"Boyfriend troubles?", Zack inquires.
"Yeah. Boyfriend troubles', she says with some sarcasm.
His face scrunches up in thought, "Girlfriend troubles?".
"Or both, or other", Jason remarks, causing the others to look at him, "What? You can't be to sure nowadays."
"Point", Zack agrees.
"Anyway...!", Trini continues, "My family is so normal. Too normal. They believe in labels. they'd like for me to dress a certain way. Talk more. Have the kind of friends they want me to have. I just don't know how to tell them what's going on in my life.", she sighs as she sits up, "And I never said any of this out loud".
"Well, it's cool. You're with us now", Billy comforts then holds up a fist for a fistbump.
"Am I?", Trini asks him, causing him to drop the fist, "What does that man? When all of this is over. Are we Power Rangers or are we friends?", she was genuinely wondering if they would ever be that.
The all remain quiet before Kimberly then spoke up, "I'll go now", bringing attention to her.
"I thought you didn't...!", Billy inquires.
"Well, I really want to hear what your story is, that means I need to share", Kimberly reminds them about what he said.
"Um, where do I begin", Kimberly says wiping her face in aggravation before continuing, "I, uh, the reason I was in detention was that I punched Ty Fleming in the face. The reason I punched him in the face is because he told everyone I was the meanest person he'd ever met."
"That can't be true", Jason says in denial. He knew that she was once a Queen Bee but Kimberly hasn't shown him any qualities that made her among the meanest.
"He was right", she then pulls out her phone and shows them a picture, mostly to Trini, causing them to look away from it.
"Whoa", Trini comments blinking with wide eyes.
"You took that picture?", Jason asks her, looking to her again.
"No", Kimberly says while dismissing the picture, "Amanda Clark took the picture. Of herself. But she shared it with me. Privately She trusted me", they knew now that she must have betrayed the trust, especially since she just showed it to them.
"And you sent that pic to Ty?", Billy asks, wondering if that was how she got into trouble with them.
"With a text that said, "Is this the kind of girl you want to bring home to your mom?"", Kimberly confirms.
"Oh", the four others wince in emotional pain.
"I didn't realize how mean it was till I saw her face", Kimberly was near to tears, as they glisten in her eyes.
"Kim, their are literally thousands of photos going around school alone", Jason tries to comfort.
"I don't care about them. I care about this. I did this", Kimberly denies him, "I had to sit in Mr. Detmer's office with Amanda's father and watch as they showed him that photo of his daughter", it was silent as the Ranger's took it in, "In his eyes for the first time, I see who I'd become. You know, so I lied. I--I blamed everyone else. I wanted to die, that's why I was ready to run away...".
"When I asked", Jason completes for her, "Okay, listen me. Start over. Erase that picture right now".
"It can't be erased", Kimberly again denies in tears.
"Then live with it", Trini tells her.
"You did an awful thing, it doesn't make you an awful person", Jason tells her, "Be the kind of person you want to be".
Kimberly looked at the rest before nodding in agreement.
"Alright, everyone shared, big man", Zack says to Jason, "Your turn".
"Right", Jason agrees, the others leaning in to listen.
"Uh, where to begin. I guess I can start from the beginning", Jason begins, "My mom was once a student of the prestigious Gotham Academy. She ended up attracted to a drug dealer that was stationed just across the street, who is my father. She got hooked on both him and drugs and eventually got pregnant with me", He takes a moment to sigh, "Later, found out dad was actually excited to be a dad, quit dealing and got a legal job, even though it was a pathetic car washer that barely paid shit. Mom, however, didn't quit drugs and I was born sick. Dad had to become a henchmen to pay the hospital pills and mom entered depression, diving deeper into drugs. Years went by and dad was eventually arrested, got murdered in prison as he had worked for every super villain in Gotham and nobody wanted him talking. I was old enough to fight and, despite her being a druggie, I was a momma's boy and was focused on protecting my mom from dealers and drugs, while stealing things like tires to make ends meet. Eventually, I cam home one day and mom wasn't there, found her lying in a back-alley, dead from an overdose.", he looks to Zack, "My advice, spend time with your mom, before it's to late".
It was quiet for a moment before Zack spoke up, "Damn man, you weren't kidding about your life being shit before Angel Grove".
"Oh, I'm not finished", Jason says, leaving them wide eyed, "This next part absolutely can't leave the Ranger's secrets", the others agree and he continues, "Alright, mom was dead and I was living on the streets of Gotham City. Couldn't trust the foster system there, trust me. I was still stealing to survive till eventually, I came across the Batmobile just parked in Crime Alley. At first I was scared that he would beat me and throw me in jail, since I was technically a criminal but he wasn't there at the time. This is when I spotted the tires on the Batmobile and thought I could make a pretty penny from just one of those."
"Did you steal a tire off the Batmobile?", Billy excitally asks.
"No way", Zack denies while the girls laugh it off.
"No", Jason denies, "I didn't stop at one tire", this silences them.
"So cool", Billy breathes.
Jason smiles at Billy before continuing, "I had gotten to the last tire on the car when Batman finally showed up, you can imagine his surprise. The Batman getting robbed by a preteen.", he sighs again, "Instead of a beating or just throwing me in jail or something like I expected, he took me out to eat, he picked up some Big Belly Burger and we sat and talked on the outskirts of Gotham. then, he offers me something I didn't expect, I asked me to become Robin".
"What?!", the four others simultaneously loudly demand.
"And I accepted", Jason tells them.
"You are Robin?", Kimberly asks while pointing to him.
"I was", Jason replies.
"You're not making this up?", Billy asks, almost geeking out.
"No, I'm not", Jason answers him.
"Wait,", Zack comes in, "If you were Robin, then who is Robin, now?", he asks him.
"No idea. Robin the 3rd came in after me and I never bothered going back to learn it", Jason replies.
"Why?", Trini aks and he looks to her, "I mean, Why did you stop being Robin?"
"I'll get to that", Jason tells her before continuing, "After some training, I eventually debut as the second Robin, as the first had went on to become Nightwing. I even joined a secret team for teen heroes under the Justice League, no I won't get into that", seeing the look some of them had, "After months of fighting against Gotham's worst side-by-side with Batman, I was then captured by the worst of the worst, The Joker. He took me to some warehouse in the middle of nowhere and beat me with a crowbar, I don't know how long for", The four other Rangers could only look horrified, "Eventually, he leaves me there, broken in every way, alone, with a bomb ticking down. It blew and I died".
This left the others stunned.
"Wait, what, but how are you...?", Billy goes but stumbles with his words.
"We live in a world with aliens, superhumans, a magic users, Billy", Jason tells him, "There are a shit ton of ways to come back to life and none of them are pretty", the others calm down and continue to listen to him, "I came back via the Lazarus Pit. A natural mystical pool that can offer youth or raise the dead. Downside is that after a dip, you experience bouts of insane violence, and you can be lucky if it's not... permanent", crack his neck, "I had escaped from the ones who put my body into the waters. After my death, I didn't want anything to do with Batman, especially after I found out I was replaced after I had died as Robin, so I moved here, to Angel Grove to avoid all that. Only for me to become a Power Ranger", Jason finishes before laughing at his luck. He ran from heroics only to become a hero again.
They remain silent before Trini breaks it, "Yeah, we got nothing on you", and the others start to laugh with Jason soon joining.
"We are normal as hell compared to you", Zack laughs.
"Am I even the among the smartest you know?", Billy laughs as well.
The laughter eventually calms down as Jason says, "Alright, I'm tired, and I'm not sure about you, but I got a really comfortable bed calling for me.
"Yeah, sleeping amongst this junk will be a major problem for me", Billy agrees and they all head for their homes, even Zack.
Later, Trini was asleep in her room in bed where she then feels something drip onto her forehead. This wakes her only to see Rita descend upon her from the ceiling.
She looks almost asian in appearance as she has completely healed from her degradation, about middle age looking with her silky white hair now tied in a bun for now.
Rita floats above the young Ranger before releasing her staff to float back up while she caresses Trini's face, who whimpers in fear.
"Do you know who I am?", Rita asks Trini, who steels herself some before her foe.
"Yes", she shakily replies to Rita.
"I was once just like you", Rita informs as she continues to caress Trini's face, "So pretty. Innocent. Are all the Rangers on Zordon's new team as young as you?".
Trini has enough and throws her weight to push Rita into the ceiling only for the sorceress to fli her with her and causing Trini to be the one to smash into the ceiling of her bed.
"Delightful!", Rita joyfully comments at the attempt before bring them back down to the bed, "Have you morphed yet?", she questions the young Ranger. Trini is then thrown into the ony brick portion of her bedroom wall, with Rita still holding her.
"AAH!", Trini yelps in pain.
"Trick question", Rita tells her before grabbing Trini's hair, "If you could morph, we'd be having a very different conversation", Trini shakes off her hand, "*Sniff* Mmm. The Yellow Ranger.", she then laughs in a mocking way, "Should I kill you? I killed the Yellow Ranger before, last before Zordon. And I loved it!", Trini is frozen in fear, "Oh, you want your suit. I'll show you my favorite outfit, if you show me yours".
Rita Repulsa's eyes glows a red color, similar to her ruby in her golden staff while black began to coat her red dress. Giving her black boats and pants, a spiky like black corset. Her arms also got black pieces. Twisted gold claws formed on her hands as well. Finally was a black and gold tiara or headband as her hair reforms into these two wicked hair horns held by black ribbons. The dark red dress still peeked throw on her arms while the gown still spilled out from her waist.(think of it as a combination of the original and 2017 looks, just recolor 2017 to match the og and add the gown parts.)
Trini takes the opportunity to push her away and into the dresser, having her hands around Rita's throat.
"No, please, your hurting me! Your so strong!", Rita falsely moans in despair before laughing, "Just kidding.", before grabbing trini and spinning her into another wall, "You've got spunk, little Yellow!", she sets Trini down while still holding her, "I see myself in you. I was an outsider to Zordon's team, wasn't even allowed to be a member", she leans in close, "All I need to know is, where is the Zeo Crystal?".
"I don't know", Trini gasps out in defiance.
"Sadly, I believe you", Rita responds in disappointment before stating, "Tomorrow, I am going to destroy Angel Grove. But, in exchange for your life, you will find out where that crystal is, and you will come to me.", she caresses Trini's fae as she tries to shake off Rita's hand, We can have a little deal, Didi, my friend", and she is thrown into her makeshift shelf made from wooden boards and cinder blocks.
Trini groans in pain but begins to get up again as Rita walks towards her.
In Jason's room, he was laying in his bed, asleep, when he hears a ringing from a phone, but it didn't sound like his own.
Opening his eyes, he sees Kimberly standing in his room, looking at him like a deer caught in headlights as her phone chimed in her pocket. She had come to visit him due to her old crush on Robin, along with her curiosity, getting the best of her.
"What are you doing here?", Jason asks her, awake but unfazed by her presence, knowing she wasn't a threat to him.
"I, uh", she tries to speak in her embarrassment as before bring out her phone, "I... should probably check what this is", and looks to her phone to see a text from Trini, "Oh, shit, we got to go, Jason. Now".
Jason had gotten dressed and made his way to the football field with Kimberly to meet with the others after Trini's text.
"So, we all got the same text", Kimberly states as she and Jason walked across the field to meet Zack and Billy at the home-stands, "So where is she?", Kimberly asks as Trini wasn't there, to which the two boys shrug as they didn't know.
"I'm here", Trini calls out as she comes from one of the tunnels in the stands.
"Look, Rita came to my house tonight", she informs them
"What?", Kimberly asks in shock.
"Yeah", Trini confirms, "She's real", she moves her shirt and jacket to show serious bruising and scratches near her neck, "Insane", Kimberly gasps while Trini continues, "She nearly killed me. She was trying to get me to join her. She said she'd spare my life, if I could keep a secret."
"What secret?", Zack asks.
"At dawn, the destruction of Angel Grove begins", she tells them
"This is real, this is the end", Kimberly panics.
"No it's not", Jason denies before asking Trini, "Where is she?"
"She said to meet her where the dead ships live", Trini informs him.
"Okay. That's the boat yard by the docks, right?", Jason offers them, "Let's go".
"What?", one of them asks, while Zack scoffs. The others stay silent and could only look at Jason.
"Are you serious? No one?", Jason demands of them.
"Jason, we're not even Power Rangers yet", Trini vocalizes.
"I say we go back to Zordon", Billy suggests.
"Okay", Jason announces, "The only reason Zordon wanted us to become Power Rangers is so that he can come back to life."
"What makes you say that?", Billy asks in confusion.
"Because he told me", Jason tells him.
"Wait, so all this is a lie?", Billy inquires as he looks to the others for a moment before looking back to Jason.
"Of course it was a lie, Billy", Jason says, "We failed. Let's not be delusional about being a team of superheroes. We're all screw ups. But as much as this town is full of scrubs and bullshit, I won't sit around and watch it die, okay? Let's go and do the one thing that has been asked of us and beat Rita.
It was a moment before Kimberly coughs to hide a fearful laugh, "You know this is a really bad Idea, right?"
"The worst", Jason says with the utmost confidence, "Let's vote. Show of hands".
Trini smirks before raising her hand, Kimberly's immediately follows. It takes a moment before Zack raises his as a fist. Jason raises his own, leaving only Billy. He soon raises his, though a little more hesitantly.
"Alright, let's do it", Jason lowers his hand and goes to leave, with the others soon running after him.
They soon arrive at the boat yard. Many of the Rangers grab things from around the area to use as a weapon, like Zack grabs a chain and Billy grabs a pipe. The four soon enter into a fishnet covered building. They see someone sitting in the distance, covered by lights that were shining on the sitter.
"Okay, let's go", Jason quietly tells the others.
"Take the left, I'll take the right", Zack whispers,
"Okay, got it", the girls reply.
Soon they were yelling out as the rushed the sitter only to see their face, revealing some old man tied up and his mouth gagged.
"Well, untie him", Billy says before going to hand his pipe to Kimberly, "Hold this".
"No, no, no", Kimberly stops him, "Let's just think about this, okay?"
Trini notices that the man was fearfully looking above the six of them, "Oh, shit".
"RAAGH!", Rita screeches as she descends from the top of the room. She lands on the old man, crushing him into the ground as the chair is destroyed, the Rangers are blown back from it and land on the ground around her. "Right on time", Rita congratulates them on their arrival as she stands, "I was beginning to think you were to dumb to know where the dead ships live", trini throws her weapon at Rita, who dodges it and the weapon gets lodged into a crate nearby, "Let's play".
The Rangers surround Rita. Zack then comes from behind with the chain but Rita spins back and wacks him in the face. She continues her spin as Kimberly and Trini duck under it, it misses Jason but scratch Billy as it releases a shockwave knocking them back and she continued to spin and whacked Zack again.
She spins the staff and whacks Jason before jumping over a low kick from Billy. then back swings, hitting Trini in the back as she was getting up. Rita then releases another Shockwave, knocking the Rangers off their feet again and taking the lights out with it.
Rita uses her magics to wrap them up with nets and rope gains an old boat in the water, however Jason was able to avoid it as he flipped and twisted at of the way of the binding trap.
He grabs a fish fillet knife that was knocked over onto the ground and goes to slash at Rita but the beastial man known as Goldar appears and blocks the attack with a steel bar that he's using as a sword.
"Die, Ranger!", and he goes to swing at Jason's head but he ducs the attack. Goldar continues his swing and Jason gets a face full from the black feathered wings that he didn't initially see behind the beastly man.
Jason is dazed but rolls out and gets up before Goldar stabs the ground where he once was. He then slashes at goldar but Goldar is using the bar quite well and blocking every attack. Jason then drops the blade into his other hand and manages to cut Goldar's forearm.
"AARGH!", Goldar yells and backhands Jason to the ground.
Jason quickly gets up to continue his assault on the bestial man before Rita yells, "ENOUGH!", and Jason leg is wrapped by a rope and he is dragged to the boat and tied up completely with the others, dropping the fillet knife in the process.
"Five little Rangers, tied up like fish", Rita taunts, "Though I commend the Red Ranger for lasting longer, The leader still, I assume? Hello", she greets Jason as he struggles to escape, headbutting her. "Ugh", she groans but looks to him as she smiles again, "You're not entirely disappointing. Such a fighter", she looks into his eyes, "Look at you. Trying to figure out my plan. I'll just tell you".
She aims her mystic staff at Trini, "Yellow has led you to your deaths", she begins pacing before them as Goldar stands guard behind her, "Because I'm going to kill you, one by one, till you tell me, where's my crystal?", she almost sounds human when she asks about the crystal.
"We don't know", Jason grunts out.
"No, Red", Rita corrects as she grabs his face, "YOU don't know! But guess what, one of you does", stunning most of the others, "Who could it be?", as she walks down the line, from Trini, to Jason, to Kimberly, "Eenie, meany, miney...", To Zack and ending on Billy, "Blue".
The others looked to between Billy and Jason in fear, hoping Jason could some how stop this.
"Blue, so loyal", Rita states to Billy, "Pure of heart", before yelling at him, "Tell the class, what you know!", and gets in close and quiet with him, "Where's my crystal?".
Billy continues to struggle to get out of the ropes and nets, briefly looking to the other Rangers.
"You can tell me now, Blue", Rita tells Billy, "or you can tell me after I kill all of your friends", gesturing to the other four Rangers, "Let's start with Black", and she shoves her staf into Zack's neck, who yells in pain as he pales and he gains black veins.
"No! Stop!", Jason yells while the others also beg her to stop hurting Zack.
She looks into Billy's eyes, "He dies in three, two...", counting down with her fingers before yells out ot her.
"Okay! Okay!", he yells and she removes her staff from Zack, who gasps for air as he recovers from the attack, "Don't hurt my friends, all right?", Billy begs, "It's near the center of town".
"Where?", she demands of Billy, "What does that mean?".
"I don't know the exact location!", Billy exclaims, "I thought it would be better to just know the general location so if you found out where it was we could head their to defend it. Instead of knowing the exact location, and you extracting the information like now", Billy explains.
Rita takes a deep breath ebfore sighing, "Very wise, Blue. But still, despite the information you did provide, Zordon would lose all respect for me if I don't kill you", as she walked donw the line to Trini, "At least, one of you".
"What?", Kimberly asks before Rita aims her staff at Billy and blasts him and he falls into the water.
"NO!", Jason yells out as Billy sinks deeper into the water, "Billy!", the others crying out for the Blue Ranger as Rita and Goldar leave the Rangers behind.
"Jason, we got to help him!", Trini cries as Jason stuggles even harder to break his bindings.
"You're not ready to kill me", Rita calls out to them, "Ha!", she laughs, "You're not worthy", she releases their bindings and the fall onto the docks int he Boat yard as she and Goldar disappear.
The four Rangers quickly get up and out of the ropes and nets before going to rescue Billy. Billy was still tethered to a rope attached to a wench and they used it to bring Billy up to the surface. They brought Billy onto the docks.
"Billy!", Zack yells as he lays him down with Jason.
"Billy?", Kimberly asks as she checks for a pulse.
"He's going to be okay, right?", Trini asks as tears spilled from her eyes.
Jason begins CPR with chest compressions, "Come on, Billy. Come on!", he calls out. Kimberly did the job of trying to get air into Billy's lungs but he remains unresponsive.
"Hey, you got this, big guy, come on", Zack tells Billy but he remains still.
"He's dead", Kimberly states as she cries in despair at the loss.Jason stops the chest compressions as she repeats, "He's dead".
Zack covers his mouth as he tries not to cry while Trini looks away.
"No", Jason all but begs.
Kimberly sees a note in his pocket and pulls it out, unwrapping it to see it was the one from detention saying they should start a band, causing her to sob harder.
"Pick him up", she tells the others before looking at them, "Help me pick him up!".
She grabs him by one shoulder and his back while Trini grabs the other side. Zack grabs Billy's body by his right leg, next to Kimberly.
Jason could only stand and watched in a state of shock before Zack slaps him, "Come on!", Zack yells at him and Jason grabs the leg opposite to Zack, next to Trini.
The Rangers stand to walk with Billy's body being carried by them, his arms were wrapped around the girls shoulders while his legs were held on the guys shoulders.
Gcing the feeling of a funeral march as they walk back to Alpha 5 and Zordon in the Command Center.

AN: I'm combining what I can from both the original show and the 2017 movie, such as Rita's appearance, so it can blend into the show and comics after I'm done with the this movie.
If you notice with the Black Mastodon Zord, I'm making the Zords twice as tall and stuff than they were in the show, this is due to another thing being crossovered in this fic that will apear later.
Goldar will get his Sword next chapter, along with his armor.
