AN: With the show ending, this is my little fic about post season 7 and the story of Shaun and Lea's second child. Things may change depending on how the story goes in canon.
Yes, I will continue "A Million Little Things", but I want to wait until the new season comes out to see what I miss.
Also, I really hope Dr. Glassman doesn't die, because I already have a happy ending planned for him. If too much changes in canon, I'll probably keep this as a short oneshot with changes.
In this first chapter, it is Steve's second birthday.
Enjoy :)
"Happy birthday, dear Steve! Happy birthday to you!"
Once everyone finished singing, Shaun and Lea, who were crouching down next to their two-year-old toddler in his high chair, encouraged him to blow out his two-shaped candle on his chocolate cake.
"Can you blow it out, Peanut?" Lea encouraged, her and Shaun demonstrating to Steve how to blow.
Steve weakly put the tiny flick of fire out with his tiny feeble blows, followed by cheers from everyone - his parents, Pam, Mike, Donnie, Raul, Dr. Glassman, his girlfriend Jo, her two adult children and their spouses, her three grandchildren, Morgan, Park, Eden, Kellan, one of their foster children, and a couple of kids from daycare and their parents.
It was difficult for Shaun and Lea to grasp the fact that their baby boy was two years old. Lea could not hold back tears during her son's first birthday, which was mutually celebrated with Eden's, even though they were only seven weeks apart.
A lot has also happened during these past two years since Steve was born.
Dr. Lim and Clay finally got married on the roof of the hospital two months before Steve and Eden turned one, and Claire happily returned to San Jose to serve as the maid of honor.
Two months later, Claire and Ravi tied the knot with a wedding in San Jose around the time Eden turned one. In return, Dr. Lim also served as Claire's maid of honor. Claire and Ravi were still working in Guatemala, and now, they recently announced they were having a baby.
Morgan and Park also got married right after Eden's official adoption finalization. It was a simple courthouse wedding with Kellan as their witness and best man. Even since their first month of marriage, Morgan and Alex had been foster parents together to children of all ages and needs. Currently, they were fostering a 12-year-old girl named Mackenzie.
Jerome and Asher had been married for six months and were already contemplating having a child.
Jordan and Jared had been dating for a while and were now engaged (with Shaun and Lea assigned as the best man and maid of honor), as were Andrews and Nurse Villanueva, although Marcus (what he now preferred to be called by his ex-subordinates) was now a San Jose city councilman since his resignation, in which he decided to transfer his career to local politics.
Dr. Glassman was finally dating again and was in a serious relationship with Dr. Johanna "Jo" Grilic, a widowed and retired marriage and family therapist. They have been together for two years and were contemplating moving in together...and thankfully, they both seemed to be happy and not constantly at each other's throats.
Jo was a widow for four years before she and Aaron met. She had two adult children, Jason and Samantha. Jason was an elementary music teacher married to an architect named Margo with two sons, seven-year-old Henry and four-year-old Oliver. Samantha was an addiction counselor married to an environmental lawyer named Natalia with a two-year-old daughter named Eva.
Aaron and Jo met at the park, both of them happened to be spending time with their grandchildren when they crossed paths.
Meanwhile, back in Hershey, Shaun and Lea were going to be an aunt and uncle to a nephew pretty soon since Donnie and Raul were having a child via surrogacy.
"He's getting big," observed Shaun, whispering to Lea and holding her close as they watched Kellan and Mackenzie interact and play with Steve, Eden, Eva, and some friends from daycare - Max, Charlotte, and Finn.
"Yes, he is," sniffed Lea, feeling like time was going too fast. The day Steve was born still felt like yesterday, and it was definitely going to go fast to the time he turns three, and then later four, then five, and so on.
The teeny blue-eyed baby was now a toddler in little khakis and button-downs, who almost looked like a mini Shaun. One day, Mrs. Lindsey, Steve and Eden's teacher (yes, Steve and Eden attended the same daycare), commented that Steve and Shaun walked in looking like twins with their matching button-downs, khakis, jackets, and backpacks.
It was one of those rare days when Shaun and Steve literally wore the same matching clothes.
"Maybe we should think about getting a bigger place," suggested Lea as she and Shaun watched Kellan and Mackenzie allow themselves to be piled on by a bunch of toddlers.
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," agreed Shaun, thinking that a bigger backyard would be good for Steve, especially since Lea did want a dog someday, although Shaun still preferred cats.
"Yeah, it would be nice if he had more space to run around outside that was bigger than our porch," fantasized Lea, wishing she could provide Steve with more than just a kiddie pool, which was all they had on their porch. "We could have a garden and a swing set, and also more space for Steve...and anyone else who might come along."
"Mm," hummed Shaun, assuming that Lea was talking about a dog until Lea gave him a look to cue him into realizing she was talking about a human.
