Time seems to pass quite differently when your alone, Echo Zane had begun to notice. The seconds of solitude seemingly stretching on for hours longer than they should, the silence between each tick of his clockwork heart becoming all consuming in his mind.
It had been what felt like an eternity(though, something in him whispered that it had not been that long, only a handful of years) since his father creator Doctor Julien had abandoned Echo. Locking the rusting nindroid in the lighthouse's basement, leaving him in favor of his other, more superior and well-functioning son creation.
After what couldn't have been more than a few days alone in the hidden basement, Echo had powered down for an amount of time he still wasn't sure of(though it must have been a while, considering how much more rust and grime had accumulated on him)
Eventually, he was woken by the only other robot on the lighthouse island, whom he considered his only friend, a cleaning robot(Also built by Doctor Julien) named Tai-d.
Thing's weren't so bad, for a while. Echo and Tai-d had both been left to rot by horrible monstrous awful person Dr. Julien, but they had each other to keep as company. And that was enough for Echo.
Sure, there wasn't much to do in the lighthouse; and yeah, Echo was more covered in rust than not, having to put pieces of himself back in him very frequently; but he wasn't completely alone. He had Tai-d.
That was, until one day when Echo was playing hide and seek with the smaller robot, and was unable to find Tai-d. He searched the whole lighthouse up and down, displacing everything, but even after searching for days, he was unable to find Tai-d. And he was fully alone.
Now, what was at least a year later, Echo lay in the middle of the top floor of the lighthouse. One of the joints in his leg that allowed him to move had rusted up so much that it refused to bend, no matter how hard he tried to force it to.
Echo was left alone with his thoughts, nothing to do but listen to his inner mechanism work to keep him conscious.
So, he thought about his name. Echo. He wasn't sure quite when, but at some point he had started referring to himself as it. He wasn't sure why, either. But it felt righter than calling himself the same thing his father creator had called him; the same name of the original nindroid he was nothing more than a cheap copy of.
Calling himself Echo felt less like a lie, less like a reminder that he was not and would never be good enough, felt more like he was an individual separate from what Dr. Julien had tried to make him to replicate. And that's why he liked it.
Unfortunately for Echo, though, he could tell that soon his clock would stop—both literally and figuratively—and he would cease to function.
All he could feel was a bitterness towards his creator. The old man didn't even have the decency to tell him goodbye, much less bother to breathe a word of Echo's existence towards someone who might come back for him. Leaving him endlessly alone.
A/N: so i've seen a couple of fics with Echo Zane being the secret identity of Mr. E floating around on . To be honest, I wasn't all that satisfied with them. And hardly any of them are finished. So, here's my take on Echo Zane as Mr. E.
I intend to finish this, it probably won't be all that long. Chances of it getting finished are... minimal. But that won't stop me from trying.
Alright, I'm off to work on chapter two! bye bye now.
