A month together in Paris was an amazing end to the current chapter in Jane and Maura's lives. Maura showed Jane all the sites, cuisine, and nuances of the romance capital of the world. Spending the amount of time together in vacation mode was surprisingly relaxing and easy for the pair. Despite the traditional ways they were different, the company they were in - left them content and entertained.

Today was the last day they had together, and although it was bitter sweet, they treasured all the quality time that they had. Lying in a king sized bed in their pajamas, the two women were exhausted from the final jaunt to the city of lights at night. They had traveled one last time to their favorite spots and stopped by a few shops for some souvenirs. Their bodies sore from all the walking, they had plopped onto the bed together. Sharing a bed wasn't that complicated and Jane felt bad about using her best friend's rewards up for the first class flight.

As penance, she insisted Maura keep the hotel accommodations to a minimum. One bed was the economical option, and it was not like they hadn't done it before. The hotel staff had made it awkward when they placed some champagne and strawberries on their first day of arrival. The best friends had giggled at the sight on their bed, that there was a misconception of them being a couple and went with it, since it seemed to bring with it some free perks.

"It's crazy to think I won't see you almost every day anymore," Jane said gruffly as she stared up at the ceiling with arms crossed.

"I know, I'm sure I can call you daily and spin you up on the latest journals I read, and the progress of my novel," the blond mused turning to her side to face the brunette who seemed dark and broody that their fun was coming to an end.

"It's not the same, who will google mouth me to death when some mundane factoid crosses her mind?" uncrossing her arms, the taller woman shifted to her side as well so that they looked at each other fondly.

"I'm not sure Jane, I'm pretty sure I'm a singular sample of our species." the hazel eyed woman responded with a twinkle in her eye.

"It's one of a kind Maur," Jane replied as Maura's brows furrowed in confusion. "Nevermind". The brunette rolled her eyes light heartedly and lifted her arm to reach for Maura across the bed.

"While I've loved the witty banter and soul searching talks we've had nightly since we've been here, I have got to go to sleep so I can get to my flight in the morning. Don't worry about going with me to the airport, I'm not one for goodbyes, plus It's not goodbye. I promise to come visit you all the time that you'd get your fill of me on my visits and want me to leave by the time is up." Jane had rushed the last part out before Maura could protest but she could see the other woman's eyes slightly water in response.

"Yes I understand Jane, my lacrimal glands wouldn't be able to handle it anyway. This month has been amazing, I couldn't have asked for a better trip for us before we go our separate ways."

Maura's heart was heavy at the thought of not seeing the Detective daily but she also was somewhat happy that they both could live away from danger for a while.

A yawn overtook the brunette as she patted her friend and returned to lying on her back, glad to be tired enough from the day to close her eyes.

Maura in turn, lay back down so they both lay in silence as the hum of the air conditioning in the room merged with their racing thoughts of all that was to come. All good things had to come to an end but it didn't make it any less painful to know that it was coming. Knots twisted both the woman's stomachs

"Jane, since you won't let me see you off, I just want to say I'll really miss you and you have been one of the best things in my life since we met." her voice broke at the last two words.

"Ditto Maur, but I really should get some sleep, stop acting like this is goodbye when it isn't. It's bye for now." Jane harumphed matter of factly. Feelings weren't her Forte, she too was deeply affected but she put on her no nonsense tone on to keep brave for Maura.

Part of her knew getting on the plane tomorrow would be one of the scariest and hardest things she would have to do in her life. Life with her best friend always near had been the best years of her life despite the awful things that happened along the way. Tomorrow she would be in another state, away from family, and no Maura to turn to whenever she wanted. Nonetheless all that she had been through over the years had gotten her to this point, the point that she felt she needed a change.
