Some key points:
1) Idk whenever I'm going to do another chapter later on as I'm graduating college this semester and this goes with my other stories as well in case all of you been wondering why I haven't been updating as much.
2) This story has been fun to write about with the characters haha, I hope all of you been having fun with it.
Anyway back to the story.
Justice and Warlords
It was quite simple day for the United States navy. Today, they were being visited by none other than Lex Luthor and Amanda Waller. It was like any other day; they inspect and give details of new weapons development that Lex or Cadmus are working on.
A lot of the navy men didn't care about this, but it was nice to hear from them once in a while. A strong intake from the man whose always wanted the best of humanity and the planet Earth.
Lex Luthor always had dramatic entrances and today was no different as he landed by helicopter on a regular navy ship.
"Gentlemen," he greeted several navy men, awaiting in front of him was the commander and Waller, herself. She hasn't changed as much as Lex thought.
"You were supposed to be here one hour ago. This is the first time you've ever been late to these meetings," Waller scolded him for the tardiness.
"I apologize for such inconvenience, I was busy with the dealings of LexCorp and Superman, but I digress as he never showed up." Lex said as Waller sighed and proceeded to their daily meeting with the commander.
However, a navy man came by the deck and shouted "Sir, take a look at this!" That confused all of them. They all headed to the control room, murmurs among the regular navy men were scattering around in a frenzy.
"What is it?" The commander asked.
"An enemy appears to taken out one of our ships. We received footage of the battle." The man said as the commander ordered to play it.
The footage showed a man with a large black sword swinging it around like it was child's toy yet very elegant and grace to it. Dozens of men screaming for help as they ordered for back up.
"What the hell is this?!" Waller screamed out of pure anger.
"Must be a new enemy," Lex began. "I'll notify the Justice League on this if I can get contact with their Watchtower and-"
"There isn't enough time as the man has reached a bay at Metropolis." The navy man said as everyone's eyes widened.
"What?!" They all screamed aloud.
From this perspective, Mihawk was wondering where the heck was he now? He was supposed to be meeting with Crocodile, but somehow found himself in a new sea and new land. Well, whatever, he'll find his way back and he even wondered when did the Marines get new ships... must've been Vegapunk's new technology he's been working. The old fool making dangerous out here on the seas.
As he docked his ship, people were staring at him. He glared at them and asked, "Something the matter?"
"Oh nothing, except it isn't Halloween, pal!" One guy with sunglasses and blue shorts said as he and his friends laughed. he was a Caucasian male with sandy, blonde hair and his friends was a Black male and another an Asian woman. There were also others Mihawk didn't care to perceive.
Mihawk took the comment as a sign of weakness and let it go. If he was asleep before and heard that, he would've done something, but now he will let it go. Instead, he'll do a new tactic.
"Besides, your snarky comment towards my appearance, you could tell where I am?" Mihawk demanded from the man that insulted him as the guy wasn't going to admit, he was very afraid from him.
"You're in Metropolis," an Asian woman answered his question. Mihawk nodded and thanked her as he went on his way.
At the Watchtower, Booster Gold was on monitor duty. Boy, was it boring. Nothing, but just screens, screens, and even more screens. Plus, there was that energy detection a few minutes ago- wait, what was the energy detection? Where did it occur? Why did it occur? So, many questions asked at the same time in his mind.
"What the hell is going on?" Booster asked as another League member came by.
"Something wrong, Booster?" The hero known as Elongated Man asked as he noticed something was wrong.
"Large energy detected from the Atlantic Sea, usually where the navy sail around, but what's weird is that it came close to Metropolis itself, might be even on it." The hero from the future explained as Elongated Man stared at him in bewilderment.
"What?"
"How long ago was this detected?" Ralph asked as he crossed his arms and scolds Booster as if he's a child.
"Hey, don't give me that look, J'onn gave me monitor duty. And second, it was detected a few seconds ago." Booster remarked as Elongated Man shook his head.
"Let's send in a few members to check it out and hopefully nothing bad happens," Ralph said as he walked away.
"Can I come along?" Booster asked as he heard Ralph shout back to him a 'no'. He sat back down and was saddened by the choice.
Mihawk definitely thought he was in a strange new world. He kept walking, people kept staring at him, and weirdly enough a lot of women kept saying he was hot and sexy. He ignored the comments as it was nothing to him.
"This is an unpleasant island. Too much noise and weakness," Mihawk commented.
Mihawk kept walking around and noticed strange vehicles moving on paths at high or low speeds.
"Hey, buddy. You missed a convention or somethin'?" A fat, white guy asked the warlord. He ignored his question as he followed everyone else crossing the street.
More and more people made comments as Mihawk passed by them. "Mommy, that sword looks cool!" A little boy said as his mother gasped and glared at Mihawk. He didn't care, he wanted to know where he was and why.
"Excuse me, sir?" Mihawk, using his peripheral vision, noticed a man wearing a blue uniform raising his index, lowered it, and then said, "Are you lost going to the costume party?"
Mihawk ignored the man, but the man, who was really a police officer, ordered, "Sir, I was asking you questions. You are carrying a dangerous item around scaring the public."
The former Warlord was not going to have it, he turned to the officer and glared at him. "You listen here, you wretched fool. I'm trying to find my way off this island and unless you know where I am going, then please direct me. Otherwise, leave me and my weapon alone." He turned and left the officer alone, who was intimidated by his words, but that didn't stop him from getting his gun, and holding it shakily.
Mihawk stopped walking. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," he said as he prepared with his observation haki for the upcoming bullet.
"Get on the ground!" The officer shouted nervously, shaking the gun in his hand.
"You don't want to do this," Mihawk grabs Yoru, but does not unsheath the blade as he waits for the right moment.
"I said—!" The officer shot the gun and in swift action,the crowd went into a frenzy, but Mihawk cut the bullet in half. The spectators were shocked. The cut-bullets fell to the ground as there weren't a lot of people filming this incident.
The officer was also shocked, "How the hell… How did you do that?"
The crowd stopped and kept murmuring among themselves.
Mihawk shook his head and said, "I told you before not to do that. But I sense you are not strong, and yet, this world is rather…" He turned around to look at all corners and then back at the officer.
He approached him and grabbed him by the collar. The officer yelped in surprise.
"Are you affiliated with the World Government?" The warlord asked as the officer looked at him as if he was crazy.
"World Government?" He blinked as Mihawk glared even harder. "You're not one of those conspiracy theorists, are you?"
The pirate warlord sighed and let him go.
"I'll have you know, mister. If you're one of those rogue metahumans, I'll have no choice, but to contact someone else–"
"I wish to speak with you no longer. It is clear your country is not affiliated with the World Government. Not the first time, I've seen that, but do tell, am I still in the Grand Line?" Mihawk asked, but got a lot of stares (mainly bewildered stares) from the people around him.
"Grand Line? Now I'm sure you're a conspiracy theorist!" The officer shouted and continued, "And another assaulting a police officer is against the law– Hey, hey, where are you going? I'm placing you under… arrest."
The swordsman didn't want to hear more babble from the authority man, but unbeknownst to Mihawk, he was not in his world any more.
'This world's energy is strong and formidable, yet no enemy has appeared yet. That man didn't know about the World Government, nor the Grand Line. Plus, there are these mysterious objects with wheels going fast on different pathways. It is quite clear, I'm not in my world. Or maybe I am, then how did I get here?' Mihawk thought to himself.
Amanda Waller got news media appearing on all screens. Lex was not amused at all.
"This new fellow in Metropolis could be quite dangerous," Lex remarked.
"Oh, you think?" Amanda said sarcastically and gave him the side-eye.
"Nevertheless, I think it's best we let the Justice League handle this." Lex said as he watched footage of Mihawk slicing the bullet from the officer that tried to shoot him.
Booster spat his drink as he watched the news media.
"Aw, crap…" He said as he kept pressing buttons to alert any members left in the Watchtower.
Several members came by: Katana, Guy Gardner, Black Lightning, Fire and Ice, and lastly Shining Knight.
"Did we… uh… miss something?" Ice asked, looking at the footage on the screen.
"What'd you do now, Booster?" Guy crossed his arms, scolding the hero.
"I didn't do anything, the footage just came now, if we hurry, we might be able to stop him." Booster explained, but Guy stopped him and asked him about what exactly happened.
Booster sighed, "Sword guy attacked a navy ship and now he's in Metropolis and was about to get shot by an officer, only to what appears he split the bullet in half really fast."
"Sounds like a challenge," Katana remarked as they all headed to the teleporters, Guy set the coordinates, and they went on their way.
Several police cars started to show up to Mihawk, he was getting annoyed at the siren sounds, and it reminded him too much of his days back then… when he was a marine hunter, though he never called himself that.
"It's been awhile since I've gotten the thrill of being chased again, only this time, not by marines…" Mihawk commented.
"That's enough, pal!" Guy Gardner shouted at the swordsman.
"Yeah, time to stop messing with the police and come with us, quietly!" |Booster demanded.
"We're not taking him in, Booster…" Guy reminded the hero.
"Oh, right, then what are we doing?" Booster asked.
"Strange outfits and yet you appear to be some sort of force… I do not understand your purpose? What are you, pirates? Marines?" Mihawk asked while the heroes looked at him perplexed.
"Strange outfits?" Black Lightning repeated and whispered to Katana.
"Pirates?" Shining Knight also repeated.
"Look, pal, we don't want any trouble. We want to know who you are and where you came from. And no, we're not pirates or marines. Guy's lost his marbles or something…" The Green Lantern said and muttered the last part to himself.
"You haven't heard of the name, Mihawk. I was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, but that system was just abolished and now the world is wondering about the Three Great Powers and their balance. Have you also heard of the Grand Line and the World Government?"
"What is he on about— nevermind that… Listen, it appears you might be lost or from another world, let us help you figure that out before things get too crazy, ok. And you don't need to attack the cops or any marines." Black Lightning suggested.
"Why should I trust you?" Mihawk asked as he wanted to hear their answer.
Guy facepalmed and said, "You can trust us cause we're heroes, maybe, you haven't heard of us, the Justice League. Nice to meet ya, now, come with us or else…"
"Guy, you said not to escalate the situation," Fire said to him.
"I know what I'm doing," Guy said back to her.
"Or else what? You'll fight me." Mihawk remarked as he prepared his weapon.
"Yeah," Gardner looked around, "From the looks of things, you're getting your ass whooped by me and the others."
"And we'll definitely beat you." Booster pointed, made a fist, and slammed into his hand ready for action.
"Booster, don't escalate it like Guy is doing." Ice scolded the two men.
"I concur, sir." His robot, Skeets agreed, even though he hasn't spoken in a while.
"You two calm down and let's settle it back to square one," Black Lightning suggested.
"I think you better agree with your friends there," Mihawk said callously.
"Where's Elongated Man when you need him?" Katana suggested.
"Screw him, I'm going for it, if he isn't backing down!" Guy was getting annoyed already.
"So, what will it be?" Booster asked as Skeets was pleading not to fight the warlord.
"Since you are eager for a battle, let's do it." Mihawk uses his observation haki as Guy hovers to lunge at Mihawk with a green fist from his lantern ring.
Mihawk dodges as Booster fires energy blasts from his hands, Mihawk dodges it as well.
Fire and Ice attack with their fire and ice powers. Mihawk manages to dodge them and uses his haki well enough to not overdo or deplete it.
Guy imagines a sword and constructs it from his ring. "Let's dance, bozo!" He swings it as Mihawk blocks the attack.
"Your swordsmanship is weak," Mihawk commented.
Katana and Shining Knight nod at each other and then go for an attack. Mihawk swings Yoru back to block both Katana's and Shining Knight's strikes. He starts to get faster with the two of them.
'He's very fast,' both heroes thought the same about his swordplay.
"You two are weak as well," Mihawk commented. He strikes even harder and fiercer with Yoru.
Katana tries to aim for a vital point as does Shining Knight, but Mihawk blocks both of them, and they are surprised.
Black Lightning charges up and aims at Mihawk, but the swordsman dodges, however, one of the lightning bolts hits him.
"Ugh," Mihawk grunts and is surprised someone managed to land a hit on him.
"There's a little more where that came from," Black Lightning said as he charged and fired more lightning at Mihawk.
Fire and Ice used this time to attack as well, along with Guy and Booster. With one swing, Mihawk launches an air slash attack blocking the attacks.
In the beam struggle, Guy and Booster were having the upper hand, along with the others.
"What the hell is this strength?!" Fire exclaimed as they all tried pushing the slash attack.
"Keep pushing!" Guy ordered.
"AAAAaaaaaaaaah!" Black Lightning felt enraged and charged up more of his power against the attack.
The air slash eventually launched itself up to the sky and blew causing a massive sound like an explosion, but nothing was breaking or destroyed, just disappeared.
Ice makes an ice sword and decides to clash with Mihawk. 'Ice powers like the admiral? Did she take his Devil Fruit?' Mihawk thought.
However, despite a good effort, he breaks her weapon, and goes for a slash attack, but she blocks it with giant ice crystals forming from the ground.
Gardner makes a green fist and hovers quickly towards Mihawk. A flashback occurs in Mihawks' mind when Straw Hat uses his Gum-Gum power to make a giant fist during Marineford.
Black Lightning fires lightning at him, Mihawk, yet, again with one swing, slashes the lightning away, however, Gardner doesn't give in to the slash attack as it clashes with his green fist.
"HAVE… A TASTE OF YOUR OWN…" Guy changes the fist into a hand grabbing the slash and redirects back at Mihawk, "MEDICINE!"
Mihawk quickly counters it with his blade touching the air slash. He stares intensely at it and launches it back into the sky. Yet, again, it made the same sound and disappeared.
Fire flew around and launched her attack, but Mihawk dodged her. Shining Knight and Katana went in for the parry. Mihawk smirked at the challenge and clashed.
"I'll admit this, you are a formidable team. I would've thought you people were just rabbits trying to attack the wolf, but I was wrong. This is quite a challenge." Mihawk commented.
Katana and Shining Knight ignored his words and continued to attack Mihawk. Shining Knight continued his swings one after another, while Katana attempted to strike any vital point on Mihawk.
He wasn't having it and swung Yoru heavily with a heavy air slash on the ground. Katana and Shining Knight dodged it, but were launched away left (Katana) and right (Shining Knight) from the slash.
"What the hell kind of power does this guy have?!" Booster exclaimed as Skeets commented, "You better stop that, sir!" Booster shook his head and flew as fast as he could.
Ice formed another icy sword and clashed with Mihawk for a bit.
Meanwhile, with Booster, the slash was headed for a building. "Aw, crapcrapcrapcrapcrap..." He flew a little faster and got in front of the slash and fired energy into it to slow it down or redirect it somewhere safely.
"I won't let another tragedy occur under my watch!" Booster puts in more energy than ever before and the slash attack is dissipated. He pants until he catches his breath.
From a distance, Guy sees Booster did good work. "Proud of you, Gold." Though, he was also glad no one else heard him say that.
"Hey, Lantern! Focus!" Black Lightning shouted as he was fighting Mihawk along with Ice and Katana.
Mihawk, using his haki, slashes the ice and lightning attacks away. He only does it lightly, however, as he doesn't want to make a bigger air slash like the yellow gold guy flew by to stop it.
Booster flies back and continues firing energy at Mihawk. Mihawk blocks it with his sword. Unbeknownst to the warlord, Guy makes green chains, wrapping it around, and not letting him get away.
He is not surprised, but wonders what will happen next. "Listen, asshole, you did that weird sword attack to that building. What are you trying to do… KILL PEOPLE?!" Guy yelled at him, glaring down his 'hawk-eyed' stare.
"Not my intention," Mihawk said. "It's not my fault they are very weak, if they are caught in the attack."
"No, no, no! Do not justify that in front of me! If you have a problem, take it out on us, not them! Got it!" The Green Lantern shouted.
"Your anger is justified Gardner, however, let me have a crack at him," Shining Knight began.
"Who are you and why are you here?" The knight asked as Mihawk replied. "It's rude not to introduce oneself without saying your name first."
The knight sighed and thought the request was weird. "Fine, I am Shining Knight and this Katana, Fire, Ice, Green Lantern, Black Lightning, and Booster Gold. We are members of the Justice League, not sure if you'd ever heard of us. But you were swinging that dangerous sword around like it was a toy at the cops and us. Now what we want to know is why?"
"My name is Mihawk and I think this world is unfamiliar to me, like those things with wheels going around. I've never seen them before. I've deduced that possibly I may not be from around here… possibly this entire world… it's energy is different…" Mihawk began.
The heroes had mixed feelings, some felt Mihawk was pulling their leg, others felt Mihawk was being sincere.
"And no, I've never heard of your Justice League? That alone makes it seem like I don't belong here," Mihawk said as others looked at him, again having mixed feelings.
"You asked about this 'World Government' and another I don't remember, 'Grand thing' or whatever it's called. And what's with calling us pirates?" Gardner asked as Mihawk stared blankly into the sky.
"The World Government is… or was the organization I worked for as a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Let's say it was where they hired pirates to enforce against, well, other pirates. Pirates who roamed the seas considered us to be government-lap dogs, but it was a balance of power for the once Three Great Powers. One of them being the warlord system I once was a part of. The other two being the World Government and the Four Emperors that reign the second half of the Grand Line known as the New World." Mihawk explained.
They didn't know how to take this information as one, it was a very weird, but interesting system that his world developed. Two, considering the fight, what was going to be done with Mihawk now?
"So, you've worked with this government, but it seems like you were just doing what you wanted, not on their orders?" Fire surmised the situation.
"Well, because of the abolishment of the warlord system that I've been on the run from them," Mihawk added.
"I see," Fire said.
"Why'd they abolish it?" Katana asked.
Mihawk sighed, remembering all the times the warlords abused their power and lots of cover-ups occurred.
"They abused the system and caused many problems for the government. Hence, the abolishment of it," Mihawk replied with a stern glare.
"OK, seems like these warlords were such a problem, why have them in the first place?" Booster asked, but was intercepted by Black Lightning.
"Hold on, let's have him answer all of these questions in the Watchtower one at a time and second, let's deal with the police," The hero gestured behind him as cops surrounded them and were awaiting an answer.
"I'll deal with them," Gardner suggested and as the others proceed to help with any damages and check for any casualties.
After one hour of assessing the situation with the police, a helicopter lands near the heroes.
"Hold it, hold it!" Lex Luthor appears out of the copter and runs towards the heroes. The press is all over him, but he does not answer any questions.
"Oh, great…" Ice facepalmed.
"Anyone, but him…" Katana commented.
Mihawk determined from those reactions that this bald man was not to be trusted. He took note of it and watched as the man approached them, but was stopped by Gardner.
"Back off, Luthor. This is League business." Gardner stated.
"I think you misunderstand; this man has attacked Navy battleships with a single strike from his huge, black sword. And the government would want to hear about this," Luthor stated.
"We're well aware of that and taking care of it," Gardner retorted.
"I see," Luthor began. "Then you say the League will take full responsibility for this man's actions against the battleships that cost over a billion dollars of taxpayer money."
Gardner's fists clenched, he glanced at Mihawk, and looked back to Luthor's face. In the Lantern's opinion, Luthor had a smug look on his face.
"Yes, we'll do press and everything… Now butt off, Luthor." Gardner said and left him.
Luthor smiled as he now has something enormous planned or rather can predict something bad is going to happen soon.
