Chapter 1: Guy in A Bar

Glancing one last time, Meredith checked her reflection in the mirror hanging from her bedroom wall. The short black dress hugged her curves just right as she smoothed her hands over her ass. Wondering if she should even bother with the wispy black thong that gave just the faintest hint of its existence as it played peek a boo through the fabric of her dress. Just as she was about to give in to her courage the sounding of a horn blared over the music playing through her bedroom.

Looking out the window she spotted Cristina and waved as she hollered down "I'll be right there." Grabbing her clutch, she headed for the stairs. Her nerves almost getting the best of her, she paused wondering if this "girls night out" was such a good idea. Sighing, she whispered to herself as she locked the door behind her, "you need this, Meredith. Just go with it."

Hopping in Cristina's silver Beemer she laughed as the music overtook her. Allowing her to feel giddy as they raced through the Seattle Streets the wind blowing through her hair as she let all her troubles seep out the open windows.

"So, where we going?" she finally asked as the song ended.

Cristina pointed a red manicured finger at her and smiled "it's a surprise, but you'll love it."

Laughing, Meredith just smiled as she sang along to the newest song playing on the radio. The soft humming of her cell phone caught her attention as she glanced down only to sigh. The caller id flashed a familiar number and for the briefest of seconds her heart sank as she listened to the phone ring as he tried to reach her.

The he in question was her longtime boyfriend "the one" or so she had thought for the last two years until she caught him in bed with a younger co-ed he had been tutoring. "Some tutoring" she murmured as the ringing finally stopped.

"What?" Cristina asked as she glanced towards the phone Meredith clutched between her hands "was that him?"

Meredith only nodded, words failing her as she battled the emotions threatening to ruin her night out.

"Mer, come on don't let him get to you. He's not worth it. He's McAss remember."

"Your right, it's not like it's completely devastating. I mean I don't even think he was in love with me, just in love with the idea of me. I just wish," pausing, Meredith mentally finished her sentence, wishing that just one person would stay by her and not walk away "forget it. Let's have some fun."

Cristina smiled as she cranked up the volume on the radio and the two girls laughed as they screamed through the city streets enjoying the summer breeze and wiping the thoughts of Finn out of Meredith's mind for the night.

Pulling up to a club lined with velvet ropes and an anxious mob, Meredith glanced at Cristina "this is what you had in mind?"

Raising her eyebrows in questioning, Cristina chuckled, "you doubt me?"

"I never doubt you, however I do doubt we will ever see the actual inside of this place. "

"Don't worry about it. It's taken care of. Now let's go," Cristina laughed as she stepped out into the parking lot.

Meredith grimaced as she prepared to join the mob of people surrounding the doors of the Bohemian. As they approached the doors, Cristina bypassed the line and stepped up to the guard, whispering something to the big brute of a man. Meredith prepared to hear laughter, but instead she was given her first shock of the night as they were waved in, much to the displeasure of the many still waiting in line.

"How did you do that? What did you say?" Meredith questioned Cristina as the sound of the music pounded through her ears.

Glancing around, she caught site of the couples grinding on the dance floor as a Justin Timberlake song accompanied the erotic dance moves. As they walked into the dimly lit club, she laughed at the different aquariums that lined the walls.

"Different." she shrugged walking past a petite blonde with a high-pitched laugh.

She watched as the blonde hung all over the man who was handing her a shot- her giggle obviously aggravating him, but the possibility of getting laid making it bearable.

The blonde laughed as she furrowed her brow watching the fish swim in the glass tanks "I think animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers."

Meredith choked back her laughter as the man holding the blondes eyes actually blushed in embarrassment for her.

"I hope she's at least good in bed." Meredith whispered as she quickly caught up to Cristina.

Grasping hold of Cristina as she made her way through the massive crowd, Meredith didn't even seem to blink as she caught site of the many single men checking her out. Subconsciously she tried to remind herself this was what she was here for, however instead she found herself glaring at many of them. In all of her twenty-four years she had never felt so unsure of herself.

"Cristina, I don't know if I can do this."

Cristina just nodded in response. Meredith knew she didn't hear her, but it didn't matter because she probably wouldn't listen even if she could. Dodging through the crowds, they finally made their way to the bar where they were greeted by a intimidating bald guy who was taking drink orders from behind the bar.

"What can I get you ladies?" he screamed over the noise.

"A double shot of tequila and vodka on ice please" Cristina asked as she silently questioned Meredith who could only nod.

"Lemon or salt?" the bartender asked.

"No, don't bother." Cristina laughed.

He walked away and Meredith watched as he grabbed the shot glass and a bottle of Patron. She could already feel the warmth that the liquor would bring her body. Watching as he sat the drinks on the black marble bar top, she took a deep breath as she reached for the seemingly full glass. Bringing the drink to her lips, she inhaled the pungent scent before allowing the glass to touch her lips and the liquid to pool down her throat. Her head tipped back and her eyes closed, she allowed the heat to race through her veins.

"I don't know how you do that without getting sick." Cristina grimaced as she sipped her own drink.

Meredith just laughed as she scooted her glass forward and motioned for another. The burly man walked up chuckling as he took in her size, "you'll be sorry in the morning."

Shaking her head, Meredith shrugged her shoulders "I'm always sorry in the morning."

Feeling Cristina's hand on her shoulder she turned in her seat to face her. Only to come face to face with a man in his late thirties. He was tall, handsome with a smugness to him as he stood with an arm draped across Cristina's bare shoulders. There was something dirty in his eyes and instantly Meredith knew this must be Cristina's new boy toy.

"You must be Mark." extending her hand she smiled at him.

"You must be Meredith."

There was something vaguely erotic in the way he said her name and Meredith knew this must be what kept Cristina going back for more. Watching as Mark leaned in and assaulted Cristina's mouth in what could only be classified as complete and utter sexual desire. Meredith's eyes widened in shock as an uncomfortable voyeuristic side of her blushed and finally turned away.

Smiling, she reached for her drink. The smooth glass had just grazed upon her lips when her eyes caught a glimpse of a dark stranger coming to stand next to Mark.

He smiled, gently nodding toward the engrossed couple who were yet to come up for air.

"Pretty hard to watch and yet somehow even harder to turn away."

Her breath hitched in her throat as she gazed into the piercing blue eyes that quickly roamed over her body. Catching her breath, she tried to calm the sensations running through her nerve endings. Blinking in confusion, trying to make sense of the effect this stranger was having on her, she tilted the glass back once again and took the double shot in one gulp. Closing her eyes briefly she composed herself as she turned once again for introduction.

Coming up for air Mark introduced the mystifying stranger, "Meredith, I'd like you to meet my best friend, Derek Shepherd."

Derek held out his hand for her. Allowing his hand to encompass hers she felt his warmth seep through her body. Her skin prickled with goose bumps from his touch as her dress suddenly felt too thick. Her nipples strained against the soft material. His eyes twinkled as he smiled. Almost as if he could read the reaction her body was having to his nearness.

A soft blush crept into her cheeks as she glanced away, unable to heed to his gaze any longer. Taking a second to gain her courage she looked up once again into the eyes that seemed to be laughing at her, "nice to meet you Derek, I'm Meredith."

"Meredith…" his voice was velvety smooth as her named rolled out over his tongue.

Smiling, he nodded as he motioned for the bartender, "I'll have a single malt double scotch please?" questioning her with his eyes she held up her empty glass and nodded yes to his silent drink offer.

Soon they were seated next to each other as Cristina and Mark silently disappeared. Side by side they sat in silence as the music played loudly in the background. The graze of his thigh against her own caused Meredith to jump in her seat. As he glanced quickly over his drink, laughing lightly, he leaned in and whispered in her ear "your awfully jumpy."

His breath was sweet, smelling from the scotch as it lightly fanned across her ear and cheek. Turning her face until she was inches from his she smiled, "what?"

"So what's your story?" Derek asked.

"What story? I don't have a story. I'm just a girl in a bar."

"I'm just a guy in a bar."

Raising his drink in a silent toast, he leaned back in his stool smiling as he sipped the scotch. She had secrets. Many of them, and he wanted to learn each and every one of them. The playfulness in those green eyes turned dark as she watched him stare at her.

"I think I need a drink" she whispered.

Motioning for the bartender she felt a hand on her shoulder as Cristina joined her once again. Her hair fell wildly now around her shoulders and her clothes were in disarray so there was no denying where she had disappeared to.

Cristina just shrugged her shoulders and laughed, "what can I say he's that good."

The bartender finally wondered over to them, and Meredith was set to order her next shot of the night when Cristina leaned towards the bartender and ordered their drinks.

"What did you just order?" Meredith asked eyeing her friend.

"Just play it cool Meredith, and remember we are here to have fun."

"Cristina!" Meredith's voice rang out in a sing song tone that brought on a burst of laughter from Derek.

Turning to face him, she smiled as the bartender walked over carrying two shots. Meredith's eyes grew wide as she eyed the green liquor, "is that?"

Cristina only nodded as she picked her glass up holding it out in salute as Meredith picked up her own still puzzled, "but how?"

"Don't ask questions Meredith, just drink up and hold on tight!"

Cristina tilted her head back swallowing the last drop as Mark laughed, "that's my girl."

Standing, staring at the glass Meredith shook her head and finally joined her friend "here goes nothing!" swallowing the shot of absinthe. Her face contorted as the liquor burned her insides.

Screaming part in joy part in pain, she grimaced as Cristina grabbed her pulling her out on the dance floor "dance with me!"

The music flowed through her body as she jumped, twirled and grinded with Cristina. Finally, letting go of everything she just allowed herself to be. Laughing in pure joy, she bounced around with her friend all the while aware of the piercing stare of Derek Shepherd. From time to time, she would allow their eyes to meet, watching him adjust and readjust in his seat as she worked her body to the music.

Derek could hardly contain himself. In the last few moments his pants had grown two sizes too tight as the beautiful blonde that was Meredith Grey taunted and teased him from the dance floor. Images of her naked body writhing in his bed filled his head as he watched her perfectly tight ass shake to the music.

He noticed the gentleman eyeing her from the corner. Watched as he stood and slowly made his way over to her. A knot forming in his stomach as the man placed a hand on her shoulder causing Derek to sit up in his seat, wanting nothing more than to lunge at the overly smug man.

Just as she was about to lose herself in those mysterious blue orbs, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Glancing behind her she noticed a gentleman dressed in dark jeans and black shirt smiling.

"Hi, I know this is extremely straight forward of me, but I've been watching you since you walked in and I was wondering if you wouldn't perhaps want to dance with me?"

Staring into the eyes of the new stranger Meredith felt not a hint of the excitement that seemed to bubble from the sudden arrival of Derek. Reminding herself this might be a good thing, she smiled at the new stranger and nodded a quick yes.

Turning back to glance at Derek, she noticed his eyes take on a darker blue. A new emotion overriding what had once filled them before. It scared her and thrilled her all at the same time.

Derek sat and watched as this woman he had just met worked her way through the crowd. The simple black dress clung to her body in just the right ways. The outline of her hips as they swayed with her walk. The way it dipped just enough to reveal the top of her breasts, she was beautiful and something akin to jealousy was building in the pit of his stomach as he watched the man slip his arms around her waist and pull her near.

Slamming back the rest of his scotch, he motioned for another as the tempo of the music changed to something slow. Meredith paused and quickly shook her head no at the stranger as she bit her lip, and finally allowed him to pull her in again to the sweet music.

Clinching the glass of scotch in his hand, his eyes narrowed in anger as he watched the man's hands slip lower. Gently cradling her hips as he held her small frame pressed to him.

Brooding Derek turned away from the scene. Scanning the crowds of beautiful women, hoping one might appeal to him as she had. This stranger he hadn't even had a full conversation with. A blonde-haired green-eyed imp who had laughter like music and a smile that could melt any freeze.

Turning back to the couple on the dance floor, his eyes met with hers. Her gaze went from cold to smoldering, smiling softly he once again raised his drink in salute as he continued to let his eyes penetrate her. Standing, his steps never faltered as he had only one destination in mind. He needed to ease the pain coursing through his body and right now she was the only one that could help.

His gaze never wavered. As she stared back, she could feel her breath catching deep inside her body. Her steps faltered as she watched him stand. Her thoughts clustering as she realized he was walking this way. The drumming in her chest grew louder as he moved in closer. Wearing a cocky smile, his eyes narrowed and he silently questioned her asking her to dance without ever speaking a word.

Nodding, she attempted to smile. Trying to process the hold this stranger had on her body. The control he manipulated was unnerving and exhilarating at the same time.

"Mind if I cut in?"

The stranger who held Meredith in his arms started to object but noticing the darkness that shot through Derek's. Moving out of the way he left, leaving the two strangers standing face to face on the overly crowded dance floor. However, for them it seemed as if they were alone, as the music started, and she was in his arms.

It was so new and so familiar at the same time. Heat radiating through her as he pressed himself against her. Closing her eyes, she allowed her head to rest against his chest as he softly held her hand. She tried to control her breathing, tried to calm her pulse but it was impossible. His arms wrapped so comfortably around her. Her hand fit so naturally in his. Lifting her head, she smiled as he gazed down…

"This is weird. It's... I…"

Derek laughed as she stumbled over her words. To say it was weird was an understatement. To be drawn to somebody like this was not his style. Breathing deep he let the floral scent envelope him. Wondering what it was that drew him to her so strongly. The greenness of her eyes, the softness of her hair maybe? Smiling, he listened to her nervous laughter and thought that just maybe it was everything combined, she was amazing.

Leaning in, his eyes watched hers for signs of resistance. Letting his gaze drop to her full lips, he smiled briefly before he captured them between his own.

She gasped. Her hands instantly found their way into his hair as his mouth gently moved over hers. He tasted like scotch and his hands were like magic. Standing in the middle of the dimly lit floor, she allowed him to tangle his hands in her wavy tresses. Tipping her head back, he gained better access as his tongue explored her mouth, over her jaw line and finally nipping his way across her throat.

Moaning, someone was moaning, was it him? Shock registering through her body as he felt the noise radiating deep from within her chest.

Derek knew he should pull away. He knew this was too fast, but she was whimpering and moaning, and this was stealing all self-control until the only thought in his mind was kissing her. Touching her. Images filled his head. Thoughts of her ivory skin being exposed. Thoughts of sinking himself deep inside her. Guiding her slowly they managed to walk to the back of the club. A secluded nook. Void of light and noise.

Pushing her up against the wall, he spoke softly as he trailed hot kisses along her jaw line.

"This is insane."

Nodding, she tried to speak but couldn't as he was suddenly kissing her again. She could feel the wetness as it pooled into the black thong she had decided to leave on at the last minute. Her body strained against his as his strong hands lifted her against him.

Somewhere in the back of her head, reason was shouting at her. They were in a public club. He was a stranger! Anyone could walk up at any time. Her mind lost all thought though as his hand closed over her thigh and pushed her dress slowly up exposing the delicate skin. The only thing that mattered was him "car…" she whispered huskily as he continued his plight of seduction.

Pulling back, Derek glanced into those deep green eyes. He felt as if he was staring at someone he'd known a lifetime. As if he'd been with her, walked with her, knew her as if no one else did, "are you sure?"

"I, this is… Well, I don't know what this is but, we need to get out of here." she breathed deeply trying to gain some sense of composure, "I need you. I want you."

"Your place or mine?"

She hesitated briefly and then let all caution go, "yours."
