What happens when six legends rise from a lake and are found by the Avengers, and Peter gains a very strange history teacher?
people speaking from the other side of the coms.
chapter 1
The Avengers day had started like usual, Steve making breakfast, Bucky and Sam bickering, Nat and Wanda betting who would throw something first, Clint trying to prank Nat (failing obviously), Peter late for school, Tony 'waking up' (coming up from his lab) for food, Pepper telling him off sending him to bed for a bit, Vision gaining blackmail for Wanda, Thor complaining about the lack of pop tarts. And Bruce just trying to have some morning coffee in peace.
But of course soon things took there turn when a curtain pirate walled into the Avenger's Tower with worrying news and calling a meeting.
He spoke about an energy reading they got from a lake in England. "What's so special about a lake?" Clint asked not really paying much attention.
"Well Barton, it has a similar energy signature to the tesseract." That sobered everyone up, so now everyone was paying strong attention to each and every word said, as they did not what a repeat of last time what Loki had the tesseract.
With that said it didn't take long to form a plan everyone agreed on, so within the hour everyone was suited up. Nat, Steve, Tony, Wanda and Clint on the Quinjet. Bucky, Sam, Thor and Vision as back up on another jet further back (much to Backy and Sam's dismay). And finally Bruce and Peter at the tower watching over everyone's vitals and the lakes signal in case something happens. (After taking Pete out of school as he somehow managed to find out this and wanted to help, so now he's helping Bruce as the team wants him to be safe) with Nick standing with the two geniuses, why, no clue.
So that's how we got to Tony currently having a mental breakdown. Why? Because he can't get the jet to go within one mile of the lake without the jet or his suit malfunctioning. And to make matters worse after coming closer to the lake they found it was much stronger than the tesseract.
so eventually they left to jet with the others in the surrounding forest in a clearing and continued on foot with Tony leaving his suit.
They walked in silence for the most of it, if you ignore Tony and Clint's constant grumbling, till Wanda spoke up. "Is it just me or do you feel that?" "Feel what?" Nat glanced at the younger woman. "Magic... power, peace, hope... grief." No one replied but they could all feel the difference in the atmosphere here then where they left the jet. It felt clean, pure and untainted unlike the polluted air of New York.
It didn't take long for the five Avengers to finally find the end of the forest and was greeted with short, dense and amazingly healthy looking grass leading up to a large almost endless lake with water shimmering a metallic silver in the suns gaze, with an island in the middle with a large stone pillar. This was one of those places where you can almost feel the history in front of you without knowing anything.
"Wow" was all anyone could say. "Are you guys seeing this?" Steve asked never taking his gaze away from the lake. Multiple 'yeah's' and 'uh huh's' where heard through the coms.
After a moment of silence Peters voice came through "Hey, Mr Stark, are you feeling ok, like any discomfort or anything?" He sounded concerned. "I feel fine Bambi, why wouldn't I?" In all truth Tony felt better then he had in a long time since he had his arc reactor, he felt like there wasn't a bit of metal keeping him alive.
"Well," this time it was Bruce, "your reactor is somehow gaining energy from the air around the lake, not causing harm, it's helping it really in a very strange way.." Now the others were curious.
"Could it be some form of magic?" Wanda suggested, "How have you come to that conclusion Ms Maximoff?" Now it was Fury. Wanda was now the only one who still had not looked away from the water. "Since we got here I have been feeling my powers almost react to this place, bubbling under my skin, almost in a happy way, like it knows something about what this place is..."
Before anyone could question her more she pointed to the lake. "Is it just me or is the water moving?!"
We all turned to look at the water, and yes it was moving, "Its probably just the wind." Clint said but was quickly proven wrong when six different whirlpools appeared. "Or maybe not..."
Steve quickly getting over his shock ordered: "Everyone! Get behind those rocks! Quickly! Come on Tony!" He grabbed Tony who had made no move to hide from whatever was happening and joined the others who were behind the rocks, luckily large enough to hide all of their forms behind, and watch. What? They weren't sure.
The whirlpools grew by the second, quickly speeding up as well, as they sped up gold shimmers could be seen slowly, unnoticeably getting bigger till the once blue water was a blazing gold till it all stopped and the whirlpool disappeared and then the water was once more still and blue.
Before anyone could say anything, one by one Figures burst through the the water.
The first flipped their head throwing it backwards out the water, reminding the avengers of Ariel and Thor of Loki, as their wet hair was out their face. They saw it was a male, possibly early 30's or late 20's. He had a dark brown beard, a similar colour to his long hair about Loki's length, and dressed in... chain mail, a sword on his hip, a red cape with a golden dragon embroidered on the shoulder.
The second was was a man, looked roughly like they same age as the first man, with short light brown hair and chain Mail much like the first, (except for the lack of sleeves as well as his muscular build much like Steve's) sword, and the same cape and gold dragon.
The next was a black male possibly mid/late 20's with short hair, like the first two, the same chain Mail, cape with the dragon and sword.
Then came another man, this one looked to be in his late 30's or early 40's, brown curly hair bronze in the light. And again same armour, cape and sword at his hip.
Next was another male mid/late 20's. Short brown hair, and much like the others, he wore the same chain mail, sword and cape.
The only one whirlpool remained active, but nothing had came through yet, as the other men, seamlessly dressed as knights walked on the grassy shore, and looked around. When seeing each others faces they stood in shock. Silent for a moment.
"So... that woman wasn't lying." The Loki haired one began, "I feel so... horribly sober." The muscular one was the only one to move, he walked up to him and pulled him into a hug.
"God I missed you" He said into the other man's hair, he looked up, "All of you." That seemed to wake up the others from their dazed state, as they joined the two 'knights' in the hug. No words were said, as it seem none could describe what these men were feeling.
"Anyone got some ail or mead?" All men separated to look at the one who supposedly spoke, and laughed lightly.
"Thats what your worried about Gwaine, not the fact that we were all dead not long ago" the black male said to 'Gwaine'.
"I got my priorities," he smirked before frowning, "hey... where's Princess?"
As if on cue, the last whirlpool sped up, gaining the attention of everyone.
The water began to... rise? Upwards in a spiral going from the water to the land, it stayed that way for a moment before a golden light shot through the water, when, landing on the grass the gold formed a figure- a human. Then within a blink of an eye the water retraced back to the water, leaving what looked like a male to collapse to the ground, same cape, same armour... but no sword? He looked to be in his late 20s blonde hair. Unlike the others he was drenched from head to toe. He saw coughing like crazy as if he had almost drowned... which didn't seem that hard to believe when thinking about it.
Without a moment of hesitation the 'knights' ran to the man's side, calling out: "Sire" "My Lord" "princess"
The curly haired man checked on 'Princess', as the others surrounded the man, who had yet to get of the floor, as he looked around dazed.
"Sire?" The man looked up to the muscular man as he crouched down to the blondes level, "Are you alright?"
The dazed man remained silent still observing his surroundings, as if looking for something in particular, or someone. A minute passed before the blonde mumbled something, barely audible but the hidden avengers still heard.
"Merlin"
