hello and welcome to Shadow of Myself. this is my first Nightwing fanfic and justice league fanfic, but I promise it is long overdue. This first chapter is quite short I will admit, they will get much longer by chapter 5. This story does have Nightwing and my oc as the main love story, but there is an exciting mystery that runs central through the story.
December 10th
In the depths of Gotham City, where darkness prowls the streets and danger lurks in every shadow, Dick Grayson, known to the world as Nightwing, prowls the rooftops with a sense of purpose. His vigilant eyes scanned the cityscape, searching for any sign of trouble. Little did he know that trouble was about to find him in the most unexpected form.
As he leaped gracefully from one building to the next, his thoughts were interrupted by a sudden commotion below. Peering over the edge, he spotted a figure clad in black, moving with a grace that matched his own. It was her—Belladonna, a notorious thief whose exploits had earned her a reputation as quite the thief in Gotham city, stealing millions of dollars from some of Gotham's most elite
Their paths had crossed many times before, each encounter filled with tension and rivalry. As Belladonna darted through the streets, Nightwing pursued her with determination, his heart pounding with adrenaline. Their cat-and-mouse game led them through the labyrinthine alleyways of Gotham, each leap and twist bringing them closer together.
Finally, Nightwing cornered her in a narrow alley, their breath mingling in the cold night air. For a moment, they stood locked in a silent standoff. He assessed her as she stood, her dark blonde hair slicked back into a long braid that fell to her waist, smooth like honey, her dark violet mask covering her eyes just as his mask did. Her black leotard which covered her chest and arms but left most her thigh visible. She wore knee-high boots, wine coloured with a hint of purple to match her mask. She bore no symbol on her suite to refer tp er alias belladonna ; she had got that name from the gas bombs she used, which had dosages of the belladonna plant in the gas, enough to paralyse but not kill.
"What's your game, Belladonna?" Nightwing's voice was low and dangerous, but there was a hint of curiosity in his tone.
Belladonna met his gaze with defiance, her eyes flashing with defiance. "Isn't it obvious, Nightwing? I'm here to steal your heart," she replied, hugging her duffel bag of money like a big teddy bear she had at the fair, a big grin on her face.
Despite himself, Nightwing couldn't help but be drawn to her fiery spirit. Yes, she was a criminal, but she never seemed to kill. She was violent in combat, but nothing Nightwing couldn't handle. Batman rarely engaged with her since she was not so much a threat to civilians, her heists having only a few casualties, sometimes none. Hence it was usually Nightwing who was sent to disarm her schemes, something he began to take pleasure in.
"You know I can't let you leave with that," he said reaching for his escrima sticks. The sound of sirens approaching signalled that Gotham's police department was near, "it's now or never." With that Belladonna leaped into action, using the wall to leap against and head straight for Nightwing with a kick. Nightwing sidestepped the incoming kick with fluid grace, his years of training evident in his seamless movements. As Belladonna's foot whizzed past him, he spun on his heel, delivering a swift counterattack aimed at her midsection.
But Belladonna was quick to anticipate his move. With a dancer's agility, she twisted her body mid-air, narrowly avoiding Nightwing's strike. Landing lightly on her feet, she retaliated with a rapid flurry of punches, aiming for Nightwing's exposed flank.
Nightwing deftly blocked and parried each blow, his escrima sticks a blur of motion as he expertly countered Belladonna's attacks. Their movements were a mesmerizing dance of skill and agility, each combatant seeking to gain the upper hand in the intense showdown.
As the sound of approaching sirens grew louder, the urgency of the situation heightened. Belladonna knew she had to act fast if she wanted to escape with the valuable money she had obtained. But Nightwing had managed to snatch the duffel bag which she had on her shoulder
"You'll have to try harder than that," Nightwing said, his voice firm and unwavering as he held the bag out of Belladonna's reach. "I can't let you leave with this."
The sirens were in the proximity. Belladonna grunted in frustration, in a blink had flashed into the shadows. Nightwing couldn't hide his smug smile as he approached Gordon, duffle bag in hand.
"I've got your missing goods here," Nightwing said with pride in his voice as he reached for the zip. Gordon thanked him, but Nightwing's smile quickly faded as he unzipped the bag to reveal plain pieces of paper, cut and stacked to imitate money. Nightwing sighed in defeat. Batman was going to be pissed. "I apologise sincerely, and will do what I can to retrieve the money. Whose money was stolen?" He asked.
"Ronald Danzer," Gordon replied plainly. Mr Danzer was anything but a good man. He was a crook through and through. Whenever he attended charity events with Bruce, Dick could not stand the sight of the man, overly drunk declaring his hatred for women, that they had no place in business except as hot secretaries. A politician who didn't deserve a single couldn't help but be relieved Denzer had taken a blow to his wrongly deserved wealth. He looked back to the alley where he and Belladonna fought and couldn't hide his smirk.
When Dick reached the Batcave he did indeed get a light lecturing from Bruce, which then led to Dick being told he was to acquaint Bruce to a charity event the next night. It was one of the downsides of being a Wayne heir, having to attend these events where the filthy rich could flaunt a philanthropic facade, but it was simply a facade. A bit of good to seem like samaritans, when in actual fact they were anything but.
Thankyou for reading the first chapter. Reviews would mean so much, would love to hear any thoughts!
