Bella's choice to rescue
Rewritten version of Bella's choice, in which she decides to go and rescue Kol before he comes (because she's not a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued, but a lady who does the rescuing herself lol). A few facts change to fit the story. It also happens right before Bella's first summer in Forks, after her leg has healed. A few things change so that those of you who've read the first version will still be surprised once in a while.
As I wrote this, I got an idea for a possible third version... Maybe I'll do it... I don't know yet.
Bella was in her bedroom, facing what she figured would be the biggest dilemma of her entire life, no matter how long she was going to get to live. Well, maybe she was being a bit dramatic. She'll probably have to face bigger dilemas later on, but right now, she was lost and needed to make a decision.
All she had to do was decide if she'd stay home for the summer, with her father and her friends the Cullen's, safe, like any normal human teenage girl, or if she'd go and look for HIM, but she didn't know if she should. Maybe she should wait for him to come to her, maybe she should ask for help, maybe... so many possibilities... so many maybes...
She'd have to lie to her father, unless she risked telling him the truth. What if she told him the truth and he had her committed? Would the Cullens come and help her? Would they help her find him?
Charlie was fishing.
She envied him. Not that she wanted to go fishing, but he didn't have a life changing decision to make, all he had to do is try and catch a fish that would be bigger than Billy's or Harry's to win their friendly little competition and everything would be fine for him.
She had tried keeping busy to help her think. She cleaned the floor, did the laundry, dusted everything (even the spots nobody ever saw or went near), cooked... Nothing worked. She couldn't even concentrate on her homework, not that she had many of them. They had a week of school left before the summer vacation and she had already read most of the books from their summer reading list.
Another argument in favor of looking for Kol, the summer hadn't started and she had almost finished all of the homework she had been given for the long vacations. Plus, the one book she had left the read, she knew for sure that Elijah, Kol's brother, had it. A first edition. Wouldn't it be grand to read this book for the first time in such an old edition?
And she needed to find others things to do besides reading. Now she knew that she had read a large amount of the books she'd have to read next year too, an older student had shown her the list.
Immediately, she started imagining herself laying in Kol's arms, in some garden, under the bright sun. Kol was holding his brother's ancient book and reading it to her. Oh, how she wanted this... Suddenly, this was the only way she wanted to read this book. Reading it normally would be such a failure to her now...
All she could think about was the fact that someone meant for her was prisoner of a box somewhere far away and that she couldn't be with him.
Maybe Edward would help her if she asked for his help, they were friends after all. Of course he never hid the fact that he wanted more from her, but she had always been clear with him that she just wanted to be his friend, that she was "spoken for" even though he didn't know by whom. He seemed curious but he never tried to question it, never asked her for more information. He seemed to be waiting for her to tell her story so maybe if she did, he'd help...
She hadn't told any of the Cullen's about Kol, her soul mate. They didn't know about the dreams, about the fact that he was destined for her. She did consider asking them to change her, just so she'd be strong enough to save Kol, after all, his family knew of a way to change a Cold One into an original vampire, but it would be wrong and she knew it. If she tried, she had to try the human way first.
All she knew was that she couldn't give up. She had to do something and the fact that her cast had been taken off that morning by Carlisle pushed her to think that, for some reason, she had to do it now, this summer. She felt like the time had come to take action, she just didn't know which actions she needed to take.
It was like the cast being taken off gave her a new sense of freedom. A need to run right to Kol.
She even imagined changing his dagger into some sort of necklace or bracelet to ensure that it was never again used against her love.
Did she really want to wait and play the role of the princess who gets rescued or did she want to be the kind of princess who went to save her prince?
Bella looked at the clock to see that it was almost time for her father to come home and she wasn't even close to finding a solution and knowing what she'd do about her problem.
She sighted.
She remembered when it really started.
It wasn't when she met Edward and his family, no, it started much sooner than that...
-12 years ago in Phoenix -
Bella was just a little over 6 years old and her mother had taken her to the market.
As usual, Renee went from one stand to another without checking if her daughter was with her, knowing that the little girl would follow her, even from afar and would find her eventually. After all, Bella was already very responsible, all of her teachers said so.
While her mother was flirting with the man selling tomatoes, hoping to get a discount, Bella looked around and saw, right across the street, a teenage boy with weird funny hair all over the place running fast toward an old woman and pushing her aside harshly. The shock was so hard that the poor woman dropped her grocery basket on the floor.
When Bella saw that everybody ignored the old woman, she glanced at her mother. Since Renee was still talking, laughing really, with the same man, Bella rushed to the other side of the street to help the woman who was now on her knees, trying to pick up all of her groceries before someone stepped on them.
Bella started by helping the woman stand up, with difficulty, then she grabbed everything from the ground and, once the basket was full once more, she handed it back to the woman with a smile.
"Thank you young lady. It's not often someone so young helps me without being asked first." The old woman told Bella.
"Oh... You're welcome." Bella nodded politely with a smile and a small blush.
"I'm going to give you something special to thank you young one. What's your name, child?"
"Isabella Swan, but I liked to be called Bella. You don't have to give me anything, you know... I was happy to help." She replied, shaking her head.
The old woman took the girl's hands in hers and said:
"I know, that's why I'm doing it. You're going to have a hard time believing me young one, but you'll have the proof I'm telling you the truth later on in your life. The supernatural world exists. Witches, werewolves, vampires of two different kinds, shapeshifters... You're going to get sucked into this world one day and, for the first time in your life, you'll find that you completely belong somewhere. Your one true love, your soul mate, the one perfect love that was made for you and for which you were made for... You will meet him... He will come and find you eventually. Until then, he'll always be with you, in your dreams. You'll know everything about him, his life and his family before ever meeting him."
Bella didn't know if she should call for help or believe the woman but she decided to trust her instinct and to believe that what the old woman was saying was the truth.
"Like my prince charming?" Bella asked.
She was a little girl after all, she had read, and been read, a lot of fairy tales and if she knew one thing, it was that the love of the prince charming always wake up or heal the princess.
"Yes child, your prince charming. You'll meet other loves, or potential loves, but they will never compare to the perfectness of the love of your true love, your prince charming if you will. Only the one you'll start dreaming of tonight will be perfect for you and make you truly happy forever. Do you understand Bella?" The old woman asked and insisted, looking Bella in the eyes.
"Yes, I do." Bella nodded seriously.
"I have to go now, I can't be late. Have a good life Isabella Swan, maybe we'll cross again. I'll definitely remember you."
Then, before Bella could add anything else, the woman was gone and Bella was alone with the woman's perfume lingering on her hands as only proof that it really happened. She would have liked to think more about it, to sit down and think it over, compare what she's been told to all the fairy tales she had read but she didn't have time, from the corner of her eyes, she could see her mother walking away with a fuller groceries bag and moving up to another stand without checking of her daughter was behind.
Should she even tell her mother what just happened?
Shaking her head, she decided that she needed to keep this to herself and she ran as fast as she could to catch up with her, deciding to forget all about this until she had to go to bed. If she truly dreamt of her prince, then she would believe it, if she didn't, then it meant that old woman was crazy.
"You're breathing so loudly Bella honey, is everything okay? You're so flushed!" Renee asked her daughter after looking down.
"I'm fine mom, I just ran, that's all." Bella replied.
"Oh, okay then. Come now, I want to buy some fish, I want to try something new." Renee replied, going forward once more, not even asking her daughter why she had to run in the first place, having never realized that her daughter had left her side.
Bella frowned. Her mother wanted to try something new with fish? It looked like the dinner wouldn't be edible once more. Sometimes, she wished her mother would be more like other mothers, cooking normal food.
.
Bella was about to go to bed and she was nervous. She was even more nervous now than when she had to stand in front of the whole class to do her book report. Right now, she didn't know if she really wanted to know if it was true or not.
Of course, like every little girl in the world, she wanted to meet Prince Charming and be a princess but that was in the book world, could it really happen in the real life world?
"You're still up Bella, I know that tomorrow is Sunday and that you can sleep in but it's almost 10:30, you need to get some sleep honey." Renee said as she entered the room and closed the curtains that showed a full moon shining brightly over the town.
"I know. Goodnight mom." Bella replied, resigned.
"Goodnight Bella." Her mother replied before she kissed her daughter's forehead and left the room, closing the door behind her.
Bella wished she could still see the moon. She always found it reassuring to see it shining over everything, especially when it was full, it was much prettier, almost poetic.
She turned the light off and closed her eyes, knowing that she wouldn't be able to escape sleep for much longer.
.DREAM.
Bella found herself in a village with wooden houses and no trace of electricity or roads. The way people were dressed showed her that it was a very long time ago.
Nobody could see her and she could walk through anything she wanted, even people, it was kind of fun.
She had appeared next to a house where a man was cutting wood with a much younger man. Instinctively Bella knew it was his son. Suddenly a woman appeared out the door. She had pretty long blond hair but when Bella looked in her eyes, she knew that the woman wasn't pretty on the inside, like the evil women of the fairy tales.
"Mickeal, Finnik, lunch is served." She announced.
"Are they all back yet?" The man asked.
Just like she had known that the woman wasn't that nice, Bella knew that the man wasn't a soft daddy like her own. This one was mean and hard, she could tell.
"Niklaus and Henrik just came back. Elijah and Kol brought a big deer back earlier." The woman replied as they all went inside.
Bella didn't want to be left alone outside so she followed them in and saw a lot of people. She was used to a house with just her and her mother, or just her and her father, and here she saw that beside the parents, there was 5 boys and 1 girl, it mustn't be easy to grow up with all those brothers for the young girl.
She shook herself out of her thought and as the family started to eat, she took to observing the boys, looking for the one that would be her prince.
Finnik, the oldest, looked way too serious to Bella's taste. Of course she was a serious girl herself, but she had limits. The little boy next to him, Henrik, was not that good looking according to Bella and though it wasn't the most important thing in a prince, she knew they still had to be good looking to the princess. The one named Elijah looked much too serious too according to Bella and Rebekah was obviously a girl and a prince couldn't be a girl, she was sure of that.
There was only two boys left, well, young men really.
Niklaus was blond and quite good looking. Bella could tell that he wasn't happy and that he had a kind soul, one she could connect to and become good friends with eventually but she could see, in his eyes, fear. He was looking at his father and if he was afraid of his father, then he couldn't be her prince, because she knew that her prince had to be brave. Niklaus would be her friend though, she knew that, but not her prince.
Since there was only one left, she walked closer to him and, when he looked up, she was allowed to see his eyes. She vaguely heard the mother calling him Kol. Bella knew he was the one. Her one perfect Love, her prince... The one she would meet some day.
Kol.
She watched as they finished their day and went to hide in the caves to escape from the werewolves for the night. She watched as Finnik and Kol helped their mother do magic to protect the caves better. It was obvious by the look in his eyes that Kol loved to do magic, it seemed natural to him and his mother seemed very proud of him, just like her mother was proud when she brought a good grade home.
Bella decided to stay by Kol's side and even if he didn't see her, she felt closer to him. Before they fell asleep, they told tales, scary stories about the werewolves and other monsters of the night. It scared Bella and she felt better by Kol's side, like, even though he couldn't see or touch her, he was protecting her.
When, in the middle of the night, she saw Niklaus being woken up by Henrik, she tried to wake up Kol but it didn't work since she wasn't really there. She cried in fear when they left the caves and decided to follow them, yelling for them to come back even though they couldn't hear a werewolf about to turn back into a man caught sight of them, he jumped and Bella cried even harder when she realised that Henrik, her prince's younger brother, was dead.
.
Little Bella woke up crying.
Little Henrik was dead and even if she didn't know him, it was sad because he was still young when it happened. She didn't know how but she knew that it had all really happened a long time ago. She wondered how Kol could be her true love when he had lived so long ago but she was confident that the answers would come to her with time. She had to believe that the old woman, maybe a witch, had been right and that she would know everything about him and eventually, she had to trust that he would come to find her, love her and that, just like in books, she would have her happily ever after.
That's it, first part of this rewritten story. Not many changes.
In the first version, Davina got imprinted on by Seth. I'm changing it to someone else, what do you think? A few other pairings might change as well. Charlie will be paired up, should Damon and Bree still be together? Also, People who were bad guys in the other version will be good guys here.
Review please?
I'm finally publishing this now that it's mostly complete. i'll update once a week I think, depending on how many reviews I get. Sooner if I get more reviews.
