Chapter 1

It was supposed to be a routine trip through the Gate for SG-1. But they didn't arrive off world. Instead, they found themselves in a cave and looked at a much smaller gate that they just walked through.

Jack asked, "Where are we, Carter?"

"Obviously on not P3X-1984." she replied. She found the dial home device and started to analyze the readings on her computer.

Daniel had shined a flashlight on the cave walls. "Looks like Mojave." he noted.

Teal'c had walked to the mouth of the cave and looked outside. "O'Neill." he called.

Jack walked up to the mouth and looked out as well. It looked much like desert and a highway in the distance. "That's a road."

"Sir!" Sam called.

He looked back, "What ya got, Carter?" he asked.

"We are still on earth, sir." she determined.

He walked back to the smaller gate. "What?" he asked.

"Somehow the wormhole hit a solar flare again. The protocols failed." she reported.

"Does that mean we are back in 1969?" he asked concerned.

"Not sure." she replied.

"O'Neill." Teal'c called again.

He walked back to the mouth of the cave. "What is it, T?"

He pointed towards the horizon of the sky.

Jack squinted as he spied a very fast moving helicopter. "Huh." He could not make out any marking on the black painted aircraft but did make out the basic body shape. "Looks like a Bell 222." he noted. Then the chopper in the distance suddenly shot off like a rocket. Jack's head snapped back in surprise. "That chopper just hit mach one." he yelled, "Hey Carter. Check this out."

Annoyed Sam placed her computer down and went to the mouth of the cave. She spied a fast moving helicopter circling around at a very high rate of speed. "Choppers can't move that fast." she stated. "Looks like an old Bell."

"That's mach one." Jack insisted. "Choppers can't do that."

"None that we know of." she agreed. "I need to find out when the next solar flare will be to send us back. We could be here a while, sir."

Jack was looking at the fast flying chopper with a gleam in his eye. "Look at that chopper go." he spoke more to himself. "I bet that's a blast to fly."

"Must be something experimental." Sam agreed. They then watched as the chopper headed towards a flat topped large mountainous rock. It then hovered over the tower like rock formation and descended into the structure. It was then gone from view. "Weird." she noted.

"Must be the hiding spot." Jack figured.

Daniel made his way to the mouth of the cave. He had his nose stuck in his notebook. "The glyphs in the cave speak off a god who would come here and take children." He noticed the team all had eyes on a far away rock formation. "Did I miss something?" he wondered.

"Yes!" Jack huffed. "There was a chopper flying around out there at mach one."

"And?" he asked with a shrug.

"Choppers can't do mach one." Jack told him.

He pushed up his glasses annoyed.

Sam stated, "Obviously that one can. We need to find out when and where we are and I need to find out when the next solar flare will be." She went back to pack up her gear. "There is no use staying here." she told them.

Jack figured. "We can walk down to the highway. Maybe we can catch a ride."

"Maybe." Sam agreed gathering her gear.

In short time SG-1 had hiked to the highway and in full gear. They started to walk towards the west.

Daniel stated, "I doubt we will get a lift. We're in full combat gear. This will scare people off."

"We can't just ditch the gear, Daniel." Jack told him.

"We are going to stick out like a sore thumb." he reminded him.

He agreed, "I know."

Soon a loudly painted jeep was coming down the road behind them. Jack turned and held out his thumb.

In the jeep, Dominic Santini drove with Caitlin O'Shannessy in the passenger's seat and Stringfellow Hawke sitting behind. Dom spoke to Cait. "You did good up there with the Lady, Cait." All were sporting civilian clothing.

"Thanks Dom." she replied.

String pointed ahead, "Check that out Dom. Looks like military."

"There aren't any maneuvers out this way." Dom stated. He slowed the jeep and came to a halt by the four strange hitchhikers.

String eyeballed the patches and noticed the US flag on the sleeves.

Dom asked, "You boys military?"

Jack stated, "Air Force." He looked the passengers over. An older man at the wheel sporting a red satin ball cap with Santini Air embroidered on across the top. He wore a blue satin jacket that also shined. Next to him was a blonde haired woman about thirty years of age. She wore a blue jeans and a leather jacket. In the back sat a brown haired man, wearing aviator sunglasses and an A-2 style leather jacket.

"You lost?" he asked him.

He replied. "Got detoured."

Dom asked, "You need a lift?"

Jack nodded and looked at the small jeep. "Got a bigger jeep?"

"Climb in." Dom then noticed the rank. "Colonel."

"Appreciate it!" Jack couldn't believe his luck. He climbed into the back. He looked at his team who wondered where they would sit for there was no more room. "Get in."

Teal'c stated. "There is a lack of seating."

"Just get in, T." Jack told him.

Teal'c then managed to squeeze himself in next to Jack.

Jack found himself squeezed between Teal'c and String. He looked at Sam and Daniel. "Get in."

Daniel climbed in with same and two basically sat on the floor boards on top of feet.

Dom looked back at the four squeezed into the back of his jeep. "Reminds of my days on base." he chuckled. "I got a whole bomber crew in a jeep once, Colonel."

Jack sat feeling squished. "That's great. Thanks for this."

Sam asked, "Can you tell us where we are?"

"Mojave desert." Dom told her. He then realized. "Oh, you are a miss."

She smirked annoyed.

Daniel asked, "I know this will sound kind of weird but can you tell us the date?"

Dom stated, "Today is Sunday. The first! Happy New Year…" he looked for a rank and found no insignia.

"New year?" Daniel asked.

"Happy 1984." he told him.

Sam then recalled. "There was a massive solar flare in 1984. In April."

Dom and his friends were not sure what to make of the comment. "You four going to base?"

Jack shook his head. "No! Probably not a good idea." He looked to Sam. "April."

"And today is the first of January, sir." she replied with a nod.

Daniel stated, "We need to lay low for a while."

Dom asked, "You four part of some top secret military experiment or something?"

Jack nodded. "It's top secret."

String asked, "Doing what?"

"It's top secret." Jack repeated.

Sam stated, "Sir! We need to get out of uniform and find a place to stay for four months."

Dom volunteered. "I'll help ya out."

Caitlin gasped. "Dom! We don't know who these strangers are."

"They are Air Force. I'm not turning my back on them." he told her. He placed the jeep in gear and started down the road.

Santini Air

The jeep rolled into the airfield. The employees had the day off and thus no witnesses. Dom had introduced himself to his guest upon parking the jeep. "I'm Dominic Santini. I few in European theater during World War Two. I was a fighter pilot. This is Caitlin O'Shannessy and that fella is Stringfellow Hawke. We all work as stunt pilots. This is my business."

Jack stated, "I'm Jack O'Neill, Colonel, US Air Force. Major Samantha Carter, Dr. Daniel Jackson and Teal'c. This is my team."

String climbed out of the jeep. He wore a brown leather flight jacket, jeans and a flannel shirt with boots. He asked. "What does your team do, Colonel?"

Jack debated what he should say. He was grateful for Dom helping them and knew they were in way over their heads. "Technically, that's classified. I really can't say. I wish I could though."

Daniel frankly stated. "Would you believe we go to other planets using a Star Gate?"

Dom went tightlipped as String shook his head not believing.

Caitlin laughed. "Funny and cute." she teased assuming it was some kind of joke. Surely, it was a joke for it sounded insane.

Dom went to the door of the hangar and opened it. "Come with me, Colonel." He led Jack and his team inside.

Caitlin and String lingered behind. Caitlin looked at String and asked, "What's up with Dom?"

"I don't know." he too noticed Dom did not laugh or think Daniel's claim was a joke. The pair followed SG-1 into the hangar.

Dom went to his office. Gathered a piece of paper and a pencil. He emerged and began to doodle on the paper. He then held the drawing up before SG-1. "You mean this thing?" he asked them.

On the paper was a sketch of the Star Gate.

Sam's raised her eyebrows. "Yes! How do you know about it?"

"I was flying scientist around for this experiment in 1945 for the military. I saw it in a warehouse. The guy who found it told me what it was and what he thought it did. They sent this guy through and he never came back. Earnest Littlefield. He was a nice guy. They got that thing out of storage and are playing with it again?" he wondered.

SG-1 traded glances.

Daniel explained. "Actually, we did find and rescue Earnest Littlefield. But it hasn't happened yet." he winced.

String asked, "What do you mean?"

Sam stated. "The Star Gate works by creating a wormhole from one Gate to another. It's like a doorway. Thing is. It's not fool proof and hiccups can happen. The wormhole hit a solar flare and was then bent around the sun instead of going to another planet. That gravitational pull…"

String squinted, "Would bend space time fabric and come right back to Earth but in another time."

Surprised Sam nodded, "Exactly! You know physics."

"A little." he confirmed.

"Well, that's what happened to us." she admitted. "But the wormhole connected to another Gate on Earth that we were not aware of. It's much smaller and in a cave."

Jack had to ask. "You guys know anything about the helicopter we saw flying around out there. That thing hit mach one."

"You saw Airwolf?" String asked.

Jack told him. "It was cool."

"It's top secret." String stated.

"So is the Gate." Jack replied.

Daniel pleaded. "We are stuck here with no support or backup. It was 2004. It's now 1984. We need help."

Dom told them. "I can help ya out. You can't run around in those uniforms and you need to store your weapons and gear."

Caitlin stated. "So, you guys go through this Gate thing to other planets and you need to bring weapons with you. What did you find on other planets?"

Jack replied "Aliens."

Daniel soothed. "We are generally an exploring team. We do make some friends. We also made some enemies. Mainly, false gods who like enslave people."

Sam sighed. "I know how all this sounds."

String nodded, "It sounds nuts."

"It does." she winced.

"But if Dom saw this gate thing and said the sent someone through it then I believe you." he told her.

Dom stated, "Come on. I got a place for you to store all your gear."

Daniel stated, "Don't suppose you have some clothes we can borrow?"

"Sure I do." he cheered. "Cait, you got something Major Carter can borrow."

"I think I do." she nodded.

String stated, "I got some clothes you can borrow, Colonel."

"Appreciate that." he stated.

Dom looked at Teal'c. "I think I have things that will fit ya, big guy. Mind if I asked about that thing on your forehead."

"It's a symbol of enslavement to a false god." Teal'c stated.

"Can you get it off?" Dom wondered.

He replied, "I cannot."

Daniel stated. "Teal'c is not from Earth. He's Jaffa. His people were enslaved to a false god named Apophis and he rose up and revolted. He helped us."

Jack looked at his friend. "How much juice you got with you, T?"

"Enough for fourteen days." he reported.

"Juice?" String asked.

Sam explained "Teal'c needs a special medication to survive. He has some with him but only for fourteen days. I don't think I can make more." She looked at Jack. "He's will need a symbiont in fourteen days, sir. We will have to use the little Gate we found to dial Chulak to get a symbiont for Teal'c or he dies."

Jack slowly nodded in thought. "We can do that with the mini gate we found."

String stated "After you four get settled, I want to see this…mini gate."

"Okay." Jack agreed.
