Welcome to Chapter 4! sorry it's quite short again.
Faber had had sex in many unorthodox places, the roof of a bank? That was a new one. Though not ideal, and at first slightly painful, the pleasure quickly outweighed any thought. In fact, she could not even comprehend a thought the entire time he was inside her. He was good, really good, and clearly loved to be in control, which in that moment was all she needed.
As they finally came down from their climax, Faber rolled off him and beside him, both naked, but still with their masks on, staring at the sky. As their heavy pants finally settled, Faber broke the silence, "For some reason, this feels like it was way overdue."
"Second that," Nightwing replied.
Nightwing shifted slightly, his gaze lingering on the stars above. "I never expected this," he admitted, his voice low and contemplative.
Faber turned to him, studying the profile of his masked face. "Me neither," she confessed, a hint of uncertainty creeping into her tone.
"It's complicated," Nightwing murmured, his fingers tracing idle patterns on the rooftop surface.
"Yeah," Faber agreed, a wistful smile playing at her lips. "But sometimes the best things are."
Their conversation drifted into a comfortable silence, the weight of their shared moment hanging in the air between them. Despite the complexities of their lives, they found solace in each other's presence, a silent understanding that transcended words.
Nightwing glanced at Faber, his eyes softening behind his mask. "I should go," he said reluctantly, pushing himself up from the rooftop.
Faber nodded, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. "Yeah, duty calls," she replied, her voice tinged with regret.
With a final glance, Nightwing disappeared into the night, leaving Faber alone on the rooftop with nothing but the memories of their forbidden encounter. As she watched him vanish into the shadows, she couldn't shake the feeling that their paths would cross again, that their connection was far from over. But for now, she was content to savour the lingering warmth of their embrace, knowing that in the chaos of Gotham, they had found a fleeting moment of peace together.
Very early morning, December 19th
Faber returned to an empty flat. When she texted Harriet for her whereabouts, it seemed that she had a similar idea on this starry night, except Harriet was in a healthy relationship with her girlfriend. Faber loved Harriet's girlfriend, Kate was quite the catch. She sometimes envied Harriet, not because o Kate, but because she wanted what they have, but she knew she never could.
Nearly every suitor she had encountered since her parents' passing was more so enamoured by her money more than anything else. It wasn't like it was the biggest problem in the world, but it still made finding a relationship difficult. And so she decided perhaps a relationship would inhibit her progress anyway.
Even after her hot and steamy encounter with Nightwing, she could not deter from her discovery. She lay in bed revising her calculations, envisioning the sample mapping in her head. It was all there, she had created it. The superhuman drug her parents had used on her.
Dick continued his patrol filled to the brim on adrenaline. He managed to collect criminals as easily as collected grapes from a luscious vine. Belladonna was definitely drugging him, she had to be, because he had never felt this good after sex - she was something else.
"Hey, so, you know how you're a computer whiz and all that?" Wally's voice crackled through the line.
"Among other talents, yeah. What's the favour?" Dick replied, curiosity piqued.
"Well, would you do me a massive favour and hack into Artemis's bank statement? I'm dying to know what she's getting me for Christmas," Wally's tone hinted at both excitement and desperation.
"You called me in the middle of patrol for that?" Dick couldn't help but chuckle.
"You're always more alert on patrol, figured it was the best time to catch you," Wally reasoned.
"Yeah, I can do that," Dick agreed easily.
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Wally spoke again, a hint of surprise in his voice. "Wait, really?"
Dick rolled his eyes, even though Wally couldn't see it. "Yes, really. Why, did you expect a lecture on ethics from the Bat-family?"
Wally laughed nervously. "Well, you know, you guys have pretty high standards and all that."
"Relax, I'm in a good mood tonight. Consider it done," Dick reassured him.
"Oh yeah? Then why the sudden good mood?" Wally persisted, his tone playful. "Oh my god, you're with a girl, aren't you?"
"No, it's not that," Dick replied, trying to keep the amusement out of his voice.
"You were with a girl!" Wally exclaimed, his excitement palpable.
"Maybe," Dick admitted with a smirk.
"Do I know who the lucky woman is?" Wally inquired eagerly.
"Fortunately, no," Dick replied, shaking his head.
"What do you mean? You think I'd steal her away from you with my impeccable looks? I've got Artemis, you don't need to worry, my boy," Wally joked, his tone light-hearted.
"Wally, you're relentless," Dick chuckled. "I'll share the details when I see you next."
"You're still coming to Artemis and my Christmas party, right? It's gonna be HUGE" Wally pressed.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world," Dick confirmed.
"Great, because if you don't show, I'm interrogating you about it the moment we're called for duty," Wally warned jokingly.
"I'll keep that in mind," Dick replied with a smirk. "Alright, I've got to go. Talk to you later." With that, he ended the call.
As Dick made his way back to his own apartment in Bludhaven, he couldn't not think about Belladonna. Of course he wanted to know who she was behind the mask, but something about the mystery made the memory of their entanglement all the more sexy. It's not like he would be the first to get involved with criminals, all things being said, Bruce was pretty comfortable with it. Plus, Damian would be out of the picture if it weren't for Bruce and Tahlia. I guess now he couldn't complain, he didn't have much of a leg to stand on.
When he got home, he decided to fulfil his promise to Wally. Much to his surprise, he saw that Artemis had ordered a ring. It was a very pleasant surprise, one that could only mean one thing, and he could not ruin Wally. He was happy, and at the same time, wondered if he would ever achieve a semblance of Wally and Artemis' relationship. With his lifestyle, it was hard to come by.
This is much shorter than I would want, but I promise the chapters will get longer from now on.
