Chapter Seven...
Razer looked around at the blackness that surrounded him. A bright red surrounded him which burned at his skin. Razer screeched in pain and tried to use his Lantern ring to protect himself. He then realized that his ring was gone. Soon enough, the burning stopped and Razer was left in space, however it seemed as though he could move freely and easily walk around. Razer blinked when he realized that a woman stood in front of him. It was Illana. He yelled out to her but he heard nothing except a soft whisper which seemed to come from his dead wife. He strained his neck to listen, but was too late when flames burnt around Illana. After a moment, the woman vanished and another figure appeared in her place. This times it was Aya. Aya stood stiff in front of him however at the same time, it wasn't her. Instead of white and green the A.I. was blue and black. Razer stared at her, even though he didn't want to he felt fear mix in his chest, which tightened his throat when he tried to call for her.
Aya narrowed her black eyes at him and raised her hand. In her palm it seemed as though she held the entire galaxy in her hand. Instead of just leaving the image alone, Aya enclose the galaxy in a fist, crushing it until dust poured from her hands. Before he could react, Aya stood before him and thrust her palm on his chest. Light blue light burst from her hand and erupted through Razer's chest. The young alien's eyes widened in fear as he stared down at his chest to see a hole that went straight through him. Instead of skin and blood, it looked as though he was hollow on the inside and as he stared at his chest, he realized that the hole was beginning to crack. Soon, the hole was as large as his entire chest as his entire neck. When he looked up, he saw that Aya was not staring down at him. He was falling..falling into nothingness. He was alone….he had failed Illana...his friends…..Aya...himself. A shatter sounded as he hit the floor.
Razer's eyes flew open and he quickly sat up, only to feel pain in his shoulder. He cried out softly and gripped his shoulder. He felt a hand push him back down and a voice sounded. "Woah there Razer, you really took a hit." The Red Lantern looked up to see Hal to his right. Razer breathed slightly out in relief, then looked over to his left to see Kilowag, who stared at him curiously. "What…" he hissed softly. The Bolavaxian chuckled. "Never knew ya had white hair." Razer quickly lifted his left hand to his head and felt his fingers brush through his pure white hair. The Red Lantern then realized that he was shirt less and that his ring was missing. He was about to say something when Hal interrupted him. "We had to get your shirt off to get to the wound on your shoulder." he said. Razer nodded softly and scooted back on the medical bed so he could lean back against the wall.
Hal crossed his arms as Razer situated himself and looked over to Kilowag with a slight nod. Kilowag looked over to Razer and breathed in softly. "Razer, we need to know what happened to you and...if it involved Aya at all." Razer instantly growled and sat up straight, doing his best to ignore the stabbing pain in his shoulder. "Aya had nothing to do with this!" he hissed, however he knew what he said was a lie. "I don't know why you-" Razer stopped abruptly as he felt another painful jab in his injured shoulder which forced him to lean back against the wall. "Razer, just tell us what actually happened...we know that Aya has been acting...strange.." Hal muttered, his eyes narrowed slightly. Razer hesitated, staring down at his hands. The Red Lantern sighed softly and looked up at both Green Lanterns. "I..I followed her to see what was the matter with her...sh-she wanted me to leave and when I refused...she..attacked me.." Razer said, tightly closing his eyes as he remembered the event.
The room remained dead silent for many moments as Hal and Kilowag both stared at Razer. "But why would Aya do that?" Kilowag stammered. Razer just shook his head softly. "I don't know…." he uttered sadly. In that moment, Hal was over at the Interceptors control and flight room. The Earthling began to quickly type into the panel by the front of the Interceptor. "We need to find her, now!" Hal said, rubbing his chin slightly as he looked at the last coordinates that Aya was at. Kilowag trotted over to Hal and shook his head softly. "I doubt we'd find her, she's a A.I.. Aya probably cloaked herself.." The Alien uttered softly, however his words seemed to of gone straight through Hal's head, since the Human didn't react to the Bolavaxians words. Razer's voice hissed through the air. "You don't believe that she did that on purpose right?" The Red Lantern growled at the Green Lanterns. Hal shook his head, but didn't speak, instead Kilowag seemed to speak for the Human. "No, we just believe that she is….malfunctioning a bit." Kilowag said, slight sympathy in his voice.
Meanwhile, down on Ranx Aya huddled in the corner of a small square cave. The A.I. pressed her back against the side of the wall, her black and blue body turning back to green and white. "What have I done…" she muttered softly, tears streaking her cheeks. Aya curled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. "I attacked Razer….they won't...won't trust me anymore….they will shut me down.." Aya buried her face in her knees and began to sob softly. Suddenly, footsteps sounded and a hand gently gripped Aya's. "Oh dear child, they will not shut you down." said a soft voice. Aya looked up and blinked as she stared at the figure that knelt down before her. The figure was indeed a person, a woman infact, with long white hair. Aya's eyes grew wide as she recognized the woman. It was Illana. However, she did not wear her original clothing, no, she wore a beautiful white dress and her hair was no longer covered by a hood. Instead, her white hair was loose and fell down to her waist.
Aya couldn't seem to say anything, she just stared at Illana, her eyes wide. After a moment, Aya was finally able to speak. "Y-You're Illana, correct? Razer's lost love." she said. Illana smiled softly, and nodded. "Indeed I am and I have come to tell you something." Aya stood up, her eyes still wide as she turned quickly around. "N-No, this is not real...It is only a manifest of my imagination." she said, crossing her arms as her shoulders slumped down. The A.I. felt a warm hand on her shoulder and looked back, tears streaking her cheeks. "I am no manifestation, though I have passed, I still come to you from the afterlife." Illana said reassuringly. Aya turned fully around and looked at Illana, who smiled at her. "I know that you are struggling, but I must tell you that everything will be fine." Illana said, her bright blue eyes filled with hope and sympathy. Aya still seemed unconvinced, but confusion now filled her eyes. "Why do you treat me like a life form or you're friend? I am not a being…..and I took your image and...and I love Razer."
Suprisation flickered in Aya's eyes as Illana placed both of her hands on Aya's cheeks. "Aya, You are not a machine, you are more than that and I do not hate you. Hating you would help no one. I do not believe that hate is a good option and I do not see you as an enemy. No, infact I see you more as a younger sister." Illana purred softly. Aya blinked, then looked down. "But-" The A.I. was interrupted by Illana who raised her hand to stop Aya. "There is no time for that. Aya you must listen to me," Illana started, her happy eyes becoming serious. "There is still a threat to the Galaxy and it is close. It was I who sent you the signal from Ranx and it is I that will tell you that you are needed to help save the Galaxy." Illana rested her hand on Aya's shoulder and then held out her other hand as it glowed brightly. "I have coordinates for the threat that I speak of." Once Illana finished talking, she raised her hand to Aya's forehead and pressed her fingertips to the A.I.'s head. Her hand grew more brightly as she transferred the coordinates from herself to Aya, whose eyes glowed from the transfer.
After the transfer, Aya's eyes dimmed and when she blinked she saw that a smile had returned to Illana's face. The Volkgerion wrapped her arms around Aya and spoke softly. "Good-luck, my little sister." she said as she began to vanish. Soon enough, Aya was once more alone, but she was no longer sad, infact, she was determined. The A.I. lifted her hand and clenched her fist and then quickly began to run out of the cave. Once at the entrance, Aya lunged up into the air, flying into the sky and following the way to the coordinates Illana had given her. Soon enough, she reached the coordinates but saw nothing. "Is it incorrect for me to say that there is nothing here?" Aya asked herself quietly. Almost immediately, the ground underneath her opened up and the A.I. was thrown into darkness as she plummeted into a never ending hole. Quickly, Aya tried to fly back up but something was messing with her boot jets. Aya screeched loudly as she neared the floor, however, once the floor got closer and closer she felt a click and her boot jets instantly turned on. Aya squeezed her eyes shut, thinking that it would be too late until she realized that she was flying right above the ground. The A.I. felt relief in her system, but the relief vanished when she walked past a corner and reached her destination.
In the Interceptor, Hal was still trying to search for Aya through the ship's systems. Kilowag sat lazily in his chair, his arms crossed a he slept with loud snores. Razer had his ring back and was using it to do his best to heal his wound. No one spoke, the only sounds were the typing from Hal, snoring from Kilowag and the once in a while groan from Razer. Static suddenly broke the silence and Aya's voice sounded, causing everyone to stop and for Kilowag to fall out of his seat, instantly awakening. "Attention…." Static covered Aya's voice as she spoke. "I….the….come quickly!" Hal spoke up. "Aya, what did you say? Aya! Come in!" he urged, clenching his fist tightly. The static stopped and only silence answer Hal. The Green Lantern growled softly and grit his teeth. "We have to find out where she is, she could be in trouble!" Hal immediately began typing once more to find out where Aya's signal had come from. Suddenly, Razer's ring glowed brightly, so bright that it filled the entire room with a soft red. After the light dimmed, Razer blinked and stared at his rings. "I-I know where she is." he uttered in slight confusion. Kilowag raised a brow. "How do'ya know it?" he asked curiously. The Volkgerion shook his head. "I..I'm not sure, I just do."
Hal jumped out of the seat he sat in and stood straight with a determined look. "Then lets go find Aya!" he said as he quickly flew out of the room. Razer slowly sat up and slid off of the medical bed, wincing softly in pain as he let his ring slip his suit back onto him. Once Razer had his suit back on he flew out of the room, Kilowag quickly following him. Razer flew in the lead, holding his shoulder from time to time as pain sprung through it, however he did his best to brace the pain. Aya could be in trouble and she need him so he wouldn't sit around a do nothing as she gets hurt, he already made that mistake once before. Hal flew beside Razer, making sure to support him is the Red Lantern needed it. Before they knew it, the Lanterns were hovering straight above the coordinates. Kilowag looked around, then crossed his arms. "Are ya sure y'know where ya goin' kid?" he asked Razer. The Red Lantern scowled at him and flew up to the Bolavaxian. "Do you doubt me? I know that we are here!" He hissed, barring his sharp teeth. Kilowag was about to say something else when Hal yelled out, "There!"
The two other Lanterns looked over to Hal who was now quickly flying towards a large hole in the floor. Razer and Kilowag both immediately followed the Earthling towards the hole that seemed to be getting smaller as they flew towards it. Once inside the hole, the Lanterns stopped, hovering above a long and dark hole. Razer crossed his arms, narrowing his blue eyes. "There's nothing here." he hissed. Almost immediately, the entrance to the hole slammed together and the roof started to plummet down quickly on the group. "Move!" Razer hissed and shot down the way, using his ring to light the path. The Green Lanterns followed after Razer, flying as quickly as they could until it seemed as though they were faster than light. However, the ceiling seemed to be moving as quick as they were and soon enough, the ceiling as right at their feet. "Go! Go! Go!" Hal shouted, fear in the edge of his voice.
Razer sped faster, his eyes wide as he tried to stop himself from hitting the ground. Looking around, Razer saw no exits, which only brought fear even closer to him. Shining his light all around the room, Razer spotted a doorway and motion to the two Green Lanterns who had landed next to him to follow. Each Lantern raced over quickly to the doorway and lunged out of it. The ceiling to the room behind them slammed against the ground and the doorway seemed to vanish quickly after that. The group breathed heavily and stumbled to their feet. Razer looked up, his heart pounding when he saw light around the corner. He numbly walked around the corner and once he saw what was around it, his eyes widened in fear. "No…." Kilowag looked up at him with confusion when he saw Razer stiffen up. "What are ya lookin at Red?" he asked and trotted over to the young Red Lantern. Hal followed Kilowag and when both Green Lanterns saw what Razer was looking at, their fear seemed grow now. The terrifying thing that stood in front of them…..was the Anti-Monitor itself…
