Kallus woke up and looked to where Kiara was pressed up against him in the bunk where they had slept. He could tell that she hadn't slept well over the last week. He wondered if the extended stay on the ship with its force suppression bubble was affecting her. True, they had lived on the ship with its effects of the weapon that had been used against her and Kanan for months prior to being flung through time. But there had been times to leave the ship behind when going to various planets for one reason or another. Sometimes for nothing more than to enjoy some fresh air. They were always finding reasons to land the ship on a moon or planet.
Since coming to this time, and learning of the disturbance that is created when both copies of the same individual were able to be sensed with the use of the force, Kiara has not left the hanger where the Shadow Chaser was docked after being made aware of such effects on her younger self. Kallus, himself didn't feel ill, but he wasn't a force user. So it is possible that had a lot to do with it. As for Ezra, he hadn't left the hanger, either. But he had so much less exposure to the ship than Kiara had, prior to her slow decline in health. So perhaps it was a cumulative effect...
Though he doubted that anyone but himself would notice that she wasn't feeling well. It wasn't like she would say anything. And she did her best to hide the ill effects that she was suffering from. And since she remained within the bubble surrounding the ship in the hanger when she did leave the Shadow Chaser to try to stretch a bit, as well as socialize with Caleb's master or with the new mother who had been asked to remain nearby to be hidden from the Emperor's search through the force, even the Jedi wouldn't sense anything wrong.
Perhaps he should request Skywalker to keep his Padawan within the hanger for the day so that Kiara could get some much needed time away from the ship. He was sure that the young girl would enjoy the opportunity to reconnect with Ezra and share with him what she has learned since starting her studies with her new master here on the Jedi Cruiser.
Many of the other survivors have begun to head out to some of the hidden locations that have been identified as possible safe locations. He knew that his suggestion for the temples on Yavin IV were investigated, and he believed that many of the younglings were taken there for the time being. But unlike before, no one location will be the home for the entire order. So that if one was found, the others would still be safe. Much like he, Ezra, and Kiara had explained that the rebellion from their future timeline functioned.
He also knew that the Jedi had intended to try to reach out to some of their members who had been dispatched prior to the Clone Wars into the Unknown Regions to explore for more options outside of the reach of the Sith Lord. Perhaps that would offer the best place for the new generation of Jedi once they receive their transmissions, eventually.
Kallus looked back to where Kiara was finally sleeping peacefully after a fitful night. He didn't dare to get out of the bunk in fear of waking her. Instead, he spent the next little while just watching her sleep. After all, he didn't have anything of any urgency to attend to. And there was absolutely nothing more important to him than Kiara.
Padmé sat with the unusual young woman who had been the catalyst of her husband's theological revival. She had asked her and the men from her ship to join her for her mid-day meal to give her a change in company. Mainly out of curiosity. She had heard her husband speaking to the blonde man who came from the same time period as the other woman sitting across from her. He seemed to be concerned for her well-being. Since she has been exposed to the effects of the weapon that had been used on her ship to suppress the force in and around it more than any other force user. And hadn't left the ship since she and Anakin returned to it on Dathomir after visiting the temple that had been found on the planet.
To Padmé, the other woman did look a bit more fatigued than she had when they had first met about a week ago. But she didn't know her well enough to gauge anything beyond that. She'd only met with her a few times over the last week. Such as now, having the mid-day meal with the others who have been isolated in the hanger for the safety of not just themselves, but others; while waiting for Anakin to return with the young girl that he's recently taken on as his new Padawan after a morning of lessons. Once he returned, she planned to insist that the other woman wasn't the only one who needed to stretch her legs a bit.
She was suffering from a bit of cabin fever from being stuck in the hanger for so long with no end in sight. She wasn't one to hide away while others tried to keep her from danger. And while she was only a week out from giving birth, she already felt as though she was recovered from it and was ready to take on the galaxy herself. So telling Anakin that she planned to take their children to the infirmary to ensure that they were growing as expected shouldn't be hard. And who knows, perhaps she should request that the other woman should help her instead of one of her handmaidens or Ahsoka. Then she could convince her to have the medical droid to take a look at her to make sure that she was well.
"You want to do what?" Anakin couldn't believe what he was hearing. "If you leave the hanger Palpatine may be able to sense you. He could kill you!"
"Ani, after a week, with all that he has on his plate, I seriously doubt that he's just sitting around in meditation, waiting for the chance to sense me."
"I'm not willing to take that chance," Anakin shook his head as he spoke.
He knew that his wife was stubborn. She had to be for her job (and to be married to him, he conceded silently) but that didn't mean that he was going to just stand back and let her take an unnecessary risk. The medical droid could just as easily run any tests on the children here. There was no need to risk their, nor her, safety in this way. And even if the children did need to go to the infirmary for a checkup, he would take them. Not his wife. Not while he knew Palpatine was still fuming at his failure to eliminate the Jedi as well as kill Padmé during childbirth.
Now to find a way to convince his wife that she needed to stay put where she was until they could find a way to stop Palpatine, once and for all.
Kiara strolled through the corridors of a Jedi Cruiser for the first time since she had left the Point of Light when she and Alexander left Master Billaba's ship upon their first meeting with the Jedi Counsel. It felt a bit strange to not be in the hanger after being there for the last week. She was told that the Counsel had decided that if they could return the three of them to their own timeline sooner than later, then it would be best for everyone. So after much discussion, the ship was traveling through hyperspace toward Lothal now that the decision has been made.
Hopefully, if all went as planned, in just a few more days, she, Alexander, and Ezra will be returning to their timeline and their own future that they had left behind. The present couldn't really move forward until the three of them were gone. And to be honest, she missed Kanan and the others. While there had been times where she had gone much longer without any contact with those from the Ghost, at least she could contact them through subspace if she wanted. Here, it was different.
"What a surprise," Kiara heard behind her as she turned to see Master Billaba walking towards her. "I wasn't aware that you have been able to leave the hanger, safely."
"Apparently, it's become a concern for others that perhaps I've begun to experience some effects of long-term exposure to the force suppression bubble around my ship. So, Master Skywalker has agreed to ask his padawan to remain in the hanger after the mid-day meal. I even believe that Ezra planned to spend some time with her to ask her how she's adapting to her new routine within the Order."
Depa tilted her head slightly. "And have you?" She asked before going further when she saw the confusion on the other woman's face. "Have you been experiencing any effects from the weapon used on your ship?"
Kiara sighed as she thought about her response. "I don't think so. Maybe. It's hard to really know. I've had a few headaches, and I'm a bit tired. But not past that, really. And it hasn't really been that bad."
Depa gave a compassionate smile. "Bad enough for your male companion to have noticed, however." The Jedi used her senses to see the sister of her padawan through the eyes of the force before she motioned for her to continue to walk with her. "Perhaps we should put any concerns to rest by making our way to the infirmary. A few scans should put everyone's mind at ease."
"The infirmary is not what I had in mind for a change of scenery," Kiara complained. "Though I wouldn't be opposed to some more combat training like we did back at the Jedi Temple."
"First, let's make sure that there isn't anything of concern by running those scans. Then we shall see to your training."
Kiara rolled her eyes but she knew that at least this would pacify Alex once she told him that she was fine and had seen a medical droid to prove it.
Kallus fell into a roll as he ducked Rex's attack, barely. The clone had agreed to help him train after the mid-day meal. Working along with the clone helped to break up the monotony of remaining in the hanger. He had spent the morning using a makeshift targeting area to maintain his skills with his blaster; competing with Ezra since he, too, could use something to keep busy with. But he was aware that it may not be the wisest thing to do once the younger version of Kiara returned for her time in the hanger to allow the woman that he was concerned for to have some needed time away from the ship and its force suppression bubble. So once the young girl was back in the hanger, they put their blasters away and Kallus had worked on his physical skills that he'd need in a hand-to-hand fight. Meanwhile Ezra joined the young girl to discuss her latest training.
As Kallus got back onto his feet, he caught sight of the Jedi Master reluctantly leaving the hanger with his wife and their young twins. And he wasn't the only one. He heard Rex snicker as he stood back to wait for Kallus to square back off with him.
"Is something amusing?"
"You could say that. There is only one person in the galaxy who consistently wins in a battle of wills against the general. And that would be the senator," Rex chuckled.
Kallus smiled in the direction of the Jedi Master before he realized that Rex was using the opportunity to catch him by surprise. He rubbed his shoulder where the clone had gotten a good connection with during his lapse of concentration before he shook his head and refocused. But he also figured it would be a good chance to learn more about the other man's interactions with the Jedi. During the weeks that he'd spent with the two other men, he'd seen that while there was a clear military hierarchy, it was equally clear that the two men held one another in high regard as friends. And when there were no others from the Order or other clones around, they would often tease one another as if they had been friends for many more years than the war itself had been going on.
"So shall I take it that Master Skywalker frequently loses such battles of will against his wife? I would think that he would have learned a way to hold his ground a bit more, after all of his warring with so many opponents over the years."
Rex stood ready to continue his mock-battle against Kallus as he responded. "Going to battle against an enemy is very different than against a woman when one is in love." Rex then added just before throwing a punch, to take advantage of his words setting in with the other man, "I would think that you would have learned that by now with your own woman. In the short amount I've time I've known you, the only time I ever see you back down is with Kiara."
Kallus now rubbed his jaw where Rex's fist had connected. He saw the grin on the clone's face and knew that he'd responded exactly as expected at the mention of Kiara and his somewhat frequent acquiesce to the woman. If he was to hold his own against the clone during their sparring session, he was going to have to concentrate and not let the other man in his head. Even if he was worried about Kiara's recent bouts of ailments. Hopefully, with some time away from the ship a little each day between now and when they will arrive on Lothal, she will begin to feel a bit better. And of course, once they return to their own time, they will be able to request crew quarters and there will be plenty of time for Kiara to recover from the long-term effects of the weapon used on the Shadow Chaser.
However, Kallus also knew that once the three of them returned to their timeline and future, that they would be returning to a time of war. Which meant that he needed to be fully prepared; both mentally and physically. As such, he was determined to focus on the sparring match with the clone trooper in his prime. Perhaps the best match he could remember being a part of in his life. Before, during, and after he joined and subsequently left the Empire.
