High above Queens, a desperate Peter continued chasing the fleeing Herman by web-zipping from rooftop to rooftop. So many things went through the young man's mind as he pursued the padded criminal. First and foremost was anger, which he directed toward himself, for since he was only Spider-Man for six months, he should've known better than to put the civilians near the Words of Wisdom bookstore in harm's way. However, Peter's anger did not last long, for what he saw just up ahead was enough to make his blood run cold.
Just a short distance away, Peter saw the F.E.A.S.T building, where his aunt was working, and Herman was heading straight there, whether he realized it or not. And the thought of this careless crook using his gauntlets to injure or killed everyone in that building, especially the woman who raised him like a son, truly frightened Peter to his core and made him all the more determined to stop Herman here and now. And so, after shooting two web lines and zipping a water tower, Peter flipped forward, placed his feet on top of the tower, and used it as a boost to leap towards Herman. Once the young man got close enough, he opened his arms, grabbed Herman's waist from behind, and tackled him down to a rooftop below, where they both landed hard and rolled on the roof floor and left disoriented due to the strength of the impact.
While on top of the winded and disoriented Herman, the dazed Peter slowly sat up and shook the cobwebs out of his head. "Okay, not one of my best landings," he thought as he held his head in pain, and as his vision cleared, he caught a glimpse of the F.E.A.S.T. building a felt a small ounce of relief. "But hey, at least I stopped this guy from reaching Aunt May. Anyway, need to get to work and make him more 'manageable' for the cops." With a clear head, Peter stood on his feet and continued looking down at the downed Herman. He then glanced down at the padded man that had caused so much trouble for not just Peter but everyone in the district. At one point, Peter got an up-close view of one of Herman's gauntlets, including his thumb trigger, and the inventor in him couldn't help but admire their simple but effective design. However, once he heard Herman's pain-filled groan, Peter immediately regained his focus and saw the bags of money on Herman's back. At that moment, Peter grabbed and pulled one of the bags off the still semi-conscious Herman's back, then pulled it off and tossed it to the left side of the roof, with the plan being to get the money away from Herman's body and give him enough room to web the criminal to the roof floor and prevent him from getting up and running off again.
It wasn't until Herman felt the second bag being pulled off of him that he regained his senses, and as he looked over his shoulder, confused, he soon grew into a rage when he saw Peter holding up a bag filled with *his* money and tossing over to the other bag on the side of the roof. "NOOO!" Herman cried out as he tried to sit back up but was pinned down when Peter moved to Herman's left side and placed his right knee on his back.
"Sorry, Shock," said Peter as he moved his hands on Herman's shoulders. "But that money's going back to the bank, just like how YOU are going back to prison! You'll have a nice, cozy cell waiting for you, along with a nice orange jumpsuit. Which, by the way, will look dignified compared to what you're wearing now."
From Peter's constant insults to him and trying to take away the money he felt he long deserved, Herman was now fully consumed with fury. As he felt Peter's hand grab and pin down his left gauntlet, the enraged Herman made his move to free himself by pointing his right fist down on the roof floor. Seconds later, he pressed the trigger in his right gauntlet and, once it was just the right level, fired a small blast that provided an extra boost to help him drive his right elbow into the side of Peter's masked face, knocking him senseless enough to make him lift his knee off his back. All of which allowed Herman enough room to turn his body to face the dazed young man trying to ruin his plans, and with his left hand free, he pressed the trigger in that gauntlet and delivered a fully charged hook, nailing Peter in his left eyepiece, and sending him flying a couple of feet.
Now free, a still seething Herman stood up on his feet and walked towards the fallen Peter with a cracked eyepiece and throbbing headache, choosing to finish him off before he grabbed the bags of money and continued fleeing. Once he approached the downed and disoriented hero, the infuriated Herman raised his right hand. Now consumed with the desire to 'squash this bug,' Herman charged his right gauntlet and drove his fist downward, intended to crush Peter's mask skull and spill his brains all over the roof floor.
Luckily, Peter was brought out of his dazed state via the tingling of his Spider-Sense, which prompted him to roll forward and caused Herman to plow his gauntlet through the roof floor instead. After popping back up on his feet, Peter cautiously walked towards Herman, who appeared to be having trouble getting the gauntlet out, mainly because he wanted to close the distance between the two of them and prevent him from firing any more blasts. Though Peter knew it was a risky move, he knew that they were around taller buildings with people inside, and he didn't want to be on the receiving end of Herman's blasts, intentional or not.
Herman briefly looked up at Peter as he continued his struggle to pull his right arm free, and the sight of this 'worthless bug' only made his anger grow stronger. "I…will not…lose a score…this big…TO SOME CLOWN IN BUTT UGLY BLUE TIGHTS!" With that roar, Herman again pressed the trigger button in his right gauntlet, and as soon as it was significantly charged, he pulled his gauntlet out of the roof floor while, at the same time, throwing his arm upward in a rising backhand fashion, intending to hit Peter's chin with the back of his charged gauntlet and take his head clean off.
An attack that Peter saw coming and avoided by leaning back. Once he stood upright, Peter returned to his strategy of quips to keep the now unstable robber focused on him. "Really, pal?! You're going to diss my threads while dressed up like that?!"
This remark caused an incensed Herman to let out a loud growl as he charged his gauntlets and attacked Peter again, this time by throwing a fully charged left hook.
As before, Peter kept his head on his shoulders by ducking sideways to the left to successfully dodge the punch, then sidestepped to the left to avoid an equally charged right uppercut, then briefly ducked to dodge an incoming left cross. "And besides, at least I'm wearing an ACTUAL costume!" Peter quipped as he took a step back to avoid another right hook. "Yours looks like something pieced together from an old lady's couch!"
For Herman, that last joke proved to be the final straw, and he immediately threw another charged left hook, only for Peter to duck again and allow him to run past him. After barely managing to stop himself from tumbling over, Herman decided that enough was enough and thus spun around to face Peter's back. He then charged his gauntlets at the highest capacity and pointed them at the red spider symbol on the young man's back, intending to blow the young man's entire upper body and end this scuffle once and for all.
However, this action once again triggered the tingling of Peter's Spider-Sense, which in turn prompted him to jump and perform a front flip, with the bottom of his feet hitting Herman's gauntlets and forcing the criminal to fire his blast up into the air. Peter heard the lingering echo sound from the blast as he landed in a crouching position and, thinking that the upper half of his body would've been blown to pieces if not for his Spider-Sense alerting him, let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Spider-Sense!"
Herman barely managed to stop himself from falling on his back after Peter's attack, and when he heard Peter's remark, his anger was briefly replaced with confusion. "Spider-what?"
The crouching Peter heard his attacker's baffled question and deduced that he must've spoken out loud, much to his irritation. But as he looked over his right shoulder, he could also see that the confused Herman just stood there and stopped attacking, thus giving Peter the opening he needed to take him down and end this. Not wanting to waste such an opportunity, Peter turned while kneeling, pointed both his hands forward, and with careful aim, shot two small balls of web, each the size of a ping pong ball, out of his wrists.
The targets for the two web balls were soon revealed to be both of Herman's thumbs, which not only hit their mark but also attached them to the back of his gauntlets. Naturally, this was enough to startle Herman, and much to the criminal's horror, he realized he couldn't move his thumbs downward no matter how much he tried. This put him in an awkward position and also meant that he couldn't press the triggers and thus use his gauntlets to fight back.
And the next inconvenience for Herman came in the form of Peter's voice, which was in a light-hearted and mocking tone. "Aww, that's so nice of you! Giving me a 'thumbs up to show that I did a good job in punching you in the face!"
This quip confused Herman even more, and as he looked up, the thing he saw was Peter coming up and giving him a fierce right hook of his own and nailing him in the jaw. It was a blow that his padded mask didn't do much to protect against and one that was hard enough to send him down to the roof floor and into unconsciousness.
Peter used only a quarter of his spider strength to throw that punch, mainly for Herman's sake, as he didn't want to take the man's head off. Still, he was just finally glad that the crook was finally down for the count, and the chaos he created for the entire district was brought to an end. "Finally, it's over," Peter thought as he looked up, let out an exhausted, but relieved sigh, then looked down and shifted his focus back to the unconscious Herman at his feet. "And now to leave a nice little gift for the boys in blue!"
Back in the streets below, three police cars were racing towards the building where, according to eyewitnesses, Spider-Man was fighting 'some quilt guy' on the roof. The cars were just a few feet away from the said building until they all came to a screeching halt when they came across a sight so unusual it left the cops with their jaws wide open.
Underneath a streetlamp were what appeared to be web cocoons hanging by lines like marlins caught from the ocean and being hung on display. The cocoon on the far left contained the two bags filled with stolen money, but the webbing around was thinner so they could be seen. The cocoon on the far right held Herman's gauntlets, also wrapped in thinner webbing and appeared to have pieces of padding and quilted material on the ends, indicating that they were ripped off the man's sleeves. And inside the giant cocoon in the middle was Herman, whose entire body, except for his head, was consumed in pure white webbing to prevent any movement.
And sitting perched on top of a billboard set up on the roof of the building right across from where the fight took place was Peter, who looked down at the cops who exited their vehicles, all astounded by what they were seeing. The young man could still feel the effects of Herman's gauntlet-enhanced punch, from feeling his eye beginning to swell behind his broken eyepiece to a headache so immense, it felt like an entire stampede of rhinos had trampled over it. Nevertheless, Peter was still glad that he managed to put an end to this would-be robber's rampage. "He's all yours, boys," Peter silently told the cops below and looked down on them with an almost apologetic expression behind his mask. "Of course, I do feel kind of bad that I used so much webbing on Shock-boy there that it'll make things harder for you to put him in jail. But given all the damage that he was able to dish out, it's probably for your safety, if anything." Before moving on, Peter had one thing he needed to check on. Something which, thankfully, he could use his still undamaged right eyepiece to use. "And while I couldn't record anything here, I'm sure I got some good shots at the bank."
Peter soon pressed a button in his right eyepiece to activate a feature that would show him a live video feed from his camera. However, he would quickly get an unexpected and unpleasant surprise, for instead of the bank, he saw his workbench in the basement of his home. Thus indicating that the camera was still in the Parker Household instead of a safe and secure place near the bank so he could record his fight with Herman. "THE BASEMENT?!" Peter thought in a mixture of distress and disbelief, then closed his eyes in annoyance when he came to this realization. "Must've been in such a hurry to get to the bank that I forgot to pack and bring it with me. Thus, screwing myself out of a good paycheck from J.J.!" As he opened his eyes, Peter glanced at the F.E.A.S.T. building again, which made him inhale through his nose and let out an exasperated sigh through his mouth. "Oh, chin up, Parker. What matters is that you stopped some plaid-wearing psycho from making off with a ton of money and killing innocent people. One of them being your aunt! Who still thinks you're still at the house you promised to clean up for her, so it's time to skedaddle!"
With his job now done, Peter shot two web lines, zipped out of the area, and proceeded back to his house.
