chapter 2
i own nothing
Itachi was bowing in front of the aged fire lord Azulon, he was dressed in fire nation armor with the Uchiha family crest on his back. And he had a sword strapped to his back
(AN: basically his anbu sword, bit with a uchiha themed hilt)
He had been summoned before the fire lord, apparently he had a special task to complete
"Young Itachi Uchiha, you are the most gifted assassin and fire bender I have ever seen…. So I have a task for you, one of my subjects is causing a disruption amongst our people, he is spreading doubts about the war…..find him eliminate him, leave no witnesses"
Itachi nodded "yes fire lord"
Itachi got up and left. This would be his first assignment we're he would have to kill a fire nation citizen, and he was having doubts. He was currently 11, yet he was already a seasoned killer. The moment he returned from learning the way of the sword a year ago Fugaku had been working him to the bone. He wanted the Uchiha to regain their former glory, so for the last year itachi had been sent throughout the earth Kingdom on special missions, whether it was sabotage, espionage, assassinations. He would do it, it was his duty.
As Itachi was Sharpening his sword in his quarters he thought about the state of the world. The war took many lives, both the fire nation and their supposed "enemies". And Itachi didn't like it one bit, when he went to the site of the siege of ba sing se he was greeted by the horrors of war. Surrounding the camp were bodies of fire nation soldiers and earth Kingdom ones. Fugaku even had Itachi execute one of the prisoners as a lesson. Ever since then Itachi had changed. His once reserved emotions became stone cold, no one could read him. Except Ty Lee.
Ty Lee was the little sliver of light in Itachi's life, Itachi though she was so naive and innocent, yet he loved that about her. Nobody knew about his secret missions; Zuko, Mai and Ty Lee were none the wiser. Though Itachi suspected that Azula knew something was up. Though she never brought it up.
Itachi crouched on a pole, he wore a white fox mask with 2 eye holes. Where his 3 tomoe red sharingan glowed in the night. He suddenly disappeared in a clock of crows, the flock flew in the night till they reached an open window, where they all gathered together to form itachi in his assassin uniform.
Itachi scanned his surroundings with his sharingan, then slowly walked through the house. It was then that he found his target. A young man sleeping on a couch. Itachi steeled himself, unsheathed his sword and made the kill.
He was about to crow shushin away when he heard a groggy voice
"Who-who are you?"
Itachi turned around and saw a little girl, and immediately froze. She was a witness, but she was just a girl. He couldn't. It was his duty to kill this girl, all his life he was trained to follow his nation to make the Uchiha proud. Yet was this what that entailed?
"Where's my daddy?" The little girl asked
Itachi remained still, he wished this girl hadn't seen what he'd just done. Then he wouldn't be in this situation, Itachi thought about putting her to sleep with a genjutsu and hoping she'd wake up thinking it was a dream. But what if that didn't work.
Itachi made eye contact, it was at that moment Itachi discovered something new. Genjutsu is about tricking the brain, yet when he made contact with her brain. He didn't just trick it, he altered it, she completely forgot the encounter. She then fell over unconscious.
Itachi then picked her up and jumped out the window, dropping her off at the orphanage.
Itachi was proud of his accomplishment in discovering a new Uchiha technique, but beyond that he felt relief. Itachi was thankful to the spirits that he didn't have to kill that girl.
But it brought him back to his thoughts prior, what exactly did being a loyal and dutiful Uchiha entail? Itachi never liked the war, but he thought that by doing his missions the fire nation could finally win and it would be over. But if this is what the fire nation does, then did he want them to win? Did he want a nation that killed its own people ruling the world?
Itachi continued pondering as he made his way back to the palace, where he reported his mission completed.
It was morning and Itachi got up early as usual. He made breakfast and then went to visit Zuko to train, though Zuko wasn't as skilled in fire bending as azula, he was in the art of the sword.
He eventually found Zuko, but he was surprised by what he saw. Zuko was walking angrily, soaking wet
"Zuko? I'm almost afraid to ask but-"
Zuko just walked past him but said "then don't, but know this, GIRLS ARE CRAZY!"
Itachi was confused and then walked to the garden. Where he saw a flustered and also soaking wet Mai, it was then he made the connection
"Azula. Have you been messing with your brother again?"
Azula smiled proudly "of course! It's fun and it's so easy to do. He's such a dum-dum"
Itachi shook his head "you should be nicer to zuko, he's your brother. Oftentimes I wish I had a brother to connect with. You do, cherish that bond"
Azula just scoffed and walked away. But Ty Lee flipped to itachi and smiled
"Hey tachi', how are you doing?"
"I'm doing well thank you" Itachi smiled
No matter what it was, Ty Lee made him smile, maybe it was the way she presented herself, or her personality. Either way it worked.
Ursa then walked into the garden and looked at Itachi "Itachi you have a letter from Shisui, and a gift"
Itachi was surprised but smiled. He then accepted the letter. He went to his room to read it privately…. Shisui was doing well according to the letter, he said that they recently broke through the outer wall and that general Iroh was hopeful that they would take the city and return home. His gift turned out to be a tri pronged kunai with the kanji for peace on it. Itachi smiled at that
(AN: no he won't get flying raijin, it's just a really cool kunai/knife design)
Itachi was hopeful that iroh and Shisui would return home soon, things were looking up. But the good news didn't stop Itachi's thoughts on whether the fire nation were what's best for the world
now you may be wondering why would the fire nation have a child do assassination mission, well first of Fugaku requested/insisted it, he is desperate to restore the uchiha. and as mention in the previous chapter, at the beginning of the war the fire nation were just popping out uchihas left and right, treating them like wepaons. but eventually they began to die out, but azula knows from his father just how powerful the uchiha were, so he knows that the uchiha aren't ordianry people. hence he's ok with it.
plus i'm thinking of making this a bit more serious, have the war be more realistic and deadly. kinda take the tone of say the 3rd shinobi war at put that into the 100 year war. it isn't a game where our hero's can have fun and go on mini vacations along the way
what do you think?
