AN:the last chapter of the interduntion arc
Pokemon is not mine
The following days went by smoothly, except that Aliquis approached Cecilia and asked her to teach him how to battle against Nemona. She didn't directly teach him but advised him to research the moves his Pokemon could learn and the typing of Nemona's own to develop a good strategy. Shortly after, an announcement was made over the PA system, indicating that the independent study assignment had started.
"Attention all students, please report to the schoolyard." The director's voice could be heard: "The independent study assignment is upon us. I will give further details once everyone is assembled."
"Everything's about to start," Cecilia said while making breakfast. Nemona burst into the room as she was putting on her shoes.
"It's TIME," the younger girl yelled happily. Cecilia didn't bother to stop her excitement. "I've been waiting for this. Quick, to the schoolyard!" She then left as quickly as she had come.
"She must be ADHD," Cecilia grumbled, following soon after.
The entire school was gathered in front of a platform where Clavell stood. The teachers were standing around him. "Excellent, everyone is here," Clavell said as he looked around. "I will now explain the independent study assignment."
The students cheered loudly, but Cecilia, Arven, and Penny remained silent.
"The theme is a treasure hunt," Clavell announced to cheers. "I asked each of you to scour the region, if not the world, to find a treasure to call your own."
' I wonder how many of us will leave the region .' Cecilia wondered.
"You have all learned within these walls," Clavell gestured around him. "Now it's time to broaden your horizons to understand the world around you. Explore the abundant nature and rich culture of Paldea to discover things about Pokemon that you may have never known before. You may also meet people who share things in common with you."
' Well, people do say "You learn new things every day ."'
"Where do you plan to go? Whom do you intend to meet, and what accomplishments are you seeking?" Clavell asked them all. "And, of course, your partner Pokemon will accompany you. Explore together, learn new things, share your thoughts and feelings, and discover what you truly treasure."
As Cecilia looked around, many students nodded, and she wondered how everyone would change upon their return.
"I look forward to seeing what fine trainers you all will become after returning from your studies," Clavell said as he pointed to the sky, "Let the treasure hunt begin." The cheering was deafening as the students started to exit the yard to begin their hunts.
Cecilia breathed in deeply as her classmates rushed past her toward their destinations.
"Take care, everyone, and remember the great crater is dangerous," Clavell yelled, having followed the students to the school's front gate. "Enerting is a violation of the school rules."
' Dam, there goes half of my plan,' Cecilia grimaced. ' Guess I have to wait until school is done for the semester. '
"Let's go, Cecilia. What do you waiting for an invitation?" Nemona called out as she ran by.
Cecilia followed steadily and was surprised to find Nemona at the top of the stairs.
"The treasure hunt has finally started. Can you believe it?" Nemona said.
"It feels like any other day," Cecilia said, then changed the subject. "Sometimes, when people hear the word treasure, they immediately think of something shiny in a chest. But that's not what we're really looking for, right?"
"No, but that is a good question," Nemona agreed, then started to walk down the stairs. "Walking and talking might help get our thoughts together."
"How long has the school been doing this?" Cecilia asked as she followed. She was curious about that and wondered if it was ever taught in history.
"It's been a tradition at Huerta Academy for many years, dating back at least two centuries and possibly even older," Nemona explained. "I've never really paid attention to anything outside of battle-related information, but supposedly, the practice of Pokemon training as we know it today originated in the region of Hisui." she sheepishly added.
' I saw that coming,' Cecilia raised her eyebrow. ' Five bucks says she doesn't know that Hisui is now called Sinnoh. '
"Back to the topic. We don't necessarily look for real hidden treasure, though that is part of the fun." Nemona switches back to their main discussion. Cecilia tried not to be surprised as the book Arven had was called that. "It's just us going around Paldea on an adventure, like battling gyms and helping others hunt for their treasure. Stuff the classroom can't teach us."
Nemona's explanations took Cecilia aback, as they were similar to what she had planned. The two had just arrived at the plaza at the bottom of the stairs, located in the center of Mesagoza. Cecilia speculated, "I'm guessing there are also numerous opportunities to engage in battles?" She was confident that this was what Nemona was most excited about.
"Yup, like right now," Nemona suggested, then noticed Cecilia's stern glare and crossed arms." Yeah, we can battle later."
"Plus, I want to test different types of Pokemon for the best team. I can make that work well with both Agravain and Olwin," Cecilia explained. "That's one thing I know for sure."
"You might already know this, but the map app can help you navigate around. You can pick a place like a center or a gym, and it will give direction to your chosen place," Nemona suggested.
"Should have known you'd give your friends an advantage," A voice called it was Arven, having said that as he came down the stairs. "Not much of a student council president, aren't you?"
"I was giving her advice, Arven. Cecilia can go where she wants," Nemona snarled.
"Cecilia may be hard at work helping me search for the titian Pokemon," Arven explained, glaring at Nemona. "There will be no time to get champion- rank."
"Hey," Cecilia said, trying to get the two's attention.
"We'll go around looking for their lairs and raiding them for herba Mystica." Arven finished smugly.
"En Serio? Don't fill her head with stories," Nemona said. "Becoming a champion is more realistic than that."
Arven countered, putting his hand on his hip. "It sounds like too much work, plus it's up to Cecilia to choose. All I did was invite her to think about something." Nemona growled in response. The argument was interrupted by the sound of Cecilia's phone ringing. "Hm? Cecilia, your phone is ringing."
"Hey Cecilia, it's Cassiopeia," said the leader of Operation Starfall, "If you've agreed to help, I can go over the operation details now."
"I have. How does the team operate?" Cecilia asked as she walked away to make the call somewhat more private. She needed to know so she could counter. Cecilia searched the school record to see who was on the Team but could only find what was already known.
"There are five squads spread across the region," Cassiopeia informed. "You just need to visit each base and defeat its boss."
"Sounds doable, almost like a gym." Cecilia said, ' Five leaders sound so much like Oncle's but thankfully different .'
"The grunts will try to stop you," Cassiopeia warns. "Each of the base bosses has a specific type of Pokemon. The names of the bases are Segin, Schedar, Navi, Ruchbah, and Caph."
"I'll keep that in mind, plus those are interesting names," Cecilia said as she walked back to Arven and Nemona, planning to look into the names later.
"After successfully shutting down the bases, you will be rewarded," the operation leader said as the others, especially Nemona, objected.
"Wait a second; firstly, those Team Star members are punks and hazards; therefore, they're not Cecilia's problem," Nemona yelled. "And who are you?" she said, pointing at the phone.
"Plus, she has more important things like finding ingredients with me. "Arven added.
"Wasn't it up to Cecilia to decide what she does?" Cassiopeia said, sounding smug. "Nemona Máchi and Arven Sada-Turo."
"Will you three shut it," Cecilia yelled loudly, causing the two next to her to jump, and she thought she heard a distended yelp. "I thought it over for the last few days and have decided to help all of you."
"I will add the locations of the bases and set the map so you can filter it and look at the normal or special location map," Cassiopeia said quietly.
"Thanks for that. It will be helpful for the future." Cecilia said. She would now be doing four things: Titan hunting, the gym challenge, and base raiding, along with helping Koraidon regain her power. "Arven, Nemona, could you add the locations for the gyms and Titans."
"Sure," Nemona said while Arven nodded. "But why are you?"
"For personal reasons," Cecilia said, looking over the map. "But to clarify, I'm doing it at my own pace, which is, from what I understand, the point of the treasure hunt."
"You're not wrong," Arven muttered. The other two agreed with him.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how you do. Bye." Casspioeia said as they hung up.
"What kind of people do you talk to?" Arven asked after a minute of silence.
"I know making friends is a part of school life," Nemona said, sounding concerned. "But try not to get dragged into anything outrageous."
"We aren't friends, just allies. And I'm twenty," Cecilia said, indifferent to anyone knowing." plus, I can make my own decisions on things."
"Say what?" Arven exclaimed. "I thought you were around seventeen."
"Thanks for thinking that," Cecilia smiled, causing Arven to blush.
Nemona snickered before speaking. "We have an adventure to start - battling trainers to get stronger and find my treasure." she sounded reassured.
Arven shot Cecilia a look that clearly said, "I doubt that."
"I'm going to head to a gym and see about getting some new Pokemon," Nemona told herself before turning to Cecilia. "This is what a gym building looks like." the building was about five stories tall and white with a blue trim.
"Notesable from a distance," Cecilia said.
"A treasure of my own," Arven muttered. "That would be like Ma-Er finding the Herba Mystica," he corrected, hoping no one heard him.
Cecilia wondered if Ma was important to Arven, maybe his mother. She also noticed that Arven used Sada and Turo while his father only used Turo. Cecilia decided to ask Arven about this in the future when they became more comfortable with each other. Cecilia wondered if Ms. Sada was the person who needed the herbs.
"I'll make the best sandwiches you've ever had," Arven said, grinning. However, his smile became a scowl when Koraidon unexpectedly came out of her ball. "What are you doing out?" he snarled.
Oh my, did she come out because you mentioned "sandwich"? Nemona was laughing when she realized that.
"Seems like it. I'll make you one later," Cecilia said as she walked over to Koraidon and petted the dragon.
"Well, you're not getting one from me," Arven grumbled.
However, Koraidon ignored Arven and nudged Cecilia as if she wanted something.
"Koraidon seems to want to be ridden," Nemona observed. "It's a common behavior among Cyclizar."
"Koraidon and Cyclizar might be related, but it's uncertain exactly how," Cecilia said as she climbed onto Koraidon's back. Immediately, Koraidon formed a circle with her tail and inflated her throat until it almost touched the ground. Cecilia had to hold onto Koraidon's shoulder spikes to maintain her balance.
"Whoa, she transformed defiantly related to Cyclizar then." Nemona said with a grin." Now, with Koraidon like that, Paldea is your Cloyster."
"Hmph, maybe," Arven shook his head, clearly not believing the two Pokemon could be related. "Cecilia, the close titan is beyond the eastern gate." he even walked towards the gate.
"Better to head west. No one gets lost like in the east," Nemona scoft. "The closest gym in terms of location is the one in Cortondo."
Cecilia dismounted Koraidon and returned her to her Pokeball. "Thank you for the insight. I'll consider which location to head to first."
"Tch, Man, no wonder I don't get along with you," Arven said, looking at Nemona. "See in the east, little buddy." With that, he left.
' I'm not little. I'm older than you,' Cecilia scowled, planning on making sure Arven changed his nickname for her.
Nemona waved goodbye and headed towards the western gate, leaving Cecilia alone. "See you at the gym there," she shouted before disappearing from sight.
The day was peaceful outside the chaotic sounds of Mesagoza. Cecilia breathed in the fresh air and gazed at the towering crater walls looming over the city. "I will do whatever it takes to uncover the truth about what's happening in Paldea," she vowed. Cecilia flipped a coin she had discovered underneath the bridge near Los Platos to decide which direction to head. "Heads for the east, tails for the west," she said.
