One of my reviewers asked if the story wasn't saucier than a K+ rating. I had been on the fence about the rating. Therefore, I changed it to a M rating.
Chapter Nine
Scarlett getting on top had been a new position to Rhett. He had done nothing with the whores, but straight sex. Of course, he hadn't known anything but the missionary position as he now knew it was called.
A couple of months ago, Hugh had given Rhett a book as a wedding present. It was titled, 'A Guide to Sex.' When Scarlett had not been around, he would leaf through the book. He hid it under his mattress. There were drawings of all different types of sexual positions. Sometimes from just looking at the pictures, he would get aroused. They were very explicit drawings.
Rhett knew he could take care of the issue himself. He had learned that at age fourteen. Sort of accidentally. He had been in his bed after retiring for the night. He had been touching himself. He found that by putting his hand around himself, it was quite pleasurable. Then he found that the faster he moved his hand up and down his shaft the more pleasurable it felt. Suddenly, he felt a tension and then he felt an incredibly amazing feeling. There was stuff coming out of his penis. He knew he had achieved his first satisfaction. He had done it every night until his member had been almost too tender to touch.
Nonetheless, Rhett would always go in search of Scarlett. It was always better when he was inside her. The first couple of times he had found her he had said, "I want to talk to you in our room."
Scarlett would get a puzzled, almost worried look on her face. Now when Rhett said it, she just smiled her smug smile. He could handle the smug smile because she was always so enthusiastic when she got to their bedroom.
Christmas had been awful as far as Scarlett was concerned. The only good part was Rhett went shopping with her and he paid for all her gifts with his father's money. She bought presents for all her relatives at Tara even Suellen. Scarlett bought Suellen a rabbit fur muff full well knowing that her parents would not let Suellen use it until she was sixteen, if ever. It would torture Suellen knowing what she had so desperately wanted she had but couldn't use it because she was not yet old enough to be invited to social events where wearing a rabbit fur muff would be appropriate. Of course, her parents might not let Suellen even keep it in her room. To Rhett it had been a sweet present for Scarlett's sister. Scarlett never told him any different. Scarlett knew Rhett didn't think of her as a sweet and kind young lady, but she didn't want him to know how truly vindictive she was.
Scarlett bought Gerald a bottle of Irish whiskey, Ellen some pretty fabric, Careen a diary and Suellen the muff. They went to the townhouse and Scarlett wrapped the presents. Rhett then took them to Charles, one of the footmen, and told him to crate the presents up. After the presents were crated up, Rhett took them to the post office and had them shipped to Tara.
The reason Christmas was awful was because she was missing her family and her traditions. Every suggestion she made got shot down. All Elizabeth would say was, "That is not the way we do it."
Finally, Rhett said, "Why can't we include some of Scarlett's traditions? Is our life so rigid that we can't make any changes. She is not asking for anything major. She just wants pecan pie, cranberry sauce, rolls, and yams served. I like all those things and I know you and Father do too."
"No, Rhett, we always have goose, stuffing, mashed turnips, beets, and corn bread."
"I know what we always have. I have been eating that meal for the last twenty-three years. Scarlett is not asking you to take anything off the table just add some more to it. Are we so poor we can't have an abundance of food?"
Finally, Percy said, "No, we are not that poor. Elizabeth, serve yams, rolls, cranberry sauce, and pecan pie. Rhett is right we can include those food items in our Christmas dinner."
"We can't include the cranberry sauce, because they don't grow here."
Percy hid a smile. He would let Elizabeth have a small victory. Christmas dinner was the same meal that the Kennesaws had served all Elizabeth's life. A little change was good.
That night Scarlett took Rhett into her mouth again without him even asking. After he satisfied her that was. Twice. She knew not to do it before then because their love making session would be over too soon if she did.
Later as the couple was drifting off to sleep Rhett said, "Thank you."
"No, thank you for convincing your parents to include some of my favorite foods for Christmas dinner."
"I suppose you would like me to do that again."
With a smile in Scarlett's voice, she said, "Would you like me to do it again?"
"I most certainly would."
"You do something for me, and I will do something for you."
Scarlett hung mistletoe over their bedroom door because that was what they did at Tara except it was over the front door instead.
The day was good. Rhett gave Scarlett jewelry, a couple of new dresses, and a book. She had frowned when she had unwrapped the book. Rhett had smiled an unrepentant smile. She gave Rhett jewelry and a new suit. All the other gifts to the rest of the family were gifts from the two of them.
At dinner, Scarlett noticed that Elizabeth didn't have any yams on her plate or a roll either. Scarlett also knew that her mother-in-law would not be having pecan pie for dessert.
As the family was eating Robert said, "Father, why do I have to go back to the University. I already know everything I need to know."
"No, Robert. You will be a well-educated young man. That includes getting a degree from a university."
Rhett quipped, "Daphne will wait for you. After all, you are the most eligible man in Charleston."
Robert's cheeks got pink, but while looking at his mother, he said, "I wish the ladies of society were nicer to her and her mother."
Elizabeth ignored Robert's statement. Scarlett said, "I will invite her to tea. Her and her mother." She turned to Rhett and said, "I don't have any friends either."
"Good idea, Sweetheart."
Robert said, "I would appreciate it, Scarlett."
It was the most warmth there had been in Robert's voice when he spoke to Scarlett since hers and Rhett's wedding. She said, "Yes, I will send a note inviting her to tea next week. I will get her address later. I will invite my friend, Rachel Owens."
Rhett said, "Good idea. You could attend, Mother."
"If I am home at the time, I will."
Everyone at the table knew that Elizabeth would not be home. She would not lower her standards for anyone. Well, except when she married a pirate's son to save her family from destitution.
That night in their room Scarlett said, "Something I don't understand, Rhett, why are my aunts so well received in Charleston? They were both born in Savanah."
"I don't know. Maybe because they are prissier than the Charleston matrons even my mother."
Scarlett giggled and went back to brushing her hair. Rhett laid on the bed naked watching her. His erection was quite evident. He wished she would hurry up and come to bed. He would have laughed if he had known she was deliberately taking her time, because she knew he would wait for her no matter what.
Later the next week, Scarlett said, "If we go to New Orleans during the first weeks of February we will be there while they are celebrating something called Mardi Gras. It is a celebration with public festivities and private costumed balls."
"We will have to enjoy the French food there. I am sure it is delicious."
"The guidebook has two second-rate hotels. One is near Jackson Square. That is a square that has a statue of Andrew Jackson."
"Probably because he was the hero of the Battle of New Orleans."
"I thought he was once president."
"He was, but first he was the hero of the Battle of New Orleans."
"Battle of New Orleans?"
"It was during the War of eighteen twelve. The British had been trying to capture New Orleans. It was a five-month campaign that was ended when General Jackson soundly defeated General Pakenham in the final battle of the war. Want to know something sad?"
"What?"
"The war of eighteen twelve was already over. The peace treaty was signed fifteen days earlier."
"How sad. All those men dying for no reason."
"True. Where is the other location?"
"In the French Quarter. The city was originally settled by the French and that was their settlement."
"Let's stay there. I think my business contact lives in that part of the town. His name is Eleuthere du Pont."
"Alright. It is called the French Market Inn."
"I will make the arrangements for us to leave the first week in February. It will take us almost as long to get to New Orleans as it did to get to New York."
"I am going to get the cook to make us some sandwiches for the first part of the trip."
"Good idea. We will find somewhere to get portable food before we leave New Orleans."
"Do I need a new dress for social events there?"
"No, the two dresses you got for New York will work fine but find a shawl that works with the dresses."
Scarlett smiled and said, "You will have to go with me."
"I will be happy too."
Rhett and Scarlett went shopping the next day. They found two beautiful shawls. One was in a cream color with brown threads weaved through it. The other was yellow with a parrot on the back. Rhett bought them both. He could afford to because he was spending his father's money. He bought her a couple of new hats and purses also. One hat was green, and the other one was blue. The purses were brown, blue, and green. He loved giving her gifts because she was always so appreciative.
The next week Scarlett had Rachel, Daphne, and Felicia Moon to the townhouse for tea. The ladies arrived at one. To no one's surprise Elizabeth and her mother were not home. She had even taken Rosemary with her.
Scarlett and her guests had a good time. Daphne and her mother talked about their life in England. They had emigrated to America for a better life. Although their life had been fairly good in Manchester Warren Moon, Daphne's father, thought their life would be better in America. In particular in South Carolina.
Warren had bought a textile mill. He made fabric, yarns, and threads. He was making a good profit, so the move was worthwhile.
Everyone had a good time. Two weeks later, Rachel invited everyone to tea with a few other guests. They were women who lived in Charleston but weren't born in Charleston. It seemed there were quite a few women who were being excluded by Charleston's proper ladies. Everyone had a good time. Felicia Moon announced that she would be having a tea in her home in a couple of weeks.
Scarlett said, "Wait until Rhett and I come back from New Orleans."
"Are you going to see the city?"
"No. Rhett has business in the city and asked me to go along with him."
"Now is the time to do it before you get with child."
"True."
"I will wait until you come back."
"Thank you."
Soon Rhett and Scarlett were on the train to New Orleans, after they were settled, he said, "We are going through Atlanta, but we will have at most thirty minutes. Not enough time to make it worth your parents' time and effort to meet us."
Sadly, Scarlett said, "I agree."
"I should have some time in April to take you to Tara and spend a month."
"Thank you, Rhett."
"Is that worthy of a special thank you?"
"When you actually do it."
Rhett laughed and held her hand.
The couple squabbled a lot, but most of that was because they both always thought they were right. It also had to do with Rhett intentionally aggravating her. Rhett had taken Scarlett to the bookstore. She had bought two books that he had recommended and ten of those dreaded dime novels.
