Chapter 2: Devine Interventions
Atop Mount Olympus, Realm of the Greek Gods, inside the Queen's Private Quarters…
Queen Hera, the Sky Goddess of the Olympian Pantheon, Queen of the Heavens, and as far as she was concerned, the Real Ruler of Mount Olympus, was sitting on her golden throne inside her own extravagant and private chambers, situated far away from the rest of her fellow gods, high atop the floating mountain that she and the majority of her pantheon called home.
The Queen of the Heavens was dress royally as usual, draped in a purple Grecian style dress decorated by numerous, colourful peacock feathers coming out the back like a cloak, a bejewelled crown sat atop her single long braided, purple haired head and a giant green gem incrusted chalice rested in her hand, filled to the brim with golden nectar wine.
It was her second glass that evening.
The Goddess of the Sky, Womanhood, Marriage, Family and so many other things that she did not even bother to name anymore, was in yet another of her famous foul moods, having just been once again humiliated by her younger brother and former husband Zeus earlier that evening.
The Sky Goddess sighed and rubbed her temple in frustration, the second glass of nectar had done very little to alleviate her stress over the situation her ex-husband had so recently put both her and her worshippers in.
She sighed again and looked at the wine pitcher on the table near her balcony, perhaps a third glass would do the trick.
Of course, deep down, she knew a third glass wouldn't make any difference at all in improving her mood or her helping her solve her current dilemma, but still, she got up from her throne and began pouring its golden liquid into her silver chalice anyway.
As she did so, looking at her own miserable reflection in the silver surface of her pitcher as she poured the last vestiges of wine, Hera felt herself reflect on how things had come to this point, as she was often prone to do whenever she started drinking.
When the Olympian Pantheon had first officially formed after the Titanomachy, more commonly known to the mortals of Ancient Greece as the Great Titan War, a name she personally did not agree with, as in her opinion, there was nothing great about war she and siblings fought to avenge their mother's death at the colossal hands of their father.
But regardless, after successfully freeing the Greek world from Cronus's cruelty. Hera had done her duty as Rhea's most powerful daughter and married her younger, even more powerful brother Zeus, in order to help her pantheon's secure their new rule over both the mortal and immortal realms.
Granted, her arrogant and prideful little brother would not have been her first choice for a husband and ruler, she would have much preferred her cousin Helios or even her eldest brother Hades instead. But Zeus had been their leader during their long war against the Titans and had led them all to victory in the final battle against their father, which by the divine law passed down by the Primordials themselves, meant he had more than earned the right to crown himself king of their new pantheon.
That also meant he had the right to choose which ever Greek Goddess he wanted as his queen and for whatever reason, he had chosen her, the Goddess of Family, Marriage, and Womanhood, perhaps he saw the merit of their union as the two most powerful male and female children of Cronus and Rhea, perhaps he wanted to show his appreciation for her valour during the Titanomachy or perhaps he just really desired her as both a potential queen and a woman.
A long time ago, Hera liked to believe it was at least one or all three of those reasons, but eventually, it turned out to be none of them.
Still, despite her misgivings about her marriage to Zeus, she had stood loyally by his side as they built Mount Olympus together and ruled over the mortal realms of Ancient Greece, as well as performing her wifely duties by offering him wise council and bearing him a strong male heir in their son Ares.
But still, all her efforts to make their relationship work, did not change the fact that their marriage was a political one, right from the very beginning and soon it became a very cold one as well. For how had that lighting loving idiot repaid her for bearing him godly children and helping him secure their divine kingdom? By cheating on her with anything that moved and had a pretty face, of course.
Over the very, very, very long years of their farce of a marriage, Zeus had cheated on her with both mortal and immortal women of every class and kind, siring half-breed bastards on almost all of them, and any time she would speak up against her husband's shameless adultery, he would simply ignore her or demand that she be silent about it.
It was not a queen's place to tell a king what he can or cannot do, he would tell her, or rather WHO he can or cannot do, and that was how things were for the rest of their marriage, until finally, she could no longer take his humiliations of her and divorced him.
As for her ex-husbands numerous bastard children, Hera had taken the upmost joy in tormenting most of them over the centuries whenever her thundering brother was not looking, not that he actually cared for many of the half-bred by-products of his mortal and divine affairs anyways… except for one bastard in particular and it was that one that Hera hated the most of all, for… a multitude of reasons, some much more personal than others.
But in truth, Hera knew that despite being the Goddess of Marriage, that her fairly newfound status with Zeus as a divine divorced couple did not really matter in the grand scheme of things anymore, as it was not long after she finally broke off their sham of a marriage, did the civilisation of Ancient Greece finally fall to make way for the more modern era they all existed in now.
As the centuries passed, all of the Greek Gods and Goddesses saw their influence over the Grecian world gradually decrease as most mortals simply forgot that the Olympian Pantheon ever really existed in the first place, to be replaced by newer faiths and other foreign religions.
In the aftermath of that last terrible Telchine Rebellion, those few surviving Greek Gods and Goddesses which now made up what was left of the Olympian Pantheon, only had a handful of human worshippers left to rule over. Of which, Hera had the most to her godly name, something she honestly was very grateful to the spirit of her mother Rhea for, but still, that small consolation prize did not change the fact that being the richest among the poor was hardly anything to brag about.
The subject of her worshippers was actually the cause of her latest scorning by her ex-husband, Hera had petitioned for more islands, so that her worshippers could expand their kingdom, and potentially increase the worship of their pantheon, she had added hopefully, but Zeus had flatly refused her, saying that one island of fiery feminists was more than enough. Hera had stormed out of throne room after that, her face fuming as Zeus few fanatical followers laughed at their king's bad joke, while Hera took comfort in a bottle of her beloved nectar wine.
The Sky Goddess was just halfway through her third glass, when a distant boom coming from outside her chambers caught her attention, so much so that she actually put her glass of nectar down and walked out onto her balcony to get a better look at it.
Far away, just above the cloud-line, but below the stars, a bright fiery light was soaring down from the darkened sky, something was entering the Earth's atmosphere… something that was strangely familiar to her…
Hera frowned as she watched the ball of light continue to make its descent, thinking quietly to herself as she examined it more closely with her celestial powers, whatever this thing was, one thing was for certain, it was not of this world.
The members of the Olympian Pantheon were aware that there were other worlds outside of the one they ruled over, probably more so than of other far-off planets with life, filled with civilisations of foreign mortals and their own strange gods and goddess, but this fact mattered very little to most of the Greek Gods and their aspirations.
As long as those alien gods kept to their own worlds and left theirs alone, Hera knew most Greek deities simply did not care to learn more about what lay out there, beyond the stars that even looked down upon Mount Olympus.
But Hera was not most Greek Gods, this though, this had possibilities… even from this vast distance, Hera could already sense a great power coming from that fiery pod, or rather… coming from inside the pod itself.
Focusing on its alien energy from where she stood out on her balcony, she sensed that there was something alive inside that strange pod, two somethings in fact… and one of them was very powerful.
Powerful enough that it could be very useful to her and her worshippers in the future, especially with what she knew ex-husband Zeus had planned for them in his mad bid to return to his full authority as King of the Gods.
So, thinking fast, and with a divine flick of her finger, the Queen of the Heavens used her power over the weather to change the trajectory of the alien pod, altering it from its original course of the American town of Smallville and instead towards a certain island in the middle of the Aegean Sea…
…an island which she and the rest of her pantheon, particularly its female members, still had complete dominion over, except for her ex-husband Zeus, for… obvious reasons.
Hera smiled to herself in satisfaction as she watched the pod shoot across the starry night sky, now in the complete opposite direction, before making its meteoritic descent just off the islands sandy shore with a mighty crash that would surely get its inhabitants attention.
Which meant she had to act fast.
The Sky Goddess quickly made her way back over to her golden throne and opened a secret compartment under its seat, inside were three emerald green crystals, which seemed to glow in the dark, radiating with alien energy… energy that was similar to what she had sensed coming from within the pod.
Hurriedly, Hera grabbed all three and after taking a moment to down the last of her nectar from her chalice to help calm her nerves, made her way over to her dresser, where her jewellery box was located.
Opening the box and searching through the various pieces of jewellery she had collected over the centuries, Hera quickly found what she was looking for, an ornate silver bracelet and two plain silver bands.
Laying all six items down on atop the dresser cabinet, Hera went and collected her Celestial Sceptre, her iconic weapon that had been crafted by the Telchines long ago before he Titanomachy even began, a royal staff with a huge purple crystal infused at its top and magical runes carved all along its length, the weapon was both regal and powerful, truly worthy of the Queen of the Heavens.
Slamming the bottom of her sceptre down and closing her eyes, Hera called forth the ancient magics taught to her by the Telchines long ago, and after a moment, she opened her eyes again, to reveal that they were now a dark ominous purple,
The same ominous purple glow soon covered both the crystals and the jewellery on her counter as Hera began the magical metallurgy process, fusing one of three glowing crystals to each of the silver accessories, before then cast a series of spells and enchantments over the now bejewelled items.
Once the process was done, Hera examined each of the three accessories closely before then attaching them to her sceptre and walking out of her chambers, stopping only briefly to look herself over in her mirror first before heading out.
She had to make sure she looked her best for her worshippers, she had a divine declaration to give.
