In this chapter, our heroes will encounter Eveels!
What evil things are they up to?
Of course, I think you already know what the Dragonlord is up to.
He is up to no good!
Chapter 18: Eeling Fine
This time, the Mario Brothers decided to sit the level out.
They received a call to deal with a toilet.
"We'll be back once we sort-a the problem out." spoke Mario. There might not be a princess to save, but the house owner would appreciate their help.
Luigi nodded.
He imagined the problem wouldn't take long. Though he did note that it wasn't as exciting as stomping on Goombas or hammering Koopa Troopas.
"I'll see you later." said Jessica.
She waved goodbye to the two brothers. She wished them luck with their task.
The two of them went down a warp pipe.
"I guess you're going to be the only guy on this team for the time being." noted Jade.
"Ladies love me." remarked Angelo.
"I love you, but try not to flirt too much." asked Jessica.
Dragoneel's Undersea Grotto
"I think the Dragoneel is on vacation." said Angelo.
It looked like this eel wasn't coming out to play.
Kudos to anyone who got that reference.
He is? Isle Delfino is nice this time of year.
"Maybe I could go there again." noted Peach. Once the adventure had been completed, of course. It would be a good way to celebrate defeating the Dragonlord…if they could pull it off.
Shadow Mario wasn't there anymore…right? He had polluted Isle Delfino enough as it was.
Eveel's Undersea Grotto
Some Eveels appeared.
One of them let out an evil laugh.
"I'm pretty sure these monsters are up to no good." noted Jessica.
"Did their name tip you off?" asked Jade.
"Well, obviously. But the evil laugh as well." answered the mage. She had enough encounters with an evil jester to know what evil laughter sounded like.
Sure enough, the Eveels started to attack.
Their fangs were dripping with poison.
It would be best not to get bitten by them. Otherwise their health would be sapped over time.
Though Peach could cure the poison if necessary. And they had refreshing herbs if she rah out of MP.
Speaking of Peach, she hit the Eveels with Zap.
"Ouch! That spell is no laughing matter!" exclaimed one of the Eveels.
Some Mud Mannequins appeared.
"In my opinion, your name is mud." spoke one of the mannequins.
"Isn't that hypocritical?" asked Peach. Perhaps they should tell them something different.
"Hmm? Oh wait, that's right." recalled one of the mannequins.
Angelo slashed one with his sword.
But he got his outfit muddy.
"I suppose I can get a new one from the shop." noted the young man. They were having a sale at the moment.
It would be helpful to get new armor anyway. After all, they were going to fight the general soon. Assuming they could reach her.
Alternatively he could take his outfit to the cleaners. They had a laundromat as well. Though their washing machines were admittedly Toad size.
One of the mannequins did a dance.
Jessica lost a small amount of MP.
"Hey! That's my MP!" exclaimed the sorceress. How could she cast spells if she didn't have that?
Some Mischievous Moles appeared.
Undoubtedly, they were planning to cause trouble.
Jessica remembered when some moles decided to dig into Ascantha Castle and take something that did not belong to them.
Luckily, they managed to get it back. Don Mole was really bad at playing that harp anyways.
One of the moles whacked Jessica with his shovel.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the sorceress. That one stung a bit.
However, Angelo hit him in retaliation.
Peach attempted to whack one with her frying pan, but he blocked it with his shovel.
"Can't you leave us be so we can find treasure?" asked the Mischevious Mole.
"I thought you were here to fight us." answered Peach.
"Huh? Oh yeah." recalled the mole. Though he wondered why he had brought shovels to battle. He was pretty sure that there were better weapons in the shop.
Although, the thought of finding treasure by digging it up was nice.
Speaking of which, there was a treasure chest in the sand.
The Mischievous Mole decided to open it.
But it was a Cannibox in disguise.
"D'oh!" exclaimed the mole. Perhaps he should have examined the treasure chest a bit more carefully.
Some monsters were sneaky.
"Hahahaha!" laughed the Cannibox.
"I think we should be careful opening treasure chests." noted Peach. Chances are they could be a Cannibox in disguise.
"Yeah. I've encountered some of them before." replied Jessica. It made her afraid to open up treasure chests. Which was a shame, since opening treasure chests was a good way to collect mini medals.
This time, the guardian was a Wyrtle.
She was joined by a Cross Bones. It seemed that for the second time they were fighting a duo to get to the flagpole.
It likely wasn't going to be the last.
"Avast, mateys!" exclaimed the pirate.
"You remind me of Captain Crow." noted Jessica. Perhaps this pirate was a captain as well. Though she did not see a crew around.
"Have ye met him?" asked the monster with a hook. He was rather infamous. They said that he still guards his treasure fiercely even after his death.
"Yeah. He really liked to psyche himself up." spoke the sorceress. Defending themselves was a great idea in that fight. Though if one of them could learn Disruptive Wave, that would work wonders in that battle.
"This monster reminds me a bit of Bowser." noted Peach, pointing to the Wyrtle. The Koopa King looked like a dragon and a turtle himself.
"Who is this Bowser?" asked Wyrtle. She was a newcomer to the kingdom. So she hadn't heard of him. Though the name did sound a bit menacing.
"The biggest villain around…before the Dragonlord showed up, at least." noted Peach.
It seemed Bowser and the Dragonlord were tied.
The Wyrtle attempted to bite Angelo.
But he blocked it with his shield.
"Darn it! I was too slow!" exclaimed the Wyrtle.
Cross Bones attacked with his hook.
Lucky for him, he was fast enough to get a hit in.
Jade got hit.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the martial artist. That hook was ironically coming in handy for the pirate.
It seemed he didn't need to use his sword to fight.
Though he still wished to use it in battle.
Peach cast Midheal on Cross Bones.
"Aaarghhh!" exclaimed the undead. Who would have thought a princess would be so strong?
Of course, he hadn't met Alena.
Cross Bones lunged with his sword, but Angelo blocked it with his own blade.
Angelo then stabbed him.
He decided to summon help to fight the heroes. After all, was he not working with a partner? It seemed fitting. Like his uniform.
He summoned Skeleton Soldiers.
"Haven't you fought them before?" asked Peach. At this point, it seemed that fighting skeletons would be too easy for Jessica.
"Yes, but these ones are stronger." noted Jessica. A closer look showed that their armor was a different color.
Additionally, their blades were enchanted to cause curses if they cut their foes.
"We sure are!" exclaimed a soldier. They assumed that their weaker comrades wouldn't be up for the task.
The Skeleton Soldiers marched towards our heroes.
Peach cast Midheal on a skeleton soldier.
"Why did they have to have a healer in their group?" questioned the soldier. It certainly made things more challenging for them.
Luckily, Jessica managed to avoid being cut by the blades.
But Angelo did not.
"Oh no…I'm cursed." spoke Angelo.
"You have my blessing!" exclaimed Peach.
The curse wore off.
"Thanks!" exclaimed Angelo.
The Cross Bones summoned Dead Residents next.
"Don't the cannonballs attached to their ankles slow them down?" questioned Angelo.
He didn't see the point of handicapping minions. Though Bowser did have a history of attaching Chain Chomps to wooden blocks.
"Maybe. But there's a method to my madness!" explained the Cross Bones.
A dead resident turned around and the cannonball slammed into Angelo.
He was stunned.
"I feel dizzy…" noted the white-haired boy.
Luckily, these undead enemies were vulnerable to healing magic as well.
"Aaarghhh!" exclaimed a dead resident who was hit by Midheal.
It seems that Peach was the MVP for this fight.
Angelo recovered from his injury.
This time, he would be careful to dodge the dead residents.
Wyrtle hit the heroes with Flame Breath.
"I'm about to heat things up!" exclaimed the dragon that was also a turtle.
Well, two of them.
"Ouch! That's hot!" exclaimed Jessica.
"I'll say!" shouted Jade.
Of course, people had called them hot.
Luckily for the Cross Bones, Wyrtle was careful not to hit the undead enemies.
That would make the Cross Bones…cross.
Jessica cast Bang on the undead enemies.
Some of them were taken down.
"Oh no! My crew!" exclaimed the Cross Bones. It looked as if they were fighting a losing battle.
Jade then followed by using a Roundhouse Kick on the residents.
Peach hit the Cross Bones again.
The undead captain fell to the ground.
"It looks like I've been made to walk the plank!" exclaimed the Cross Bones. Unfortunately for him, his crew could not protect him from his foes.
Without their master, the undead army crumbled.
Though one of the dead residents did drop a monster token.
It seemed that he was impressed with Peach's power.
"Oh no…" said the Wyrtle. There went her comrade. Now it was up to her to defeat the heroes.
She spun towards them in her shell.
Our heroes moved to avoid it.
Luckily, they dodged long enough that the Wyrtle got dizzy.
Jade then finished the fight with a kick to the head.
"Are you dragon slayers?" asked the Wyrtle. They seemed to have fighting experience with dragons.
Though this was technically their first fight with a Wyrtle.
"We did fight a Jargon on the way here." noted Jessica.
Peach and Jade pulled on the flagpole together.
Now it was time to storm the castle…as the heroes had done twice before.
Mario and Luigi reappeared from a warp pipe. The job was done.
"You made it to my castle? I'm impressed." noted Gracos. These heroes seemed experienced with combat.
Well, she was looking forward to a challenge anyway.
If our heroes wanted to fight, she would entertain them.
Though they would have to get past the monsters in the castle first.
Chances are the castle would have the strongest monsters in World 3.
In the Giggleho cave…
Our heroes encountered some Bob-Ombs.
It seemed they were guarding the way to Morton.
"I think Morton knows that we're here." noted Kiryl.
"I was hoping for the element of surprise." spoke Nera. But it looked as if they would not have that advantage.
"You're about to taste our explosive power!" exclaimed a Bob-Omb. It was certainly something they were proud of.
One of the Bob-Ombs ignited his fuse.
"It's gonna blow!" warned Peasley.
"That's not good." remarked Kiryl.
The Bob-Omb exploded.
Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Thanks to the prince warning them in time.
But it was a close call.
It would be best if they defeated these Bowser Baddies quickly. The sooner they defeated them, the less likely they would be able to explode.
Incidentally, there were some Bob-Ombs that were native to the Beanbean Kingdom. They weren't only in the Mushroom Kingdom.
There were Boos as well.
"Boo!" exclaimed one of the Boos.
"These enemies are spooky." noted Kiryl.
"We like this cavern! It's dark!" exclaimed the Boo. Though it would be nice to have a haunted mansion all to themselves. There was treasure to be found in those haunted residences, after all.
"These enemies indeed are spooky. But I think your healing magic will work on them." suggested Alena.
They were undead enemies, after all.
Kiryl cast a healing spell on a Boo.
"Ouch!" exclaimed one of the Boos.
One of them turned invisible.
"Where did he go?" asked Nera.
He was there just a few minutes ago.
Suddenly, he reappeared behind Nera.
"Nera! Behind you!" warned Kiryl.
Nera turned around.
"Darn it! I was so close!" pouted the Boo. It looked like his sneak attack had failed.
Guarding the cave were Chain Chomps, in addition to the other baddies they faced.
"Bark bark bark!" exclaimed one of the Chomps.
"I hope we don't end up becoming dog food." noted Kiryl.
"That would not be a good way to end our adventure." acknowledged Nera. Ironically, she happened to like dogs.
Alena kicked away a Chain Chomp that tried to bite her.
The Chomp whined.
Another lunged towards Peasley.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the prince. He didn't appreciate the Chain Chomp using him as a chew toy.
It seemed he was a bit too slow to dodge that attack.
Nera blasted the Chain Chomps with fire.
They were starting to feel like hot dogs.
Alena decided to chain them together.
The Chain Chomps whined again. It looked like they were trapped.
There were Swoopers in the cave as well.
As their name implied, they swooped down from above.
But Nera could shoot them down with her magic.
"You're driving me batty!" exclaimed one of the Swoopers.
Kiryl found that wind spells worked well.
After all, these were flying enemies.
Peasley decided to try stroking his hair.
Sure enough, the bats did not like bright light.
"They're using light against us!" exclaimed the Swooper. This was looking to be an uphill battle for them.
Sure enough, the Swoopers lost.
Some Monty Moles appeared from below.
It seems Jessica's team weren't the only ones fighting moles.
They decided to toss pebbles at our heroes.
"Ow! Quit it!" demanded Kiryl.
Luckily, he had a shield if he needed it.
Alena kicked a Monty Mole.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the mole.
Our heroes reached Morton's chambers.
Unsurprisingly, the Koopaling was waiting for them there.
"You make it here. Me impressed." noted the Koopaling. Though it was possible that the minions had simply been incompetent. He wouldn't put it past them.
"Funny, he's speaking like how I do in the remakes." spoke Alena.
"Is that problem?" asked Morton. The other Koopalings didn't mind how he talked.
"No." answered the princess. But all the other Koopalings seemed to talk normal.
"Morton beat you! You no pass!" exclaimed the biggest of the Koopalings. He wasn't going to fall as easily as Larry did, that was for sure.
He pulled out his wand.
In the next chapter, our heroes will fight Morton. Alena's team that is.
And Jessica's team will fight Gracos!
If they beat her, they'll have defeated three of the Dragonlord's generals.
That's no small feat.
