Star Gazers

Chapter 4: A Prince's Departure

The next morning in Puente Antiguo showed the clear blue sky and the sun shining brightly.

In addition, the weather and temperature was gorgeous.

It seemed the day was going to fine for everyone.

If only that was true that is.

Within the S.H.I.E.L.D facility, Rosalie winced a bit as Clint placed a bandage around her sore wrist.

"So the bastard just disappeared after I found you?"Clint questioned, not happy of what his friend just told him.

"Yeah."Rosalie replied."Had him at gun point, but he overpowered me."

"You are usually the one that can kick anyone's ass, Rosa."Clint complemented."Never heard the other way around happen before."

Clint finished carefully cover the soreness on Rosalie's wrist with the bandage.

"I doubt Natasha would stand against that maniac as well."Rosalie stated.

"Hey, never underestimate the Black Widow."Clint chuckled, remembering his other partner."Her venom is about 15 times stronger than rattlesnake venom."

Rosalie slightly chuckled as she used her other arm to finish drinking her cup of chai latte.

She didn't actually tell Clint that the guy that she met last night was actually Loki; the God of Mischief.

Especially, the part that the creep kissed her.

Well, it wasn't her first kiss.

But what he did to her still was unforgivable.

Not longer after her conversation with Clint, Rosalie went to her private room to put on her 'Lady Canary' attire.

Rosalie now wore a black one-piece bustier-leotard combination under a blue lapelled jacket, black short trousers and grey stockings with seams up the front and back. She wore black calf-length boots, black fingerless gloves that go past the elbow to the biceps and a black choker with a blue bird gem attached on it.

Lastly, she placed on her belt around her hips that contained her whip and other weapons.

As soon as Rosalie stepped out of her private room, an agent rushed up to her.

"Agent Breisgau."the agent said.

Rosalie notice a nervous look on the agent's face, making her concern.

"What's happening?"Rosalie questioned.

"We don't know. There was a massive energy reading came through on our equipment not very long ago."the agent admitted."Commander Coulson and several others went to check it out. Less than a minute ago, another energy reading came through in the same place. I don't know what happened, but they've just requested a medical team be sent over to that location. Coulson requested that you meet him in town."

Rosalie was immediately on alert as she followed the young agent towards the motor pool.

"Who's hurt?"Rosalie asked.

"We don't know. The call came in less than two minutes ago."the agent complemented."Our agents in town have gone quiet. We're effectively blind."

Rosalie nodded before she headed out of the facility to get onto her hi-tech motorcycle.

Lady Canary's signature vehicle was black and blue version with a glowing blue bird symbol headlight.

Rosalie notice Clint coming forward while putting his quiver on his back as well as his compound bow.

"Mind if I tag along?"Clint suggested.

Rosalie smirked. "Hop on."

When Clint went to sit behind her, Rosalie didn't waste any time activating her motorcycle and skidding away in a cloud of dust.

The agents guarding the gate saw them coming and waved them on.

They'd obviously received the same message.

As Rosalie drew closer to town, she noticed a weird cloud that seemed to be hanging over the place.

It wasn't until she was less than ten miles out that she realised that it was smoke.

The town was quite literally on fire!

Rosalie pressed a few buttons and the motorcycle increased its speed without effort.

As Rosalie skidded to a halt on the outskirts of town, the smoke and debris was so thick that even she couldn't see anything.

She wasn't sure what she should do.

She didn't want to just rush in without knowing what she was rushing into.

Just then the smoke cleared for a few seconds, but that was all the time that Rosalie needed to see what was happening.

It was an enchanted suit of armour that is lifeless covered in metal plating with a core in the center of its chest and has sets of spikes on its sides. Its head had a U-shaped plate on top of it and a vent-like visor where it can emit energy from. Two glowing eyes were also present above the visor.

Both Rosalie and Clint were equally shocked at what they were seeing.

"What the hell is that?"Clint questioned.

Rosalie notice the stinging on her sore wrist hurting a bit, making her realise Loki had something to do with that machine of destruction.

"No idea, Hawkeye."Rosalie answered."But my whip and your arrows are pointless against it."

The young woman became surprised at seeing four people dressed in clothes that looked like they'd come out of the Middle Ages fought the giant metal monster.

It didn't seem to be doing any good.

The only thing it seemed to do was make the machine of destruction madder.

Rosalie then caught sight of 'Donald' next to Dr Selvig, Jane and Darcy.

"Wait here."Rosalie instructed.

Rosalie got off her motorcycle, alarming Clint.

"Rosa, where are you going?!"Clint demanded."Rosa!"

Rosalie ignored Clint shouting at her and rushed up to Thor.

"Thor."Rosalie spoke up, earning the blonde haired man's attention as well his companions."Do you know what is that?"

"Indeed I do, Lady Rosalie."Thor responded."It's the Destroyer."

"The Destroyer?"Rosalie said in confusion.

"The tale of the Destroyer begins with my father."Thor exclaimed."Ages ago, Great Odin commissioned the dwarves to build the ultimate weapon the same craftsmen who forged mighty Mjølnir. It is called the Destroyer because that is his simple purpose. The destruction of all, virtually unstoppable."

Rosalie paled at Thor's respond, knowing fully what Loki's purpose was of bringing the Destroyer to the small town.

"You know your brother send it here to kill you, right?"Rosalie informed.

"I know."Thor admitted with a small smile."But don't worry. I have a plan."

"Your brother?"Jane questioned.

'Donald' didn't respond to Jane and started courageously walking towards the Destroyer.

"What's he doing?"Dr Selvig asked.

Rosalie scrunched her eyebrows in worry as she watched the Asgardian Prince walk towards the machine of destruction with no fear.

"Brother, whatever I have done to wrong you, whatever I have done to lead you to do this, I am truly sorry."Thor declared."But these people are innocent. Taking their lives will gain you nothing. So take mine...and end this."

Everyone watched Thor in silence with various looks of anxiety.

Rosalie, however, smiled a bit upon hearing the words of the Thunder God.

It seemed his time on Earth had really changed him for the better.

Suddenly, the Destroyer appeased down and began to turn around, apparently changing its mind about wanting to kill Thor.

But then the deadly machine turn to Thor and swat out his arm right at him, sending him flying backwards quite a few feet and landing hard on the ground with a sickening crack.

"No!"Jane shouted in terror.

Jane rushed over to 'Donald' even as the Destroyer turned away from the downed man.

Rosalie covered her mouth in shock at what she just witnessed.

Loki won.

Thor's younger brother got what he wanted.

Jane's eyes began to tear up and knelt down before she touched Thor's face that was now beaten, her soft fingers stroking him gently like a feather's touch.

"It's over."Thor whispered.

"No."Jane sobbed with a weak smile."It's not over."

Thor simply gave Jane a gentle smile.

"I mean, you're safe."Thor declared.

"We're safe."Jane assured.

Jane touched Thor's rough face with her delicate shaky hands.

"It's over."Thor repeated.

Thor inhaled deeply, finding it much more difficult to breathe.

Jane's entire body shook with sobs.

"No."Jane cried in sorrow."No."

Rosalie's eyes began to tear up at the awful sight before her.

She knew that Thor wasn't going to make it.

And just when she thought that Jane and Thor might actually get together.

Clint sat on Rosalie's motorcycle and looked down at what he saw.

Suddenly, a flash of movement in his peripheral vision caught his eye.

Clint turned around and watched from behind his eyes as something came barrelling out of the sky towards the town at a breakneck speed.

It was going so fast that Clint couldn't even tell what it was.

However, as it flew past not far from where he was, Clint realised with a start that it was the hammer from the crash site.

"Rosalie, look!"Clint shouted.

Rosalie heard Clint's warning, just in time to see Mjølnir whoosh into the air and heading towards the dying man's direction.

Right where Jane was kneeling.

That's when it happened.

The street they were in suddenly disappeared in a blinding white flash.

When the white flash vanished, Rosalie's eyes widened and jaw dropped open upon the sight before her.

Thor standing near Jane wearing Asgardian armour and held Mjølnir in his hand.

The God of Thunder returned.

"Oh. My. God."Jane whispered in awe.

Rosalie couldn't help but let out a small yet excited squeal at seeing Thor in his true form.

"I knew it!"Rosalie chuckled in amazement.

Clint had a face of utter disbelief due to not believing this day couldn't get any weirder.

The Destroyer lifted its head up at the Thunder God and opened its faceplate to unleash its punitive blast.

Courageously, Thor dived downwards straight at it with his hammer before him.

Mjølnir collided with the Destroyer's fiery energy blast, overpowering it, pushing it back, and forcing it downwards at the Destroyer.

Thor jammed his hammer deep into the Destroyer's faceplate.

The scorching and blistering energy within the enchanted armour built up and suddenly exploded within him, firing out of all of his openings.

Thor smashed the Destroyer to the ground in a tremendous heap, the blazing vigor within it extinguished forever.

The dangerous twister slowly diffused away until beautiful clear sky was shown once again.

Thor then pulled Mjølnir from the Destroyer's faceplate, walking away from its lifeless carcass.

As he did, the other objects and debris pulled into the air by the gale winds drop down from the skies, around the Destroyer, burying it.

When the cloud dissipated, Thor walked out of it without a scratch on him.

Clint didn't say anything since he was still trying to process what he'd just seen.

Rosalie couldn't help but look on with utter joy as she watched the God of Thunder join Jane.

Norse Mythology did exist after all.

"Whosoever holds of this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."Rosalie murmured in delight."You and I were both right, dad."

Jane smiled at Thor.

"So is this how you normally look?"Jane asked.

"More or less."Thor chuckled.

"It's a good look."Jane remarked.

"We must go to the Bifrost site."Thor declared."I would have a word with my brother."

"Excuse me."

Rosalie turned around to see Agent Coulson arrive out of his car with a few other agents and go next to Thor.

"Donald."Agent Coulson responded."I don't think that you've been completely honest with me."

"Know this, Son of Coul."Thor spoke up."You and I, we fight for the same cause, the protection of this world. From this day forward, you can count me as your ally."

Thor walked over to Jane and rested his hand protectively on her back.

"You return the items that you have taken from Jane."Thor insisted.

"Stolen."Jane retorted.

"Borrowed."Agent Coulson responded.

"Mostly stolen."Rosalie complemented.

Clint couldn't help let out a snort of laugher that escaped from his mouth while Agent Coulson gives Rosalie a small glare before he brought his attention back to Jane.

"Of course, you can have your equipment back."Agent Coulson declared."You're going to need it to continue your research."

Thor brought his attention to Rosalie.

"Lady Rosalie, thank you again for believing in me."Thor declared."You have my gratitude."

Rosalie chuckled slightly at the Thunder God's respond and twirled a bit of her hair streak with a finger.

"No need to thank me, Thor."Rosalie assured, feeling flattered."I'm just a part time historian who worked hard on sorting fact from fiction."

"Oh. You're Dr Breisgau. The expert on Norse Mythology."Jane responded, now understanding who the young woman next to her actually was."No wonder you looked familiar."

Rosalie simply smirked at Jane while Clint rolled his eyes at his friend.

Thor glanced at Jane.

"Would you like to see the bridge we spoke off?"Thor asked.

"Sure."Jane said with a shrug.

Before anyone in the circle had fully registered what was happening, Thor had pulled Jane closer to him and taken off straight up into the sky.

"Wait!"Agent Coulson shouted."I need to debrief you!"

Clint chuckled at the look on Agent Coulson's face as he went up to Rosalie while the new couple disappeared from sight.

Dr Selvig, Darcy, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three left as well.

"I don't think they're listening to you, boss."Clint commented.

Agent Coulson turned around and glared at Clint.

"Do you want us to follow them, Phil?"Rosalie suggested.

"No, I don't know that it will do us any good. Just leave them."Agent Coulson declared."We have bigger problems to deal with. Like cleaning up this town, and trying to pass this whole event off as a freak of nature."

Sitwell, one of the high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, nodded at Agent Coulson.

"I'm on it, boss."Sitwell replied.

Sitwell wandered off, issuing orders and instructions into his walkie talkie.

Clint, Agent Coulson and Rosalie were left standing there in the middle of the street, staring at the wreckage around them.

Rosalie smirked as she glanced at Agent Coulson.

"So Phil, do you still think my theories on Norse Mythology existing is still untrue?"Rosalie asked brightly.

"I never said that, Rosalie."Phil replied.

"We both actually thought that, boss."Clint admitted and gives Rosalie an apologetic smile."Sorry that we've doubted you, Rosa."

"Nah, it's fine, Clint. No hard feelings."Rosalie assured."I'm actually glad the powerful and previously arrogant warrior demi-god found what it means to be a true hero before things got more messier. In addition, my research won't be treated as a joke anymore."

Clint suddenly smirked at Rosalie's declaration.

"Oh, Rosa. That reminds me."Clint replied smugly."Did you even have evidence on what you witnessed today?"

Rosalie's smile dropped at Clint's reminder of not having even recorded a video of Thor fighting the Destroyer.

"Crap."Rosalie muttered with a frown.

"Not to worry. Our agents have solved everything out."Phil complemented."But I'm going to have to inform first Director Fury of all this."

Phil walked away while Clint and Rosalie share a smug look with one another.

"You see a bigger picture coming from all this, don't you?"Clint assumed.

"Canaries don't only sing."Rosalie chuckled."But I'll leave you guessing."

Rosalie began to walk away as Clint simply shrugged and followed after his close friend.

Unlike Clint, Rosalie already figured out what Thor's arrival also meant.

Another recruit for the Avengers Initiative.

Thor, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three emerged from the Bifrost entrance into the Observatory to see Heimdall slumped against the controls while the bodies of two Frost Giants were on the ground.

But all of them knew that Loki had let them into Asgard.

He had, perhaps, been the one to let the first three Frost Giants in as well.

Thor gripped Mjølnir tightly and rounded on the Warriors Three and Lady Sif.

"Get him to the healing room."Thor ordered."Leave my brother to me."

Thor lifted Mjølnir above him to use the wind of the storm to sweep him quickly down the rainbow bridge, towards the palace and setting him on the ground just outside the palace's entrance.

The Thunder God headed to Odin's bedchambers just in time to see Loki wearing his armour of gold and green with his gold horned helmet, hug their mother, Queen Frigga.

King Odin appeared to be safe, lying on his bed, a soft golden glow layering him.

There was also two dead Frost Giants on the ground and Laufey dead at the side of King Odin's bed as well.

"I swear to you, mother."Loki responded, looking at Queen Frigga."That they will pay for what they've done today."

"Loki!"Thor snapped.

Queen Frigga notice Thor while Loki became unhappy at seeing his older brother.

"Thor!"Queen Frigga said happily.

Queen Frigga rushed to her eldest son's side and hugged him tightly.

Loki frowned at seeing Mjølnir in Thor's hand.

"Found its way back to you, did it?"Loki assumed.

Thor glared at Loki in anger.

"Why don't you tell her?"Thor demanded."How you sent the Destroyer to kill our friends! To kill me!"

Queen Frigga tensed and took a single step back, looking between her sons, unsure of what happened.

"What?"Queen Frigga asked.

"Well, I must have been enforcing father's last command."Loki lied.

"You're a talented lier, brother."Thor retorted."Always have been."

Loki smiled at his brother's words.

"It's good to have you back."Loki declared."Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to destroy Jotunheim."

Loki then lifted his Gungnir and fired a bolt right at Thor causing him to go flying backwards, smashing through the chamber walls.

Thor plummeted from the palace and plunged down into the reflecting waters below.

With Thor out of his sight, Loki speeds on horseback down the Rainbow Bridge, then quickly dismounted and entered the Observatory.

Once inside, Loki began operating the controls causing the massive turret to spin.

Thor awakened to the sound of the Bifrost and stands up to see the Observatory firing the Bifrost energy into space.

He looks to where the Bifrost was aimed.

It was Jotunheim.

Thor soared on the winds above the Rainbow Bridge and arrived into the Observatory.

The Thunder God landed before the Observatory's huge doorway, only to shield his eyes from the bright light of the Bifrost energy blasting towards Jotunheim.

He looked over to the controls and saw that they were frozen in an enormous block of ice.

Loki stood atop of the ice block.

"All these years and no one's ever dared to use it as a weapon."Loki declared coldly.

Thor hurried to the ice, raised his hammer to smash through it to get to the controls frozen within.

However, Loki fired his Gungnir and the blast hits the ice in front of Thor, attacking him back across the floor.

Loki stepped down from the ice as Thor staggered to his feet.

"You can't stop it."Loki declared."The Bifrost will build until it rips Jotunheim apart."

"Why have you done this?"Thor demanded.

"To prove to father, that I am a worthy son."Loki answered with a stern look."When he wakes, I will have saved his life. I will have destroyed that race of monsters. And I will be true heir to the throne."

"You can't kill an entire race!"Thor protested.

Loki scoffed at Thor's respond while a malicious smile grew on his face.

"Why not? And what is this newfound love for the Frost Giants?"Loki asked, unfazed by his brother's words."You, who could have killed them all with your bear hands."

"I've changed."Thor declared firmly.

"So have I."Loki admitted.

Loki then hits Thor on the face with his Gungnir.

"Now, fight me!"Loki ordered.

Loki swings his Gungnir at Thor again, sending him down on the ground.

"I never wanted the throne!"Loki growled."I only ever wanted to be your equal!"

Thor rises to his feet and turned to Loki.

"I will not fight you, brother!"Thor declared.

"I'm not your brother."Loki replied cruelly."I never was."

"Loki, this is madness!"Thor argued.

"Is it madness? Is it? Is it?!"Loki snarled, growing more angry."Come on, what happened to you on Earth that turned you so soft? Don't tell me it was that woman?"

Thor froze at Loki's declaration.

The God of Mischief smirked upon knowing he found the source of Thor's sudden change of heart.

"Oh, it was."Loki replied with a smirk."Well, let me tell you something. Did you know that I've already paid a little visit to one of your friends. What was that lovely little mortal's name again? Rosalie, was it not?"

"Loki."Thor warned with a glare.

Loki's eyes glinted mischievously.

"I must say, brother. She was certainly interesting."Loki sneered and licked his lower lip a bit upon remembering kissing Rosalie's pink soft lips."Maybe when we're finished here, I should pay her another visit. Perhaps instead I'll visit that Jane woman. Which would you prefer?"

Upon hearing this, Thor let out an angry yell and launched himself at Loki.

The two brothers fly at each other, making hits and landing blows with their weapons.

Loki unleashing years of pent-up rage and jealousy, Thor having no choice but to defend himself.

Thor and Loki then come through the Observatory's dome and land hard, rolling across the Rainbow Bridge.

As Thor gets to his feet, he sees Loki dangling off the Bridge's edge.

"Thor!"Loki called out."Brother, please!"

Thor reached down to grab his brother's wrist, but his hand passed through Loki's.

Just then, the real Loki materialised behind Thor and stabbed him on the stomach with Gungir.

Thor dropped on his knees as Loki cackled evilly while creating many copies of himself to surround his brother and attack him with their Gungnirs.

"ENOUGH!"Thor yelled out.

Thor slammed Mjølnir down onto the bridge as the bolt of lightning he summoned struck all the Lokis till only one was sent flying backwards, the real Loki.

Loki scowled as he landed on the bridge with Gungnir away from his grasp.

The Thunder God then placed his hammer on his brother's chest.

Thor then carefully began making his way close to the Bifrost controls as he could without getting sucked in.

The Bifrost was firing towards Jotunheim and he needed to stop it.

"Look at you! The mighty Thor! With all your strength!"Loki growled as he struggled to remove Mjølnir from his chest."And what good does it do you now?"

Thor looked down at the bridge beneath his feet, vibrating from the force and speed of the Bifrost energy feeding into the Observatory.

Then he gets an idea.

He realises what he must do and what he must sacrifice.

"Do you hear me, brother?!"Loki laughed."There's nothing you can do!"

Thor extends his hand towards Loki to summon Mjølnir.

The hammer goes flying to his grasp.

Loki became confused as Thor raised Mjølnir in the air.

Clouds started to from above Thor with thunder rumbling.

Lightning arcs off of Thor's hammer as he channelled the power of the storm into it.

Thor strikes Mjølnir down upon the Rainbow Bridge.

The blow was massive causing a rumbling along the whole bridge, shaking the control room itself like an earthquake.

A crack appeared where the blow struck.

Loki rises to his feet, shock written all over his features.

"What are you doing?!"Loki demanded."If you destroy the bridge, you'll never see them again!"

Thor lifted the hammer again, brings it down harder.

The crack grows bigger causing the Bifrost energy to start streaming out from it.

Loki summons Gungnir and runs towards Thor, ready to pierce his brother through the back.

"Forgive me, Jane!"Thor declared.

One more time, Thor raised Mjølnir one last time, drawing lightning to it from all sides, and brings it down with a final, terrible blow.

The Bifrost shattered causing rainbow energy to explode out of it.

Both Loki and Thor were hurled into the air by the force of the blast.

A wave of destruction moves forward along the Bridge towards the Observatory, breaking it apart as it goes.

The Observatory then ripped itself apart.

As Loki and Thor fall together, Thor grabbed hold at the end of Gungnir while Loki still clutched the other.

The two brothers both fall towards the massive wave of Bifrost energy which spewed out from the broken bridge.

They were an instant from being blasted by the destructive force of the energy and carried away by the current, when a powerful hand suddenly catches Thor's leg.

The God of Thunder dangles there, holding onto Gungnir as Loki hangs on the other end.

Loki looked up, shocked to see King Odin standing on the edge of the broken bridge, awakened from the Odinsleep and restored to his full strength.

"I could have done it, father! I could have done it!"Loki remarked proudly."For you! For all of us!"

King Odin, however, shook his head in sadness.

"No, Loki."King Odin replied.

Loki searched his father's face, looking for some kind of approval, but all he sees was nothing but disappointment and regret.

The God of Mischief then lets go of Gungnir.

"NO!"Thor cried out.

King Odin and Thor could only watch as Loki falls into the rushing torrent of Bifrost energy.

It carried the raven haired prince away, along with the debris of the bridge and the control room, disappeared out of sight.

King Odin pulled Thor up onto the broken bridge.

Drained, Thor falls back into his father's arms.

"It is over."King Odin stated.

Rosalie couldn't help but feel relieved upon returning back to her main desk at the S.H.I.E.L.D Facility held in the Mojave Desert that was abuzz with activity.

S.H.I.E.L.D scientists and agents worked with various types of equipment that were devices.

Dr Selvig orchestrated the process, giving instructions to the scientists.

They continue to track right outside the glass windows while Rosalie was sitting at the front, working at a small yet improvised workstation with her books on Norse Mythology on her desk.

It's been a couple of days since the events in New Mexico and it seems her research had made quite a difference.

Rosalie smiled slightly at the book that her late father used to always read to her before placing it on her desk and standing up to set up an high-tech device before her which had the 'Stark Industries' logo on it.

Then a holographic screen appeared in front of her which showed her videos of Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America and lastly Thor himself.

As the female historian/agent continued watching the videos until Director Fury arrived inside her study.

"Agent Breisgau."Director Fury responded.

Rosalie turned around and looked at Director Fury.

"Yes, sir?"Rosalie asked.

"I've been hearing about the New Mexico situation."Director Fury declared."Your work has impressed a lot of people who are much smarter than I am."

"I have a lot to work with."Rosalie responded."The Foster Theory. A gateway to another dimension. All this is the unexpected. It's beyond the tales of non-fiction and the studies of science."

"Legend tells us one thing, history, another."Director Fury stated."But every now and then, we find something that belongs to both."

Rosalie raised an eyebrow at Director Fury.

"What is it?"Rosalie questioned.

"Power, Agent Breisgau."Director Fury answered."If we can figure out how to tap it, maybe unlimited power."

Director Fury then walked out of Rosalie's study before the female agent placed off the device and went back on doing her work.

"Well, I guess that's worth a look."

Rosalie's eyes widen and paled at hearing a sudden cold yet familiar male voice.

She slowly turned around and made her way to the entrance of her study, only to see other S.H.I.E.L.D agents going on with their work.

Rosalie simply shook her head and then sat back down on her desk to continue doing her own job.

The female agent/historian paused a bit to look at her bandaged wrist and saw the soreness was slowly fading away.

As Rosalie went back on doing her work, she was completely unaware that Loki was secretly watching her from one of the near windows with a smug look before disappearing from sight.

Rosalie Breisgau aka Lady Canary will return to action in 'Avengers'! But this story is far from over. See you all later and have a good day!
