Chapter 1: An Idea Formed

It was another day at LAPD headquarters with the noises of phone calls and officers running around making an attempt to pass information regarding their cases. In the center of it was Sergent Hondo, under all the crazy he was trying to figure out the situation with Darryl by giving him a home. So, there's been six visits and yet he couldn't find a group of people that would be suitable for him to stay until 18 years old.

After hearing the stories from Street from his history of being in foster homes, he couldn't face the idea of being in a home. It's easy to search for a home, but to find a good home for him, it's the difficult. There always one that looks good and then ends up to being to good to be true. But then there's ones that are just plain terrible from first glance. From money grabbing foster parents to demanding foster parents who are just tiger parents, it's almost hopeless for Darryl to be a functional person in society.

That's when Hondo took upon himself to take the kid, give that good environment he needs to thrive, he see potiential in the kid and wouldn't want him to end up draining his life away. However there's one issue, he can't adopt a minor unless he's in a relationship or a marriage. There's no way Hondo's going to find someone to be with, as there's only a small time for Darryl to be with Hondo before they take him into a group home. Hondo couldn't take that chance.

It was during lunch hour when Hondo went to the kitchen make another phone call, if he can find a loophole, he can still make a last ditch effort to adopt the kid in some way.

"I'm sure there's a way, isn't anything for extension for him to stay in my custody a little longer until I can find a place?" asked Hondo as he tried to figure something out with the social worker.

"Unforetunely, we can't go any further that we have given you ." said the social worker, "There's gotta be someway,"

"I'm sorry Mr. Harrelson, this is all I can do for you, Darryl has no family that could take him, and you aren't legal named as his guardian. So, he have to be transferred to a group home."

Hondo was at a lost, he couldn't fight system, even he tried. He'll just have to pray that kid doesn't end falling apart."

"Thank you for time." said Hondo, "No, problem , if you have anymore concerns, you let me know."

"Absoultely, thank you."

"No, problem anytime."

Hondo hung up on the phone, sitting on the chair feeling defeated, "How's the search for Darryl's home?"

Hondo looked up seeing Street walk into the lunch room, "Not great, with lack of options, they're going to throw him into a home."

"Damn man, I hate the system and how it's bulit." said Street,

"Ugh, I know, I can't leave the kid alone, that kid is going to be destroyed once he enters in, it'll be a miracle if he comes out a functional kid."

"Or he might become a SWAT officer and be reckless" Street joked.

Hondo shook his head, "what are you options if you want to adopt him?" Street asked.

"I have to be married, in a relationship or his legal guardian in order to take him legally." Hondo responded. Then an idea formed as he mentioned the qualifications, Hondo turned to Street.

Street looked back at his friend puzzled. "What?"

"Street…" said Hondo, before could continue on, Deacon came in

"Guys you might wanna gear up there's a robbery taking place at the bank!"

"Got it," said Hondo rushing out of his seat, as he was rushing out Street grabbed him.

"Hey, before we rush off, was there something you were going to ask me?"

"I'll talk to you about later after, for now let's deal with this."

"Alright."

The team drove there way to the bank, they stopped at the location and left out the Black Betty, with gears ready for action.

"Alright team, listen up!" called Hondo, "There's a one man that's taking the whole bank hostage. We want to take him with less casualties as much as possible."

Deacon added, "All eyes and ears, what's the motto?"

"Stay liquid!"

The team entered inside in line, as they entered inside, they spotted the suspect pacing back and forth, trying to figure out his step now that's caught by the police.

"Gregory Fisherman!" called Hondo, Greg pulls up his gun, "Who's there!?" he shouted.

"I'm Sergent Daniel Harrelson, from the LAPD, I'm here to help you!"

"Help me? You can't help me!"

"Yes I can, I can't if you don't let me"

"My life a mess, there isn't anything you can't do that would help me."

"No, you can still turn it around, just turn yourself in, and we can figure something out."

Greg took a shoot at Hondo, and began a run, "Greg!"

Hondo and Street began chasing the suspect down, "Chris! Luca! Get the hostages out, Deac! Tan! Take the back the suspect is heading there!"

The suspect ran to the building leading the duo through the building heading to a dead end with an exit. "Greg!"

The suspect turned around and looked at the two officers, "Let us help you!" Greg took at shot at the a small chandler in the celling, Street stared in horror as the chandler began falling, Hondo jumped the younger officer moving him out of harms way. The duo slide away from the chandler as the shattered to the group, Hondo used his back to shield his partner from the flying glasses spreading throughout the floor.

"Is it over?" says Street, Hondo looked up from their spot, "Were good," Hondo looked over to where the suspect finding the suspect gone. His radio buzzed,

"Hondo!"

It was Deac, "We got the suspect, he's arrested. I heard a crash, you and Street good?"

"Yeah, were good, we'll come meet you outside."

"Hey," greeted Street, "Hey kid" Hondo greeted back, "I wanted to thank you for what you did earlier, I would have been hurt badly if you wasn't for you."

"Hey, it was nothing, I just looking out for my team member like any team leader does."

"No, Hondo, honestly, you saved my life." said Street, "Seriously you did."

Hondo smiled, "Well, I got your back."

"Look, I'm just letting you know, if there's anything you want me to do for you, and I mean anything you want me to do for you. I got you." said Street assuring his friend his support

"Honestly Street, you don't have to." said Hondo

"No, Hondo, you basically almost harmed, the least I can do is to help you anyway I can."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, and I'm not taking no for an answer okay?"

"Fine,"

"Good, you're not just my leader, your best friend."

"You're my best friend too."

"How are you guys, are any of you hurt?" said the Captian checking on the men, "No, were fine."

"I'm glad, I heard from Deacon, I was worried."

"Nah, were SWAT we can survive anything? Right Hondo?" said Street giving out a fist, Hondo bumps Street's fist. "Yeah."

Hondo came into the house that night, he looked around to see Darryl's bag on the counter, he looked around for the him.

"Darryl?"

No answer, he took a trip upstairs to the room on the left and peered in, he found Darryl sleeping, he crept into the room and tucked the kid under the sheets. He couldn't help feel a little sad, he couldn't live witht he fact the kid is going to be taken into a group home, which means he won't be able to be with Hondo as much as Hondo hoped.

Hondo made his way out the door when he heard Darryl, "Hondo?"

"Yeah kiddo?"

"What happened?"

"It went late," he explained to the young boy,

"I mean the social agency, am I able to stay with you?"

Hondo froze, he couldn't lie to the kid, he also didn't want to give the kid the cold news. He gave a sigh, and took a seat on the bed. "I'm not going to lie, it aint looking good."

Darryl looked at Hondo, "hey, I mean you did what you could you know."

"Yeah, but I want to find away to keep you from the system."

"I'm sure I'll be okay, just visit me everyday and we're even."

Hondo chuckled, the kid always got the quick wit like his Dad. "Well, get some sleep, we'll figure the rest out tomorrow."

Darryl tucked himself into the bed, Hondo got up and switched out the lights.

"Night Hondo."

"Night kiddo"

Hondo trailed downstairs to the living room, he grabbed the papers that he left earlier today and started through the papers. Searching through anything that can give him hint of what to do about Darryl's adoption.

Then he remembered what the social worker told him earlier, he wasn't a legal guardian, however, it did mention that couples adopt can legally adopt kid, Hondo ruffled through the papers, and then he found it.

"Those who are eligible for adopting teen or child, are those who are dubbed legal guarudians by the child's biological parent(s) or couples who are opposite sex or same-sex…"

Same sex

Hondo had an idea come to him, perhaps there is a way after all.
