It was the year passed since the trial took place, everything settled down, Hondo gotten back to original routine he had before the whole situation, Street going back to pranks and occasionally pissing off his teams with his jokes. Hondo was trying to get use being without Darryl, though there are days he would not want to go home, he knew he would come home to an empty house, no teenager digging in your fridge, or someone you can watching movies with. Just him and himself with thoughts of everything that's going on around him.
Until one day, a knock on his door took place while he was by himself watching a show, he volumed down the television to get a listen to the sound.
Hondo: Hello?
Again, another knock. Hondo got up from the couch, to check the door, he was shocked. It was Darryl, he opened the door
Hondo: Darryl, what happened?
Darryl: Hey Hondo, do you mind if I stay with you?
Hondo: You know can't Darryl
Darryl: I can't go back Hondo, my mom won't let me
Hondo: Why wouldn't she?
Darryl: Rodney came back
Hondo: Rodney?
Darryl: Can I?
Hondo: I'm sorry Darryl, I want nothing more than to help you but if you come here it would be consider kidnapping. Come on, let's take you home.
Hondo drives to the house, there was nothing but silence between them, not awkward silence, but peaceful silence, the type knowing that you are safe with that person.
They arrived to the house, and Hondo walked over to the door with Darryl beside him. He knocked the door and waited. Nothing. He knocked the door, still nothing.
He knocked once more, then finally his mother opened the door.
Tonia: Daniel?
Hondo: Tonia
Tonia got out of the house closing the door
Tonia: What is it?
Hondo: Your son tell me that you won't let him in
Tonia: i can't let him in
Hondo: Why can't you?
Tonia: I can't, it just Rodney just returned and I don't want to cause issues.
Hondo was stunned, she fought for almost a year and a half for Darryl to only abandon him once again when her second husband comes back. It really was money.
Hondo: Why don't get Rodney out, there's no reason to keep him if you have push out your child in order to keep him.
Tonia: I'm sorry Hondo
Darryl: Where am I going to go if I can't stay with you, I have to be somewhere I don't have anywhere else to go
Tonia looked to Hondo for help, Hondo stared at Tonia noticing a plead in her eyes. He knew, she wanted him to take her son. She would be no good for him.
Hondo: Darryl, go wait in the car.
Darryl goes to the car, Hondo turns to Tonia to say one last piece.
Hondo: I'll take Darryl for tonight, but I'm returning him in the morning. By then, you'll need make a decision, your kid or Rodney and both know that Rodney has nothing to give.
Tonia glance at Hondo before entering house in silence, closing the door behind leaving Hondo out front. The next day Hondo was making breakfast for him and Darryl when he got a knock at the door, he paused to check it out. It was Tonia, beside her were suitcases, Hondo opened the door.
Hondo: Tonia
Tonia: Good morning Hondo, do you have a min, I have to be quick
Hondo: Did you think about last night?
Tonia: Darryl should stay with you. I won't be able to be the mother that Darryl needs, I have too weighting on me and You are the one that can really look out Darryl.
Hondo: You know that Darryl is going to need you Tonia, I don't think you can leave him like that again.
Tonia: I won't have to worry about that, because I know he'll be in good hands.
Hondo: The court is not going to accept this Tonia, I have no rights on him
Tonia: You won't have to worry about that, I have papers here that I have signed a while ago
Hondo was taken back
Hondo: What?
Tonia: I have papers that I have signed, it makes you permanent guardian for Darryl, I went a while ago to written ago with my lawyer, I was going to go to you earlier, but I didn't have the time.
Tonia gave the papers to Hondo, he skimmed through the papers, at the bottom shows her signature consenting to allowing Hondo guardianship. Hondo looked at Tonia.
She glance one last time, walked back to the her car
Tonia: (turns to Hondo one last time) Take care of him, he trusts you.
Hondo stood there silently as he watched Tonia drive away from the house, he entered into the house contemplating what just happened.
Darryl: What happened?
Hondo: Nothing, what are you doing today?
Darryl: I don't think much, why do you ask?
Hondo: Let's go to the carnival today, I'm in the mood for some fish sticks.
Darryl: Hell ya!
Hondo went over to the kid and squeezing him really hard
Darryl: Hondo you squeezing me!
Hondo: Sorry I just love you alot kiddo
Darryl: I love you too Hondo, but can you stop squeezing me!
Hondo shuffled the kid's hair and smiled he was glad to have the kid, after everything that happened. It was the best thing to happen through it all.
