(Lynna's P.O.V)

School was hell for me. Absolute torture. I guess I was being a tad bit dramatic. The truth is- Edward Cullen was making it hell for me. Aside from his constant glaring and rude remarks, school was tolerable. Edward Cullen didn't speak to me for the most part, but when he did, he was the furthest thing from friendly. He was hateful and brooding and just an all-around jerk.

His sister, Alice, was wonderful though. She and I were getting along great. I had a feeling we would become close friends in the future. And Emmett was hilarious. It was hard to be in a bad mood around him with his joyful demeanor. Clearly, Edward Cullen's bad attitude hadn't rubbed off on his adopted siblings. Alice had mentioned to me that they were all adopted. The only ones that were related were Rosalie and Jasper Hale; they were twins. I knew Alice and Jasper were together and so were Emmett and Rosalie. They received a few judgmental stares from several students due to the situation. Many of them thought it was weird that they were dating each other while living under the same roof.

"That's a sure-fire way to ensure teen pregnancy." Ashley Tipton whispered to Natasha Bellamy during study hall on Friday.

They were both on the cheerleading team. Ashley was the captain, leading the rest of the squad with an iron fist and steely stares. No one messed with Ashley. Natasha nodded in agreement before they both snickered to themselves.

I narrowed my eyes in their direction. As if they had the right to judge anyone. I shook my head in annoyance before I turned my attention back to my chemistry notes. Noah and Paige were sitting across from me. They were, per usual, passing a note back and forth. Every once in a while, Paige would sign something to him. When she did, his entire face lit up like a Christmas tree. The sight warmed my heart.

All of a sudden, I felt his burning eyes on me causing me to shift uncomfortably in my seat. He hadn't said a word to me all day- not even to make a snide remark. I refused to make eye contact with the rude boy as I forced myself to focus on my studies.

"Hey, girlie." Alice grinned as she sat down in the chair beside me.

She was hand in hand with Jasper, who quickly sunk into the seat next to his girlfriend. He offered me a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Hey." I smiled back at the both of them.

She placed her elbows on the table and rested her chin in her hands. "So, are you going to the bonfire Saturday?"

I was quick to shake my head. "No. I don't.. fare well with.. fires."

I shuddered at the memory. To my dismay, the brooding Edward Cullen casually sat down in the empty seat to my right.

**(3rd P.O.V)**

Edward wasn't sure what possessed him to sit next to the human girl. His curiosity, perhaps? Did he want to feel included in the private conversation? Or maybe he just wanted to make her feel uncomfortable? Lynna stared at him with fire dancing in her blue orbs and a frown playing on her lips.

Alice narrowed her eyes at him. Seriously? She thought.

Edward almost smiled at his sister's annoyance. He decided that it was, indeed, his curiosity that pushed him to sit next to the girl.

"Why don't you 'fare well' with fires?" Edward asked in a low, casual voice.

Lynna's jaw went slack. Was the jerk with staring problems really asking her that?

"That's none of your business, Cullen," she sneered as she glared at him.

Alice was glaring as well. "She's right. It is none of your business."

Edward rolled his eyes at the both of them. "Whatever," he grumbled bitterly before leaning back in his seat.

Noah and Paige looked up from their notes with quizzical expressions. Edward started glowering at the golden-haired girl, trying, in vain, to sift through her hushed thoughts. Once again, his head started throbbing. He was livid. Why couldn't he read her mind?! And since when could vampires get migraines?!

Stop glaring at her. That's so rude! Alice scolded him.

The mind-reader paid her no mind. Lynna was becoming self-conscious under his stare. She could feel her anxiety rising.

"I can't do this," she whispered angrily as she pushed herself away from the table, scooting the chair against the floor.

As she stood up, she bumped right into Ashley, who stumbled back. Lynna grabbed Ashley by her forearm to steady her. As she did, Lynna's eyes went wide and a blank expression fell across her face as she stared into the distance. Alice immediately knew what was happening- she was having a vision. Edward watched the human girl with intrigued eyes.

In the vision, there was blood. So much blood. She could hear muffled sounds in the distance; it was laughter. Through the trees, she could see a fire. The bonfire. As she looked to the ground, trying to find where the trail of blood led, she saw her- Ashley. Her face was ashen. Her brown eyes were open and lifeless. She was lying in a pool of her own blood; her red hair was splayed around her like a bloody halo.

As Lynna came to, her grip on Ashley's arm tightened. The cheerleader scowled as she tried to shake the psychic off.

"Let go of me, freak," she sneered.

Lynna's eyes were wide with panic. Jasper picked up on her nerves causing Edward to stiffen. The mind-reader was immediately at her side as he took in her aghast expression. He wasn't sure why but he felt panicked as well. The numbness he was accustomed to gave way to stress; anxiety.

"Lynna?" Edward spoke her name almost softly.

The girl blinked rapidly before she locked eyes with Ashley. She placed both of her hands on either arm of the bewildered cheerleader.

"Ashley, you have to listen to me." Her voice was low and serious.

The red-head's face twisted in confusion. Lynna inhaled a shaky breath before continuing, "You can't go to the bonfire. Whatever you do, don't go."

(Lynna's P.O.V)

Bile rose in my throat as I looked up at Ashley's disbelieving face. Her jaw went slack before she narrowed her eyes at me.

"Why not?" She challenged.

I shook my head frantically, desperate for her to believe me. "You just... can't." My voice was pleading.

Her eyes narrowed even more before she brushed me off and took a step back. She folded her arms across her chest and scoffed.

"Why? So you can have Tyler all to yourself? That's not going to happen." The bitterness in her voice was undeniable.

I felt my eyes widen. Everyone at the table was staring at us, watching the encounter with curiosity. In my frantic state, I almost didn't notice that Edward Cullen was standing to my left; his permanent scowl seemed a bit softer than usual. His face was less harsh as he looked between me and Ashley. Alice stood up and hurried to the other side of me.

"What? What are you talking about? No-" Before I could finish my sentence, she cut me off.

"I see the way he looks at you. I'm not an idiot. But you're not going to steal him away from me like you did Grayson. That's not going to happen." She spoke through clenched teeth.

What? What in the world was she talking about? I was taken aback.

"Ashley." I was at a loss for words. "I.. really don't know what you're talking about."

She scowled. "Sure, you don't. You think you can just go around dazzling anyone you want, turning them into lovesick puppies. Well, you can't. I won't let you have him," she threatened with fire dancing in her eyes.

I almost laughed out loud at that. My mouth practically hit the floor. "Tyler is all yours, if that's what you're worried about. You can have him."

She was shooting daggers my way. "I don't believe you."

She started to turn to walk away causing panic to surge through me once again. I had to make her listen to me!

"Ashley, please! You have to listen to me!" I begged.

"Why on earth would I do that? I'm going to that bonfire. I'm not going to let you try to scare me away. I don't believe in those little visions of yours," she stated firmly.

I ran a hand through my hair out of exasperation. To my surprise, Edward Cullen was glowering at Ashley. It was odd seeing him glare at someone that wasn't me. Alice wore a look of sympathy as she met my gaze for a split second before I faced Ashley once again.

Something snapped within me. If I didn't tell her the truth, there was no way she would listen. My voice was low and haunting when I spoke, "If you go... You won't come back."

Something flashed in her brown eyes. Fear? Disbelief? She was quick to compose herself as she shook her head slowly and said in a perfectly calm voice, "You're such a freak."

Before I could say anything else, she spun on her heels and walked away, leaving me dumbfounded. I slumped my shoulders in defeat and sighed. What was I going to do? I couldn't just stand by and let the girl die.

"Are you okay?" Alice's kind voice pulled me from my thoughts.

I nodded once, not wanting to pull anyone down with me. "I'm fine."

As I turned to sit back down, to my surprise, Edward had pulled my chair out for me and was waiting patiently for me to claim it. I furrowed my brows in confusion before I obliged. He and Alice took their seats on either side of me. Noah wore a concerned frown as he met my gaze. Paige wore a matching expression.

What did you see? Noah asked me.

I looked around the table nervously. I was hesitant to speak about my weirdness around my new friends as I didn't want to scare them off. Edward Cullen certainly wasn't my friend, but I was leerier to talk about it around him than the others. Not that I was worried I would scare him away; I just didn't want to hear his snide remarks.

Alice spoke up beside me and signed, "You can tell us."

My mouth fell open in surprise, as did Noah's. She knew how to sign?!

You know how to sign? Noah questioned in shock.

She grinned and nodded. "Yes. We all can. Right, Edward?"

I didn't miss the sharp look she gave her adopted brother. He rolled his eyes and nodded once before his midnight skies connected with mine. I gulped around the sudden lump that had formed in my throat under his gaze. Jasper leaned forward and offered me a sincere smile before I felt a wave of calmness engulf me.

"So, what happened?" Alice asked as she signed so that Noah wouldn't have to focus so much on reading lips.

I opened my mouth to speak. I felt that I could trust Alice. I felt entirely comfortable with her, but Edward Cullen had the opposite effect. He continued to stare at me intently. I noticed that his eyes weren't filled with hatred like I had grown accustomed to. They were now overflowing with a newfound curiosity. His perfectly innocent gaze had me ill at ease. My stomach churned anxiously. A hand on my shoulder distracted me from my nerves. I looked up into the joyful eyes of my brother.

"Hey, Dustin," I greeted him with a faux smile.

He grinned as he walked around the table and sat down beside Paige, putting him directly in front of Jasper. He pulled a notebook from his bag and looked at me quizzically.

"What happened with you and Ashley? She's pissed," he chuckled at the last part.

"Nothing," I grumbled bitterly.

He raised his brows. "Didn't look like nothing. I heard her telling her friends that you've got your sights set on Tyler."

A surge of anger flooded through me. "I do not. You know how I feel about Grayson. Why does everyone think I can just snap my fingers and forget that he ever existed?! Why does everyone expect me to go about my life as if nothing happened?! As if he isn't dead because of me! As if what we had meant nothing. And why in the absolute hell would anyone think I would go after his best friend like that?! Have they lost their mind?! Have you lost your mind to even entertain the idea?!"

Without realizing, my voice had gone up an octave. My eyes were bulging. I was practically panting in frustration after my monolog. Everyone at the table were looking at me with wide, mystified eyes. Dustin's jaw went slack.

"Sis, no. I never thought that. I was just telling you what they were saying, so you could be prepared for the rumors that she will, no doubt, spread." Dustin's voice was gentle, his tone understanding.

Something within me ripped open, revealing a deep, dark well that I threatened to fall into. I was teetering on the edge, testing its limits. All of a sudden, I could feel tears burning my eyes; tears that I wouldn't allow to fall. Without another word, I jumped up from my seat and all but ran out of the library.

(Edward's P.O.V)

I noticed the tears swimming in her sapphire orbs before she shot up from her chair and ran out of the library, desperate to escape. I felt a strange impulse course through me- the urge to follow her. I quickly shook it away, feeling disgusted with myself at the very idea. Her best friend, Noah, was quick to follow after her. His thoughts full of concern and grief for the girl. Paige furrowed her brows as she watched her crush run after another girl. Given her thoughts, she was worried about Lynna as well, but she couldn't stifle the jealousy she felt no matter how hard she tried.

Lynna's brother, Dustin, released a heavy sigh and slumped his shoulders. I thought she was finally starting to get better...

His thoughts intrigued me. Luckily, I didn't have to pry; Alice was going to do that all on her own.

"What was that about?" She asked the human boy.

Dustin's green eyes widened when he realized that he was being spoken to. He blinked rapidly before he collected himself.

"Oh, um. It's a long story," he said in a solemn voice.

He was nervous. Jasper sensed it and was able to calm the teenage boy down, so he would feel comfortable opening up to us.

"I'd love to hear it," Alice urged with bright eyes.

Judging by his thoughts, he was reluctant to tell us. He didn't feel as though it was his place to talk about the events surrounding his sister. In the end, he figured it would be better if we were told the truth. Apparently, there were false rumors circulating the school about Lynna.

He sighed. "I guess I should tell you before you guys hear it from someone else. I'll tell you what really happened. You can't listen to some of the cruel stuff these people are saying about her. It's all lies."

I found myself entirely focused on the conversation at hand. Dustin ran a hand through his shaggy brown hair before he spoke again, "So.. My sister is sort of psychic. I know what you're thinking- Crazy, right? But it's true. She's been this way her whole life. For as long as I can remember. When she was younger, she thought nothing of it. None of us did. We just thought everything was a strange coincidence. Until last year.."

Alice leaned forward in her seat. Her thoughts were going a mile a minute; as were Jasper's. "What happened last year?" She asked in a whisper.

Sorrow filled Dustin's eyes. "Her boyfriend, Grayson.. He died." He sighed once more before continuing, "The Evans' were new in town. Grayson and Noah; they were brothers. When Grayson met Lynna, I don't want to say it was love at a first sight because that sounds totally outrageous, but that's kinda what it was, I guess. He was like a moth to the flame. My sister, well, she was kind of hard to get. She was like super focused on her studies. She never did give anyone the time of day until he came along. He liked the chase, I think. Every other girl was literally falling at his feet. I guess you could say he was fresh meat. We don't get a lot of that around here, so you guys better watch out." He laughed lightly.

Alice joined in on his laughter for a brief moment. I was antsy for him to continue the story, which he did without any urging.

"Anyways. Eventually, he won her over. They were pretty much inseparable after that. He was all about her, and she was all about him. I had never seen her so.. happy. She loved Grayson with everything she had. In the end, she couldn't save him. And that destroyed her."

"Save him from what?" Someone asked. Alice and Jasper looked at me with wide eyes; it was then that I realized that I was the one to ask the question.

"She... saw something. A vision. It was unlike any she had ever had before, so she wasn't sure what to make of it. She saw Grayson in a fire. She felt him burning. Then, everything would fade to black. She wasn't sure what it meant. None of us did at the time. But she was absolutely terrified for him. She knew that the bonfire was coming up. It was a tradition that the football players did every year when school started back. They would throw this huge bonfire for the team. Well, Lynna had this horrible feeling about the bonfire. She begged Grayson not to go. It was the day before his eighteenth birthday, so he and my sister were making plans for the following day. They were going to have the day to themselves before his birthday party that his family was throwing for him. Lynna.. she had written him a special song and everything. She was going to play it for him. Unfortunately, she was never able to."

My stomach twisted in knots as the story continued. He inhaled a shaky breath.

"Grayson went to the bonfire that night. I remember Lynna just pacing back and forth in the living room. Then, she had that same vision again. But it was different somehow. It was as if it was set in stone. She fell to the floor and just started screaming. When she came to, she immediately went after him. I drove her to the bonfire. The entire ride there, she was sobbing. She kept saying 'We're too late. We're too late'. When we arrived, the abandoned house was in flames. Everyone was freaking out. Tyler was the first one to notice us. He saw Lynna and immediately started crying. That's when she knew. She took off like lightning towards the fire. I didn't know she could run so fast. Tyler and I both tried to stop her, but by the time we reached her, she had disappeared into the fire. It took three football players to hold me back, to keep me from going in after her. You should have seen the fire. I knew there was no way anyone could survive that."

I saw the memory in his mind. Lynna ran into the burning house without even a thought for her own safety. She did, indeed, disappear in to the flames. I stiffened in my seat. I wanted to reach into the memory and go in after her. The urge to do so surprised me. Fear gripped me as I saw the fire through Dustin's eyes, even though I knew she was perfectly safe now. He was right- No one could survive that. But yet she had?

"How.. How did she survive? What happened?" Alice asked curiously.

He shrugged his shoulders. "I really don't know. By the time the fire department arrived, the house was in ruins. Only ashes remained." Tears welled up in his eyes at the memory. In that moment, he had truly believed he had lost his sister forever. "I-I thought she was gone. Like I said, there was no way anyone could have survived that."

His brows knitted together in thought as he stared down at the table for a moment. He slowly looked up and continued, "Somehow, she did. We found her in the woods. She was propped up against a tree; unconscious. Completely covered in soot, from head to toe. But she was alive. She didn't have a burn on her. She was completely unscathed. Physically, at least."

Alice blinked slowly, absorbing the information. "How?" She questioned.

Jasper, too, was entirely invested in the story. Dustin shook his head and shrugged.

"I have no idea. Neither does she. She passed out in the house due to the smoke. She said the last thing she remembers was everything fading to black as the fire burned around her. Then, she woke up in the hospital," he explained in a faraway voice.

That doesn't make any sense. I pinched the bridge of my nose as I absorbed the information. Alice and Jasper were both as confused as I was. Paige was simply in awe.

"She's very lucky," Paige whispered.

Dustin visibly grimaced. "Don't let her hear you say that. A part of her did die in that fire. She hasn't been the same since. She's a shell of who she used to be. She's good at hiding it, but she's miserable."

"I can't imagine," Alice spoke in a soft voice. "She's strong though. I can tell. It will take time, but she will heal."

A sorrowful frown etched itself onto Dustin's face. "I hope you're right."

My sister offered the human boy a genuine smile. "I am. Your sister has a guardian angel looking out for her. That's how she survived. And that's also how she will overcome this."

The dark void in my chest started to ache around its hollow edges. It wasn't exactly painful; the ache was dull but it was enough to let me know that it was there. I couldn't help but feel a slight twinge of pity for Lynna.

(Lynna's P.O.V)

I slid down against my locker, melting into a puddle in the floor on the empty hallway. The tears I had been holding back were unleashed; a sob broke through my chest as the dam gave way. I wrapped my arms around my legs and took some deep breaths in an attempt to calm myself down. I felt a hand on my shoulder, causing me to lift my head and meet Noah's kind eyes. He knelt down in front of me before deciding to plop down on the dirty floor with me.

You okay? He asked with a concerned frown.

I shrugged. Okay as I can be. Some days it's harder than others. I guess this is one of those days.

He nodded in understanding. What did you see?

My eyes started stinging with tears once again. Ashley is going to die at the bonfire.

I was certain of my vision. Since Grayson's death, I didn't take them lightly. Noah's eyes grew to the size of saucers.

How? He questioned.

I sighed deeply. I saw her lying in a pool of her own blood. She was in the woods. I could see the fire through the trees and hear laughter. If she goes to that bonfire, she will die.

He visibly grimaced. She won't listen to you.

I know. But Tyler is the one hosting it this year. Maybe if I talk to him, he will cancel it all together? I suggested, feeling my brows pinch together in worry.

He pursed his lips. Doubtful. Even if he does, someone else will just host it.

I had already considered that possibility. Yeah. But they wouldn't be able to pull it together at the last minute. It would be postponed at the very least. Besides, I'm not exactly sure how these visions work yet. I think it's based on the person's decisions at the time. So many factors influence them. Perhaps even having the bonfire at a different location will cause the vision to be void.

He nodded in agreement and lifted one shoulder in a shrug. Maybe. It could work. But how are you going to convince Tyler?

Ask him nicely? What else could I do?

Good luck with that. He teased before standing up and offering me his hand.

Come on. Let's get back to the library. He signed with one hand as I placed my hand in his.

He pulled me to my feet before releasing his hold on my hand. I brushed off my sweatpants and nodded. Okay.

I was hesitant to return to my original seat next to Edward. I chewed on my lower lip anxiously as I considered it. Instead, I opted to sit next to my brother on the opposite side and end of the table, putting the maximum amount of distance as possible between us.

Edward Cullen appeared to be fixated on the grainy pattern of the table as I took my new seat next to Dustin. All of a sudden, his head jerked up and he locked eyes with me. His midnight eyes narrowed into slits. I shook my head in annoyance before averting my gaze, focusing on my brother instead.

"I'm sorry for snapping at you," I whispered.

He flashed me a huge grin. "Don't worry about it."

After school, I dropped Dustin off at home and changed into something professional before heading to Lakeview Grille. I decided to apply for the server position. I knew that Grayson wouldn't want me to sit around and let life pass me by. I had dreams; aspirations. He wouldn't want me to give up on life. It was time for something new. Getting a job was the start of that. Besides, I needed to start saving up if I ever planned on being on my own.

I inhaled deeply to calm my nerves before I stepped out of my car. I had on a pair of khakis and a light blue blouse with a matching blazer. It felt strange not having Grayson's hoodie covering my body. I stared at the hoodie that was folded neatly in the passenger seat and felt my heart ache before I closed the door. Of course, I didn't leave home without his hoodie. It was my safety blanket. He was my safety blanket.

I walked in to the grille and was greeted by a young brunette with smiling eyes.

"Sit wherever you'd like," she said before spinning on her heels and disappearing into the kitchen.

I hesitantly walked over to the bar where a dark-haired man was standing with his back to me. I was guessing he was the bartender.

"Excuse me, sir," I spoke softly, nervously.

When the man spun around, a gasp flew through my lips. "Tyler?"

A smirk sprung to his lips. "Hey, gorgeous."

I blinked rapidly; stunned. "What are you doing here?"

He raised his brows in amusement. "What does it look like I'm doing here?"

"Working," I muttered as my face heated up in embarrassment. "Are you the bartender?"

He chuckled lowly. He folded his arms across his chest and leaned against the bar. "Sometimes. Would you like a drink?"

There was a mischievous glint in his eyes as he waited for me to respond. He already knew my answer. "No," I was quick to say.

"Of course not. You never do. So... Innocent." His smirk grew.

I shifted my weight awkwardly from one foot to the next. There was weight behind his words; I knew that. When I didn't respond, he took it upon himself to continue, "So, what can I get you? Onion rings? Cheese fries?"

"Um. I'm actually looking for a job," I told him.

His eyes grew in surprise. He clapped his hands down on the tabletop in excitement before he beamed, "You're hired!"

I furrowed my brows. "Wh-What? Are you the manager?"

He rolled his eyes. "My parents own the joint. You didn't know that?"

I shook my head slowly. "No, actually. I didn't. Since when?"

His expression turned solemn. "About a year now."

That would explain why I didn't know. The past year I had been nothing but a hollow shell of a person. "Oh."

"Want to start tomorrow after school?" He asked with a smile, trying to lighten the sudden damp mood.

I nodded. "Yeah. That'd be great," I paused before continuing, "There's actually something I need to talk to you about as well."

I needed to ask him, beg him, to cancel the bonfire. I was planning on talking to him about it tomorrow, but if I could go ahead and get that over with, I was certainly going to.

"Great. Uh, can it wait until tomorrow? We have a party of twelve coming in."

"Sure," I said before turning to leave. "And thanks. For the job."

He flashed me a genuine smile. "You're welcome. You look great by the way. I hardly recognized you dressed like that."

I returned the smile, though mine didn't quite reach my eyes. "Thanks, Ty."
