(Edward's P.O.V)

"Don't you all look wonderful! Come in, come in," the kind woman ushered for us to come inside.

The second I stepped into the home, I was greeted with Lynna's sweet scent. It hung like a curtain in the air, the delectable aroma making my mouth water. Christie, Lynna's mother, stood up from the couch and looked each of us up and down.

Wow. She thought as she appraised Emmett's stature, her eyes widening before they landed on me.

"Edmund. It's good to see you again," she said to me with a bright smile.

Edmund? Emmett quirked a brow while Jasper and Rosalie smirked.

I proffered the good-intentioned woman a smile. "You too," I said politely.

Alice rounded the corner in that moment and flitted to Jasper's side, planting a quick kiss on his cheek. They exchanged their corsage and boutonniere before he wrapped his arm around her waist. Alice's dress was lavender, matching Jasper's tie.

Lynna's grandmother looked at me with curious eyes, staring at my tie with a thoughtful expression. She took note that my tie was the same shade as Lynna's dress.

It was then that she appeared at the top of the staircase, looking like an ethereal being as she elegantly glided down the stairs. She quite literally took my breath away. Her hair was pinned in an intricate updo with curls framing her face in a delicate manner. Her deep blue eyes were dancing vibrantly, appearing to glow and twinkle like twin stars. Her light blue dress hung to the floor, hugging her body sensually, accentuating her perfectly cinched waist. There was a slit in the front of her dress, exposing her toned legs and matching heels. What really had me seeing stars was the way the dress exposed the round curvature of her breasts. The dress hung off of her shoulders, leaving her sun-kissed skin exposed. Her neck, her shoulders, her collarbone, her cleavage. My jaw hit the floor despite my best efforts to keep from doing so.

Bro. I know I say this a lot, but you're literally drooling, Emmett teased via his thoughts, but he was being quite serious.

I instinctively reached up to wipe my mouth. He was right— I had been drooling. Lynna walked over to us, completely bypassing me to stand next to Alice. Leah looked each of us over, taking note that we were each paired up, aside from Lynna and myself. Christie noticed the same, but her thoughts had taken a different turn.

"Lynna, I thought you said you didn't have a date," Christie stated with narrowed eyes as she placed her hands on her hips.

Christie looked from her daughter to me, raising her brows in delight. Lynna's cheeks blushed a delicious shade of red, flavoring the air.

"Oh, um. No. Edward isn't my date," she was quick to say.

"Well, these two match," she gestured to Emmett and Rosalie before turning to Alice and Jasper, "And these two match." She then looked between me and Lynna. "And you two match. Don't tell me that was just a coincidence."

Lynna narrowed her sapphire eyes at me suspiciously as she eyed my powder blue bow-tie which just so happened to be the same exact shade as her dress. Emmett placed his hand over his mouth, his shoulders shaking with silent laughter. Alice, too, was eyeing my tie with narrowed eyes.

You wore that on purpose, didn't you? She accused via her thoughts.

I couldn't stop the smirk that sprung to my lips, which she took as the answer to her question.

That's what I thought. She wasn't amused in the slightest.

"It's just a strange coincidence," Lynna spoke in a sickeningly-sweet voice, flashing me the fakest of smiles.

"Nonsense!" Christie laughed. "No need to be shy. I, as your mom, approve. Now go stand beside your date so I can get a picture."

Leah, who was standing off to the side, walked towards Christie and said, "Christie, honey. They probably need to get going."

"They have time to take a few pictures. Lynna, go stand with Edmund," she said as she held her phone up, ready to capture a photo.

Lynna breathed out a sigh, her face turning red out of frustration.

"His name is Edward," she spoke through clenched teeth. "And he isn't my date. Tyler is."

I clenched my fists involuntarily at the sound of his name. The smirk was wiped clean off of my face, a scowl quickly taking its place.

"Tyler? As in the same Tyler that used to bully you?" Leah asked her granddaughter with a concerned frown.

My eyes widened at the newfound knowledge.

"We bullied each other. It was a mutual thing. And it's no big deal," Lynna blurted out, her cheeks reddening even further.

Her grandmother started sifting through memories in her mind. A young Lynna crying after school, day after day.

"He broke your wrist!" Leah exclaimed in horror.

I was seeing red at the thought. My jaw clenched. If this was true, the boy wouldn't be safe around me.

"Mamaw, that wasn't his fault. That was the tire swing. I should have tapped out," Lynna explained with a sheepish smile.

Now, I needed context. I tilted my head in curiosity as I stared at the blushing girl.

"Well, regardless, he isn't here. Edward is. And you aren't leaving until I snap a picture of you two," her mother said, flashing me a cheeky grin and a wink.

Lynna stood there, unmoving, with her mouth agape. Christie gave me a pleading look.

"Edward, cutie. Will you please go stand beside Lynna since she is too preoccupied to follow simple instructions?" She asked me.

I could tell by her thoughts that she wasn't going to take no for an answer. If we ever wanted to leave, we would be forced to take a picture together.

My siblings each wore a smug smile as I sauntered over to Lynna, standing directly beside her. Our arms were nearly touching, but not quite. Still, every hair on my body stood up on end due to the proximity. I swore I could see an electrical current flowing between us.

Lynna was wearing a horrified expression which only intensified when her mother said, "Edward, wrap your arm around her waist. You two are acting like you're afraid of each other, for goodness sakes."

Emmett snickered quietly at my expense. Lynna was absolutely fuming; I could tell by her red face. With a shaky sigh, I reluctantly wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her against my side. The simple gesture sent a shockwave straight through, settling in the pit of my stomach. The feel of her pressed against my side, of my arm around her small waist, had me seeing double. She was so warm and petite nestled against me. Her heart was hammering wildly in her chest— No doubt, out of anger.

Emmett continued to snicker quietly at my expense while the others watched with curious eyes. Jasper sent a calming wave our way, causing us both to instantly relax. Until then, I hadn't realized how tense we both were.

"Smile," Christie demanded sternly as she held her phone up.

A forced smile flitted to Lynna's lips that didn't quite reach her eyes. I mimicked her expression, though I was sure mine looked more like a grimace. The second she snapped the photo, Lynna ripped herself from my side and scurried over to the doorway, desperate to escape from me.

"Awww. You two look so cute together," Christie said with a satisfied smile that fell when she noticed her daughter's red face.

I couldn't help but feel a bit smug at her comment.

"Oh, come on. It wasn't that bad," she said to her before turning to me and my siblings and laughing. "I always called her my little Tinkerbell when she was growing up because her face always gets so red when she's upset. Just like Tink's."

I couldn't help but smile at that information. It was certainly fitting.

"Okay, we're leaving now," Lynna stated sternly, ignoring her mother's amused smile.

She stormed out the door, followed closely by Alice and Jasper who said their farewells to Christie and Leah.

Christie caught my eye and walked over to me as I was stepping outside. "Just so you know, I'm totally Team Edward."

She winked and my mouth fell open. Judging by her thoughts, she believed Lynna and I had 'the hots' for each other.

"Um, thanks," I mumbled awkwardly before turning to Leah. "It was good seeing you all again."

"You too. Watch over our girl tonight, will you? I don't trust that Tyler fella," Leah said with a frown.

"I will," I assured her in full sincerity, flashing her a genuine smile.

Emmett smiled broadly as he stepped out with Rosalie. I followed them to the limo and started shaking my head at Emmett's incessant thoughts.

"Team Edward, huh?" He teased with a chuckle as he opened the door for Rosalie who was rolling her eyes at her mate.

"What?" Lynna heard his comment, rushing over with a horrified expression.

"It's nothing," I spoke through clenched teeth, shooting Emmett a threatening stare.

My brother chuckled before he got in the limo, leaving me and the curious girl standing next to the door. My gaze fell to her chest before I caught myself. Now certainly wasn't the time to be lusting after her— No matter how tempting she looked with the round curvature of her breasts exposed.

I swallowed hard against the sudden lump that had formed in my throat as I held the door open for her.

"Ladies first," I flashed her a smirk, feigning nonchalance.

She narrowed her eyes at me before she obliged, stepping into the limo with grace that I didn't know a human could possess. The seating arrangement was just as I had anticipated. A look of horror fell across her face as she came to the realization that she would be stuck sitting next to me. I was biting back a smile due to the fact.

I casually sat down next to her, but the feelings coursing through me were anything but casual. I could feel the heat radiating off her body, wrapping around me and warming the right side of my body. Her sweet scent enveloped me, daring me to come closer.

My eyes drifted to her neck that was perfectly exposed. I couldn't help but imagine trailing my lips down the soft, smooth skin of her neck; hovering over her carotid pulse and allowing my tongue to dart across her flesh. I would kiss every inch of her exposed skin, tracing her collarbone with my tongue, leading down to her cleavage.

How easy it would be to have her breasts fully exposed— All it would take was for one of those satin straps to fall. God, I wanted her.

"Edward," Alice's voice pulled me from my sensual thoughts. I quirked a brow at her before she continued, "Trade seats with me."

I locked eyes with her and couldn't stop the smirk that sprung to my lips. I shot a quick glance at the blushing girl beside me, causing my smirk to grow before I faced Alice, "No, I don't think I will."

My sister's brows flew up her forehead and her mouth fell open. Her eyes narrowed into slits. Why am I not surprised?

I rolled my eyes at her comment. She thought I refused her request to get under her skin. Lynna sighed, shifting as far away from me as possible. I pursed my lips at her before my eyes, once again, fell to her breasts. I watched as her chest rose and fell with each breath she took. My eyes then trailed up her neck; landing on her carotid pulse. I watched the blood pulsing beneath her sun-kissed skin. My mouth filled with venom at the sight. Still, the lust I felt for her in general far outweighed the bloodlust.

I longed to place my lips against her fleshy neck, feeling her shiver beneath my kiss. My eyes then trailed up to her lips. She had on a neutral shade of lipstick that was a few shades darker than her natural lips. I eyed those lips of hers longingly, wishing to ruin that lipstick.

You've got it bad bro. Damn, Emmett teased via his thoughts, causing my head to snap in his direction.

(Lynna's P.O.V)

"Shut up, Emmett!" Edward shouted out of nowhere, his voice laced with anger, causing me to jump.

I was already on edge as it was with him sitting mere inches from me. My head swiveled towards Edward, my heart racing in my chest.

Emmett opened his mouth to speak but I beat him to the punch. "He didn't even say anything!" I snapped, glaring at him.

Edward locked eyes with mine, his ember eyes darkening instantly.

"Stay out of it, Holloway. This doesn't concern you," he stated sternly, though his voice lacked the harshness that was directed towards his brother.

"Does it not?" Emmett asked in a mocking tone, folding his arms across his chest.

"Why are you always picking on him?" I asked Edward with a deep frown.

His jaw dropped. His brows flew up his forehead in clear surprise. "Me picking on him?!"

I noticed that Emmett had placed his hand over his mouth, trying to cover up his smile. Rosalie was smirking as she leaned her head against his shoulder while Alice and Jasper exchanged smug smiles.

"Yes. You do it all the time." I jutted my chin, daring him to contradict me.

Edward let out a low, rumbling laugh that caused my lower stomach to clench in an unfamiliar fashion. He shook his head, grinning crookedly as he tilted his head to look at me.

"You really have no idea what you're talking about," he chuckled.

"You bully him." I frowned, annoyed by his amusement.

"Yeah, Edward. You're a bully," Emmett taunted him.

His head shot in his brother's direction once more, the amusement vanishing from his face. "Emmett, so help me!" His voice went up an octave.

Emmett threw his head back against the seat and let out a booming laugh, his shoulders shaking violently. His laughter was contagious, so everyone aside from Edward, joined in. My own laughter flew past my lips, my giggles worsening when Edward's head swiveled in my direction and I noticed his annoyed expression.

As we pulled up to the school, the grin on Alice's face couldn't be contained.

"Everyone grab your masks!" She exclaimed before donning her sequined mask that matched her dress perfectly.

Everyone, including me, followed suit. Edward pursed his lips and furrowed his brows. Alice narrowed her eyes at him.

"Edward, where is your mask?" She asked sternly.

He shrugged. "I.. don't have one."

She folded her arms across her chest. I couldn't help but smile at the exchange. Her disapproval was written all over her face.

"This is a masquerade dance, which you would know if you hadn't decided to come at the very last minute. Shame on you," she scolded him with a frown.

His lips twitched, clearly fighting back a smile before he held his hand out to her, as if he was waiting for her to hand him something. She shot him a glare before pulling a black mask out of her purse and handing it to him.

"Luckily for you, I knew this would happen," she said with a tight-lipped smile as he took the mask from her.

"Of course you did," he mumbled with a small smile of his own.

I couldn't help but notice how his features lit up when the faint smile sprung to his lips.

I couldn't help but smile as Tyler twirled me around. My eyes fell to Noah who had a hold of Paige's hand as he tried to show her how to properly sign something. They were smiling at each other like two lovesick puppies and I found it absolutely adorable. My best friend deserved to be happy; Paige was good for him.

"You look beautiful, by the way," Tyler said for the umpteenth time that night, dropping my hand as the song ended.

"Thanks, Ty." I blushed at the comment.

A warm smile played on his face. "Do you want some punch?"

I found myself nodding. "Yeah. That'd be great."

As Tyler walked away, I could no longer ignore the pair of familiar eyes that had been burning a hole in my back for the majority of the night. Edward was standing in the far corner of the gym with a haunting look decorating his face. His eyes were narrowed in my direction. I pursed my lips at him before my gaze fell to Marty Webb who was leaning against the wall several feet away from the brooding Cullen. Marty had his head hung low, his shoulders slumped forward as if he was dejected. I shot a quick glance at Tyler who was talking to Brittany Hoyle beside the punch bowl. He had on his 'flirty smile'. With my 'date' preoccupied flirting with a cheerleader, I found myself heading in Marty's direction.

Edward visibly stiffened as I approached. No doubt, he thought I was approaching him. I stifled an eye-roll at that. I bypassed Cullen and couldn't help but smirk when I noticed his eyebrows fly up his forehead in clear surprise.

"Hey, Marty," I greeted the depressed-looking boy with a friendly smile.

Marty's head shot up and his mouth fell open. A blush crept to his cheeks as he responded, "L-Lynna. Hey."

I tilted my head to the side, studying his face before asking, "Are you enjoying the dance?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "It's alright, I guess. Spencer seems to be having a blast."

His eyes trailed to Spencer Higgins, his best friend, who was dancing it up with Mya Saunders, a spunky junior from drama club. He released a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping.

An idea occurred to me. "Wanna dance?"

His eyes lit up. "R-Really?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Come on."

"Your date won't get mad?" He asked a bit skeptically.

"Definitely not. Tyler and I just came together as friends," I assured him.

I could feel Edward's eyes on us as I pulled Marty to the dance floor. An upbeat song was playing. I took Marty by the hands and started twirling around him in a playful manner. Laughter bubbled from my chest at his bewildered expression.

"Loosen up, Marty!" I said between fits of laughter.

The nervous boy slowly started loosening up. He was bobbing his head in time with the beat as a joyous grin broke out across his face. Before I knew it, he was dancing right along with me; his laughter rang out, mingling with mine.

"I like your dress. You look really pretty tonight,' Marty said with blushing cheeks.

I couldn't help but smile at the bashful boy. "Thanks, Marty. You look very handsome in your tux."

His blushing intensified, causing my smile to grow. He seemed so sweet and tender-hearted.

(Edward's P.O.V)

I couldn't take my eyes off of her despite my best efforts. She looked absolutely stunning on the dance floor. The disco lights bounced off her sun-kissed skin, making her appear to glow in the most mesmerizing way. A pang of envy pierced through me as I watched her dancing with Marty. I could tell she was enjoying herself. Her musical laughter filled my ears, causing a strange sensation to overtake me.

She continued dancing with the blushing boy until the jovial song ended. Marty's thoughts were entirely innocent when it to Lynna, but I still felt fury course through my veins when she kissed his blushing cheek. I watched as she excused herself before making her way outside. Her date, Tyler, was still too preoccupied flirting with Brittany to notice that his 'date' had entirely left the building. My siblings were all dancing it up, spinning and twirling about in an elegant manner that made the humans around them feel slightly uneasy.

Before I even realized it, my feet were carrying me out the door, heading in the same direction as Lynna. Why do I do this to myself? What is wrong with me? Her scent hung in the air, dancing on my tongue and causing that unyielding burn to ignite in my throat and lungs. Her delectable scent led me straight to her- She was standing under a white gazebo that was encased in twinkling lights. The speakers from the gym were connected to a small speaker that someone had hidden among a pot of flowers beside the gazebo. The night sky was full of brightly dancing stars. It was a clear night, so the full moon was shining down, acting like a spotlight as it glowed against the pond that the gazebo was overlooking.

Lynna was leaning against the railing with her face in her hand as she stared out at the starry night. She looked picturesque against the darkness of the sky, appearing to glow like the moon itself with her pale blue dress and sun-kissed skin. I silently approached her from behind, listening to the steady sound of her heart beating.

I cleared my throat to make her aware of my presence. She stiffened before slowly turning to face me. Her features twisted in obvious annoyance when she saw me. Stray golden tendrils were framing her face in the most delicate, elegant manner. Her rosy lips parted slightly, as if inviting me. Listen to myself! How absurd!

Despite not being particularly fond of the human girl, I couldn't deny the strong attraction I felt towards her. I may not be human, but I am a man. And she was a devastatingly beautiful girl. How could I not notice her beauty when it was so blinding?

"What do you want, Cullen?" Annoyance was dripping from her voice.

I couldn't help but smile. Getting under her skin was second nature to me.

"Just getting some fresh air," I said with a casual shrug of my shoulders.

She narrowed her eyes at me suspiciously before she resumed leaning against the railing with a faraway look in those blue eyes of hers. I hesitantly walked over to lean against the railing with her. My eyes followed hers to a tea light that was floating on a lily pad in the middle of the pond.

"What happened to your date?" I asked, trying to hide the bitterness in my voice.

I wasn't looking at her but I could practically feel the eye roll. "He's not exactly my 'date', but he seems to be busy flirting with Brittany Hoyle."

I chuckled dryly at that. "Good for him," I mumbled.

Her eyes snapped to me. I glanced at her and had to bite back a smile.

"You had your chance with her, Cullen, and you blew it. No point in being jealous now," she quipped, causing my jaw to drop.

I couldn't help but scoff. "I'm not jealousover her, Holloway. Don't be ridiculous."

"Could have fooled me," she muttered under her breath, earning an eyeroll from me.

"I'm not," I stated sternly, studying her face before I asked, "Are you?"

I watched as her mouth fell open in clear surprise. She looked at me with a befuddled expression. "Me?"

"Yes, Holloway. Are you jealous that your date ditched you for her?" I questioned with a quirked brow.

Now it was her turn to scoff. She shook her head and chuckled wryly. "No, Cullen. I'm not jealous."

A smirk sprung to my lips at her defensive tone. "Oh, yeah? Then, why are you out here sulking?" I challenged, knowing that my comment would get under her skin.

She pursed her lips in frustration. "I'm not sulking. I'm actually getting some fresh air. Unlike you- Who just came out here to stalk me."

I couldn't stop the scowl that overtook my face. "I'm not stalking you. Don't flatter yourself."

I watched as a seductive smirk flitted her lips; she glanced down at my powder blue bow tie before locking eyes with me. Her smirk grew as she said, "Nice tie."

I knew what she was getting at. Was it simply a coincidence that my tie matched her dress? I'll admit that it wasn't, but I didn't choose to match with her for the reason she thought. I did it to get a rise out of her. Plain and simple.

"Nice dress," I countered back with a smirk that matched hers.

She released a heavy sigh. "Edward, why does your tie match my dress? Seriously?"

The sound of my first name leaving her lips blindsided me momentarily. She rarely called me be by my first name, but when she did, it sent a thrill straight through me.

"Why does your dress match my tie?" I shot back, my smirk growing when blood rushed to her cheeks.

"You're ridiculous," she muttered with a shake of her head.

The upbeat song that was playing through the speakers was nearing its end, I could tell. I locked eyes with her sapphire orbs and held my hand out to her.

"Dance with me," the words spilled from my lips without a second thought.

What was I thinking asking the infuriating girl to dance with me? Have I lost my mind?! Apparently so. Because all I could think about in that moment was how her body would feel pressed against mine. Shock fell across her face, her brows knitting together before her jaw hit the ground.

"You- You're serious?" She asked incredulously, looking around as if expecting to find a hidden camera.

I was quick to nod. "I am. Dance with me, Holloway."

I was all but demanding it at this point. She wearily looked down at my outstretched hand before meeting my eyes.

"Come on. There's literally no one else out here. It's not like anyone will see," I told her with a small smile.

She pursed her lips, appearing to be deep in thought, before saying, "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it still make a sound?"

I felt my brows knit together in confusion. What was she getting at?

"Huh?" I asked before shaking my head at her ridiculousness. "Just dance with me. Who cares if the tree makes a sound or not?"

She jutted her chin in a stubborn manner. "I care."

I couldn't stifle the eye-roll at her tone. "Dance with me," I spoke in a low, smooth voice.

I was feeling desperate and I had no idea as to why. She looked down at my hand once more before releasing a reluctant sigh. My heart could have soared when she placed her small hand in mine. My cold hand wrapped around her warm one, feeling a strange sensation course through me at the simple touch. Warmth flooded me and settled in my stomach as I pulled her from the railing.

Be More by Stephen Sanchez started playing through the speaker, as if to set the tone.

It must be more

Than I need you

More than I love you

Be more than wishes on stars

High above you

I placed one hand on her waist, my fingers wrapping around her slender frame and pulling her close to me. The gesture sent lightning straight through me as the warmth of her body enveloped me. Her heart picked up its tempo, as if playing along with the song.

If words could just hold you

I tightened my grip on her waist as we started swaying back and forth, finding our rhythm.

Tell me you feel me

Oh, just to know you

Tell me you see me

She stared up at me with a new emotion playing in the depths of her deep blue eyes— something I had yet to see in those sapphire orbs of hers, though I couldn't quite place what it was. I offered her a kind smile as a strange yet familiar feeling swelled within my chest.

I couldn't have said it

You must have just read it

In my eyes

Darling, please

I twirled her around the gazebo, causing a delighted giggle to fly through her lips. Surprisingly, I found myself laughing along with her. She was quite elegant on her feet for a human. In fact, she had no problem keeping up with me. She didn't stumble or trip over my feet once as we continued gliding across the wooden floor.

Let it be more

Be more

Be more

I was distinctly aware of how perfectly her warm body seemed to mold against mine— as if we were two halves of one whole. I know how ridiculous that sounds; I chalked it up to simply getting caught up in the moment, but I couldn't deny how wholly right it felt to have her in my arms like this. The hollow feeling I had grown accustomed to was replaced with pure joy as she threw her head back and laughed airily.

It must be more

Than I want you

More than I caught you

My eyes trailed to the fleshy skin of her throat, watching as her sweet-smelling blood swirled beneath the surface. Her delectable scent scorched my throat and lungs— setting them ablaze. But it wasn't the fire in my throat that had me worried— It was the fire in the pit of my stomach from having her pressed against me, her curves contouring against my body made of stone. Her soft breasts were crushed against my solid chest, causing me to shudder as sensual thoughts took hold. Passion burned through my veins, settling in my core and igniting an ache in my groin that was dying to be satiated.

Be more than dancing in raindrops

Falling to touch you

Woah, just to touch you, oh

What I would give to actually touch her. Skin to skin. My naked body against hers. What a foolish, hormonal thought. If I was just a simple, human boy, a thought like that would be perfectly harmless. As a matter of fact, it would be expected. Being close to a beautiful girl like this would have that effect on most teenage boys. But I wasn't just a teenage boy. I wasn't human. And having such sensual thoughts about the human girl was downright dangerous. It was foolish and reckless on my end. But, my, how I yearned for her in the very way I could never have her.

If words could just hold you

Tell me you feel me

Oh, just to know you

Tell me you see me, yeah

My chest felt tight as we continued to dance, gliding effortlessly under the gazebo. The delighted smile never left her lips as we did so. My face mirrored hers— My own grin etching itself onto my lips. Why was I feeling this way? I don't even like the girl. She is the most annoying, aggravating, nuisance of a girl I've ever met. But was she really? Or had I simply convinced myself of those things?

Regardless, I didn't like her. I didn't have to have a logical reason as to why I wasn't fond of the girl. The way her scent and body sang to me was reason enough to despise her.

I couldn't have said it

You must have just read it

In my eyes

Let it be more

Be more

Be more

My hold on her tightened slightly as I attempted to unravel the many emotions coursing through me. I wasn't used to this. Being hollow— empty, I could handle. Being angry, I was used to. But this. What is this? Was it simply forbidden desire? Hatred is passionate— Was my hatred the root cause of my attraction for her? As quickly as I had the thought, I dismissed it. Deep down, I knew that I didn't actually hate the girl. Not even close. The only hatred I felt was directed towards myself.

If words could just hold you

Tell me you feel me

Oh, just to know you

Tell me you see me

My jaw clenched as my eyes filled with longing as I continued to stare down at the golden-haired girl. I glanced at her rosy lips, feeling my mouth fill with venom at the thought of kissing her. Her eyes of sapphire peered into mine, holding me prisoner in her gaze. I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to me, feeling that addicting electrical current surge through me at the contact. Her heart stuttered in her chest. I knew that this would be the last time I held her in my arms, and I wanted to savor every last second. But why? Why did this moment feel so monumental to me?

I couldn't have said it

You must have just read it

I inhaled a shaky breath as I reveled in the feel of her in my arms. I envisioned leaning down and trailing my lips down her neck, placing gentle kisses along her collarbone, leading down towards her breasts. In all my years, I had never experienced lust to this magnitude. It certainly wasn't like that with this she-who-shall-not-be-named. I don't even like this girl, so why does my groin ache at the thought of her?

As the song was nearing its end, I convinced myself that this would change nothing. These strange feelings coursing through me would cease to exist the second her warm body was no longer pressed against mine.

In my eyes

Darling, please

Let it be more

The second the song ended, she dropped her hands from me and took a step back, breaking the spell that we had both seemed to have fallen under. The second she was no longer in my arms, coldness swept through me. That same empty feeling I had grown accustomed to washed over me, but there was a strange edge to it. My body was still tingling where hers had been pressed against mine. I was feeling out of sorts, to say the least.

Blood pooled deliciously beneath her cheeks as she stared down at the ground, avoiding my gaze. She shyly tucked a stray, golden curl behind her ear and looked up at me from beneath her lashes in a timid, yet seductive fashion.

"Um. You're a wonderful dancer," she breathed out, blinking rapidly at me.

My lips twitched into a smile. "Thank you. You are as well."

Did that sound too formal? It totally did. I mentally slapped myself. Then, I mentally slapped myself again for even caring about how it sounded to begin with. I shouldn't care!

"I'm, uh—" She gestured towards the school, her blushing deepening, flavoring the air the most delicious flavor. "I should probably head back. Tyler will wonder where I ran off to," she mumbled.

Jealousy burned through my veins like wildfire when she spoke his name. I nodded curtly. "Right," I spoke around the sudden lump that had formed in my throat. "Enjoy the rest of the dance."

She pressed her lips into a thin line and met my burning gaze. "You too," she whispered before ripping her eyes from mine and swiftly heading towards the school.

I watched each step she took, wondering what in the hell I had gotten myself into.
