At last Delta squad had a mission: enter an abandoned warehouse to retrieve a series of old records. The place had been untouched since the first days of the war but after a month of booby trap related trooper injuries, republic command decided to give the mission to Delta squad…after waiting for Sparks and Lola to finish their scans. Whilst Lola began her final checks, Fixer was approached by Sparks.
"Delta-40. Could we...?" The words died in his throat.
"Yes, Gamma-75?" Fixer said formally. The pair became aware the whole squad was staring at them so they quickly went behind the gunship to talk privately.
Sparks took a deep breath before carrying out his duty.
"So, Delt-Fixer, I...I was wondering if you would like to go to this mini-shindig with me."
Fixer tilted his head in intrigue. "Min-dig? Yes, I would like to go with you.
"So I'll see you at 20:00 hours Fixer?"
"I'll see you then Sparks."
The two commandos smiled under their helmets before composing themselves and coming out from behind the gunship to rejoin the rest of the squad. Despite wearing full face helmets and remaining silent, Fixer could tell the whole squad was grinning at them. He mentally ordered them to shut up to no avail. He had no idea what they did but secretly he was grateful.
At this point Lola was 99% finished with her scan. Boss got ready to lead the squad inside.
"Right, looks like command was worried about nothing. Time to go in." Lola began running directly towards Boss before suddenly freezing and give a series of frightened bleeps. Fixer put his arm in front of Boss stopping him from moving forward.
"Wait, Boss. Lola's thinking about something."
"Well, I'll be sure not to tread in it. Thank you for protecting me, Fixer." Lola's bleeps became louder and quicker.
"She's found a hidden device." Sparks translated in astoundment, clearly not expecting to hear this.
Boss felt a chill in the pit of his stomach as he stared at the L0-series droid 6 feet in front of him. "That's…That's a bit close for comfort."
"OK, we've got to move back everyone." Fixer ordered.
Boss felt the L0-series droid brush against his leg before depositing a spare Electrostatic Charge Detonator at his feet. Boss leant down to her level.
"There's a good girl, well done, well done, Lola!" He cuddled the droid and began scratching her 'belly'. "Now all you need to do is use the sonic disruptor to neutralize the electr-" Lola tilted her head in confusion. "Tell you what, I'll do that."
Boss continued to pamper the droid. "Who's a good girl? A good girl!" Boss expressed his gratitude for the little droid that saved the lives of his squad. He looked over to her owner who was in a deep conversation with Fixer. Despite everything, Boss finally saw how Fixer truly felt about Sparks. Okay that decided it, Delta squad has a new mission: Make tonight the theme night to end all theme nights!
… just not in the same way that Jedi night nearly was.
