Chapter 7
Hi everyone! Hope you're enjoying this! I have the next couple chapters mostly done, but is there anything you all would want to see happen in this story? Let me know :)
"How about we go to Granny's for dinner tonight?" Snow suggested.
"No way!" Emma said. "I do not want anyone to see me like this."
Hanna nodded. "Yeah, maybe we should just stay here."
"Okay, that's fine," Snow said.
"What do you girls want for dinner?" David asked.
"Can we get pizza?" Hanna asked.
"Sure," Snow said. "I need to go to the store for a few things too, so I'll pick it up on my way home. I can take Neal with me. Are you good to stay home with the girls, Daddy?"
David nodded. "I think I can handle them."
"Okay, I'll be back soon," Snow reached over and gave him a kiss, then turned to the girls. "Be good, okay?"
"Okay, Mommy," Hanna said.
"Can you get sausage on the pizza?" Emma asked.
"Yeah, Em. I can do that."
"Thanks."
The girls watched their mom leave. They waited a few more seconds, just to be sure she was gone before giving each other a look. They knew exactly what they wanted to do while she was gone.
"Daddy?" Emma said in the sweetest voice she could muster.
"Yes, Emma?"
"Can we watch tv?"
"Your mom said not until before bedtime," David reminded them.
Hanna stood beside her sister and turned on the charm in her eyes. "Pretty please?"
"Yeah Daddy…pretty please?" Emma smiled up at him.
"Girls…don't do this to me." David had to close his eyes, because he knew he wouldn't be able to say no to those faces for long.
Emma reached up for his hand and began tugging on it. "Please, please, please."
Hanna started doing the same.
David looked down at his little girls and his heart just melted. He knew Snow didn't want them to watch anymore tv until later, but how could he say no to those faces? They might not be little for much longer, and he wanted to give them everything while they still were.
Emma and Hanna could tell he was going to crack.
"We promise we won't fight," Emma told him.
Hanna nodded. "I'll let Emma pick."
"And I won't pick anything scary," Emma added.
David sighed. "Alright fine. You can watch one show."
"Thank you!" the girls said at the same time. They each hugged one of his legs, then ran over to the couch.
Hanna found the remote and gave it to Emma. "Here you go."
"Thanks." Emma was just about to switch on the tv when she heard her phone start to ring. She put down the remote. "I'll be right back." She climbed up onto the barstool and reached out for her phone. Her eyes went wide when she saw that it was Killian calling.
David noticed the look on her face. "What is it, Em?"
Emma held out her phone to him. "Dad, I don't want to talk to him like this."
David shrugged. "That's okay. Just ignore the call and you can call him back once your big again."
"No…I don't want him to think something is wrong or that I'm mad at him…" Emma didn't know what to do. She put her face in her hands and started to cry.
"Hey, it's okay." David rubbed circles on her back.
Hanna noticed her sister was upset. She hopped down from the couch and ran over to her. She climbed up onto the barstool and sat next to her. "Emma, what's wrong?" When she didn't answer, Hanna looked up at her dad. "Why is she crying?"
"Killian tried calling her."
"Oh…"
"Come here, Em." David picked Emma up from the barstool. "Hanna, why don't you go take a turn picking a show while I talk to your sister, okay?"
Hanna nodded. "Okay." She stood up on the barstool and jumped.
"Hanna!" David reached out his other arm and caught her in midair. "I told you no more standing on the stools."
"Dad…" Hanna groaned.
David gently placed her on the ground. "If you do it again, you're going to be in trouble."
"Okay…" Hanna ran over to the couch and flipped through the channels until she found the cake show she liked.
David's heart about leapt from his chest when Hanna jumped. He took a deep breath and turned his attention back to Emma. He carried her over to one of the chairs and sat down with her in his lap. He lifted her chin so she was looking at him.
"I don't want to be little anymore," Emma told him.
"I'm sorry, honey." David brushed some of the hair from her face. "It won't last forever though."
"I know…"
David wiped a few tears from her cheeks. "You know Killian…he really cares about you. He's not going to mind that your toddler sized for a few days."
"I just don't want him to see me like this. I don't want anyone to see me. That's why Henry is staying at Regina's until this whole thing is over."
"Why don't you want anyone to see you?"
"I just…I feel too vulnerable like this. I'm not myself. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to just start crying at any moment or…throw a huge fit like Hanna. I feel so out of control and I just…I just want to be with you and mom right now." Emma leaned into her dad.
David wrapped his arms around her. "Okay, honey. If that's what you need, then that's what we're going to do. Your mom and I will be here with you through all of this."
"Thanks, Dad." Emma sat for a few minutes before she looked up at him again. "I don't want to just ignore Killian though. What should I do?"
"How about I call him and explain the situation?" David suggested.
"You would do that for me?"
"Emma, I would do anything for you," David said. "Do you want me to call him?"
Emma gave him a small smile and nodded her head.
"Okay," David stood and put Emma down. "Why don't you go watch tv with your sister while I call him."
"Okay." Emma ran over to the couch and sat down by Hanna.
"Are you okay?" Hanna asked.
"Yeah I'm good."
Hanna held out the remote to Emma. "Here, it's your turn."
Emma smiled. "Thanks." Emma flipped through the channels and decided to stop on old reruns of Family Feud. She looked over at her sister and grinned. "This isn't too scary, is it?"
Hanna rolled her eyes. "No…" She picked up the blanket from the floor and covered her and her sister with it.
David came into the room a few minutes later.
Emma reached her arms up to him.
David smiled and picked Emma up from the couch. He sat back down where she was sitting and held her on his lap. He placed a kiss on the top of her head. "It's all taken care of," he whispered.
"Thank you," Emma whispered back. She leaned back against him and refocused on the tv.
David covered himself and Emma with the blanket. He put his arm around Hanna, pulling her close, and watched the show with his girls.
