Hitoshi fidgets with the worn strap of his bag, glancing at the entrance to the daycare. He goes back to scrolling through his phone before glancing back up. Only his eyes show the worry and the amount of anxiety he was feeling.
"The train wasn't late today. We can go by the grocery store and get something for dinner. We can get home before she's there, but..." Hitoshi trails off as he mentally counts what was in his wallet. "I'll let them have dinner. I already ate lunch. But then I'll have to walk to school."
Hitoshi looks up again when he hears the doors to the daycare opening. He smiles softly when two purple blurs race out of the building. The caretaker shakes her head in exasperation and gives Hitoshi a wave.
The purple haired teenager gives a wave of his own before he crouches down. The two blurs sprint right into him, almost knocking him back on his ass.
"Hey there, little terrors. Did you have fun in school?" Hitoshi asks while signing at the same time.
Shinsō Himari smiles brightly up at her big brother and raises her arms. A bright hum leaves her mouth while she jumps up and down, her long lilac hair bouncing with the momentum.
Hitoshi smiles and grabs his three year old sister before lifting her up. She squeals in delight and immediately wraps her arms around his neck. The purple haired teenager crouches back down and lifts his three year old brother up.
"We had another adventure. Mary-sensei didn't like it," Himari signs with a cheeky grin. Hitoshi gives her a small look before looking over at Hayate.
"How big was this adventure?" Hayate watches Himari's hands as she signs the question to him. Hayate smiles and gives a small shrug.
"Got free ice cream." Hitoshi laughs at the statement, beginning to walk away and towards where they live.
"Well, as long as you didn't get in trouble, then have as many adventures as you want," Hitoshi states with a smile. His siblings always made his day, no matter what happened earlier to bring him down.
Hitoshi hums a small tune, looking both ways before crossing the street. "We're going by the store before we head home. Have any thoughts for dinner?"
"Fish! Fish!" Himari and Hayate sign at the same time, both smiling brightly. "We want fish!"
Hayate glances around and frowns. "What about her? Will she be home?"
"We'll have just enough to cook everything before she comes home," The purple haired teenager reassures with a tired smile. He sighs quietly and holds his siblings closer to his chest.
"I'll be a hero student soon. I have a test to pass," He continues with a change of subject. Himari squeals loudly and reaches up to hug her big brother's neck. Hayate hugs him as well, even if he couldn't hear what had just been said.
"Onīchan's gonna be a hero! Hero!" Himari signs in celebration. A wide grin breaks out on Hayate's face as he tightens his arms around Hitoshi's neck.
"Yeah... yeah I am." Hitoshi looks up, smiling with a light feeling in his chest.
"Three more years... three more years and I can save you two... but why–" He cuts his thoughts off and forces them out of his mind. He can't think like that! Never like that.
"Let's go get your fish, Hima-tan, Yate-tan," Hitoshi speaks with a tired smile. Himari squeals again and repeatedly signs "fish", her twin quickly joining in.
Hitoshi chuckles at their antics and rolls his eyes. His little terrors.
Hitoshi blinks tiredly at the jumbled chaos of the class he will be transferring into. He glances up at Shōta, only to receive purposeful ignorance as he glares at the class. Hitoshi blinks again, his blank expression doing nothing to express his surprise, when Class 1-A immediately calms down the moment Shōta activates his Quirk.
"1-A, this is Shinsō Hitoshi. He is currently being deliberated. If he passes, he will transfer into your class. This field trip will be his test," Shōta speaks without any greeting or prompt.
"Please take good care of me, I guess." Hitoshi bows without any proper form. He runs a hand through his wild purple hair, stifling a wince of pain.
"I am Iida Tenya, Class Representative of Class 1-A!" A tall boy with blue hair and red eyes hiding behind a pair of glasses bows a perfect 90 degrees. "Do not be afraid to come to me for help! I will do my best to make sure you are comfortable and settled in Class 1-A, Shinsō-kun!"
A tall black haired girl steps up next to Tenya and gives a demure bow of her own. "I am Yaoyorozu Momo, Vice Representative of Class 1-A. A pleasure to meet you, Shinsō-kun. If you need any help or advice, do not hesitate to come to me. Welcome to our class!"
"...okay," Hitoshi says before wincing at his tone. He wasn't expecting to be confronted with conversation so soon... he needs to work on his social skills.
"The rest of the introductions can take place on the bus. We're already wasting too much time," Shōta speaks up before any other introductions are made.
Tenya snaps back into his straight posture, moving his arm back and forth in a chopping motion. "Everyone please get into two file lines and enter the bus quietly and concisely!"
Hitoshi raises an eyebrow, but follows the instructions without complaint. He doesn't mention how UA's buses aren't built like the normal commercial buses either. He does enter the bus first, wanting to claim the most comfortable seat before the inevitable interrogation and the conversations he will be forced to participate in.
He's about to get comfortable in the very back corner of the bus when two people are already harping down on him. Hitoshi expertly hides a flinch behind a tired blink despite him expecting this type of behavior.
"Shinsō-kun, right? You must be really smart to be deliberated! Man, I didn't think that was even a thing! I'm Kaminari Denki!" A boy, shorter than Hitoshi with bright yellow hair and electric yellow eyes, exclaims before he sits down in the seat across from Hitoshi.
"I've seen you around! You're from one of the General Studies classes, right? That means you failed the exam!" The shortest boy Hitoshi has ever seen speaks up with a highly annoying voice and an even more annoying callousness.
"Yes," Hitoshi answers indifferently, barely giving the two teenagers a glance when someone nudges the shortest boy after they walk up.
"Stop being rude, Mineta," A girl with dark purple hair cut short to her chin dark eyes, and earphone jacks as her ears states almost coldly before she looks over at Hitoshi. "Please don't assume we're all rude like this idiot, Shinsō-kun. It's simply just Mineta being Mineta. Jirō Kyōka, by the way."
"No worries. There's always one kid like that in every class," Hitoshi jokes wryly, making Kyōka smirk and Denki fail to cover a cackle, both ignoring Mineta's loud protest.
"So. Why are you looking to transfer from General Studies?" Kyōka sits next to Denki, using one of her ear jacks to stab Mineta before he could get closer to her.
Hitoshi shrugs before he adjusts himself to keep his back pressed against the bus wall. "I passed the written exam and only missed the cut off in the Entrance Exam by three points. Thought I'd have another go at it–and I've got two terrors who'd be really upset with me if I didn't try one more time to get into the Hero Course."
"That's right!" Hitoshi is incredibly thankful both Kyōka and Mineta jumped at the sudden exclamation with him. "I knew I recognized your name! You were ranked number one in the written exam!"
Whispers of disbelief and awe fill the entire bus and Hitoshi feels his neck and cheeks start to burn without his say so. He glances past the group of teens who basically surrounded him to focus on a much too bright of a person to not be the embodiment of a sun; a very plain sun.
"Broccoli." Hitoshi clears his throat and ignores how his blush burns even more at the involuntary thought.
"That's so cool, Shinsō-kun! The written exam is designed to be at least 2nd year high school level, and you ranked number one with hardly any competition!" The plain looking boy with green hair continues to ramble excitedly.
"Fuck off with your rambling, Deku!" The booming shout makes Hitoshi flinch heavily. He clenches his fist against his leg, his nails piercing the palm of his hand.
"Stop speaking you piece of shit! No one wants to hear you–" Hitoshi releases a shaky breath as he forces his thoughts to shut down.
Hitoshi glares heatedly at the blonde boy who basically screamed. "And you should fuck off with your shouting. You're going to burst an eardrum or two, asshole."
"What did you just call me, Dead Eyes?!" The blonde boy sparks out explosions from his hands with a snarl. Hitoshi meets his carmine glare of death with ease.
"An asshole, though I might be a bit too kind."
"Why, you fucking–"
"Bakugō-kun! Please stay seated!" Tenya scolds loudly while moving his hand up and down. "The bus is about to leave–and please refrain from shouting... louder than your normal volume level!"
"Shut up, Four Eyes!" Bakugō actually shouts back at a somewhat quieter level. Hitoshi raises an eyebrow, but stays silent.
"Oh! I'm Midoriya Izuku! Nice to meet you, Shinsō-kun!" The plain looking boy, Izuku, introduces himself with a slight flush. Hitoshi gives him a small quirk of a smile before tilting his head towards the angry blonde.
"And him?"
"Bakugō Katsuki. The one who ranked number one in the Entrance Exam–and the one who'll beat your fucking ass if you think you're gonna beat me at anything!" Katsuki snarls with his hands sparking.
"I thought I already did," Hitoshi states with a smirk, making Katsuki growl like an animal.
"What's your Quirk? You must have a super amazing one if you almost passed the Entrance Exam!" Izuku asks brightly, effortlessly ignoring the literal ticking time bomb in the form of a human.
Hitoshi stifles a wince before he sighs. Here it is. Another class who will bully and belittle him because of his Quirk.
"It's Brainwashing..." Hitoshi answers quietly. "I can brainwash anyone if they answer a question I ask."
"Brainwashing?!" Denki exclaims loudly.
Hitoshi can't stifle his flinch and simply clenches his jaw. He keeps his eyes downcast and messes with a loose string of his pants.
"That's so cool!"
Hitoshi startles and snaps his head up with wide eyes. Huh?
"Can you control multiple people? Is it framing it as a question or is it actually a question that triggers your Quirk? Can it work on anything with sentience?" A notebook randomly appears in Izuku's hand, a pen writing faster than Hitoshi's eyes could process. "The possibilities are nearly endless! You could calm down panicking civilians or end hostage situations... and you could..."
Hitoshi stares at the plain looking boy weirdly when he quickly devolves into very fast paced and eerily in depth muttering. What the actual fuck?
"DEKU, SHUT THE FUCK UP! No one wants to hear your annoying ass rambling!" Katsuki screams with even bigger explosions coming out of his hands. A floating pair of gloves squeal loudly when the explosions make the bus shake and a blonde boy with a large tail flails around before keeping the floating gloves upright.
"Bakugō-kun! Do not cause the bus to shake! And do not scream!" Tenya scolds loudly, somehow at the same volume level of Katsuki's previous shout.
"Why don't you shut the fuck up, Four Eyes?! You're just as loud as me!" Katsuki stands on top of his bus seat, the explosions still bursting from his hands more like star bursts than actually explosions.
Tenya stands up as well with a hand chop motion. "Bakugō-kun, sit down! The bus is moving!"
"Fucking make me, Four Eyes!"
"If this damn bus doesn't go completely quiet in the next three seconds and stays quiet until we reach our destination, I am driving this bus off a cliff and your field trip will be figuring out how to climb back up without your Quirks!" Shōta shouts from the driver's seat with his hair floating high above him and his eyes glowing red. The entire bus goes completely silent in less than two seconds.
"Holy fuck... holy fuck. Holy fuck! That's–" Hitoshi chokes on a squeal before he quickly forces himself into a coughing fit to cover it up. It's fucking Eraserhead?! Class 1-A's homeroom teacher is Eraserhead! Holy fucking shit!
"Himari's gonna be so fucking happy," Hitoshi thinks, shoving his hands in his pockets to hide how much they were shaking in excitement.
He forces himself not to think about how exciting it is for himself... even though it is his all-time favorite hero, and one he's admired since he discovered Eraserhead. He'll fanboy about it later. Yeah... much later.
"Everyone, I have been waiting for you." Hitoshi can't help, but silently gasp along with the majority of the more audible Class 1-A at the sound and sight of one of the best–and one of Hayate's favorites–search and rescue heroes. Space Hero: Thirteen.
"Hayate is going to be so jealous," Hitoshi thinks as an unbidden and quiet smile growing on his face. Maybe, after this test of his, he'll ask for an autograph for Hayate... and an autograph from Shōta for Himari.
"Let's go inside without delay."
"Look forward to working with you!" Class 1-A declares loudly in their excitement while Hitoshi speaks normally. Yeah, talking that loud would be too much energy spent.
"Shinsō-kun!" Hitoshi twitches at the loud voice directed at him, but turns towards the direction it came from anyway. He blinks slowly as Izuku walks over with a beaming smile and his notebook nowhere in sight.
"Do you know what you'll be doing while we're here?" Izuku asks brightly, excitement and curiosity warring with each other in his eyes.
Hitoshi shoves his hands into his pockets before he starts to walk with Izuku and the rest of the class. He shrugs his shoulders while he glances at Shōta leading the way.
"Some kind of test in the first half, and then I'll be working with some of you," He repeats what he had been told.
Hitoshi nearly covers his eyes with how bright Izuku's smile becomes. Holy fuck, he's the very sun itself.
"I'm sure you'll do amazing! I hope I'll get to work with you!"
"...I guess..." Hitoshi says awkwardly, slightly wincing at his blank tone. Ah... he doesn't know how to react to this...
He forces a smile on his face, hopefully to convey his gratitude before he faces forward. He wasn't at the front of the class, but with his height he didn't need to be.
Hitoshi feels his face smooth out before his mouth opens slightly in his shock.
...holy fucking shit.
"Did we take a trip through Oz and end up at Universal Studios Japan?" Hitoshi mutters under his breath, glancing at every inch of the interior of USJ the further he walks in.
"So cool!" Izuku squeals beneath his breath.
"A shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, et cetera–it is a training ground I made with different types of accidents and disasters. It's called the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, or "USJ" for short," Thirteen declares with a finger pointed towards the class.
Hitoshi sweatdrops before he sighs softly, scratching the back of his head. The acronym matching had to be purposeful. He'd have done the same thing just to troll people.
He slowly opens his eyes before blinking when he sees Shōta talking quietly with Thirteen. His eyes narrow when Thirteen holds up three fingers. What are they talking about?
Shōta sighs tiredly before facing away from Thirteen. "It can't be helped. Shall we begin?"
"Let's see... Before we begin, let me say one thing... er... or two, or three..." Hitoshi feels his eye twitch when Thirteen devolves into a slight ramble. Ah, they'll get along great with Izuku it seems.
Thirteen quickly focuses back on the task at hand, their entire posture becoming serious. "Everyone, I am sure you are aware of my Quirk, Black Hole. I can suck up anything and turn it to dust."
"You've been able to use that Quirk to save people from all kinds of disasters, right?" Izuku bursts out in his awestruck. Hitoshi watches with slight worry as the one girl with the pink cheeks continues to rapidly nod her head up and down.
"Yes, but it is a power that can kill easily. Some of you also have Quirks like that, right?"
Hitoshi's face is completely wiped of any expression. He clenches his fists inside his pockets, feeling his nails pierce through the skin of his palm.
"As if I'd let someone act so villainous in my class! You will wear this muzzle and you do so happily! I won't let such a scary Quirk loose when you could easily kill someone!"
Hitoshi clenches his jaw to refrain from rubbing his jaw. As if Brainwashing could actually kill someone like that. He obviously knows better than to try, but even then... instincts can override just about anything, including Quirks.
"–class is a fresh start. You shall learn how to use your Quirks to save people's lives."
Hitoshi startles back into reality, his jaw twitching as he refrains from snapping his head up.
"You do not have powers so you can harm others. I hope you leave here with the understanding that you have powers in order to help others," Thirteen continues passionately. Hitoshi blinks before slowly looking up to focus on the rescue hero.
The hero bows. "That is all. Thank you for listening."
Class 1-A cheers loudly with applause while Hitoshi continues to stare at Thirteen. A small huff leaves his mouth, his shoulders slowly relaxing from their tense position he didn't realize they got into.
"I have a power that can help others, huh?" Hitoshi smiles quietly at the thought. Almost word for word with...
"Alright then, first–"
Hitoshi sucks in a sharp breath when the air around them all changes. The hairs on the back of his neck rise before he hears the sound of electricity crackling.
He snaps his head back and watches with wide eyes as the dome lights suddenly turn off. He turns back around and feels his heart stutter.
Shōta was shocked. And he was looking down towards the center courtyard of USJ. Hitoshi swallows the sudden influx of saliva in his mouth and slowly turns his head forward.
His already pale skin turns completely white at the weird purple mass that he sees.
"Gather together and don't move!" Shōta orders urgently. "Thirteen, protect the students!"
Hitoshi takes a step back, hearing his heart pounding in his ears. "This has... this has to be... to be a lesson. A prank... this can't... there can't be... it's UA! There can't be–"
"Don't move!" Shōta's shout brings Hitoshi back from his panic. He breathes in sharply, before he suddenly breathes out, only to breathe in again. Ah, he wasn't breathing.
Shōta pulls on his infamous yellow goggles, facing towards the central courtyard. "Those are villains."
Hitoshi might just throw up right then and there. He should have just waited until the UA Sports Festival to try and get into the Hero Course.
HEYYYYYY! I hope you all like the new and improved chapter for this story that I totally did NOT abandon for like two FUCKING years!!! Totally! Totally, totally, totally!
