Here's the next chapter!
Hope you like it!
It's pretty short, but I felt that what happens in this chapter makes it deserve to be by itself and not at the beginning of another chapter.
Disclaimer: I don't own Sly Cooper. I wish I did though. I'd make a new game or remaster them again.
Now, let's dive back in!
An Inventor's Request
Two days later…
Gavin smiled as he sat in the back of the van, looking out towards the windshield while Murray drove the van off the small ferry they had gotten on earlier that day, with the van disguised by tarps and ducktape that made it look very beat-up. They'd left Paris around midnight and come to a port a couple hours later, with Silvia going out in disguise to book passage while everyone else remained in the van. He'd slept for most of the trip, having woken up just before they'd arrived in England a couple hours later, and had spent the previous day training, relaxing, and studying up on their target.
"Bentley, have you had any luck with finding the exact location of Sir Raleigh's hideout?" Silvia asked her turtle friend as Murray quickly got them into a side street and came to a stop in an alley. He then got out and quickly removed the tarps and tape, folding them up and putting them in the back of the van.
"I've managed to locate two places in the triangle that he could be at, Silvia," Bentley replied as he typed away on the computer while Murray finished uncovering the van and got back into the driver's seat. "The Isle of Wrath and the Isle of Darkness. Both are viable places for him to be at, but I can't tell which one exactly!" he continued with disappointment and frustration in his voice, causing Silvia to frown.
"Well then we'll have to check them both," She answered him before she turned to Murray. "Let's go Murray," She told him. "To Pembroke, Wales."
"Okay, Silvia," The hippo replied with a smile before he drove the car out of the alley and deeper into the port town they had arrived at, with Silvia using the map to help him get to the outskirts.
As they started the 5 to 6 hour drive to Pembroke, Gavin looked at the file holding the information Bentley had compiled about Sir Raleigh, and sighed, before he started to read it once more, as he didn't have much else to do.
According to the information Bentley and the police had gathered, Sir Raleigh Morgan the Frog had started life well off, being born into a very wealthy family of businessmen. He'd grown up wealth and privilege, but the hot-tempered frog grew very bored of it, as he could have anything he wanted with no effort whatsoever, which did little to stimulate his high intelligence.
When he reached his early twenties, his boredom reached its peak, and he decided to pirate a ship with his private yacht on a whim. And he found that it was to his liking. In a matter of months he was on a pirating spree, sinking ships left and right, looting their treasure and offing many the crews and passengers in the process. He had quickly grown addicted to crime, as it stimulated his high intelligence, forcing him to really think things through, and he got better at it as the years went by, sinking bigger ships and stealing larger riches with deadly machines.
Then, five years ago at the age of 40, he was brought into the Fiendish Five as their chief machinist, where his evil tinkering genius rose to new heights. He was the last member to join the group and officially make themselves the "Fiendish Five," but the first to disband after the murders of Silvia's parents. He'd continued his pirating career with greater success, being even smarter and crueler with his motives.
And according to the information in the file, the mad machinist had last been reported in the Welsh Triangle two years ago, which was when he'd disappeared from the public eye suddenly. Bentley couldn't even find any information on the web about what he could be doing out there, although he did find that the Triangle had become an area of permanent bad weather, with hurricanes, waterspouts, strong winds, and lightning storms happening on a daily basis around the same time that Raleigh had disappeared.
'Man, this is going to be a very interesting job,' Gavin thought as he looked at the file, before he looked over at Bentley. 'We have no idea what his hideout is going to look like, what his defences will be, and where he will be located in the hideout. The only two things we know are that 1. The Thievius Raccoonus pieces he took are probably there, and 2. He'll probably have a good amount of treasure we can steal on our way out,' He continued with a smirk as he remembered that the Gang only stole from criminals, and Raleight definitely fit the bill. 'Although first we have to find the damn place!' he finished with a sigh before he laid back and closed his eyes, still feeling a bit tired.
He was awoken by a large jerk of the van that made him smack his face into the back of Murray's seat. "Owww," he grumbled as he rubbed his face while he sat upright, the file still in his lap and under his arm.
"Sorry pal! Didn't mean to hurt ya!" Murry said apologetically as he drove the van around a corner in the winding road. "It's just, there was a really cute deer that just decided to jump in front of us, and I couldn't let us hit it!" He continued with a bit of worry in his voice.
"It's okay Murray," Gavin replied with a wave of his hand as the pain in his face quickly dissipated. "I understand why you did it. How long do we have left to our destination?" he continued.
"We're two hours away from Pembroke," Bentley answered as he continued to type on the computer, sounding a bit worried. "Once we get there, Silvia will talk to the locals to get more information about the Isles and see which one Raleigh is using as a base," he continued. "While she does that, you will procure a boat for us from the port."
"Oh, that sounds like it'll be fun," Gavin replied with a smile. "How big does the boat need to be? Van sized or person sized?"
"We need one that can fit the van on it, Gavin," Bentley said in a matter-of-fact tone as he adjusted his glasses. "The storms are so bad out there that we'll need to be rather close in order to communicate with you two when you're going into his base," he explained, causing an intrigued look to appear on Gavin's face.
"Huh, interesting," he replied with a cock of his head before he turned and looked at the front of the van, where he saw that they were driving towards a small city. 'Alright, I feel well rested, so what do I do now?' He thought to himself as they got closer and closer to the city, soon reaching it after a couple minutes had passed.
They entered the small city with no trouble at all and started making their way through it, going around a couple of roundabouts and cutting through alleys to avoid lights.
Gavin looked around at the scenery with awe, as he had never been to Wales before, and he found it to be rather different compared to what he'd grown up with in the United States of America in his old world. He found it quite fun to figure out what the various differences were as they went through the city, almost making a game of it.
They continued on through the city for about fifteen more minutes, and they were nearly to the other side of the city when something hit the roof of the van with a somewhat heavy metallic "Ding" as they drove through a long tunnel in a brick bridge. "What the heck is that?" Gavin questioned as he, Silvia, and Bentley looked up at the ceiling, before they heard louder "Ding" sounds as something started to move across the roof. "What the fuck?!" He exclaimed with confusion as the sounds moved towards the front right of the van along with the sound of mechanical parts moving rapidly, before they all saw an interesting object crawl down onto the right side of the windshield after ten seconds had passed.
The object looked like a metal yoga ball that was painted black with a dark gray stripe running across the center of it horizontally. Four long and thick black metal flexible tubelike limbs snaked out of it from four points, with five long and thin clawlike silver fingers at the ends of them. The object rotated the middle of itself, revealing that the whole thing was segmented, until two large black round lenses were pointed at them.
"What in the hell is a robot doing on the van?!" Gavin exclaimed while they stared at the robot as Murray continued to drive, a small cloud of steam coming out of the side of it as it continued to stare at them. "Is it one of Raleigh's inventions?!" he continued, before a small hidden panel slid open next to the lenses, and a small roll of white paper slid out via a smaller robotic arm that had three tubelike fingers wrapped around the middle of the paper.
"I highly doubt it," Bentley replied with a shake of his head as the robotic arm extended towards Silvia's window, which she slowly opened and reached out for the paper. When she took the paper, the robot let go of it and retracted its arm back into its body before closing the panel and somewhat jerkily moving onto the left side of the van. "What is it Silvia?" he asked her best friend as she unrolled the paper and looked at it, with Gavin leaning over the backseat to get a look at it while Murray drove the van into a side street.
"It's a message," Silvia said with a bit of intrigue as she and Gavin looked at the paper and started to read it, taking note that each letter of the handwritten black ink words on the paper were rather thing and elegant but with simplicity as well.
The note read:
Dear Cooper Gang,
I have a proposition for you that I believe you will find most helpful in your quest to obtain the pieces of the Thievius Raccoonus and defeat the Fiendish Five. As Mr. Bentley Wiseturtle informed Mr. Gavin William Woodring, Silvia Cooper, and Murry Hefftsorm two days ago, I used to be Sir Raleigh's apprentice until I decided I had learned all I could and left with a majority of his fortune 11 years ago.
While he has undoubtedly done all he can do to remove every trace of my existence in his history, I have hacked him several times in the past without his knowledge, and thus I know everything about his current hideout.
I would be willing to give the information to you, for a price, and only to Mr. Woodring.
If you accept, have Mr. Woodring put his hand on the robot and then follow it. He will be given the information I have along with the price I would like.
Sincerely,
Lady June Way
At the bottom of the paper was a drawing of the side profile of an elegant fox head with an open eye that had a slightly slit pupil and was sitting in the middle of a large gear.
"Well that's convenient," Gavin said with a small chuckle as he looked at the note while Silvia reread it a couple times.
"It definitely is," Silvia replied with a bit of a firm tone in her voice while she narrowed her eyes slightly. "Why does she want to give the information to only you though? And how does she know all of our full names?"
"I have no idea Silvia," Gavin said with a shrug. "But she's offering information about Raleigh that could be helpful. I think we should do it. I mean, what harm could it do? If it's money she wants, we can take the treasure Raleigh has and give it to her," he continued.
"I-I-I think you're right, Gavin," Bentley replied as he cleaned his glasses with a soft white cloth, revealing his dotlike eyes that were normally covered by them. "W-We need to be quick with this job, as I am certain Inspector Fox will be on our trail soon!" he continued. "Although I don't like that she only wants to give the information to you either or that she knows all that information about us," he admitted. "I mean, there's been no breaches in the security system."
"Who knows? Maybe she used magic," Gavin suggested with another shrug, before he turned to Silvia. "So, what do you say Silvia? Should I do it? Or should we not?"
"Hmmm, alright, let's do it," Silvia replied after thinking it over for several seconds, prompting him to smile before he got up from his seat and grabbed his mask and a notepad and pen from a drawer in the computer. "But get out of there if things start to get ugly. Who knows what that inventive inventor put in that robot," She continued.
"Yes Silvia, I will," he told her with a warm smile before he put on the fox mask and stepped out of the van. 'Okay, now where are you?' he questioned as he shut the van door and looked at the vehicle, slowly walking around to the left as he did so. 'Ah, there you are!' He continued with a smile as he spotted the robot sitting on the left side of the van, its lenses aimed at him. "Alright, now let me just touch and follow you," he muttered before he reached his right gloved hand out and put it on the top of the robot.
Immediately, a turquoise aura appeared around the robot and around his hand, causing his eyes to widen with surprise as a gentle tingle ran through his hand, before the robot let off some steam. "Woah, that's interesting," he said as he took his hand off the robot and looked at it while the aura quickly disappeared in three seconds. "I wonder if that was some sort of magic or something," he continued before the robot crawled off the van and over to the building on his left, prompting him to look at it.
It started to go up the side of the old two-story building, prompting him to make a vine that had a large leaf on top of it, which he sat on before he made it stretch upwards quickly. He reached the roof at the same time as the robot and got onto the roof as it started to hurry across the flat roof while the vine shriveled up into dust, prompting him to run after it while Silvia and the others followed him from the streets with the help of the tracker built into his binocucom.
"Where the heck is it leading me to?" he questioned as he jumped across a very narrow alley and landed on the roof of another two-story building, watching the robot move across the roofs like a very fast spider. "A hidden base of hers?" he continued as he followed it across the roof and onto another one that was terraced, with the second roof making a third floor.
The robot came to a stop in front of the third floor and sent out four rods that penetrated the roof of the abandoned building, making him arch an eyebrow while he walked over to it. "What the hell are you doing?" he asked the robot, before a somewhat small rectangular panel opened in the very top of the robot with a small burst of steam and a light green old-fashioned film projector with a dark green pentagonal crystal set in the place of the reels rose up. "A projector?" he questioned before the soft sound of spinning gears hit his ears as he saw the crystal light up while light shined through the lense and hit the wall the robot was facing. "What's it going to show?" He continued as he looked at the wall, before the light changed to show the top of a tall chair with a bright red back that had a sharply curved top.
"Hello Gavin Woodring," a soft and intelligent sounding, somewhat young female voice said from the screen, prompting his eyes to widen with shock while he took a couple steps back as well.
"What the fuck?!" he exclaimed softly as he stared at the chair, which slowly turned to reveal the upper half portion of the person sitting in it.
Said person was a beautiful female young red fox who had gentle orange fur covering the visible parts of her head, with light cream fur running from right behind her eyes all the way down to the very base of her skull with the orange fur making a small divot in the edges of the cream fur on her cheeks. The light cream fur ran down the sides of her somewhat short snout and underneath her eyes, with the orange fur coming down the top of her snout and ending at her large nose. Her eyes were large, slightly slanted downwards, and almond-shaped with green eyes that were so light in color that they looked like they were almost glowing. The fur on the edges of her cheeks was longer and formed small points, while short black whiskers sat by her nose and somewhat thin black eyebrows sat above her eyes. The tips of her long ears were covered in black fur, with the rest of the outside of the ear gentle orange as well while the insides were a light cream.
Sitting on top of her head was a wide-brimmed turquoise-green hat with pink flowers decorating the center of it while three long white feathers with four black stripes near the tops of each of them sat on the left side of the hat. A two-toned mint-green Victorian-era dress appeared to be hugging her slender body, although he wasn't certain as he could only see her from the middle of her belly up. The tall lighter mint-green collar of her dress hugged her neck while frills sat at the very top of it, looking like a ring of spikes resting against the base of her skull. It connected to matching fabric that ended at the top of where her chest seemed to start, with a large oval pink brooch right below the base of her neck. It formed small divots into the darker toned mint-green fabric at her sides and down the valley of her cleavage, with the darker fabric hugging the rest of her chest and belly. The fabric covering her shoulders was circular in shape and somewhat puffed up, with paler opera gloves serving as long sleeves to cover her arms, which were mostly offscreen, although he did see one reach up and adjust her hat slightly.
"It is so nice to finally talk with you after all this time," The fox said with a smile as she looked him over while he stared at her with shock.
"Is…Is this a recording or real time feed?" he asked her with extreme confusion, causing her to smile. "Cause if it's a recording, she'd have had to have worked really hard to figure out how I was going to respond to her."
"Oh, it is no recording, dear Gavin Woodring," The fox replied with a shake of her head, causing his eyes to widen with shock. "This is all in real time," She continued.
"Holy shit! Holy shit! That's amazing!" he said with awe. 'I don't think that's been invented yet!' He thought to himself.
"Why thank you Gavin Woodring," She replied with a bit of happiness in her voice. "I am Lady June Way, as you probably presume, and I have wanted to talk with you for quite some time," She continued, causing more surprise to run through him. "But for now, I wish to discuss payment for the information I have regarding my former mentor," She finished, prompting Gavin to shake his head and gain a somewhat serious look on his face.
"Right, payment," He said somewhat quietly as he pulled out the notepad and pen he'd grabbed earlier. "What exactly do you want?" He asked her with curiosity as he opened the pen and prepared to write.
"Mmmmmm, when you go inside Raleigh's hideout, you will find a library where he keeps every single one of his books," She stated, prompting him to start writing while she held up a slender five-fingered hand. "There are three books in there I'd like you to get. One is titled "Metallic Marvels of Machinery," the second is titled "The Machine Wizard," and the third is titled "The Lore of Lost Treasures." Each one is very thick and has the title on the spine as well as on the cover," She continued as she looked at him. "Then, when you go to his personal quarters, there will be a section with several frog statues. Two large chests are located on either side of the room, and I would like the contents of the left chest. The final room in his personal quarters is where he keeps the majority of his treasure. There is a short golden staff with a snake head on the top that I would like that is located near the middle of the room. The head is that of a hooded cobra with an open mouth, with two large red gems as eyes while a large deep-blue gem sits in the mouth. Also in the room is a golden mask on the wall that is covered in gems and is in the shape of a gazelle's head, and finally, a jade statue of a pair of kistunes. They should be on a lilypad pedestal," She finished.
"Okay, interesting items to want, but I think I can get them," He replied as he looked at the notes he'd taken, causing June Way to smirk a little. "Anything else?"
"No, that is all I want for payment," She stated, causing him to nod and smile.
"Great!" he said happily. "So, what information do you have for us?" he asked her with curiosity.
"Oh, the plans for the base, details on the security systems, and a map of the land routes leading to his headquarters, with my notes on the levels of security for each one," She replied before she looked at the robot and said, "Show him the plans," causing another rectangular panel to swing open to the right of the projector. A small black box slid out towards him with the help of a metal extendable rod and stopped when it was a foot away, before the lid opened to reveal a black USB drive in it.
"Oh, how nice! All in one package!" He said with a smirk as he reached out and grabbed the drive before he pocketed it along with the notes. "Thank you very much Lady June Way," he continued with a smile and a slight bow since he couldn't shake her hand or hug her.
"Oh, you are very welcome Gavin," She said with a tone that sent shivers down his spine for some reason that he couldn't quite place, although it sounded rather familiar. "If you get me all of those items successfully without damaging them, I have a few great rewards for you," She continued before she reached up to her collar and pulled on it with both hands, revealing that it was extremely stretchy as her neck was shown to have more orange fur on it, which made him think that she was possibly some sort of hyper, although he wasn't sure. "Consider this as a sort of 'down payment,'" She stated with a large smirk as she continued to pull on her dress and leaned forward while tilting her head back, causing his eyes to widen, cheeks to heat up, and cock to harden a bit as her neckline stretched out to the size of a large hula hoop.
His eyes were greeted with the sight of the tops of two rather large breasts that were covered in the same orange fur that was on her neck and face. As she continued to stretch it out for the next twenty seconds, he thought he saw something else beyond her breasts as her arms moved the neckline around a few times so he could get a better view of it, and he stepped closer to the building, only for her to smirk more at him and slowly relax her pull on the neckline.
"I look forward to hearing how you fare with Sir Raleigh," She said before she snapped her fingers, causing the box-holding arm to retract back into the robot before another arm extended outwards with a somewhat small square shiny brass box held between two claws. "When you have all the items and have successfully escaped the area, press the button in this box so we may discuss where to rendezvous so I can obtain the items," she continued, prompting him to smile as he reached out and took the metal box, which caused the arm to retract back into the robot. "Goodbye, Gavin Woodring, and see you again soon," She finished with a small smile and a giggle that sent shivers down his spine, before the projector turned off and slid back into the robot. The panel closed and then the rods slid back into the robot before it gave off a huge cloud of steam that mostly obscured it from view.
When the cloud dissipated, he saw that the robot was quickly hurrying away, soon reaching the left edge of the building and climbing over it in about fifteen seconds. "Well, that happened," He said after twenty more seconds passed, blinking a few times while taking a deep breath. "Now where is the Gang?" He questioned before he headed over to the right edge of the roof and looked over it, only to see an empty alley. "Not there."
"We're in the back Gavin!" Silvia's voice rang out through his binocucom in his open backpack, making him jump slightly.
"Oh," Gavin replied as he felt his heart race a little before he turned and headed to the back of the building. When he reached the edge of the roof, he looked down and saw the van sitting directly below him, prompting him to smile before he made a seed drop onto the roof right in front of him. It burst open and turned into thick curved vines that he made curve into a "U" shape and gently spiral down until it touched the street next to the right of the van. He then got into the makeshift slide and quickly went down it with a large smile, ending up next to the van within five seconds.
He quickly got off the slide and walked over to the van, before he waved a hand in front of the passenger window as he grabbed the handle of the side door and pulled on it while the slide turned into dust, with only a small clump of ivy sitting on the edge of the roof where it had been a few seconds earlier. "Hey guys," he said as he got into the van and shut the door before he sat down in his chair and took off his mask.
"So how did it go?" Silvia asked him. "What did Miss Mysterious have to say?"
"Oh, she had a lot of helpful information about Raleigh's headquarters, although she never explained why she only wanted to talk with me," he replied before he pulled out the USB and handed it over to Bentley, causing a frown to briefly cross Silvia and Bentley's faces. "It's all on there. Maps of land routes to his headquarters that have notes on the security, details on the security systems, and the plans for the base," he continued as Bentley looked at the USB carefully before he plugged it into a port in the computer and started to type on it. "All she wanted in exchange was for me to get her some books, a mask, and some other treasures when we get to his headquarters," he finished while Bentley's eyes widened and jaw dropped a little as he stared at his screen.
"Is that so," Silvia said with an arched eyebrow, before she looked over at Bentley. "Tell me Bentley, what all did she give us?"
"U-Um, e-everything Gavin said!" Bentley stated as he looked at his screen. "There's all sorts of maps and diagrams and blueprints of Raleigh's headquarters on here!" He continued.
"Excellent!" Silvia replied with a smile as she looked at the turtle, before she looked at Gavin and smiled wider. "Bentley, you analyze those documents while I guide Murray to Pembroke. And Gavin? Good job!" She continued before she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, causing him to blush.
"Thanks Silvia," he said with a large smile while she turned around as Murray resumed driving down the alley. "That means a lot," he continued as he looked at his notepad, while Bentley quickly typed on his computer as he looked at the documents.
'Well, things are looking a little less uncertain now than they were before,' he thought as they made their way towards the edge of town, his mind thinking about the mysteriousness of Lady June Way and the job they were going to pull off. 'But in any case, I know one thing. Tonight is going to be very interesting,' He continued with a smile.
Well, this was an interesting chapter!
Can't wait to write the next one!
Again, I apologize for the shortness of it, but I felt that what happens here is a good set up for what happens next and deserved its own chapter as a result!
I hope you like my inclusion/introduction of June Way from Unicorn: Warriors Eternal. I loved the character so much in that show that I just had to have her in this story, and maybe in some future ones.
Now I am going to work on some other older stories and update them before I do any new stories, as I have said before, my mind is constantly churning out ideas and I am constantly coming across shows, both old and new, that I want to write about.
Please leave a review if you can!
