The falling snow rapidly turned into blizzard conditions making it difficult for the humans to keep eyes on the creature despite its size and color. It was akin to driving behind a semi in the same conditions and only seeing the trucks tail lights when it braked. Sounds were muffled and walking in the shin deep snow was difficult. Afraid to fire and risk hitting a human, Dean's mind raced for a solution. He looked back but couldn't see Emma in the storm and the mother panicked.

Emma's senses were much sharper than an average human. She could hear the creature, now making a mournful sound of something lost and abandoned. If not for the circumstances, she would have felt sorry for it but that wasn't the case, they were all in incredible danger and it had to die. She could see its movements despite the near white out and smell the acrid musk it gave off out of anger and fear. The other humans were struggling, even her incredible mother who was no doubt going to try something heroic, bordering on crazy. The girl grabbed the Roman pugio dagger from her gear bag and circled around the creature.

As soon as Sam was through the double doors, led by two strangers in lab coats, Zola turned to lead Nick back to the truck and drive the teenager to his grandparents, but the boy was nowhere to be found. She stomped her foot and yelled, "Nick, get your little ass back here!" The women searched the area knowing damn well they'd never find him unless he wanted to be found. Though the Winchesters never came out and told them the twins were different, the other hunters observed the differences for themselves.

Nick heard Zola call out for him and she sounded pissed but no matter, he had no intention of leaving his dad alone. He'd moved to a tree nearest the building and climbed it like a monkey, from there he spied the perfect spot to take an insane leap onto a second floor patio where two people were having their break.

"Keycards on their lanyards…here goes nothing…"

He took a mighty leap and landed in front of two very surprised scientists. Nick smiled at them, "Hi, you guys have my dad in there and I want to see him." He looked to the man, "Give me your card and please don't try to stop me, I'm much stronger than you are. Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt anyone."

The teenager's voice, expression, and the way colors shifted like a kaleidoscope in his eyes had a strange effect on them. The man wordlessly handed over his keycard. As soon as Nick vanished through the door, the pair felt as if they had just woken up from a dream.

….

Sam made a quick study of his surroundings and the tall, white haired woman seated across from him. She was all business judging by the tight bun on her head and an even tighter expression on her drawn face. He could tell she was skeptical about his story.

"Explain to me in detail as to why you think your blood has the antibodies needed to combat the virus, Mister…"

"Just call me Sam." Sam took a deep breath and proceeded to explain things to the woman as clearly as he could without mentioning demon blood or his children. "As I told you, I was bitten by one of the sick as a teenager. I recall it not being any worse than battling the flu and years later I've had no symptoms or sickness."

"That's not entirely true, I'm stronger, more agile and because I have demon blood the combo is just right to make super babies with my brother….yeah, you heard right…my brother…I'm glad you can't read minds…I really, really miss Dean…"

I came here to offer up a sample of my blood for testing. All I want is for this to be over for everyone."

"Especially our kids who both deserve as much normal as possible…"

Ruth felt there was more to the story, important things he held back but after years of work and no wins, she was willing to try anything. "Alright Sam, we'll take your blood. I'd also like to run some tests on you if your agreeable to that. If you are the key to ridding us of the virus, I'd like to know more. Why do you think you have this miracle blood?"

The big man shrugged, "I don't know, good genetics? I'll stay as long as it takes to find out if you can synthesize a vaccine. As for the tests, no thanks, I'll pass."

"No worries, I'll put a rush on this. I also want life to go back to normal. Can you imagine generations of children growing up without knowing what this world was like pre-virus and before the monsters?"

Sam knew very well; he had two of his own children who never knew any life except for the sickness and a monster riddled world. The virus could be cured but he hated to tell her that the monsters were here to stay. The young man stood up and said with a grim expression on his face, "There have always been monsters." Sam rolled up his sleeves, "Lets do this."

….

Thinking the place was abandoned and no signs of vehicles or anything else around except for the now dead dog, the intruders relaxed just a little and waited for orders from the odious Edgar. They hated him but the mercenaries were paid well to follow this man on a hunt that most of them felt was a wild goose chase. Oh, they had their fun at the omega compound, a lot of rape, blood, explosions and pillaging but their toxic leader was a buffoon.

Edgar waved and pointed to the dark, boarded up house, "You three, go." They advanced, moving around to the back where hunters swiftly and quietly took them all down with a knife to the throat. The gurgling noises were drowned out by a breeze shaking the leaves, cicadas, birds, and other sounds. On of the hunters had a macabre though, the gurgling reminded her of a natural spring.

After that all hell broke loose. The deafening sounds of gunfire drowned out the hiss from the flights of arrows, in the end only one man was left alive, Edgar. The only reason he was alive was because he was the assumed leader and they needed information.

He howled in pain from the arrow stuck firmly in his thigh. He heard the sound of boots on gravel, then the bright, noonday sun was gone, blocked by an angry man with a scruffy beard. He pointed a pistol down at Edgar and kicked the arrow lodged in his leg and got a small satisfaction when the man groaned in pain.

"Stay awake."

Another person appeared; a slight male dressed in an ochre tunic with wide sleeves. He had a bow and a quiver on his back and ginger locks in a topknot.

The wounded man croaked, "I can see up your dress, omega."

Cayden braced a sandaled foot on Edgar's thigh, grabbed the arrow and pulled it out of him, taking a good chunk of flesh with it. "I'm not wasting an arrow on the piece of trash who murdered my dog."

Then the omega did something unexpected, he packed the wound and made a tourniquet. "We can't have you dying just yet."

….

Emma climbed up the creature's back, using its fur to hold on as it tried to buck her off. Even as strong as she was, it took effort to pierce its thick hide with the dagger. She went for the neck but got the shoulder instead. It roared and flailed its arms, knocking Emma off with the bony protrusion from its forearm. Dazed from the blow to her head she lay there staring up at the snow, trying to gather her senses. She heard her mother shouting her name before she closed her eyes and the world went black.

…..

Sam paced the small hospital-like room before flopping heavily on the uncomfortable bed. They'd taken enough blood to fill a blood bank and the hunter felt lightheaded. He eyed the sandwiches, milk and plate of cookies a pleasant lady brought him, grabbed a sandwich and wolfed it down. Sam couldn't recall the last time he ate and ended up eating all the sandwiches, a couple cookies and downed the milk.

"When did Nick eat last? I'm a shit father….never asked if he was hungry all this time…the women will feed him…"

Sam drifted off to sleep.

…..

"Dad, Dad…hey Dad wake up."

His son's voice pulled him out of a bad dream and when Sam opened his eyes, Nick was sitting next to him on the bed eating cookies. The teen smiled, chocolate chips stuck in his teeth.

"Hi, Dad."
