As soon as they left Fonsett village they headed to Torigoth the biggest city in Gormott. But on their way there they ran into someone unexpected.
"Gramps, what are you doing here?" Rex asked as he tried to let go of Nia's hand but she held on tightly.
"Ah, Rex." Gramps said, "And Nia, I can ask you the same thing."
"We're on our way to Torigoth," Rex replied as he looked down trying to avoid looking into Gramps' eyes. Nia just smirked at how Rex was reacting.
"Would you two like a ride?" Gramps asked, "So you could continue your little hand-holding session."
Rex turned red and tried to let go again but Nia wouldn't let him. "Not today, Rex."
"Hahaha," Gramps laughed. "There's nothing to be embarrassed about."
"I-I'm not embarrassed," Rex said.
"Well," Nia said. "Your body language is saying something different."
"Come on, I'm not going to wait on an answer all day," Gramps said impatiently.
"Let's just take him up on his offer," Nia said smirking mischievously as she leaned in and whispered to Rex, "Because I want to cuddle with you."
"Okay," Rex said. "I mean it will be quicker," but not wanting to say that he would actually enjoy Nia cuddling close to him because he didn't want Gramps to tease him later.
"But after we visit Torigoth, we should head to Uraya so we could I could pick up Roc."
"Yeah, that's a great idea," Nia said as Rex hopped on first and he grabbed Nia's hand to help her onto Azurda's back.
"My lady," Dromarch said. "Look what I found."
Nia grabbed it and she couldn't recognize it. "What is it?"
"It looks like a core crystal," Rex responded. "But, it looks different than the ones we've encountered before."
"Maybe it's the lights that we saw after we left the world tree," Nia said.
"You may be right," Rex said. "I think you should you could awaken it."
"No I think you should," Nia said and it went back and forth for awhile.
"Why don't you two save it for later until you can decide who would open it up." Azurda said annoyed.
As they flew on with the land flying below them Nia looked to Rex.
"Rex, may I ask you a question?" Nia asked as she scooted closer to Rex.
Rex put his arm around her and nodded, "Of course you may ask me anything."
"But, this question might make you a little embarrassed."
"It's fine," Rex replied.
Nia took a deep breath, "How long have you had feelings for me?"
"Well," Rex said not expecting that question. "It was when we were on the Maelstrom."
Nia's ears perked up as she was wondering if it was around the same time she fell in love with him.
"More specifically when I was on watch duty and you came to visit me."
"When you were talking about making it to Elysium?"
Rex nodded his head, "Yes."
"Oh, wow did I really make that much of an impression on you?"
"Yes you did, I mean you may have been a little mean but deep down I knew you were really kind." Rex said, "But I didn't realize it until we defeated Malos and Pyra sacrificed herself at the world tree."
Nia and Rex closed their eyes and leaned in and kissed. It wasn't really a romantic kiss but it felt magical at least to Nia. When they separated they both looked down and both of them turned red.
"It's about time," Azurda said. "You two were driving me nuts."
"Do you want to know when I fell in love with you?" Nia asked.
Rex nodded his head, "Yes."
"Do you remember when Jin stabbed you?"
"Yes, I mean it's not one of my favorite memories."
"I didn't understand why, but I was saddened at the mere thought of you being dead," Nia started. "I mean I didn't think you would love me. But when you and Pyra were together I was disappointed and yes maybe a little jealous."
Rex listened intently as they arrived in Gormott and Azurda landed in the water. Rex got off first and helped Nia off. Dromarch jumped off and followed them at a distance.
"We'll be back, Gramps." Rex said, "Please take it easy."
"Okay, now you be careful now,"
"Nia can you please finish your story?"
Nia nodded her head, "Yes, when we were in the Spirit Crucible Elpys and I told you I loved you I meant it in a romantic kind of way."
"Really," Rex said. "I didn't know what you meant."
"Well, I guess you know now." Nia said smiling as she grabbed his hand.
Rex nodded his head, "Yes, I do."
"My lady," Dromarch said. "I'm so happy for you."
"Thanks, Dromarch," Nia said, "I was afraid if Rex found out my secret I thought he wouldn't like me anymore."
"I can't believe you were worried about that." Rex said, "No matter what happens or the way you look, I will always love you."
As they arrived in Torigoth they saw a familiar face.
"Wait," Nia said, "Isn't that Poppi and Lila?"
Rex looked in the direction that Nia was pointing he nodded, "Yes, there's no mistaking it."
Poppi turned around and saw Rex and Nia. She ran up to them and gave them a hug.
"Rex and Nia," Poppi said. "Poppi so glad to see you."
"We're glad to see you too, Poppi," Nia said. "We're here to visit Tora."
"Allow Poppi and Lila take you to Tora."
So they followed Poppi and Lila around the corner until they arrived at the secret entrance to Tora's house. As soon as they arrived Rex and Nia walked in behind the artificial blades.
"Masterpon, Poppi brought guests."
Tora walked out of his workshop and was shocked to see Rex and Nia.
"Meh meh?!" Tora said, "Tora not expect to see Rex-Rex and Nia here."
"It's good to see you Tora."
"Nia, Tora see Rex-Rex share feelings." Tora said, "Although, Tora may be young but remember what Nia told group."
Rex looked to Nia, "What is he talking about?"
Before Nia could open her mouth Poppi spoke up,
"Friend Nia, told us she love Rex while Rex passed out." Poppi answered, "But Masterpon still didn't know what Nia meant so he did some research about what love was."
"Poppi, not supposed to divulge secrets of Masterpon," Tora whined.
Nia and Rex started laughing, "There's nothing wrong with that Tora."
"How long you staying?" Poppi asked, "Because Poppi want to make you dinner."
"Yeah, we'll just stay for dinner and stay at the inn til' morning then leave for Uraya in the morning," Rex said. "Is that alright with you Nia?"
Nia nodded her head, "Yes, that is fine."
"Poppi, happy."
"Poppi, do you need my help cooking?"
"No, Poppi and Lila got it." Poppi said, "Right Lila?"
"That's right sister," Lila responded as they trudged off into the kitchen.
"Uuuuuuuuhhhhh?" Tora said pointing to Rex's pocket, "Rex-Rex."
Nia looked and saw the Aegis's core crystal glowing an emerald green. Rex pulled it out carefully and looked to Nia.
"It's okay Rex," Nia said reading what he was trying to say in his mind. "I'm not jealous of them anymore, plus they are our friends and they should be with us."
Rex nodded as he touched the core crystal and two lights shot out and there stood Pyra and Mythra in two separate bodies.
"Rex," Pyra said. "It's good to see you again."
"And you as well Nia," Mythra added.
