The Group's Perspective

"Janna, tell me a story, please?" Lulu asked as the elder star guardian tucked her in. The other star guardians were all in their shared bedroom by now.

"We wouldn't want to disturb our new sisters, would we, Lulu?" Janna asked, looking around the room. Jinx looked like the last thing she wanted to do was stay up a second longer-a welcome idea if it meant the jokes about Janna's age would stop. Poppy still hadn't spoken a word to Janna other than her name.

But Lux smiled that same optimistic smile she always wore. "I'd like to hear it, Janna." She sat up in her own bed. "Staying up late for a story sounds like a good way to keep getting to know each other."

"That's alright, I wouldn't want-" Janna started.

"Trying to sleep, Cupcake," Jinx complained, pulling her pillow over her head.

Lux sighed. "How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me that?"

Jinx came out from under the pillow, eyes alight in a way that only spelled out chaos. "When you stop being so bright and pink and sickly sweet." She tilted her head. "Unless you let me cut off your hair..." Her head tilted a bit more, looking uncannily like an owl. "Might help."

"Jinx," Lux chastised. "We've been friends for a while and you've never followed through on that-WHAT ARE YOU?"

She scrambled away as Jinx pulled a pair of scissors from under her pillow and held them up menacingly. Janna waved her hand and a gentle gust of wind carried the scissors from Jinx's hand to her own. "So, a story."

Lulu got up excitedly, undoing all the tucking Janna had done.

"Once upon a time, there was a pale woman with dark hair who was very lonely-" Janna began.

"Not that one again," Lulu complained. "A different one. A happy one. Janna tells the best stories." She smiled proudly at the group. "She used to tell me and my sister Tristana all the best stories before she had to go home to the First Star and I answered the call."

"Exciting," Lux said with a sad smile.

"I can tell, look at those wrinkles," Jinx laughed. Lux threw a pillow at her and she dodged it.

"Once, at the beginning of time, there were two sisters. One-"

"Janna's the second sister," Jinx interrupted, "called it."

"Jinx!" Lux called. "That is not a good way to make friends."

"I don't need friends, you're stuck with me, cupcake," Jinx proudly announced.

"I really wanna hear this, Jinx."

"Fine, fine, put the puppy dog eyes away."

"I do not..." she thought better of it before turning to Janna, "you were saying?"

"Two sisters, one of silver and one of gold," Janna continued serenely as she got back to tucking in Lulu. "Who made the entire cosmos as we know it. But, over time, they began to have disagreements...as most sisters do..." Janna meant to continue but she sunk back into her thoughts.

"Janna?" Poppy called. Janna was startled to hear her speak, knocking her out of her reverie.

"Right," Janna went on, "they didn't know whether a sky should be blue...or purple...or green. A person should have two arms or seventy. Water should be warm or cold. Eyes should be on your head or your-"

"Butt."

"Jinx!" Lux chided.

"Wasn't me," Jinx said, looking at Lulu with a grin. "Knew I liked you, kid." Lulu chuckled.

Janna finished tucking her in and sat at her bedside. "No more interrupting or no story, young lady." Lulu nodded and Janna continued. "On your head or your butt." Lulu giggled. "They compromised, took turns, but they never fully resolved their different ideologies." When Lulu looked confused, she whispered the definition of the word to her. "The silver sister preferred...a more dangerous type of world. Volcanoes, storms, blizzards, solar winds, where only the strong survive. And she was strong enough to unlock the power deep within her sister's creations."

Poppy hmphed.

"The golden sister was gentler. She preferred to enjoy the beauty in the worlds she created and guide those who lived in them from afar. Until... those from her sister's domains invaded." She whispered the meaning to Lulu and noticed Poppy, Jinx, and Lux were staring at her raptly. "The golden sister confronted the silver sister and they battled for over a thousand years. Entire planets and solar systems were destroyed as they clashed for ages without rest. When they noticed how they'd hurt so many of their own creations without realizing, they finally saw the truth...the only way this fight would end is if they destroyed each other. And sisters should never destroy each other. To end the conflict, to keep their creations safe, to preserve their sisterhood...they split the entire universe in half. Though it pained them to be apart forever, they knew it was the only way."

Everyone listened raptly, but Lulu's mouth twitched.

"So, they live apart," Janna said. "And everyone is safe now. The end."

Lulu's lips still twitched as she stirred under the blankets. "That doesn't taste right," Lulu finally said.

"What do you mean?" Lux asked.

"That's not how it ends," Lulu said flatly, as if in a trance. "The voices don't like it. Especially the one that sounds like hot cocoa."

"What?" Poppy asked.

"Hey," Jinx said. "If she says a voice sounds like hot cocoa, it sounds like hot cocoa."

"I feel like-"

"We should all get to bed," Janna said. "We need to find out what this world has in store for us."

"What exactly does that mean?" Lux asked.

"I don't know," Janna said. "But this world needs our help. So we adapt, blend in, and help as many people as we can."

"So exploding buildings for fun is..." Jinx started, "is that against the rules or something?"

"Yes, Jinx," Lux said.

"We have a duty to this world," Poppy said, glaring at Jinx. "If you endanger it, don't think I'll hesitate to put you dow-"

"She's just joking-" Lux defended.

"No I wasn't," Jinx said with a challenging look at Poppy. "And anyone is welcome to try to stop me if they want."

"Maybe it's time for us to sleep," Janna said.

"I agree, Janna," Lux waved her hand and her wand materialized. With a twirl, the lights in the room died out. "First day of school tomorrow."

So, this story requires a bit of setup. This takes place in what you might call season 1. Lux's team and the first wave of skins. I'll avoid spending too much time here and get straight through this though because it'd be more fun, to me, to get to season 2, Ahri's team. The dynamic seems more fun, to me, than Lux inspires the team and tries to counteract a certain redhead's chaotic nature.

So, Lux and Jinx knew each other on their home planets, as did Janna and Lulu (though they weren't on the same team, that was Tristana), and Poppy is the lone wolf. The First Star gives guardians legal identification when they get sent to a planet and doesn't interact with most of them again. It's their job to be creative enough to blend in and fight the Darkness.
