Jinx's Perspective

Jinx sat outside the principal's office, scratching away at her chair with her fingernails. She wanted to grab her bag and tell Shiro to turn into a rocket launcher. Blasting a hole in the wall to escape...she chuckled at the idea. She saw a tall, handsome, older boy approach the door to the principal's office. He knocked, waiting for a response. Jinx noticed he wore a grim dark outfit with a feathery shirt and had deep teal hair that was almost black.

"She's busy..." Jinx announced boredly. "Apparently little baby fires cause 'disruptions to her daily obligations' or whatever."

He laughed, smiling with ridiculously bright teeth. His face turned grim a second later. "I saw something weird I wanted to tell her about."

"Weird," Jinx asked excitedly. "I love weird, spill."

He looked conflicted. "Promise you won't call me crazy?"

"No," Jinx said flatly before she laughed. "But tell me. Pleeeeeaaaase, I'm bored."

"I saw something weird and purple scuttling into the science building," he said. "It didn't look like anything I'd ever seen before, it was all purple and it had feathers."

"Oooo, I wanna see," Jinx said. She grabbed her backpack. "Thanks, it's absolutely nothing to worry about though. Probably a sparrow or something. Don't go back there, I'll get a...janitor."

"Are you sure it's safe?" He asked. "I don't want you to get hur-"

"Totally safe, Feathers!" Jinx announced as she snuck into the empty principal's office. She opened a window.

"Um, my name is actually Rakan."

"I absolutely won't remember that," Jinx said as she hopped through the window to find whatever Voidling was waiting for her. "Kuro, Shiro, time for fun." She felt her bag vibrate as they hopped excitedly.

The Girls' Perspective

The gym was empty, so that's where Lux led the girls. "So, we need parents to keep our cover," she announced.

"Or we could switch schools quietly," Janna said. "When the First Star dropped us here, the cabin had all the identification we'd need."

"We're star guardians," Lux said. "Star guardians don't give up and run." Janna smiled, the air becoming soothingly warm in the locker room Lux took them to.

"Have much experience with them?" Poppy asked.

"No, but it's something you should know about me," Lux said. She sat down on a bench. "Lulu, what did you say the First Star complimented you on?"

"My creetiveness and whi...whim...whisby?" Lulu wondered.

"Right," Lux said. "And when she amplified it, you said you could do what now?"

"Change things," Lulu said. "I turned a squirrel green today because there was this bird chasing it and it could hide better."

"That's very thoughtful," Janna complimented.

"In theory," Lux started. "Do you think you could change Janna?"

"I taste like she doesn't wanna be green," Lulu said. She looked at her for a moment. "Maybe purple skin?"

"Not her skin..." Lux said. "Can you turn Janna into a different person who could pretend to be our mom?"

"I taste..." Lulu began ponderously. "Like I can probably."

"Why me?" Janna asked. "I'll do it, but...why?"

"You were a lot more smooth with Principal Duvell," Lux said. "We have to cater to our strengths. Isn't that what the First Star said? That we'd have all we need to face the challenges ahead-"

"If we stuck together," Poppy finished.

"I miss her," Lulu said. "Will we see her again?"

"Hopefully not too soon," Janna said with a sad look in her eyes.

"So, we have a plan," Lux announced, putting a hand out palm-down. "Get Jinx outta trouble, stay in school, and keep our cover."

Lulu joined her, followed by Janna, then Poppy.

"Go team on three..." Lux said.

"One..." Poppy said.

"Two.." Janna followed.

"Tree!" Lulu finished with a chuckle. And they lifted their hands to the sky.

Jinx's Perspective

Jinx entered the science building and it didn't take long to find a trail of black and purple feathers. She followed it to one of the earth science classrooms and found where it ended. "Hmmm..." Jinx wondered. She unzipped her backpack and Kuro and Shiro flew out.

"All by yourself?" A voice asked behind her.

"Zap!" Jinx called, Kuro turned into the electric gun in a flash of red starlight. When she reached to grab it, something flew at her. Jinx's arm flew behind her as a razor-sharp feather embedded itself into the wall. It was sunken into her jacket, binding her to the wall helplessly. Kuro clattered to the ground, still in the form of the gun. She looked up and saw an older girl. She was dressed like..."a star guardian?"

The girl laughed. She had deep magenta hair and wore what looked like a star guardian uniform, only darker. She wore a cloak of feathers. "Oh, it's been a long time since anyone's called me that." She held up two fingers, feathers materializing between them.

Jinx reached for Shiro and another feather flew, sending her other arm to the wall. Jinx pulled against it and more feathers flew in her direction. "What are you doing?"

"Making the world a little less bright," she said, "one obnoxiously-colored fool at a time. The name's Xayah. Rakan's girlfriend, by the way. I love it when he sends me gifts."

The Group's Perspective

When the group arrived at the principal's office, Janna disguised as a completely different-looking adult with normally-colored hair, Jinx was gone.

"Of course she'd run," Poppy said.

"Why, Jinx?" Lux wondered aloud.

"She's still here," Lulu announced. "I don't know where but I can taste her around."

"Can you please start saying feel?" Poppy asked.

"But it's not a feel, it's a taste," Lulu said.

"We need to find Jinx so we can-" Lux began until Janna shushed them. Footsteps echoed through the hall as someone approached them.

"Love the hair colors," he said. He was a handsome guy with dark teal hair and a shirt made of feathers. "You look just like the girl I saw a little earlier."

"Wait," Lux called as he passed them. "A girl? Red hair?"

"More like crimson, kinda," he said.

"Where did you see her?" Poppy asked. "Where did she go?"

"I think she went to check out something in the language arts building," he said. "It could've been the science building? Definitely one of them."

"Thank you," Janna said. "What was your name?"

"Rakan," he smiled. "You're very beautiful, but I'm taken sadly."

"That sounds famili-" Janna started until Poppy pulled her and Lux along, Janna grabbing Lulu's hand.

"Where are we going?" Lux asked.

"To find her," Poppy said. "Lux, Lulu, take the language arts building. Janna and I will take the science building. If she's not in either, you guys take the gym and we'll take the electives building. If we don't find her, we'll meet back up on the football field and brainstorm where she ran off to."

"Sounds good," Lux said.
