Kendall has been staying at their apartment for almost a month. Gerri found him there on the couch one morning, after a night out with Roman. Ken looked at her blankly, said, "I thought Roman was kidding about you being here," then rolled over and went back to sleep.
"He's been having a hard time since the sale went through," Roman explained when he got up, in a low voice so as not to wake his brother. "So I said he could stay here for a while."
"How long is a while?"
"I don't know. I'm worried about him." Roman dropped his voice even lower. "He was like this before Chiantishire."
"And why is he sleeping on the couch? Plenty of bedrooms here."
"He just crashed out. I'll give him one of the rooms."
"I appreciate that you're a supportive brother, but…"
"I know, I know. It's only until he gets back on his feet."
It turns out moping-about-under-Gerri's-feet Kendall is just as insufferable as cocky-boss Kendall. He paces around the apartment when Gerri is attempting to work from home, wearing his big headphones and occasionally interrupting Gerri to tell her about his latest great business idea. Cosy nights in with Roman turn into awkward dinners for three, and any intimacy is out of the question with Kendall in the next room, although Roman tries to persuade Gerri otherwise.
"Maybe I should go back to my place for a while," she suggests eventually, as she's about to head out for work.
"What, no. I don't want you to leave. I'll kick Ken out, if it bothers you that much."
"No." She immediately relents, the offer enough to pacify her. "It's fine." She doesn't really want to be responsible for Kendall self-destructing again. She's covered up enough of his legal messes in the past to know what to expect when he unravels.
"Rome?" Kendall calls from the kitchen. "I think I broke your coffee machine."
Roman rolls his eyes and pulls Gerri into a hug, whispering in her ear, "Don't worry, I'm planning to murder him soon."
