They have Tom and Shiv over for dinner one evening. It's their first night out since the baby was born and Tom keeps anxiously checking his nanny-cam. "Will you relax?" says Shiv, rolling her eyes.
Over dinner Roman and Shiv have fun ganging up on Tom, as nothing brings them together like tag-teaming someone else (usually Kendall). Shiv makes some snide remarks about Tom being Matsson's puppet, to Roman's delight.
"Let's not talk about work tonight, shall we?" says Gerri, offering Tom a supportive smile.
"Amen to that." Tom raises his glass gratefully.
"It all worked out pretty well for you though, Gerri," Shiv comments, despite Roman's glare. "Did you still get the big Waystar payout although Tom decided to keep you on?"
"No," says Gerri tersely. "But my pay rise was enough to cover it." She smiles coolly at her goddaughter.
"So really, those dick pics from Roman were quite a boon for you."
"Do you really want to talk about your brother's dick over dinner?" Gerri asks.
"Yeah." Roman reaches for Gerri's hand supportively. "That's all in the past, right Ger?"
"Sure." She cuts into her steak without looking at him. Tom looks relieved to no longer be in the firing line.
"Your sister is a bitch," Gerri hisses at Roman later in the evening, when they have a moment alone together in the kitchen.
"Whoa there," says Roman, holding his hands up. He's the only one who's allowed to call Shiv names. "She's probably just hormonal."
"She's bitter because she didn't get to run the company," Gerri corrects.
"That too," Roman concedes.
"I wish you'd be a little nicer to Tom. He is my boss, technically."
"It's not like he's gonna fire you," Roman scoffs. "You basically run the place for him."
"That's not the point. You and Shiv are like little children together, picking on the outsiders."
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry." He draws her into a hug. "I'll be good, I promise. And if Shiv gives you any more lip," he affects an English accent, "you have my permission to smack her in the face."
"Promise?"
"I promise." He picks up the dessert and they return to the table together.
"I think we're gonna have to go." Tom is already reaching for his coat, his phone in his other hand. "The baby is unsettled."
"She's fine," says Shiv, sounding tense. "He's overreacting."
"If you need to go that's fine," says Gerri. "Or Shiv, if you want to stay, we can get you a driver later?" She looks at Roman, who nods.
"Thanks," says Shiv, who's clearly not ready to go.
"I'll see you later then," says Tom, bending down to kiss his wife. "Thanks, Gerri. Rome."
"I'll show you out," says Roman, leading Tom to the door as Gerri pours Shiv another drink.
