Arc 1: Wyvern Rebellion - Chapter 7|

-Magnolia Town's Mage Library-

The mage library was a modest and secluded place in Magnolia Town. With only so many wizards existing in the world, it didn't receive as many visitors as one would expect. The keeper of the library was an older man. He had dedicated his life to researching the history of different kinds of magic and relics. He would even look into known history to find the secrets other would miss.

However, he had found something that would change the history of the world as they knew it. He came across a book that spoke of not just two races several years ago living in peace. It was three. Dragons. Humans. And Wyverns. It was a curious thing. Wyverns were known to be mindless beasts. And yet, this document said otherwise. It was only one piece of evidence, but it was enough to warrant an investigation.

The door opened and a man walked through. His hair was black, his clothes consisted of a jacket, a crimson undershirt, trousers, boots, and an eyepatch. He made his way to the desk and looked to the old man.

"Got your message. You said you had something for me?" He asked. The old man nodded and placed the book on the counter.

"Thought this might be useful for your magic research." He said. The man picked up the book and opened it. He skimmed the pages.

"Wyverns were allies with humans and dragons? Interesting." He muttered. He read more of it. "How can you tell if this is a trustworthy piece of literature?" He asked. The old man tapped the book.

"There's a magic signature on this. The magic is old, but it's there. This is no ordinary book. It's a diary from a mage who lived during the time." He explained. The man's eyes widen. He let the old man show him the proof.

"A magic seal?" He asked. The old man nodded.

"This was written by the mage of the book. They used their own magic to seal the book and have it reawaken after a certain amount of time has passed." He explained.

"If that's true, then that means this book could contain ancient magic. This is quite the discovery." He replied, his voice rising a bit. The old man smiled.

"So you like it, hmm? I figured you would. You've been coming here for years. This might be the breakthrough you were looking for. I was lucky to come across it. I had some mages check the book. It's legit. You can take it." The old man replied.

"Thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me." The man said.

"Bah! At this point you're like the grandson I wish I had. The one I got is a menace." He complained. The man laughed.

"I see. Well, I hope I can repay the favor soon." He replied.

"You can repay me by telling me if you find anything of worth, Ewan. I'll keep searching as well. We might be able to uncover something interesting." The old man replied.

"Sounds good. I'll check in soon." Ewan said.

-Outside of Magnolia Town-

A roar was heard echoing through the forest followed by an explosion. Gideon's arms were full of his weapon shaped rock magic. He was pushed back, sliding across the ground, blocking a fireball from Fiora. The rest of the guild were on the sidelines watching the sparring match occur.

"Gideon, she's not going to give you an opportunity to attack. I suggest trying to make an opening rather than trying to find one." Basil advised loudly. Lyra had her arms crossed while watching, Abe hand his hands in his pockets, Coral had her hands clasped in the front, Viperion was sitting crossed legged next to Zephyr, with Sylph on his head. Luna stood next to Basil, observing the fight.

"Master, why are we doing a training session out from the blue?" She asked. Basil watched the two go at each other, Gidon shifting his tactics to be more proactive. The guildmaster was absorbed in the match, his eyes watching all the minute details. Luna looked over, seeing him focused.

"Master?" She asked again. Basil blinked a couple of times before looking down to her.

"Oh, sorry." He cleared his throat before speaking. He clapped his hands. "That's enough, everyone, please gather!" He yelled out. Gideon and Fiora stopped their movements, their faces sweaty and dirty from all the fighting. The Emerald Oasis formed a horseshoe around their guildmaster. Luna's questions reminded him that he hadn't shared his intent. To them, it must have been random. But he had a reason.

"Coral, please tell everyone you experience when you fought with that mage from that dark guild." He requested.

"Sure." She replied. "I was in Ocean Fusion and it may have seemed that I was able to take her down. But, this Lady Aisley, wasn't at her full strength. I could tell. The way she moved or rather, wanted to move, I can tell she is experienced in fighting. She used alchemy, something you all have probably never seen before, and is exceptionally strong. I believe if it was anyone else fighting her... the result may not have been the same." She nodded her head, but the infamous smile on her face was gone. What replaced it was a dark and grim look.

"Alchemy?" Fiora questioned.

"Yes. Alchemy is a type of magic that allows the user to manipulate matter using some type of energy. The magic itself is very powerful and unpredictable. No, we can't call it magic. It's fundamentally different," Basil explained. "It's a science. And that Lady Aisley is a master of the trade. If she is truly a member of a dark guild, then that guild is powerful and should be dealt with carefully."

He walked forward and his eyes met to each member. It had been several months since that mission. After talking with Coral and Abernathy, it was only a matter of time until something bad could happen. Something Basil wanted to avoid at all times.

"This training today is something that should have began a long time ago. I grew complacent since the older members were particularly strong. But now, we have four new members. And by no means am I saying you are weak. However, you are all my responsibility. I need to know you will be safe when I send you on requests or jobs. The fact of the matter is, I was reminded that there are dangers beyond simple thugs or monsters. There are mages that will stop at nothing to get what they want. There are mages that are trained in combat. We haven't had to face a truly strong opponent. But we will. We've grown a little too comfortable with the way things are. We need to prepare ourselves." Basil finished. He looked around, seeing the looks on his guild members' faces.

"That being said, I plan to step up training from here on. We'll begin by having the new members spar against the older members. And for the older members, I'll be having a talk with you on the side. There are some things we need to iron out." He informed, eyeing each of them. They all nodded.

"Alright! This is going to be exciting!" Viperion said with a smile. Basil looked at her and smiled.

"I'm glad to hear you're excited about it. So! Enough seriousness! There are four new members and four older members. I think that will make pairing up quite easy. I suggest you think carefully who you fight. Challenge yourselves. Pick someone you think you might have a hard time against. When I say that, I mean be realistic. Don't pick someone who's going to wipe the floor with you. Try to pick someone you might be able to beat. That goes for my senpais as well. Don't beat them. Teach them. Am I understood?" Basil asked. The guild members nodded. He stepped back and allowed the guild to decide amongst themselves their matchups.

"I want Coral!" Fiora yelled, pointing at the ocean haired woman. Coral looked to her and smiled.

"I'd love to! I've been wondering about your fire magic for a while. I'd like to test it out against my water." She responded. Fiora smirked.

"So, are you going to do Ocean Fusion or what?" She asked. Coral chuckled.

"Well, I'm not sure yet. It depends on the situation. Can you make me use it?" Coral asked with a smile. Fiora raised an eyebrow.

"Are you mocking me?" She asked.

"I wonder, Fi-chan." Coral responded, walking to the side to allow the others to pick their pairing.

Gideon walked toward Abernathy.

"Thinking back to our first mission, you showcased a little of your magic. Plus, your swordsmanship is exceptional. I would like to try and hold my own against you." Gideon said with a bow. Abe was taken back for a moment before scratching the back of his head.

"Man, you're really formal." He responded. He walked toward a tree and retrieved his scabbard. The sword itself wasn't special looking. It's blade was slender and sharp. The hilt was plain, no fancy decorations or anything of the sort. The sheath was the most unique feature of it. The entire thing was made out of wood, except the tip and the guard. They were made out of metal. He tied the belt around his waist and walked with Gideon.

"If you think I'm a good matchup for you, then who am I to say no." He replied with a grin.

Viperion approached Zephyr.

"Zephyr-senpai, I'd like to train against you." She asked.

"Senpai?!" He asked excitedly.

"Don't get a fat head. You're a senpai only in the amount of time you've been in the guild." Sylph cut in, hitting the top of his head.

"Ow! Hey, I didn't ask you!" He complained.

"Well, I'm just telling you the truth." Sylph replied, "Wait, if Zeph is a senpai, does that mean I'm a senpai too?" She asked aloud. The three walked off.

Luna looked toward Lyra. She nodded to herself and approached her.

"Lyra onee-san, will you spar with me?" She asked. Lyra turned and smiled.

"I'd love to. You've been growing a lot lately. I can tell you're trying hard. I'm proud of you. Are you ready?" She asked.

"Y-yes." Luna said, her eyes drifting to the side. Lyra held onto the smile, but in truth, she was just as nervous to fight Luna. Her mind became filled with all the unsaid things, all the things she could or should have said, and even her own regrets. But she buried it. For the moment.

"Then let's go." Lyra replied, walking off with Luna.

As everyone paired off, Basil sat down and took a breath.

"I will like to see everyone try their hardest. Here." He took his pointer and middle finger on each hands and placed them over each other in an X. A soft green glow appeared. He pulled them apart drew horizontal circles in the air. He pushed the circles into the ground. SUddenly, the earth began to shake. Everyone looked around, except Coral, who knew what was about to happen. The roots of the trees extended out of the ground and created an arena round them. The roots grew branches that reached up over them and created a half dome above. The branches grew leaves and flowers.

"And now, you can go all out. Full power to your heart desires." The newer members looked around in awe.

"Whoa. Master Basil's magic is crazy strong. He made this whole thing without blinking." Gideon commented.

"The Master's magic is amazing. It's rare to have someone who can manipulate nature. He's a very special mage." Abernathy said.

"It's beautiful, isn't it? He can create life as if it was as simple as breathing." Coral added. The guild members all stared at the arena. The sunlight came through the leaves and made the scene all the more beautiful.

"Stop it. You're going to make me blush." He spoke with a giddy tone. He turned his head away bashfully, in a joking manner.

"Now, without further ado, I will like to start the first training session of the Emerald Oasis. Viperion and Zephyr." The two nodded. They walked to the center of the arena and got into their fighting stances.

"I won't hold back." Viperion stated.

"That means I don't have to either. Sylph, may I invoke the contract?" He asked the elemental wind spirit.

"Of course, Zeph. Just don't get carried away." She answered.

"I'll try not to." He replied. He spread his arms out wide and breathed in deeply. His body began to glow white and green.

"I invoke our contract!" He cast. Heavy wind wrapped around his arms and swirled to circle around his feet. It lifted him off the ground, holding him up. Sylph fluttered near him and began to glow as well. She dissipated into wind and joined the rest of the swirls. His hair turned green and his ears became pointed like an elf.

"He's gotten stronger. Look how connected he is now." Abe commented.

"It seems his training with Sylph has been going well." Lyra added.

"Sylph is helping him become a master of Galestride. And she's only doing it because he's her chosen. Zeph's ability to command her is surprising." Basil said.

"I didn't expect that from a kid." Fiora said.

"I don't know how he did it, but he managed to gain Sylph's approval, despite his immaturity. The spirits rarely choose a chosen. And even then, they are usually adults." Abernathy added.

"I've read about it. The spirits can give their chosen their magical abilities. They can also imbue their chosen with their powers. It's a symbiotic relationship. The spirit grows stronger, and so does the chosen." Lyra explained.

Zephyr's entire demeanor changed. The mischief and playfulness was gone. His face showed focus and determination. Viperion closed her eyes, and wrapped herself in her exoskeleton. Her ant wings unfurled and extended. They were both ready.

"Begin!" Basil declared.

Viperion took to the air, her wings flapping, causing the air to stir. The wind surrounding Zephyr began to whip around. Zephyr dropped his hands and the wind launched him into the air. The two clashed, wind into armor. It became a battle for the sky. Zephyr's calm demeanor was a surprise to some of the newer members, becoming accustomed to his antics.

"This is what I saw when I went on that job with Zeph. I was surprised by how much he changes when he and Sylph work together." Gideon commented.

"Now that I'm thinking about it, it's interesting that Zephyr and Sylph have such a strong bond. Especially since they're so different." Lyra said.

"Spirits and their chosen are a rare phenomenon. The fact that it happened to him and he came to the guild is a stroke of luck, a blessing, or something else." Basil added.

"It might actually be a curse." Abe said with a smirk. Lyra hit Abe on the arm.

"Don't be rude. It's not a curse. It's just rare." Lyra reprimanded.

"Windstride: Winds path!" Zephyr cast. Passageways of windy slipstreams snaked all over. Zephyr flew into one and appeared to have disappeared.

"Whoa! Did he just-" Gideon started.

"Nah. He's moving faster than you can see." Abernathy explained.

Viperion whipped around, trying to find her opponent. From behind her came a crescent shaped slice of wind. She felt the incoming projectile and turned to block with her needles. She was blown back, having to land on the wooden barrier and rebound off, flitting to recover. More and more projectiles filled the arena, Viperion trying her best to dodge. Soon, her armor began to take damage, her doding becoming predictable.

"Vi-chan, you can give up. I won't hold it against you. Master said to go all out, so I am." Zephyr's voice echoing.

"No! I can't just give up!" She yelled back. Her wings fluttered as she flew higher into the sky, dodging the last of the wind slices. She rose high, only to see Zephyr standing in the air.

"Galestride: Torrent of Tornadoes!" Zephyr took a hand and waved it horizontally across his, creating spiral slices of winds toward Viperion. Rather than dodge, she took this as a challenge.

"Fenrir magic: Exoskeleton Steel!" She cast. Her armor shifted color and her hands began to glow. Her wings flitted faster than they ever had before. She braced herself and grabbed onto the spirals. She managed to hold them back.

"Holy crap!" Fiora exclaimed. She had never seen Viperion go so hard before now.

"She's strong. Really strong. And she's just using her natural strength." Lyra said. Basil smiled.

"I had a feeling that she had more strength than she was showing. It just took some coaxing. I feel like Zephyr was a good matchup. Fenrir Ant's are strong, but they never had to contend with an S-Class mage. Right, Abernathy? S-Class mage? Because I sent you to deal with the ants and not an S-Class mage." Basil teased. Abe gave him a wry grin.

"Yeah yeah, I heard ya loud and clear." Abe exhaled. Basil wasn't dropping the subject of him becoming an S-Class mage.

"Are you ready to keep going, Viperion? Or have you had enough?" Zephyr asked, pouring his magic into the spirals. They began to spin more and more violently, threatening to tear apart everything in its path.

"No. I have pride as a warrior. I will not stand down, even if it kills me!" She yelled back. With the last of her strength, she put more pressure on the spirals, straining to hold them back.

"Your body is giving out. I can see your fatigue. This is over." Zephyr stated. He increased the pressure more, nearly breaking her defenses.

"No! I-I can't. I won't lose! Not to you. Not like this!" She braced the spirals and used them as leverage to dodge out of the way. The spirals continued down their path. Basil stood and held his two fingers up. He did a scooping motion, and what followed was a crowd of tree roots snaking from the ground and whipping the spirals, dissipating them.

"I'd be upset if I didn't ask them to give this training everything they had." Basil commented.

"He's being a bit harsh, isn't he?" Fiora asked.

"No, he isn't. He's giving her a taste of reality. I love Vi-chan, but she's only known her life as a part of her colony. We want her to be as strong as possible." Coral expressed, her face showing an unusual serious demeanor as she watched the match.

"What about Zeph? I didn't think he could be serious." Gideon asked.

"This is the only way Zeph can be serious. It takes a lot for him to focus." Abe added.

Viperion was panting, but kept her wings moving.

"Vi-chan, you're tough. The only people who can stand up to spirit magic is Coral and Lyra. Abe too if he wasn't so lazy." Zephyr teased, but his face didn't change to his usual playful expression.

"Thank you for the compliment. I underestimated you, Zeph-kun. You're more powerful than you've let on. You only showed a glimpse of it during that prank you tried." Viperion's wings began to give out. She descended toward the ground. Zephyr gave a small smile.

"Master! Do we call it here?" He called out.

"Depends. Viperion do you give up?" He asked her. The Fenrir Ant took a moment before answering. She stood up right as she landed, the cracks in her armor all the more apparent.

"Not yet." She declared. Basil nodded. He understood her conviction but wanted to make sure she didn't push too hard. She aimed her needles at Sylph's chosen.

"Fenrir magic: Thousand Needles!" She cast. From her wrist numerous needles flew toward Zephyr. He waved his hand over the other.

"Windstride: Wind Blade Wall!" He cast. The wind moved around him and created a wall of sharp air. The needles hit the wall, but didn't rebound. Instead, they stuck to the wind, as if sticking to a normal wall.

"That is interesting. She empowered all of her needles with her magic." Luna pointed out, "She has a lot of strength left."

"Windstride: Wind Blades!" He cast. The wall of wind blades extended and cut through the needles. The wall of wind rushed toward Viperion. She took to the air, avoiding the blades. Zephyr looked over his shoulder and quickly moved out of the way. More needles hit his wind, sticking to it.

"She shot more needles? Where did they come from?" Gideon asked amazed.

"They were already on the ground, waiting for Zeph to make the first move. If I didn't know any better, this is the same thing as when ants can know if someone belongs to their colony. They have that sense of smell. I'm not sure if it's the same for Fenrir Ants. Since they can use magic, they must have a way of reading each other's Ethernano." Abernathy explained. The more observant members of the guild noticed the needles on the ground.

"Wow, I didn't notice them." Gideon continued.

"Oh, so she's drawing the needles to each other." Fiora said with a smirk.

"How are you feeling, Vi-chan? You look a bit tired." Zephyr asked.

"I-I'm fine. Don't get ahead of yourself." She retorted, trying to keep her guard up. She dropped to her knees.

"Vi-chan!" Coral called out wanting to help her.

"Now hold on. I think something is about to happen." Basil pointed. Viperion's armor continued to crack, lines racing around her body. Zephyr stepped into a wind tunnel and used to to race to the ground.

"Zeph, I think we've done enough." Sylph's voice echoed.

"No! Not yet! I will not give up! I can't!" Viperion cried. Tears began to roll down her face. She slowly rose, "I have to become strong. Coming here would have been for nothing! Aranix-san let me be here because he believed that I would become stronger. Strong enough to protect my comrades and the queen!" Her armor continued to crack, pieces falling to the ground, revealing her bare body underneath. Her magic began to rise, causing her hair to move. Her tears became lines beginning at the bottom of her eyes all the way down her cheek. Suddenly, her armor shattered, but the pieces swirled around her, her body glowing with magic. All at once, the pieces came back together, reforming into an exoskeleton that was sleek and powerful. Her armor revealed more skin that usual, her thighs and bust being revealed. Her magic flared about. The guild members were shocked.

"Did her armor just change?" Luna asked.

"Whoa. It looks so cool!" Gideon exclaimed.

"She's going to be unstoppable now." Fiora said. The senior guild members smiled.

"You think she finally learned a little more about being human?" Abe asked his fellow guild mates.

"Yes. I can see it. Her body is giving off a different aura." Coral answered. The armor glowed brighter, her hair flowing.

"Fenrir magic: Primal Exoskeleton!" The magic around her dispersed, and her armor settled. The exoskeleton was gold, black, and silver.

"I don't want disappoint Vi-chan, Sylph." Zephyr grinned. The young boy took to the air, using his wind currents to move. He formed a bow out of wind magic, using the wind as an arrow.

"Galestride: Air Arrow!" He cast. He let loose the arrow, the projectile speeding toward its target. It struck, kicking up dust all over. Emerald Oasis covered their eyes. As the dust settle, a small crater was left, but no Viperion.

"Zeph! Did you-" Sylph began.

"No, she dodged. I can feel the wind move."

"Then where did she-" Sylph started her question, but a warrior's yell echoed, as Viperion was moving across the air, her fist reared. Needles were protruding from her wrist, ready to strike her opponent. Zephyr's eye widened and put up his hands, summoning a hardened barrier of wind. Her fist made contact, pushing against the barrier. The young wind mage faltered slightly, not expecting the impact that he did.

It was a power struggle between the two. Viperion growled with effort, wanting to break through.

"Vi-chan moved so fast, it was like she teleport." Luna commented.

"Believe it or not, she ran to Zephyr." Basil explained.

"She what?! How?" Fiora asked.

"If I didn't have a connection to the wooden barrier, I would have never know. She ran up the wooden dome to Zeph's level and jumped at him from there. It's her first time in a fight like this, and she's adapting well." Basil commented.

Zephyr's hands began to falter.

"Zeph, your body can't take anymore." Sylph informed. Viperion continued to push, her needles slowly penetrating his defenses. Zephyr frowned, but understood.

"Master, I give up!" She yelled out. Viperion's eyes widen in surprise. Zephyr let his arms drop, the barrier disappearing. Viperion fell to the ground, but before she did, Zephyr used his magic to catch her. He floated her to the ground and placed her gently on the grass.

"Vi-chan, you were amazing!" Zephyr complimented. A swirl of wind covered him, returning him back to his normal form. As it disappeared, Sylph appeared, and began to fly around her chosen. Zephyr fell back and hit the ground.

"Master Basil! Please check him!" She requested. Basil stood and ran over, looking over the young member. Viperion's armor retracted, her clothing appearing with her magic.

"Is he ok?" She asked approaching as well. Basil placed a hand on Zephyr's forehead. His finger began to glow, plant roots snaking down touching at different places on his body.

"He's just exhausted. You pushed him quite hard." Basil reassured. Zephyr's eyes opened, looking up.

"Is Vi-chan ok?" The young S-Class mage asked.

"You should be worried about yourself! You held back so much!" Sylph scolded. Viperion looked to the elemental wind spirit.

"He was still holding back?" She asked.

"Believe it or not, Zephyr's magic blends well with spirit magic. So much so that he has near limitless power. But he knows he can't use it all, his body wouldn't be able to hold out. And doing so would cause so much collateral damage." Sylph explained.

"So, that means, he's stronger than me." Viperion said disappointed. Basil shook his head.

"It means that you are powerful in your own right. Not many people can make Zephyr push himself like this. It's just that he has his own limits. And he's learning and training, just like you. Being an S-Class mage isn't the end of it. Everyone should be learning and growing. And that includes me." Basil reassured.

"But, I lost. I'm still so weak." Viperion said in disbelief.

"Being strong isn't about winning. It's about learning. You were placed under considerable strain, and you found a power you wouldn't have before." Basil smiled. Sylph fluttered over to Viperion and tapped her on the nose.

"You didn't lose, Vi-chan. You won. You didn't give in and you kept fighting. If anything, you impressed him. Now he has someone to look up to other than Coral." She giggled. Coral walked over and placed a hand on the younger girl's shoulder.

"What Sylph is saying is true. You're so much stronger than when you first came here. You're more human than you realize, Vi-chan. I'm proud of you." The sea mage said with a warm smile.

"And it means you'll be stronger for the next fight. I'll be looking forward to it, Vi-chan." Sylph added. Basil's roots retracted.

"Are you going to keep pretending to sleep, or does Coral have to move you?" Basil asked Zeph with a smirk. Zephyr sat up quickly.

"I-I'll move." He replied, crawling toward his friends.

"Good, now I need to clean up this mess. Shouldn't take long. Just some replanting and magic and it should be good as new." Basil raised his hands, two fingers each pointing toward the ground. He drew green circles and pushed them toward the ground. The tree roots appeared once more, moving about, filling in holes and replacing damaged branches on the dome.

"I find it crazy that Master is able to do all this." Gideon commented, "I can feel all the roots below us moving."

"Basil-san's magic is unique. No one really knows where he learned it from." Coral answered.

-Magnolia Town, Mage Library-

Ewan sat in a desk area, skimming through the book. It recounted the experience of a human from several hundred years ago. They had spent time with the dragons, learning their language, and the culture. They even described learning their magic. But, from the way it read, the wizard wasn't practicing Dragon Slaying Magic. Ewan continued to flip until something caught his eye. Combining magic to create new ones. He leaned in close, his one eye darting across the page. It wasn't simply two elements existing side by side. It was two elements truly combining to become something new. Ewan's mind raced. Could it have been Dragon Slaying Magic? Perhaps a kind that no one has ever heard of? He had spoken to some of the wizards that were able to perform Dragon Slaying Magic. Fairy Tail had quite the number, from what he could remember. Though, it was hard since the one he was interviewing was constantly fighting with others in his guild. He had a better time speaking to the guildmaster of Saber Tooth, Sting Eucliffe, and another member, Rogue Cheney.

After being given the book, he sought out these wizards, hoping to glean anything about Wyverns.

-Magnolia Town, Saber Tooth Guild-

Ewan entered through the front, looking around and admiring the guild itself. It was certainly different from the one he was in previously. It felt a little more lively and comfortable. A few people noticed his presence. In particular, small little figures ran his way.

"Hello!" One of them greeted. Ewan looked down to see two cats standing on their hind legs. The one that greeted him wore a pink frog suit.

"Hello. I'm Ewan, a magic researcher. I'm looking for Sting-san or Rogue-san." He explained. The two cats looked to each other, then nodded.

"Please follow us." The one with the frog suit spoke. Ewan did as the little creatures instructed, following them further into the guild. They made their way up a flight of stairs and into a small office area. In it, Sting and Rogue were pouring over paperwork.

"Sting-san, Rogue-san, a mage researcher is here to see you." The little cat wearing the frog suit spoke. Sting and Rogue looked up from their papers, both surprised.

"Welcome, how can we help you?" Sting asked.

"Hello, I am Ewan. I am a researcher that specializes in ancient magic history and ancient magic. I'm in the middle of a research project, and it involved Dragon Slaying magic. I was told that you two were the few who could perform such magic." Ewan explained.

"Who told you that?" Rogue asked.

"An acquaintance of mine from Fairy Tail." He explained.

The two dragon slayers nodded.

"Yeah, we are. What is it that you want to know?" Sting asked.

"A long time ago, dragons and humans coexisted. This was a symbiotic relationship until disaster struck. As a result, dragons ceased to exist. Am I accurate so far?" The researcher asked, wanting to make sure he was on track.

"Yes, that is correct." Rogue answered.

"That disaster you're referring to was the result of a Dragon King Festival." Sting explained.

"Dragon King Festival?" Ewan repeated.

"It was a celebration between humans and dragons. There was a tournament where the winner was declared the new Dragon King." Rogue answered.

"Like the name, it was meant to be a way for the strongest Dragon to rule over all others. However, things didn't go as planned." Sting added.

"What happened?" Ewan asked.

"Well, there was a dragon that went by the name Acnologia. He wanted to be the Dragon King. He was ruthless, and killed any dragon that stood in his way. He even went after the dragons that weren't in the tournament. He bathed in their blood, and grew stronger." Sting answered.

"He became obsessed with power. And his victory was sealed when he defeated the original Dragon King. But the bloodlust he had did not subside. He continued to fight, even the humansFairy Tai that tried to stop him. It broke the peace that the dragons and humans shared, sparking the Dragon King War."

"Intriguing. My instincts were right on the money to seek you out. Acnologia, to think that the dragon Fairy Tail defeated was the cause of that tragedy. I recall that Fairy Tail guild had gone face to face with this dragon." Ewan expressed.

"I'm curious though. Why are you asking about Dragon Slaying magic? Were you hoping to learn it?" Sting asked.

"Not at all. I'm merely a researcher. I specialize in ancient magic. Your magic is something that few know, but is researched quite heavily in my field, believe it or not. However, there is a piece of history that I'm trying to confirm." Ewan explained.

"What piece of history?" Rogue asked.

"As you know, Dragons and humans had existed in the same time period. When Acnologia's campaign brought down the dragons, it affected the Humans. But, there was a third race of species that was affected by this event." Ewan explained.

"Third race?" Sting asked.

"That race is known as the Wyverns." Ewan revealed.

"Wyverns?" Rogue repeated.

"I was hoping to find out more about Wyverns and their relationship with the Dragons and the humans. Either of you two wouldn't happen to know anything about it?" The researcher asked. He was hoping that one of the Dragon Slayers could bridge that gap. They wielded magic from that era, which hopefully meant they'd know something.

"Sorry, I haven't heard of them." Sting answered.

"They don't sound familiar." Rogue added. Ewan sighed. He was hoping to find someone who knew something about them. But as expected, this lead was a dead end.

"If there's anything else we can help you with, let us know." Sting offered.

"I appreciate that. However, I believe I've taken up enough of your time. I won't hold you two any longer. Thank you for your time." Ewan bowed and left the office. The researcher left the guild building, looking up at the sky.
