Chapter 3 - July 2007

Rory POV

Throughout the rest of June and into July, Logan finished up everything that he had to do in California and moved into his house in Hartford. Colin, Finn and Logan, along with Mom and Luke helped me move into my house.

The Friday after we got moved into our houses, I called Grandma and told her that I would be bringing a guest with me and Mom. The plan was for Logan and I to tell the Grandparents that I was pregnant. I had no idea how they were going to react but I knew that they needed to know. "Mom, ring the bell." I said as the three of us stood on the grandparents front porch.

Mom sighed. "Fine." She said as she reached over and rang the doorbell.

It didn't take long before the front door opened to reveal Grandma's newest maid. The maid informed us that my grandparents were waiting in the living room for us. When we walked in Grandma was fixing drinks and Grandpa looked up at us. "Logan?" He asked confused.

"Richard, Emily. Nice to see you both. Thanks for having me tonight." Logan said as we joined Mom on the couch across from Grandpa.

Grandma immediately turned toward us at the sound of Logan's name. "Your Rory's guest?" She asked.

Logan nodded politely. "Yes. You see, Rory and I were catching up not too long ago and even though we love each other, we've decided to be friends. At least for the moment while we build our careers." He told grandma. He was good.

"Well it's nice that you guys can be amicable." Grandpa said. I couldn't help but give Grandpa a small smile.

While Grandma was fixing and passing out drinks, I realized that she was about to hand me a glass of wine. "Actually, Grandma, can I have a soda tonight?" I asked her.

"Of course. Everything okay?" She asked me.

I nodded. "Yeah. My stomach just hasn't been feeling too good." I told her.

"Alright." She said, before walking back to the drink cart.

"So, what's new everyone?" Grandpa asked changing the subject.

"Well…there's a few new things. The first being that I'm going back to school. I haven't been getting any positive feedback through Journalism so, I met with Headmaster Charleston and he told me that if I got my Master's Degree that he'd find me a spot in the English Department." I told them.

"Are you sure that's what you want?" Grandpa asked me.

I nodded. "It is. I mean, it's definitely a curveball from my original plan but I think that sometimes change is necessary." I told them. After Grandma handed me my soda, she sat across from us on the loveseat. She was watching me carefully. She knew. I could tell that she knew. "Actually…I have more news to tell you." I said.

"Really?" Grandma asked, and I nodded.

"In light of the fact that I will be going back to school to get my Master's Degree, Dad helped me buy a small house." I said.

"That sounds nice." Grandpa said.

"Why would you need a house? If your living by yourself, a condo, apartment or even a townhouse would be more beneficial." Grandma said at the same time as Grandpa.

"Well, you see…the reason that I need a house is because…I'm pregnant." I told them, my gaze never leaving my grandmother's.

Grandma sat there in silence. Grandpa was trying not to glare at Logan. And Mom…well Mom was doing what she does best, trying to be invisible.

Logan reached over and grabbed my hand, gently squeezing it in support. "We know that this probably comes as a shock, but Rory and I have a plan and we'd really appreciate it if you guys could support us." Logan said.

I sat there and watched as Grandma and Grandpa shared a look with each other. "We just want Rory to be happy." Grandpa said.

"I am. Logan and I are going to co-parent. I know that you guys probably think that Logan and I should get married but we've talked about it and well…I'm not ready. Just because we're having a kid together doesn't mean that we should get married." I said.

"A child needs both a mother and a father." Grandma snapped.

"I understand your opinion Grandma but our child will have both of its parents." I told her.

Grandma sighed with a huff. "I guess that's all that needs to be said." She said.

"It is."

The rest of July seemed to pass by without further incident. Logan and I went to our ob/gyn and were able to hear the baby's heartbeat and see it for the first time.
