Not Let's get on with the show!
Sora and Co were flying through the space in between worlds. They were still far from being completed in their journey, and they were looking for the next world to land in. "How about that one?" Sora pointed to a world to his left which looked dark and gritty. It resembled a city. Donald peered through the front window of the Gummi ship, he looked displeased once he saw the world Sora mentioned. "Isn't there a better one to pick? That world looks dangerous" "But Donald!" Sora whined, folding his hands over his chest. "They have some sort of signal, a yellow oval with a Bat! A Bat! And I wanna see the big city! It looks awesome! Can we please go there? It sounds like a great place to-" "We're NOT going." Donald sounded like he wouldn't change his answer, not that you could even get him too. Donald was the type of duck that was stubborn and didn't like the unexpected. A place like the one Sora was describing seemed all kinds of dangerous.
Sora sank in his seat, his arms still crossed. He watched the world get smaller and smaller, eventually fading from view. "Don't cha' worry Sora!" Goofy exclaimed, as positive as he could. "Despite most of the world's goin dark, there are still plenty that need our help!" Sora nodded, turning his head to Goofy then back to the window to look for more worlds. Sora then saw one. It looked to be a large beach, surrounded by forests. It looked beautiful. It reminded him of his old home. Sora sighed, he missed his home so much...his mom...Riku...Kairi. "How about there?" Donald looked to the world that was quickly vanishing as the Gummi ship flew. He slammed on the breaks hard. Sora and Goofy shrieked as they shifted violently in their seats. "Now there's a nice world!" Donald veered left and immediately headed for the world.
Once the Gummi ship landed, Sora and co began to walk the dense forest. Sora almost gasped when he saw the beach. Memories flooded into his mind. Kairi, Riku, and him all laughing while playing among the hot sand. The sounds of the ocean, the palm trees blowing in the wind. He walked along, quietly observing the area. There were houses and buildings, even those vaugely reminded him of home. A pang of nostalgia sent Sora in deep thought. This place was eerily similar to the Destiny Islands.
But Sora had to remember, this wasn't home.
His home was gone.
Sora didn't even realize he'd been spacing out as he walked. "You alright there, Sora?" Sora turned to Goofy. That brought the young keyblade wielder back to reality. He pushed down his feelings of longing , grief, loss, fear, and just...plastered his usual smile. "Yep!" He walked further along, not waiting up for his new friends who tried to keep up.
Once they got closer to the shore, Sora watched and simply listened for a few seconds as the waves crashed along the white sand. He closed his eyes. A memory from just a month prior resurfaced...
"Sora, you Lazy bum!-"
"-I knew I'd find you snoozing down here!"
Kairi... I'll save you. I promise.
"This world is similar to your home, right?" Donald wondered. Sora pushed the previous memory out of his mind and nodded slowly. "Yeah. It's ...strange. I know this isn't my home, but being here almost makes me feel as if I never left..."Sora spaced out again, not saying anything for a while. Donald and Goofy grew concerned. "Maybe this wasn't such a good place to land..." Goofy whispered , his one hand covering part of his mouth. "It's at least safer than that other world would've been." Donald whispered back.
Sora turned back to the two, putting on a slight grin. "Let's look around some more, if this world has any heartless we need to stop them!" Donald nodded. "That's the spirit! Let's look around!"
It didn't take long to find any heartless. There were quite a number of them further down the beach, but they were rather easy to destroy. After destroying about 10, Sora felt both relieved and accomplished.
"Great work, Sora! You're getting better everyday at that there keyblade!" Goofy complimented. "Eh, his stance could be better." Donald shrugged. Sora glanced at him. "Hey! Do you have to be so critical of me all the time?" He asked. "Well, I'm not going to coddle you like a baby. You need some toughness to get better." Sora rolled his eyes. "If you say so."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!"
"What was that?!" Donald asked. "I don't know, but we need to find out. I think It came from this way, Let's go!" Sora ran down the beach while Goofy and Donald followed.
The group encountered some more heartless as they follow the source of the screams, but they were easy enough to handle.
They eventually reached the source of the voice, and much to Sora's surprise, there were two teenage boys. Slightly older than Sora himself. One had reddish orange blonde hair who wore a dark red tunic. There was another who had blondeish green hair who wore a blue tunic stood in a protective stance in front of the other, They both looked quite frightened.
"WHAT DO WE DO, JAK?!" The first boy yelled, he covered his face with his hands.
"We gotta help them!" Donald cried. Sora summoned his keyblade, raising it in a battle stance. "Let's go!"
Sora and a heartless charged at each other. The heartless was fast, so Sora blocked the incoming attack. After that, he did a reverse slash knocking the heartless to the ground. Three more then surrounded Sora, he used thundera to zap two of them, then used Firera to blast the last one. He slashed at the four a number of times, eventually destroying them. Donald and goofy had to deal with heartless of their own, but helped Sora finish off the last one at the end.
The two teens were gobsmacked at these three strangers. They were in perfect synch with one another, and were defeating the monsters with little effort. They couldn't even keep up with how fast they were moving.
Sora unsummoned his keyblade as the last heartless was destroyed. The redhead teen ran up to the trio in awe. "Woa-oah! That was so cool! You were all like "GAH! WHAP!" And then you were like, "WHAM!" and that creature was all like, "BLEEEUUUGGHH" and, and, then you kept hitting it over and over, then-!" Sora simply stood there as this chatterbox went on and on. The other teen suddenly placed a hand to his friends mouth to shut him up, To which he then removed it slowly after a moment. "Sorry uh...I Ramble sometimes..." The redhead sheepishly rubbed his head. "I'm Daxter, this here is Jak. He doesn't talk much...at all, well, uhm... to strangers anyways." Jak gave a small wave while he was introduced. Sora looked at the two and smiled. "I'm Sora." "Donald!" "And I'm Goofy!" "Awww! You're so cute!" Daxter walked to Donald, he kneeled down and started to mess with him. Stretching his cheeks, and giving him head pats. Donald shooed his hand away, "Quit it, would you?" Daxter gave a small chuckle before getting back up. "Fine, fine." There was a small awkward pause before Daxter looked back to Sora. "Hey wanna hang out with us?" Sora blinked. "Hang.. out?" Daxter rolled his eyes. "Duuuuh, you hard of hearing or something?" Sora shook his head. "No...And uh...Sure. We can hang out. As long as Jak is alright with it?" Sora looked to the other teen who gave an approving nod. "Great! Let's go!" Daxter started walking in a random direction. Jak and Sora looked at one another, Jak just gave a shrug as he began to follow his friend. Sora and co just trailed behind Jak, following Daxter into the nearby forest.
The group were traversing the forest, Daxter was humming some tune to himself while Jak kept eyeing Sora curiously a few times as if he was sizing him up. This made Sora confused, but he didn't bring it up.
"So Where are we exactly? We're- uhm...travelers and i'm not sure what this place is." Sora felt as if he had to break the silence, and Daxter looked to him and smiled.
"This is Sandover Village, and if you ask me? A DUMP. You guys are lucky your travelers, Jackie here and I would love to leave this place and do something fun... say...we can't come with you can we-uUUHOOOOW JAK!" Jak had elbowed Daxter hard and shook his head disapprovingly.
"I know- I know, I know- you don't wanna just leave the old green bean alone and without warning. And especially not Kiera."
"Who's Kiera?"
"Oh" Daxter turned to Sora to face him. "She's a good friend of ours, known her for a loooooonnnngggg time. And she's SUPEEEERRRRR cute! I've been trying to ask her out for months now" Daxter explained, rubbing his side where Jak had elbowed him. He gave Jak a glare but didn't say anything.
The group stopped after a while to eat some local fruit. Sora felt like the environment was nice. He enjoyed the company he had, and the fruit he ate was pretty tasty. They sat on two logs that had a direct view of the beach. The waves continued to crash upon the shore, and birds that flew overhead squawked.
Sora took in a large inhale then exhale. "...Just like home." He thought. He looked over to his new friends. Daxter seemed jittery, like he had something on his mind. Jak too seemed like he wanted to say something, well as far as Sora could tell.
"Is everything okay?" Sora asked.
"Ooooooh, yeah, yeah sure- sure- sure it is...I just have uhm. A bunch of questions." Daxter rubbed the back of his head, glancing at Jak, he seemed to also have questions of his own.
Sora beamed a smile, "Go for it! Ask whatever questions you want!"
Donald instantly grew suspicious. "As long as they aren't too personal..."
Daxter clicked his tongue. "Where are you guys from? First of all. Second, where did you get that key? And third, where did you learn how to fight? Are you guys heroes?"
"Well- I'm- I mean we- uh- we're from... uhhhhhhh..." Sora looked to Donald for help.
"We're from somewhere far. We're passing through Sandover as part of our travels."
Daxter rolled his eyes. "Yeah, you said that already, but WHERE exactly? And where'd you get that key?" Daxter continued, looking at Sora.
"Uh well, you probably wouldn't know where we're from even if we told you- it's very very far away... and uhm as for my keyblade...Long story." Sora rubbed his hand behind his head and sweatdropped. Daxter didn't look too happy at that responce, as he grew a frown.
"Long story short, You can't get one.' Donald explained. Daxter just looked even more upset, his frown growing.
Daxter let out a long groan. "Fine. You folk like keeping secrets, eh? I guess that comes with being a hero?"
"Heroes in training!" Goofy corrected.
"In- training?" Daxter repeated.
"According to this guy, Phil, who's trained heroes before...he said we're just...trainees." Sora explained.
"What?! But you guys took out those...whatever they were so fast!"
"Heartless" Sora, Donald, and Goofy corrected.
"Whatever! I don't care- anyways, How are you guys just trainees? That's a load of bologna to me."
Sora smiled. "Thanks, Dax."
"No prob- Oh-?" Jak pulled Daxter close and whispered into his ear, covering his mouth with his hand. After a moment, they both pulled away "Jak wanted to ask, why do you seem...down?"
Sora blinked. "Hu-? What do you mean?"
Jak was about to say something before Daxter interrupted. "Yeaaaaahhhh...Now that I think of it- you do seem kinda down. I mean, I don't even know you all that well but even I can tell something's the matta, so...what's the matta?"
Sora fumbled nervously, putting on a forced smile. "Nothing! Don't worry about me! I'm fine."
Jak and Daxter looked at each other, troubled.
"You uh- you sure?"
Sora nodded. "Absolutely! I'll be alright."
Daxter looked a little unsure, but was suprised ad Jak got up, standing in front of Sora, placing a reasuring hand on the keyblade wielder's shoulder, giving him a small smile.
"Thanks Jak." Sora smiled back. Jak noded and returned to his seat.
"Hey so- I thought of something else. How come you look so weird?" Daxter asked.
"Weird?" Sora repeated. "What do you mean?"
"Well- Your outfit is- odd."
"Oh. This?" Sora looked down at his jacket. "It- I've just worn this jacket forever. It's not too heavy, it's light enough to wear while I'm running around my islands!"
"Oh! So you're an islander! Cool, Tell me more." Daxter asked inocently.
"Oh, Okay! Well, in fact, they aren't in this world-" Sora then gasped, putting his hands over his mouth.
"SORA!" Donald and Goofy both shouted.
"A-Another world?! What?!" Daxter blinked, Jak's eyes also going wide.
"N-No! Fo-forget I said anything I -I didn't me-I didn't mean to!" Sora sweat-dropped, waving his hands in front of himself franticaly.
"Oooooh No! It's too late for that, SPILL! SPILL! SPILL!" Daxter demanded, looking at his new friend.
"He's not gonna say anything!" Donald snapped. "He's supposed to stay quiet about that stuff!"
"What? But Wwhhhhyyyyyy?! That's so lame! You all are from another world?! That's so cool!"
"Well- Donald and Goofy are from a diffrent world then I am and-" Sora shoved his hands over his mouth again.
"SOOOORRRAAAAAA!" Donald and Goofy both yelled at him again.
"I'm Sorry!" Sora exclaimed.
Daxter and even Jak began to laugh, while Sora started blushing in embarrassment.
"Spill! PLEASE!" Daxter begged.
Sora looked to Donald and Goofy, who sighed. "I guess there's no harm in telling just the two of you, right guys?" Sora smiled nervously.
"Fine. But just simplify things-" Donald ordered.
So Sora did, basically telling the two of his homeworld, and why he and the others had to travel worlds. Jak and Daxter both listened closely. After he was donee, Sora leaned back.
"Soooo- That's that."
"Wow! That's so wild!" Daxter smiled. "I feel bad for your friend girl Kairi though, hope she's alright." Jak nodded in agreement.
"Friend Girl?" Sora asked.
"Well yeah, she's not your Girlfriend right? But rather, a friend that's a girl. So Friend Girl!" Daxter explained.
"Ah- Haha- Nope!" Sora chuckled "Not my Girlfriend. Just a friend who's a girl, you're right. Uh- Okay. Anyways, Yeah. I'm worried for them, my friends I mean." Sora admitted.
"Eh," Daxter waved his hand. "If they're like you, they'll be fine."
"You think so?"
"Ab-so-lute-ly! They'll be fine!"
"Thanks Daxter, I-"
"Guys?!"
The group looked to the right where they saw a young woman running up the beach in their direction. When she got closer, she slowed and stood in front of them.
"It's good to see you two, I was just-" She stopped mid sentence when she noticed Sora, Donald, and Goofy. "Oh hey- who are you guys?"
"Oh hi, I'm Sora!"
"Donald!"
"And I'm Goofy!"
The young woman smiled. "I'm Kiera, it's nice to meet you. I'm working on a project and was just walking around the village scavenging for spare parts."
Daxter got up from the log dramatically. "Well sugar plum, if you need any muscle to lift any...heavy equipment, I'm always available." He said with a smirk, adding in a little wink for good measure.
Kiera made a weird face at Daxter. "Suuuuuuurrrrrreeeee...Alright. Well, I'll be busy for a while, I'd stay longer, but I'm eager to finish my project. I'll see you guys later. Oh! I almost forgot, Samos wanted to see both Jak and Daxter for something. He says it was important."
"Uuuuuuuuggggghhhh" Daxter rolled his eyes, as well as slumping his shoulders. "What does old green stuff want NOW?!"
"I don't know." Kiera shook her head. "He just told me it was important."
Daxter huffed, "I hope to the precursurs he doesn't want me to sweep the hut AGAIN."
"Like I said, I don't know. Now, I gotta head out- It was nice meeting you three! Bye Jak~!" with that, Kiera walked away.
"So that's Kiera?" Sora asked, tilting his head. Jak nodded, his eyes looking in her direction as she left in a dreamy manner.
"She seems pretty nice!" Goofy observed.
"Ooooooohhh yes! Kiera is one 'nice' girl! And I'm not just talking about her personality, Eh, Jak? Eh Sora?" Daxter giggled as Jak stood up and gave him a small smack on the back of the head.
"Anyways- who is Samos?" Sora wondered.
"He takes care of Jak and I. And Kiera's Dad. He's a Green Eco sage." Daxter explained.
"E-Eco?" Sora put a finger to his chin. He had no idea was eco was.
"Eco is like- uh- a life force in our world. it comes in a few colors, I guess, and these people called Sages can harness it and they study it, and all that crap. Samos goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about green eco all the time." Daxter further explained.
"Oh- Okay." Sora nodded in partial understanding. "So we gotta go see him?"
"Uh- Correction- WE gotta go see him. As in just Jakie here and me. He's not... uh- too fond of newbies. it should just take us a few minutes. You can just hang out while we deal with- whatever Samos wants us to deal with."
Sora nodded, and the group walked to Samos's Hut. Daxter and Jak walked up the stairs and entered the hut, Jak making a 'Sushing' Motion as they entered.
Sora, Goofy and Donald all looked twords the hut and could just hear Daxter's and Samos's conversation, clear as day.
"THERE you two are! Where have you been?!"
"We were around!"
"I've been waiting for you knuckleheads to get back for forever! I need you two to do something for me-"
"Ugh-You're gonna make us clean AGAIN, aren't you?"
"Well I'm sorry, Daxter that you feel like a clean space is too much work, but I'd rather have my hut be spotless! Now grab the broom, and Jak, go and clean the dishes. NOW GET TO WORK!"
Sira, Donald and goofy both just walked away slowly from the hut, honestly feeling a bit scared of the eco sage.
