Chapter 30: Old Times
Elsewhere in the city right now more importantly where carmen lab was right now. Inside her along with pietro and will where doing something. That was testing penny on her so called semblance as she had a strange headgear strapped to her head with several wires attached to it as well. As the ginger haired girl messed with them for a moment
"Dad whats with all these wires on my head"penny asked nervous
"Calm down dear. Its just to measure your brain waves or patterns. Where trying to see what activated your semblance."will answered rleiving her a little with holly sitting their ciel who both knew her as kids
"So wait she just gets a strange little contraption on her head to find out her semblance?"holly questioned
"I don't think that what their doing because well…i mean look at the video again"Ciel said playing the video on her scroll with holly watching it as it showed penny shoving forward the huntsman and huntress like she had a gust of wind or something
"So she can control wind?"holly said but pietro shook his head with a different theory in mind
"Close. But dear i want you to try and move this can without touching it"pietro said placing a can of coffee on the table infront of her. This confused penny as she stared at it trying to make it move somehow. But as she kept thinking of a way to move it without touching it she found it impossible

"Dear from what we've gathered from the video. It would suggest a gravity or wind based semblance. But this is a theory maybe its related to your mind"carmine suggested her theory making her pause for a moment as ciel looked confused
"Why would she have a mind semblance? I mean their rare but their always just mind control or…telekensis"ciel said realziing what they mean by her semblance with penny figuring it out as pina appeared in her orb form from her hairclip
"Miss polindina mind does seem to have gone through a slight alteration. I detected new brain wave and gamma wave patterns in her mind. It seems she has developed a new brain wave with the emergence of her semblance"pina expertly epxlained
"So she can move things with her mind"holly said saying the dumb down version as will chcukled
"It appears so. But tell me dear how did this happened exactly?"Will questioned
This made penny think about what happened at the academy after their patrol. Everyone she met so far seems very kind along with that including adder. For some reason part of her told her that he wasn't as bad as everyone said he was
"I don't know i just…i was anger how they were treating tannin. I know he did awful things in the past. But everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves. "I think she just did it….owwwwww"ciel said as penny felt embarrassed with holly helping her up as pietro laughed
"It seems we found a trigger your emotions dear. But lets call it a day maybe you can go spend time with your new friends"peitro said as she gnelty nodded with her, ciel and holly leaving the mobile lab. But as they did they ran into the others with katherine growling as she was walking past them
"Uhhhh whats up with her"ciel asked

She rarely stayed here since she was an oprahned and immediately got taken in by amber at a young age. But they visited it once every year to let her pay respect to her parents graves along with someone amber knew apparently. Though as they walked mercury noticed her day dreaming
"Let me guess daydreaming about your time spent here in vacou"mercury asked startling her a little as she sighed
"Yeah i mean…i was born here a long time ago. Now that i think about it…thats where i met amber and cinder for the first time"emerald said pointing at a random spot in the street where some stalls and people where as he rolled his eyes

They walked through the streets for a good ten minutes as the path became familit to mercury and emerald as they where here before. They followed the two as they took a turn left down a alleyway with the others quick on their heels. With them soon arriving out of the alley seeing a familiar place right now
That being a two story building with a simple roof and the building it self was made of wood with brick reinforcing it. Their was an archway leading to the front of the building with a big enough yard for the kids to paly in. along with a fence going around the entire property but emerald noticed a sign above it
It read"lost ways orphanage"which made her sigh as she wished amber was still here because she said this was her pride and joy in her life.
"Just like how she said it…though this place seems packed"mercury commented as the place was busy
Their where kids in the front yard playing right and doing their best to keep an eye on them was nora and ren. Who decided to help out here with ren trying to break up two kids fighting with nora just picking up any kid she found cute squealing then hugging them
Close to the entrance sweeping right now was mari with nebula and gwen helping her right now as the two decided to help out here. With mari noticing them
"Oh great the military is here. Are you here to arrest my niece for being a former grimm hybrid"mari growled anger at the military for saying they want to excute diego since she met him in the past. Jules sighed
"Lady we have our orders…but uh…look lets not start something okay. For the kids"jule said with mari eyeing her down before scoffing.
"You guys here to help us out? Ren can managed the kids but nora is one herself"nebula said annoyed
"Come on its just nora. Besides…let her be happy for a bit. They both lost someone they considered family…their hiding it but i know their struggling"mercury said as the two knew that
"We know. But if your here to help chloe and tia need help inside with getting dinner set up for the night. Though those two won't stop shooting each other looks"gwen mentioned hinting at a possible connection between the two
"Sure might be fun since where suspended from patrols"emerald replied
Immedialty they walked inside as they where in the main lobby of the orphanage. Their was a fireplace in the room with a chair menat for some light reading. Along with some of the kids playing round inside with some being familiar from the families they know.
But their was a kitchen close by that was bigger as it had a large table that can fit several children or people on it without wasting space. Along with a large kitchen sink and dish washer with plenty of cabinets space for bowls and plates along with utensils for the kids here.
Inside the kitchen tia was cooking up some stew for the night with a blush on her face. As chloe was their with her shirt which made her clevage revealed a little but she kept blushing mad as they had an accdient early with the faucet. But they fixed it
"Okay what happen in here? Why are you soaking wet?"mercury asked making chloe blush as she swayed around standing
"Well you see um…a faucet was on the fritz and well…it sprayed me and i'm embarrassed now"chloe said with a blush quickly glancing at tia
"Yep! But uh you all here to help out we can get the food ready for the night. But we do need help on other areas of the place"tia asked as they thought about it for a moment
"I'm not good with kids. I'll just do manual labor or whatever"Adder hissed slightly walking away as emerald shrugged her shoulder
'Just point me and merc where we need to go"emerald said as they helped out here
What turned into a small visit for their friends mother business they helped out where they could. They had to put some new shingles on the roof since the place was abandoned a long time ago with mercury doing that taking about fifteen minutes to complete. But emerald tilled the garden and planted some fresh ones with the help of the kids as she enjoyed gardening as her hobby at times
But adder tried to avoid the kids but they kept following him around all over the place asking him to place. He did eventually relent in bitter annoyance playing with them but he did smile at one point. Ren helped cook up a nice meal with tia and chloe as nora played games with the kids to keep them entertained
What felt like forever soon enough as they where adding a fresh new coat of paint on the orpahgne sign that was bright red in color. It looked brand new as mercury sighed whipping the sweat off his forehead
"Done"he said getting off the ladder brann was holding as inside the kids where eating dinner with the other adults keeping an eye on them
Once they got down their mari had a cooler full of water for them with nebula digging into one sighing in immense relief
"If theirs one thing good about living here. Its that water taste the best since its so hot here"nebula said fanning herself
"You said it. I've never been to a place like this before buts its interesting"nora replied drinking some water herself. But adder remained unbothered by the heat as he preferred it
"Its not even that hot"Adder said as they stared at the reptile faunus
"Your a snake. Of course you'd love the heat you….can't come up with anything cleaver come back to me"tia said drinking her water feeling relieved. With mari sighing into a smile seeing this place again
'You know amber used to run this place back in the day. I was good friends with her and walker…its a shame shes gone. She loved this place"mari said
"Oh really? Well she did mention it a few times…cinder said how she grew up here for a bit after losing her parents. "Emerald replied as the bear faunus looked surprised for a moment
"I forgot about that. Actually hold on one second i need to go grab something"mari said to their confusion. As they took a drink break to stave off the heat for what felt like forever. Mari soon came back carrying an old dusty box as she set it down whipping the dust off of it. It seemed thick like its been left untouched for years
"Whats with the dusty old box?"nebula questioned as the women softly smiled
"I forgot that we did some cleaning to make a temporary daycare for the huntsman and their families. While doing some cleaning we found some old boxes in the attic, no one owned this place for years and well…i found these"mari said opening the box
Peering inside the box emerald and mercury went wide eyed seeing some stuff. That being old picture frames along with a album. Reaching inside emerald gently took the album as it felt thick with the dust. But she whiped it off opening it as she soften her gaze
Inside where pictures of amber with her aodptive daughter cinder fall. Along with a picture of the kids in the orphanage with her at the front standing close to amber. Their was also one with amber posing with her teammates on the day they formed team SAND.
"Ohhh its cinder…was this her home?"nora asked as mari nodded
"She was one of the kids nadia and her rescued from the slavers here. My friend found her two kids…and amber found herself a daughter. But…knowing why she ran away is upsetting"mari said to some confusion
'Why would she run away?"gwen questioned with emeral fighting the tears
"She was the previous fall maiden…and then cinder became the next…then they used us to do their dirty work"emerald said ready to cry which they noticed as someone unexpected consoled her that being adder who placed a hand on her shoulder
"Look…i know it hurts with everyone you've all lost. But cinder was one of the good ones, believe it or not it was nice seing someone else their that wasn't deranged like scar or rosemary"adder commented
"Really? Deranged is an understatement that kid chopped off someone leg"tia replied but he cotninued
"But your still here. She may be gone thanks to bonnie along with everyone else…but the best we can do is keep on living for them. Lets enjoy the time we have because who knows if the world will end tomorrow or not"adder said patting her on the back as they headed off inside to continue their work. With emeral sitting their just a little longer before smiling sighing as her heart raced a little faster seeing how kind he was.
Elsewhere in the kingdom inside a local bar right now someone was drowning his sorrow in anger for what he heard last night. That being declan who was in a simple bar and sports environment. Their where a line of drinks on display along with that some tv playing some pre recorded sporting events since everyone doesn't have time to play for the end of the world right now
With him was fenix, asher, arrastra, nix, amrboise, dravan and jake right now. With tai grabbing another drink sighing as also with them was vergil who stayed silent the entire time as he felt very scared right now as he noticed declan continuously glaring at him
"So anyone else wanna talk about anything else right now"tai asked breaking their silence as asher growled
"Talk about what? We have a stupid soldier keeping tabs on us right now. Since they think we'll go out their and try to save my leader"amrboise said gesutrng to vine close by near the entrance of the bar right now. He was tasked to keep an eye on declan but he knew he wasn't welcomed here
Nix scoffed in his direction"yeah the creepy pale guy. I mean seriously i get they want their stupid precious water safe. But we lost our leader twice"nix said before downing another drink of liquor
Arrstra sighed rubbing her face"Come on nix. I get your pissed…but i can agree its bullshit what their doing. You didn't see a little kid begging for mercy at least"Arrstra said still startled by that day on the airship for havan right now after all this time
With declan growling as he dug his nails into the counter scratching the wood slightly. As he was anger that the general told him to his face they were to execute him. But what made it worse was that he told it straight to diego wife and daughter face enraging him. He asked some old friends he had here to console her

"I suggest you leave and get out of here before we have problems"fenix said as he looked down getting up to leave. But ambrosie pulled him by his arm making him sit back down before he glared at his friends right now
"My boy over here aint leaving. For one verg here is on our side for wanting to use the blessing to save diego"ambroise said to their shock as they didn't buy it
"Bullshit. I mean…your dad is that racist little jerk. He was rude as hell to everyone back in mistral"Arrastra recalled with vergil sighing looking down messing with his drink
