AN: I do not own any rights or characters to Harry Potter. This is just a little fun writing project I'm doing based on prompts and canons I've read. Stories are not perfect, but I did try to catch as many errors as possible.
Wedding of Harry Potter
Prompt: 1) At Harry's Wedding Molly danced with him for the mother-son dance. 2) When Harry was 4 years old he found a beautiful flower and gave it to Petunia and said "Happy Mother's Day". When Harry left the room, she started to cry, the flower was a lily.
It was a beautiful and refreshingly cool October afternoon as he looked over the surrounding valleys of Heath Mynd, Ginny and he had fallen in love with the lands in Shropshire Hills, England when they had spent the whole summer after the War traveling all over England just to get away from the sadness for a little while. They had been staying in Norbury, a little village not too far away, and had been directed to this hill by one of the locals; they had been told it was one of the most beautiful views in Northern England. Now, they returned two years later to host their wedding on the hill. They had arrived early that morning to set up the tents and tables, Hermione and Fluer helping Molly decorate everything after Arthur and the boys got everything up and in place. Bill and Charlie had followed up and placed charms over everything to ensure that the wind could not creep through the cracks, and that all the guests remain comfortable during the festivities.
Looking behind him towards the makeshift altar he could see the guests still slowly trailing in, though almost all the chairs were full. They had not invited all the wizarding world, choosing to keep it rather modest and intimate, though a few guests had been the topic of controversy. He smiled softly when he saw a pair of such guests warily walking through the arbor to the seating area and taking seats in the back row. Ron was coming towards him while continuously glancing over his shoulder at the newest arrivals, clearly not approving of the new arrivals but had wisely chosen the remain quiet after his last attempt to argue the point was met with punishment from both Ginny and Hermione.
"Hey 'arry, you better get ready to get in place, it is almost time for the ceremony to start."
"Alright, I was just fixing to head that way. These dress robes are stuffy, and I needed to just get a bit of cool air before I'm surrounded by everyone in the tents."
"I know what you mean, but at least these robes are better than the ones we wore in fourth year for the Yule Ball, I'd go bloody mad if I had to smell like Great Aunt Tessi again."
Harry laughed at the memory. "My robes weren't that bad then; you were the only one with the unfortunate luck."
"Yea yea, well come on everyone will be waiting on us to get started."
They made their way across the golden field as the last guests made their way to their seats, Ron going back to the dressing tent designated for the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Harry went back to his smaller tent to put on the last of his robes, excitement starting to really run through his body at the knowledge that he would soon be married to his soulmate. As he pulled on the last of his robes her heard the band begin to play indicating that the groomsmen and bridesmaids were to begin walking down the aisle to the alter. Ron and Hermione, Neville and Luna, and finally George and Angelina. He came to the arbor entrance just before George and Angelina separated to go to their respective places, then made his walk up the aisle the way Molly and Arthur showed him to not be rushed or too slow. Upon taking his place before the Minister of Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, the music changed to announce the arrival of the bride, everybody stood and turned to the entrance.
Ginny was radiant, the most radiant thing he had ever seen as she made her way up to him, Arthur walking her with his head held high and probably with the happiest smile he had seen since before the War. Her dress was simple yet elegant with an A-line design of white cotton with a delicate lace overlay, the sleeves were two wide panels of the same fabrics as the rest of the dress that fell to her knees and allowed her arms to play peek-a-boo around them. The neckline was a gentle V-neck accentuated with a delicate pearl necklace on a short silver chain. Her hair was pulled into a low bun with a few wild tendrils to frame her face and a simple woven crown of leaves and vines adorning the crown of her head.
"Who gives this young lady away?" Shacklebolt said.
"Her mother and I." Arthur handed Ginny's hand to Harry then before taking his seat next to Molly.
The next few minutes passed in a blur, then Shacklebolt was announcing her could kiss his bride and announcing them as Mr. and Mrs. Harry Potter. The roar of the guests' clapping surrounded them as they made their way back down the aisle, both smiling and laughing the whole way down the carpet that was littered with pristine white rose petals.
One hour later…
Harry and Ginny smiled across the small crowd of people slowly moving towards the dance floor while others finished eating the light meal provided. George picked up his wand and held it to his throat while wordlessly casting the Sonorus spell to be heard over the noise.
"Ladies and Gents, on behalf of my sister and new brother-in-law I thank you all for joining our family on this wonderous day as these two kids finally tie the knot, Gods be good it took him long enough to ask her. Did you know that Ginny actually made the first move, way back when she was but a wee first year!" A spoon went whizzing by George's head, he only just managing to duck out of its path. "Apologies, apologies, little sis. It is time for the Bride and Groom's first dance, so if everyone would clear the dancefloor, please."
He guided her out to the makeshift dancefloor and pulled her in to begin a simple waltz and they spun around the floor. As the song came to an end the band moved into another song, Arthur and Molly came up and asked to cut in, Harry happily let Ginny dance with her father and took Molly's hands into his. George announcing the father-daughter and mother-son dance. A small wave of sadness washed over him momentarily at the thought of his own mum who was not ever going to experience these events with him, but Molly gave him a tight embrace.
"I know I am not your real mum, but I hope you know I have always loved you as if you were one of my own. You can always come to me about anything."
"Thank you, you have always been the best mother figure I've ever had, I honestly don't know where I would be if I hadn't met all of you."
She smiled and patted his cheek in that all too familiar motherly way that made him feel as if he had always been part of the Weasley Family. They swayed around the dance floor for a few more turns before the song ended. As the band began a new tune more dancers took to the floor, Harry and Ginny took this opportunity to mingle with the other guests. In one corner they found Petunia and Dudley sitting awkwardly eyeing everyone who walked too close to their little table.
"Aunt Petunia, Dudley." Harry smiled softly at his two family members. "Thank you for coming today."
Petunia stood hesitantly and in an odd show of affection leaned in to give Harry a soft kiss on the cheek, Dudley shaking his cousin's hand.
"It was kind of you to invite us, I'm sorry Vernon couldn't be here, he just was not feeling well this morning." She smiled as she turned to Ginny. "We have something for you, my dear." Petunia held out a little box unwrapped but tied shut with a simple yellow ribbon.
"For me?" She took the box gently from the older woman and carefully untied the ribbon.
Inside the box was a delicate brooch in the shape of a lily. Petunia took the brooch from the box and carefully pinned it to the shoulder of Ginny's dress, her eyes watering some as she did so. It wasn't really Ginny's style, but she could tell this was meaningful to the woman before her so did not say anything against the brooch, not that she truly would have in any case.
"I don't know you very well, but when I saw this in the shop window, I was reminded of something Harry did for me a long time ago when he was just four years old. I had sent the boys out into the garden to play so that I could get things taken care of in the house. Harry had seen Dudley give me a flower for Mother's Day earlier that morning, and while they had been in the garden he had wandered over into our neighbor's yard and picked one of her flowers to bring to me. I remember him coming into the kitchen and holding this beautiful white lily up to me and wishing me a Happy Mother's Day with the biggest smile on his face. I could barely keep myself from crying in front of him, so when he ran back out to finish playing, I finally broke down and cried so hard for several minutes. Without even knowing it he had reminded me of my baby sister, Lily. I hadn't thought of her in so long it just hit me, especially since he has his mother's eyes."
"How sweet!" Ginny pulled Petunia into a hug catching the older woman off guard, then, she turned to Harry with a mock pout. "How come you never bring me flowers?"
"Dudley, how have you been?" Harry shifted to his silent cousin.
"Well. I'm going to university now, got in with a scholarship for football, but I think I'm going to study business, and culinary. The idea of opening my own bakery has been on my mind since I started learning how to bake from Mum when we had to go into hiding."
"That's a splendid idea, your mum always made wonderful desserts."
Petunia smiled at the compliment her nephew willingly gave even though she had treated him so badly as a child. She blinked away the moisture in her eyes as she saw a tall and lanky red head coming up behind Harry and his new wife. The newcomer gave a polite tilt of his head and said hello before asking to steal Ginny away for a dance. As the two walked away to the dance floor Harry turned back towards them.
"How are you all adjusting to being back in England?"
"It is nice to be back, though I do miss our house on Private Dr, it was the first real house we could build a life together in. So many memories."
"I'm sorry you couldn't move back there, but we were correct in assuming the Death Eaters would come looking for you there. The house was demolished by them, the police said it took them days to clear the mess. However, I did find a small bit of good news while speaking with the police, the plot is still under Vernon and your names, so you have a few options available to you. You could rebuild if you want to live on that street again, and I will help in any way I can seeing as you raised me, and it was because of me that the house ultimately got destroyed. Also, you could sell the plot, the land is still valuable, only took minimal damage and most of that has grown over anyways."
"That is a bit of good news, isn't it Dudley." Her son gave a small smile and nodded.
"I'll send the paperwork to you in the morning before we head out, so you don't have to wait for it or have to go down to the station and get something I already obtained."
Petunia thanked him and he bid them goodbye to go say hello to the remaining guests. Ginny joined him once more after she had finished dancing with her brother, tears threatening to fall from her eyes. Petunia watched them approach a young man with platinum blonde hair who was sitting with an older woman who looked as though she could be the boy's mother, no one else sat with them. Petunia touched Dudley's arm and motioned that it was time for them to go.
Harry and Ginny stood before their former classmate and his mother; Draco looked a little drawn but otherwise less haunted than the last time Harry had seen him at the trials. Narcissa was holding herself with all the grace and dignity she had much like she always had the few times he had seen her. They had been warily watching the other guests around them anticipating being verbally assaulted for simply being there.
"Mrs. Malfoy, Draco, you both are looking well." Ginny started with a sincere smile. "Are you enjoying the food?"
"Yes, dear, everything is delicious." Narcissa smiled a little wariness leaving her features. "You look radiant in this gown, who made such a beautiful piece?"
"My mother and sister-in-law, Fleur designed it together, they will be so pleased you like it too."
"Draco, thank you for coming, I know we haven't really been on the best of terms since we were first years, but I hope moving forward we can remedy that?" Harry held his hand out to his former enemy to shake.
The blonde eyed him carefully, and after a few seconds shook hands. "To new beginnings, of which I owe you and Granger our gratitude."
"Just prove us right and that is all the gratitude we need; we know what actions you did to help our cause and we will stand behind them if they come into question."
Draco nodded in understanding before turning his eyes to the new Mrs. Potter. "My mother tells the truth; you do look radiant." He took her hand and placed a gentlemanly kiss on her knuckles.
"Thank you, when we get back from our trip, you should join our family for Sunday dinner, Mum's food is the best and she would love having guests over."
"We would enjoy that very much." Narcissa smiled. "I would very much like to get to know your mother better, it is no ordinary witch who can take on and beat my sister Bellatrix."
"Mum is ferocious when it comes to her children, even Harry since the day she met him. I think she always knew Harry and Ron would become friends."
"I will have to keep that in mind."
Harry and Ginny bid them farewell as they continued their rounds to say hello to everyone. Once back at their table they continued to watch their guests mingle and dance, Harry even spotted Draco approach Hermione and ask to cut in on her and Ron's dance. He could tell it was partially to annoy Ron, but the sincere and apologetic expressions as he spoke to Hermione told him that Draco was seeking either forgiveness or approval of something from Hermione. Ron walked away in a huff, soon finding his way up to their table where he slouched into a chair and glared across the room at the former slytherine. Ginny rolled her eyes at him before taking notice of George moving towards them, when he reached their table, he held his hand out for Ginny to take and said this dance was for him. Later that evening as they would be getting ready for bed Harry would ask what George had meant, Ginny explaining that their first dance was to honor Fred, and the second was for him to dance with his little sister for himself.
End.
