Same Day: Hospital

Inside: Sadie's Room

Steven is sitting down on a chair as he visits Sadie, who is now old and lying back in a hospital bed. Mabel is off somewhere else, leaving the two alone to talk. She knows Steven needed time with someone he knows before he went into the ice, and that person is the one he was talking to before he crashed.

Steven looked at pictures of Sadie, her son, Jenny, and her family on her bedside table, "You should be proud of yourself, Sadie." He picked up one picture of her and Mabel when Mabel was 8 years old. They were both making kissy faces at the camera. Steven chuckles softly and quietly at the picture.

A very old Sadie hums as she glances at her pictures as Steven puts the frame back, "Mmm." Her British accent is still there, "I have lived a life." She looks at Steven, happy to see her best friend once again, "My only regret is that you didn't get to live yours." Steven looks down, sad. Sadie leans her head against her pillows and looks at Steven, "What is it?"

Steven takes a second before explaining to Sadie honestly, as he always could go to her for advice or anything, "For as long as I can remember, I just wanted to do what was right." He looks at her, "I guess I'm not quite sure what that is anymore. And I thought I could throw myself back in and follow orders. Serve." He smiles slightly at the irony, "It's just not the same."

Sadie chuckles, "You're always so dramatic." Steven rolls his eyes playfully as he looks away. He should've known he would get that from her, thinking, 'Same old Sadie.' Sadie tells him seriously, "Look, you save the world." She looks away, smiling, "We rather... mucked it up."

Steven tells Sadie softly, "You didn't. Knowing that you helped found SHIELD is half the reason I stay."

Sadie grabs Steven's hand and holds it to her lap, making him lean forward, "Hey." She says, grabbing his full attention. She tells him seriously, "The world has changed, and none of us can go back. All we can do is our best. And sometimes the best that we can do is to start over." Sadie coughs, looking away from him.

Steven quickly turns and sees a glass jug of water. He stands up, pours a glass of water, sits back down, and hands it to Sadie as she stops coughing. Standing over his seat and holding the glass of water, Steven says, "Sadie."

Sadie looks back at Steven. Her eyes widened in shock as if she was seeing him for the first time since he was frozen, "Steven?" At this moment, it reveals that she has Alzheimer's disease.

Steven looks at Sadie softly, "Yeah?"

Sadie gasps, "You're alive!" She starts to tear up as she looks at Steven for the first time, even though he's been coming to see her for the last couple of years since he awoke from the ice, "You... you came-you came back."

Steven smiles softly, whispering in agreement, "Yeah, Sadie."

Sadie cries, "It's been so long." Steven looks at her sadly for leaving her and her condition, "So long."

Steven assures Sadie with a small smile, "Well, I couldn't leave my best girl. Not when she owes me a play date." Sadie chuckles at that, remembering their deal/promise before he crashed.

At that moment, the doors open, and a man in his late 60s, almost in his 70s, walks in: Lars Barriga Jr, Sadie's and Lars's son.

Lars Jr looks up and is taken aback as he sees someone in the room, "Oh, hello." Of all the times Steven has visited Sadie in the last couple of years, he hasn't met her son, Lars Jr.

Steven is stunned to see Lars Jr all grown up, so he slowly gets up from his seat. Sadie turns her head to see who came in and smiles as she sees Lars Jr, "Oh, sweetheart, come on in. I would like you to meet Steven Universe." Steven walks around Sadie's bed and shakes Lars Jr's hand in greeting.

Lars Jr smiles as he shakes hands with Steven, "It's great to finally meet you, Steven Universe." Steven nods and says something but is interrupted by Mabel opening the door and walking in.

Mabel apologetically looks at Steven and Lars Jr as they let go of each other's hands, "Oh, sorry. Was I interrupting something?"

Lars Jr shakes his head, "Not at all." He smiles at Steven, "Just meeting the man that saved not only my mother's life but the whole world."

Mabel jokes, "Yeah, he's got this undesirable urge to save the world."

Steven laughs, playing along, "Yep, that's me." They all chuckle at that.

Sadie smiles at the sight of them, "This is beautiful." They all look at Sadie, "I'm so glad to-" She gets cut off by coughing again.

Lars Jr rushes to Sadie's side as Mabel walks closer, and Steven quickly walks around the bed, grabs the glass he put down earlier, and passes it to Lars Jr, who grabs it and holds it to Sadie, "Here, Mom, drink this." He helps her drink the water by holding her head up and tilting the glass as she drinks from the glass. Mabel walks around the bed and stands beside Steven on his right, looking at Sadie sadly. Once Sadie's finished with the water, she leans back to her pillow. Lars Jr tells her softly, "Rest now, momma." Sadie closes her eyes and falls asleep.

With tears in her eyes, Mabel leans on Steven's side as he rubs her back smoothly. Both are sad about Sadie's condition, and Mabel asks Lars Jr, "How has she been?"

Lars Jr sighs, shaking his head, "She's been struggling." He looks up to the two across the bed, "But ever since she heard Steven was back, she's been different, happier."

Steven smiles slightly, "I'm glad that she's happier."

Lars Jr raises his eyebrows as he remembers something, "Oh, my mother wanted you to have this." He unzips one of Sadie's bags that he just brought and pulls out a gift.

Steven lets go of Mabel, and she takes a step back. Lars Jr hands the gift to Steven across the bed, who takes it, confused. Steven unwraps the gift to reveal a small photo album with the words 'Family Forever' on the front of it.

Steven sits down in his previous chair and opens the album. In the 1st picture, Lars has his arms around Sadie from behind, her hands on his arms. They are both smiling, and Lars's head leans on hers as they look out into the distance, standing by the water in New York.

In the 2nd picture, Connie is on Steven's right side, her left arm around his waist and his right arm around her shoulders. He is in his Captain Universe outfit but without his helmet on, and she is in her military outfit. They are laughing at something someone said while standing by a military vehicle.

In the 3rd picture, a pregnant Sadie is kissing Lars's cheek as he smiles after Lars and Connie are rescued by Steven and reunited (From Captain Universe: The First Avenger - Chapter 7).

In the 4th picture, a small Steven is on the army base with Sadie, both standing beside each other, looking in the distance, her hands on her hips as his arms by his sides.

In the 5th picture, Connie and small Steven happily kissing each other on the lips as they're at a carnival with fireworks going off in the background. Connie's right hand is on his cheek, and his hands are on her waist.

In the 6th picture, Lars is with Sadie dipped in his arms, kissing happily. They are also in the same carnival, with fireworks in the background. Her arms are around his neck and shoulders, his on her back and waist.

Steven smiles sadly and emotionally, with tears in his eyes, as he sees all the photos of his family and friends from his youth. Mabel looking at the album from over his shoulder, rubs his right shoulder in comfort, with a small smile on her face.

The Triskelion: S.H.I.E.L.D. HEADQUARTERS

Inside: Rick's Office

Rick is alone in his office, standing behind his desk, facing and looking out the window with his hands behind his back. After a moment of silence, he voice commands his voice-controlled-SHIELD-computer, "Secure office." The doors and window automatically lock and all the windows blacken. Rick turns around and holds in front of him the flash drive that Pacifica had downloaded all the files from the Lemurian Star ship. He places it in his computer panel, voice commanding, "Open Lemurian Star's satellite launch file." His right-hand fingertips are on the desktop as he looks at his big screen on the wall across from his desk.

The SHIELD computer scans, then beeps, a female voice saying, "Access denied."

Rick, confused, walks around his desk and demands, "Run decryption."

The SHIELD computer scans again, trying to decrypt the files, but beeps, "Decryption failed."

Rick demands again, slowly walking forward, "Director override. Sanchez, Rick D." He stops walking, looks at the screen, and places his hands on his hips.

The SHIELD computer enters his override but immediately beeps, "Override denied. All files sealed."

Rick is now frustrated and demands, "On whose authority?"

The female SHIELD computer voice answers, "Sanchez, Rick D." Rick looks at the screen, confused and worried.

Elevator

Rick commands the floor he wants to go to, "World Security Council."

The SHIELD computer's voice says, "Confirmed." The elevator door closes and Rick turns around, facing the doors with a hard look on his face.

World Security Council Meeting Room

A man named General Nathan is holding a virtual meeting with the World Security Council. 4 chairs are spread out in a row with 4 large glass windows/half tubes, and the 4 hologram World Security Council sits in their seats in a row.

World Security Councilman Rockwell sternly says, "If Rick Sanchez thinks he can get us costumed thugs and STRIKE commandos to mop up his mess, he's sadly mistaken. This failure is unacceptable."

Councilman Singh immediately says, "Well, considering this attack took place one mile from my country's sovereign waters, it's a bit more than that. I move for immediate hearing."

Councilwoman Hawley cuts in, "We don't need hearings. We need action. It's this Council's duty to oversee SHIELD."

Councilman Yen speaks up, stating the obvious, "A breach like this raises serious questions."

Councilman Rockwell adds to Yen's statement as Nathan slowly and silently paces back and forth across the room, listening to the 4 council members, "Like how the hell did a French pirate manage to hijack a covert SHIELD vessel in broad daylight?"

General Nathan finally speaks up. Behind him is a large glass computer screen/wall, "For the record, Councilman, he's Algerian." He jokes, "I can draw a map if it'll help."

Councilman Rockwell leans back in his chair, not amused by the joke, "I appreciate your wits, General Nathan." He's giving Nathan a hard look, "But this council takes things like international piracy fairly seriously."

Nathan looks at all the council members and paces again, "Really? I don't. I don't care about one boat. I care about the fleet." He gestures to the council with his arms spread by his sides, "If this council is going to fall to rancor every time someone pushes us on the playing field, maybe we need someone to oversee us."

Councilman Yen quickly says, "Mr. General, nobody is suggesting..." He stops talking as they are interrupted by Nathan's assistant silently walking in and whispering something to Nathan's ear.

The assistant walks away as Nathan tells the council, "Excuse me."

Councilman Rockwell asks Nathan, amused as he walks away, "More trouble, Mr. General?"

Nathan tells the Councilman, "Depends on your definition." The 4 large glass windows/half tubes lower down in the floor, turning off the holograms as the meeting ends and Nathan leaves.
