After a long night that had them all laughing and partying, Isshiki admitted that he was glad that Soma came. Soma walked Erina home. There was nothing to say, so they enjoyed each other's company. Erina thanked him as she made her way to her room. She was tired, but it was worth it. Erina didn't understand why her boyfriend had smiled when Erina said Isshiki had won. That was a problem for tomorrow since she could barely open her eyes. She walked into her room in a daze and collapsed onto her bed. She fell asleep as soon as her face touched the pillows. She didn't have enough energy to change out of her clothes. Hours later, she awoke to a knock at her door. She got up in a still hazy state and opened the door.
"My lady, you've got to get up for school," Hisako said. She looked at Erina, and her eyes went wide. "Are you not feeling well?"
"I'm fine, Hisako, just a little tired," Erina explained. "I'll be out in fifteen minutes." She closed her door as she got herself ready. She turned on her shower and picked out a few clothes. She hopped in and changed her clothes. At this point, she was over her tiredness. Erina thought about how Soma survived that much sleep nearly every day. She went into the kitchen and waited for her breakfast. Soma was waiting for her to go to school. Hisako thought it would be best to leave ahead of them.
"Are you ok?" Soma asked. "I know you aren't used to that amount of sleep."
"Yeah, I'm fine: the real question is, how do you survive less sleep than I had and still function?" Erina looked at Soma, and he just shrugged. She huffed with frustration. "Just promise me to get more sleep."
"Oh, I probably could if you were with me, Erina," Soma teased.
"Just say when you need me, I'll try and come," Erina said. Soma got a blush as he tried to come up with a comeback. Erina saw him blush and smiled in surprise. "Wait, are you blushing?"
"Wow, look at the time. We had better hurry to school," Soma said. She laughed a little and grabbed his hand.
"Come on, we shouldn't be late," Erina said as she dragged him to the school. Once they reached their class, Erina was still beaming. Soma and Erina sat through the painstakingly long lecture. Soma said he had to do something after class. Erina was curious but didn't push the subject. She decided to walk to the Elite Ten meeting place with Hisako. They chatted until someone caught Erina's attention.
"Miss Nakiri, I'm Ikumi Mito," she said. "I couldn't help but notice that Soma kid hanging around you."
"I'm going to stop you right there," Erina explained. "Our relationship has nothing to do with you, so if you'll excuse me, I have an Elite Ten meeting to attend."
Soma had somewhere to be, but he hoped it wouldn't take much time. He was frustrated, and Megumi asked him for some help. Megumi seemed very nervous about asking him. She said she would be in the most significant building. He went inside, wondering what she was doing in this place. This place was usually taking shokugeki. There she was in the corner as Soma came towards her. "Are you ok?" Soma asked.
"Thanks for coming," Megumi began. "Takumi-san challenged me to a shokugeki, and I didn't know who else to call."
"Ok, let's do this," Soma confidently said. Megumi nodded her head as the Aldini brothers entered the stadium. This time, Soma would have to be her sue-chef. They each had thirty minutes for their dishes. Megumi wanted to create a creamy chicken skillet with Italian seasoning. He began prepping the chicken and bringing up the ingredients. Megumi sprinkled the chicken with a fourth teaspoon of back pepper and salt. She heated oil while Soma cut the zucchini and onion. Megumi put the chicken in the pan until it browned. Then, it was Soma's turn, and he added one tablespoon of oil, zucchini, and onion he had cut up already. Once the zucchini and onion started going soft, he said white wine. He added tomatoes, cream cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and the remaining one-fourth teaspoon of salt and pepper. Then, Megumi took over as she put the chicken back into the pan and topped it with basil. She was so proud of how it came out. The Aldini brothers went with spaghetti & spinach with sun-dried tomato cream sauce.
"Who is judging us?" Soma asked, a little confused. The Aldini brothers shrugged. "I'm not even that stupid; hold on." He walked away to make a call and returned minutes later with a frustrated face. "She should be here in a couple of minutes. She has a busy schedule, and we luckily caught her between meetings." He ran outside to get a bottle of water.
A few minutes later, Erina walked through the door, huffing like she had run here. Soma handed her the bottle, and she greedily drank from it. "Thanks," she said as she threw it away. "What did you need my help with?" Soma explained the problem, and she huffed in annoyance. "Let's go, give them to me; you owe me big time." He nodded. She tried both dishes and couldn't taste Soma's cooking anywhere in either dish. "The chicken, but Soma, I can't taste your cooking anywhere in this dish." The Aldini brothers were distraught upon hearing who won.
"I only did the prep work for Megumi," Soma motioned as Erina's eyes approached her. "She was the real cook."
"Todoroki-san," Erina called as she plastered on a smile. "Lovely dish."
"You can call me Megumi," Todoroki said. "After all, you are Soma's girlfriend." Erina looked bewildered. She looked at Soma, who was trying not to laugh but failing miserably. Erina straightened a bit and nodded. The Aldini brothers knew something was going on between the two from yesterday, but never in their wildest dreams did they think Erina could be with Soma.
"If that is all," she grabbed Soma by the collar. "We will be taking our leave." Soma waved to them as he stood up and grabbed his hand by his collar. He took her hand in his and looked at her quizically. "I'm free for the rest of the day and this weekend, too, so do you want to return home and reopen the diner?"
"I'd love that," he earnestly said as he squeezed her hand. "Let's go pick up some clothes." They enjoyed each other's company. They walked to the Nakiri Manor and went inside. "You can go upstairs and pack your clothes." She nodded and told him she'd be back. Hisako popped out of nowhere and questioned him. Soma explained where they were going.
"Oh, it'll be just you two alone?" Hisako teasingly asked.
"Yeah, why?" Soma asked. "But we will sleep in separate rooms." Hisako just huffed.
"Are you guys at least going to have a date?"
"Of course, I was planning on it being Saturday night," he said. "Speaking of, could you do me a huge favor." She was curious about him asking her. "I don't want Erina to know what I am planning…"
"So you want me to grab something and put it into her bag," she said as he nodded. "Okay, what do you need from me?" He whispered the plan to her, and she nodded. Hisako went up the stairs, and five minutes later, she returned with Erina's suitcase. She winked at Soma, letting him know that it was in there. He nodded as Erina came downstairs.
"Thank you for your help, Hisako," she said.
"Of course, my lady," Hisako replied.
Soma offered his arm as he took the suitcase. Erina took it gladly. He still had clothes at his place. They took the limo; Soma opened the door, and he went to the back to put the suitcase away and followed her inside. She laid her head on his shoulder, taking deep breaths. Erina found his hand and began playing with it. She had never stopped and wondered how his hands had gotten so rough. Looking out the window, he felt her soft hands play with his. She was engrossed in his hand and played with the digits on each finger; she was careful not to cause pain. Soma looked over at her face, questioning what she was doing. He didn't speak; he didn't want to break her concentration. Soma found her beautiful face scrunched up, thinking it was adorable. He watched a strand of hair fall into her face. She blew it, trying to get it out of her face. Soma used his other hand and gently moved it to the side. She looked at him, thanked him under her breath, and went back to playing. He kissed her cheek and whispered into her ear. Erina nodded as she let go of his hand. They got off at the diner, and he opened the door. He got her bag and put it into his room as she stretched. "I'll open the diner," she said. Soma headed for the kitchen and put on his headband. He was glad to see her smile, and she looked at him. "What?"
"I'm just appreciating my girlfriend. Is that so wrong?" Soma asked. She gave him a suspicious look.
"You are way too good at complimenting me; you know that," she continued as her face relaxed. "But thank you." He chuckled a little bit as he texted someone. Erina went to the back to find an apron.
"Yukihira's is open again, everyone!" someone said excitedly. Mayumi was the first to enter, excited to see her friend.
"I'm here and ready to work, sir," Mayumi teased.
"That's Good. We'll be handling the kitchen; you will handle the front of the restaurant," Soma said.
"We?" Mayumi asked.
"You need better aprons," Erina said as she entered the kitchen with a dusty old apron. "I'll bring one for myself next time we come." She looked over at Mayumi.
"Oh, I see," Mayumi teased. Soma and Erina huffed out because they knew tonight would be one of those nights. "I have questions I'm sure you guys would be happy to answer." Mayumi had a sadistic smile on her face.
"Ok, fine, but we have work to do right now," he answered. Mayumi began seating the restaurant patrons as they started the prepping process. It began raining outside. The orders started racking up, and soon, they didn't have time for breaks. They began to push themselves if they were going to finish tonight's rush. Everyone in the restaurant was having a great time. By the time they finished, it was midnight, and everyone was exhausted except for Soma, who seemed to have become wired. "Thanks for the help, Mayumi." She only nodded because she was so tired; Erina wasn't doing much better, her eyes drifting closed. "How about you two go to sleep?" They both nodded their heads. Soma pretty much carried Erina to bed and then walked Mayumi home. It was still raining, but there was one thing he needed to get before coming home. Soma texted someone and got a reply immediately back. He smiled as he headed for the one store that was still open.
Erina woke up trying to remember where she was. As the post-morning fog wore off, she remembered everything. She got dressed in jeans and a blue blouse and walked downstairs. She made a confused face when she didn't see Soma down there, and her confusion turned into hope that he was taking better care of himself. She used the kitchen and cooked some eggs for her and her boyfriend. As Erina was cooking, she heard a loudnoise from his dad's bedroom. She sprinted over and knocked, worried about him. She heard no response when she decided to open the door. Soma was trying to get himself up. She rushed to his side and helped him up. She put him on the bed and put her hand on his forehead. She left his room, prepared to care for him, when something caught her eye. Erina looked inside the bag, and it was a new apron for her. She felt special; she grabbed it and brought it to the kitchen. She got a sopping wet towel, thinking, this is what you are supposed to do. Erina had never cared for a sick person before but was determined to do this. Erina put it on his forehead and made some porridge.
Erina managed to contact his dad and tell him what was going on. Unfortunately, he couldn't make a trip back until two weeks later, but he told her what to do. She went back to where Soma was just waking up. "Don't get up," Erina said. Soma looked up at her and then relaxed on the bed. Erina took the towel on his forehead, wrung it, and placed it back. She got the spoon hanging by the side of the bowl. "That was very thoughtful, but please be careful next time."
"So I'm guessing you already saw it?" Soma said. Erina nodded as she handed him the spoon and bowl.
"How are you feeling?"
"Better, I guess. It's weird; I don't remember the last time I was sick," Soma replied. Erina thought about this.
"You don't get sick that often," she started. "But this is my repayment for the two times I was sick and you came over." She wanted to kiss his forehead, but she was nervous; except for her grandfather, no one had ever shown that type of outward affection, which was scaring her a little. She held his hand and squeezed it.
"You should probably get my phone," Soma started. Erina looked at him quizzically. "I planned something for us, but I'm sick now."
"You did, but I don't have anything to wear," she said.
"Check your bag," Soma started. "After I go back to sleep," she nodded as she checked his temperature. Soma took his phone and started canceling the reservation. He nodded off soon after, and Erina looked after him. She saw the dress as he had instructed. It was a beautiful, full-length, dark blue dress. He really could be so thoughtful when he isn't being an idiot.
