Last time on Swordmen of the west: The gang continue to survive on the mountain as the outlaws lay low from the law. Kirito is still wary of the criminals, but needed them to find death gun. Dutch decided to check out the O'drisscoll camp to see what they know about the train that going to appear. they head out to the camp, from there they take out the outlaws and secure some explosives and details about the train. What more they capture an O'driscoll to learn more.

Chapter 4

Aftermath of genesis

Kirito Pov: It been a couple of days since our attack on the O'driscoll camp. The man we caught, Kieran have yet to give us anything of use against Colm. Although the gang threatening him at every turn is helping his case. I honestly feel bad for the guy. Right now I was heading to the kitchen to check on Asuna, most days she is helping Pearson the camp cook. I saw Arthur was hear too. "How it going Asuna?" I ask my wife. She let out a sigh. "It could be better Kirito, our supplies are not ideal." She said. "We're gonna starve to death up here miss Asuna." Pearson said. "We're okay." Arthur said. "We have a few cans of food and a rabbit… for what, ten, twelve people? When I was in the Navy…" Pearson said. "I-I do not wish to hear about… what you got up to in the Navy, Mr. Pearson." Arthur said. "We were stranded at sea… for fifty days." Pearson said. "And you unfortunately survived…" Arthur said. "When we ran away from Blackwater… I wasn't able to get supplies in." Pearson said.

"Well when government agents are hunting you down… sometimes shopping trips need to be cut short. We'll survive… we always have… and if needs be, we can eat you… you're the fattest." Arthur said with a joke. "Please don't put that thought in our heads." Syakomon said. ": I sent Lenny and Bill hunting and they found nothing." Pearson said. "It certainly doesn't look good." I said. "Well, Lenny's more into book learning than hunting. Bill's a fool. Unless those mountains are full of game that wanna read… ain't no wonder they found…" Arthur said. "Enough of this. We'll go find something. Come on, Arthur." Charles said. "You can't go hunting. Look at your hand." Arthur said as we look at Charles hand. "he right, I did what I can for it, but you need more time to heal." Asuna said. "I can't stay here listening to them. look, if there's game in those hills I'll find it… and you can kill it." Charles said. "If it make you feel better Arthur we'll come with you." I said. "Yuuki can watch Yui for awhile." Asuna said.

We head out side to ready our horses, Charles hand Arthur a bow and arrows. "Oh, you're joking…" Arthur said. "Use a gun… and we'll scare off every animal for miles around. You're never too old to learn… I imagine. Come on… this way." Charles said. "He got a good point, I then to use my throwing knives to hunt." I said as we rode out. We head into the mountains to start hunting. "How are you holding up, Charles?" Arthur ask. "I'm okay, apart from this hand. Stupid mistake. Thanks to Asuna help it be fine in a day or two. Still can't use a bow thou." Charles said. "I'm glad I could help, my healing is as powerful as our friends Elize but it get the job done." She said. "You have my thanks, to think there are people like you out there." He said. I chuckle. "Please you haven't seen all that we can do yet." I said. "So… you reckon we're gonna find something to kill that ain't an O'Driscoll?" Arthur ask. "There's meat up here for sure. Pearson doesn't know what he's talking about. Now the weather's eased off a bit, they'll be needing to feed." Charles said.

"I can tell, I notice several tracks all ready." I said as we went up hill. "Been a wild few days alright. That ride north from Blackwater, getting stuck in this storm, going out for John, that thing with the O'Driscolls." Arthur said. "Those men, what they did to Sadie it unforgivable." Asuna said with a growl in her voice. "They got what coming to them." I said. "You've had a lot put on you. I wish I could have done more." Charles said. "I didn't mean it like that, just… a lot to think back on." Arthur said. "I still don't really know what happened on that boat." Charles said. "Javier told us a bit of it, it didn't end well." I said. ": See some of the ground uncovered here. Come on, let's try this way. Keep your eyes peeled for movement. The wind's died down too." Charles said. "Yeah that a good thing." Vielecmon said. "How that?" Arthur ask. "No wind at all is bad, but if it's too strong, they won't move. Now, shh… stay quiet. Hey… stop here a second. I see something. There's deer been here… recently." Charles said as we stop. "How you tell that?" Arthur ask.

": How can you not? Let's walk it from here. You're going to need the bow, don't leave it on your horse. A gun will scare everything around. Keep down. Move quietly and slowly." Charles said as we got off our horses and move slowly. We move forward until we spot a pair of dear up ahead. "Wait, look… there they are. Quick, get that bow out, Arthur. Aim for the head or neck…" Arthur carefully aim the bow and let the arrow flew as it strike the deer in the neck killing it. "Not bad partner." Syakomon said. "We'll make a hunter out of you yet." Charles said. "Guys the other one is making a run for it." Asuna said as the second deer was running. I quickly bolt after it trying to stay on it trail. I took out my knives and threw them as 3 of them stabs into the deer as it clash against the snow. The others caught up to me to examine my work. "Impressive, how did you move like that?" Charles ask. "I always been fast on my feet, it was my best stat in SAO." I said. "Hard to believe you can do all this from a game of all things." Arthur said as we load the deer onto the horses.

But them I heard something as I narrow my eyes. "Asuna." I said as she nods. "Yeah I heard it too." She said as we draws our weapons. "What the matter?" Charles ask. "It appears were surrounded." Vielecmon said. "By what wolves?" Arthur ask. "No it a lot worst." I said as several figures jump out and surround us. They were small red and black skin demi humans with long ears and tails. They wore white knight like armor on their heads and chest and they were carrying maces. "What the?" Charles ask. "Kirito these are." Asuna said worry. "Yeah, Ruin kobold sentinels, what what are Sao monsters doing here?" I said. 'It can wait sugar we need to take these freaks out." Syakomon said. "Arthur Charles it best you guys get to cover, you won't be able to hand this." I said. "Ah right." Arthur said as they got clear. "Digi-modify Digivolvtion activate!" We shout.

A kobold jump at me as he swung his mace down as I block it. I then move back. "Vertical!" I shout as I cut him down, I then swung backwards to strike at one behind me. "Shadow lance!" Lowemon shout as he use his lance to take out 3 of them. "Quaduble pain!" Asuna shout as she took out five of them. "Whipping waves!" Ranamon shout as she use water from the river to finish off the rest of the sentinels. "I don't get it why are sentinels attacks us?" Asuna ask. We soon heard a large thud. "Why don't we ask him." I said as we saw a large kobold holding a nodaichi. "Illfang the kobold lord." I said. Great a freaking boss monster too. What is going on today. "Uh guys I think were gonna need some help with this one." Ranamon said. "Right let take it to the next level." I said as me and Asuna pull out blue cards. "Digi-modify Matrix Digivolvtion activate!" We shout.

Illfang came at us first with a roar as he was slashing wildly at us. We quickly move back to avoid him as I got close. "Deadly sins!" I shout as I slash him 7 times across the chest. He try to crush me as Kaiserleomon tackle him. "Ebony blast!" He shout as he pelt the boss monster with energy bursts. "Crucifixion!" Asuna shout as she slash a cross pattern into Ilfang back. He swung his tail to knock her into a tree. "Acid ink!" Calmaramon shout as she shot the ink at him as Illang jumps to avoid it. He definitely smarter then normal. "This isn't good Kirito." Asuna said as I help her up. "Yeah, he stronger them normal and we don't have a full party to face him." I said. Illfang was charging at us until an arrow hit him in the eye making him cry out. We look to see Arthur with his bow out. He nod to us. "Let finish this." I said. Asuna nods as we charge at Illfang. "Starburst stream!" I shout as I land the 16 hit combo on the monster t6o making him move back. He swung down on me as I jump over him.

"Switch!" I shout as Asuna came at him. "Mother Rosario!" She shout as she hit him 11 times. "Titanic twist!" Calmaramon shout as she drill into Illfang causing him to smash through a few trees. The monster roars again as he made a mad dash at us. "Finish it!" I shout. "Dark master!" Kaiserleomon shout as he form the darkness lion and slam into Illfang. The boss cries out as he explodes into data like a Digimon. With the battle over our Digimon turn back to normal. Arthur and Charles came over. "Well that was something." Charles said. "It was but why were they here, they shouldn't exist outside of Sao." Asuna said. "I know, could have Death gun brought them here, and if he did how?" I ask as I rub the back of my head. "I say we worry about it latter, for now we should get the deer back to camp." Arthur said. "Good idea." I said as we mount up and start our way back to camp. "Should be enough meat here to keep us all fed for a few days." Charles said. "You found 'em." Arthur said.

"I knew you'd be okay with that bow. More so when you shot that monster to help the kids." Charles said. "Thank you for that Arthur san." Asuna said. "It's easier when they ain't shooting back." Arthur said getting a laugh out of us. "We've seen enough of that." Charles said. "Considering how things were looking a couple of days back, maybe our luck is finally on the turn." Arthur said. "Seems to me we should be putting our effort into getting off this mountain now." Charles said. "Yeah, we'll be better off not freezing our butts off." I said. "Soon. People are still weak and you've seen how Snowed in those wagons are… they ain't going nowhere until we get some more thaw." Arthur said. "You're probably right. And, even if we do get off here… what then? We'll still have a big price on our heads." Charles said concern. "This is a big country… we'll find somewhere to lie low. Dutch and Hosea will have a plan. You noticed how Pearson's had a bottle in his hand ever since we fled Blackwater? We give the camp cook five minutes to grab the essentials and go, and he doesn't even bring a crumb of food." Arthur said.

"Good that we caught more than one. We've only been up here a few days and have already picked up several more mouths to feed." Charles said. "We can handle ourselves just fine." I said. "We ain't feeding the O'Driscoll a damn thing, except maybe that can of salted offal Pearson was kind enough to give us." Arthur said. "The girl, she has a wild look in her eye." Charles said. "Of course. She lost her husband, her home, everything she had." Arthur said. "It must be hard for her, we know was it was like." Asuna said. Yeah, we lost our home when Aincrad was first destroy. "So what do we do with her?" Charles ask. "Once we get out of here, and we're back on our feet, we'll see. She might have family somewhere." Arthur said. "Who knows, maybe she'll deal with the O'Driscoll for us." Charles said. "I know who my money's on in that fight. He's weak, but that makes him much more useful. Maybe we can get to them before they get to us." Arthur said. "What is it with the O'Driscolls?" Charles ask.

"You ain't dealt with them? I suppose we ain't run into them much the last six months. I guess because they've been over this way" Arthur said. "I've heard a lot of talk about them…" Charles said. "Well… we've been scrapping over scores with them for years." Arthur said. "I thought it started with what happen between Dutch and Colm." I said. "No that when the feud got worst." Arthur said. He look at Charles. "We ain't ever talked that much, you and me. How long have you been with us now? Five, six months?" Arthur ask. "Something like that." Charles said. "Bet you didn't expect this. Any of this. The Blackwater mess, being up here." Arthur said. "Sooner or later a job's going to go wrong. Nature of life." Charles said. "Look at what happen today, like we were expecting to get attack by those monsters." I said. "Just thought you might have moved on by now." Arthur said. "You want me to move on?" Charles said. 'No, no, not at all, I just… I know you could run it alone, no problem." Arthur said.

"I did that for a long time. I'm done with it. Always wondering if someone's going to kill you in your sleep." Charles said. "I still wonder that most nights." Arthur said. "I reckon you're okay… This suits me. Sure, I could fall in with another gang, but Dutch… you know… Dutch is different. Oh yes." Charles said. "Dutch is certainly different." Arthur said. "He treats me fair. Most of you do. And for a feller with a black father and an Indian mother that ain't normally the case." Charles said. Dutch does seem like a nice guy. "Well… we need you now, more than ever." Arthur said. "Good… and how long have you been with these boys? Why ain't you run off?" Charles said. "Twenty years, something like that. Since I was a boy." Arthur said. "Twenty years." Charles said. "That a long time." Asuna said. "Yeah, he taught me to read. John, too. Taught me a few other things, him and Hosea." Arthur said. "I'm sure." Charles said. "Dutch saved me, saved most of us. That's why we need to stick by him through this. He always sees us right." AArthur said as we came back to the camp.

"We'll drop the food off to Pearson." Arthur said. "Yeah, me and Asuna need to talk with the others." I said as we head to our cabin. "So how was the hunt?" Sinon ask. "Good until we ran into Sao monsters." I said. "Say what?" Yuuki said. "But how Papa?" Yui ask. "We don't know sweetie, we think death gun some how brought them here." Asuna said. "Then does that mean he knows were here." Sinon said worry. "Yeah, were going to be more careful from this point on." I said.

Yuuki: well look like things are picking up for us now as we set out to rob a train. Oh man this is going to be fun I know it. Next time on Sword men of the west: Chapter 5: Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall? Let go!
