A couple days had passed since Mackerel had attacked Xander. Xander's life through Tyson had started to be a bright one as Tyson helped get rid of his loneliness. Tobias and Zach had kept an eye on the two just to make sure Xander wasn't going to get hurt again. Everything seemed okay as the two focused more on training for anymore battles to come. Tobias and Zach would have sparring matches with each other as a way to help the other get stronger. They usually found about 2 hours of sparring or until one of them runs out of stamina. Whenever they sparred, they would do so at the Terrace Apartments in the big patch of grass that had a mini swing set in the corner.
Tobias raised his foot as he went to kick across Zach's face but he grabbed his ankle and spun him around until he let Tobias go as he rolled on the ground. Zach ran towards him as he jumped into the air and came striking him with his fist. Tobias quickly rolled to his side as Zach punched the ground. Tobias then kicked Zach in his side and then quickly got off the ground and pinned him to the ground with his knees. Tobias then grabbed his throat and lifted his other hand in a fist as he stood still.
"Nice uh job." Zach said stuttering.
"Yeah, thanks man." Tobias said laughing.
Tobias let go of Zach's throat as he stood up with his hand out to help his partner up.
Zach and Tobias were breathing a bit heavily as sweat was pouring down their face, "Ready for another round?" Tobias said chuckling.
"Nah I'm good for now. I'm actually a little tired." Zach said.
"Damn I was just getting heated too." Tobias chuckled. 'Tell me you're like seven years younger than me Zach. How come I have more stamina than you?" He asked.
Zach wiped the sweat off his face, "I don't know I think I've just always been like that. I can do strenuous activities but unlike most people my body will begin to shut down after a point. I kind of noticed my body changed about six years ago when I was sent to the hospital and was there for a while." He spoke.
"Why were you at the hospital for a while?" Tobias asked.
"I had an illness that was tearing me down. It was pretty much killing me. I don't remember what it was but I had to have a type of surgery to get rid of it. Since then, I went from having a huge amount of energy like you and Xander to what I have now." He said with his breathing returning back to him.
"Was it scary?" Tobias asked.
"Yeah it was. If the operation went wrong I would die. If I didn't do the operation the doctor's said I would still die. My parent's as well as my insurance paid for the operation and after all was said and done, I just wanted to forget it all ever happened. So, I uh blocked the uh uh memory…" Zach then started feeling dizzy as he laid down on the ground.
"Zach!" Tobias called out as he checked on him.
"It's okay. I'm okay. I just need to just calm down really quick." Zach said.
Tobias had found out something new about his friend causing him to feel closer.
"Do you want me to get you home?" He asked.
"Nah my apartment is uh right there." Zach stuttered as he pointed at the building close to them.
"Okay will you be alright?" He asked him.
"Yeah I'll be fine." Zach chuckled.
The two began packing up and leaving as Zach walked home.
Brett was sitting at the supercomputer in the underground hideout as he was getting signature readings from a certain place in town. "There's a weird energy reading at an abandoned location? A Dino Egg perhaps?" I'll need to get ahold of the Rangers and have them investigate…Or, I could go check it out. I haven't really gotten out a bit and this sounds like a lot of fun. The Rangers could use a break from being superheroes and know Tobias is out to go visit his mother." Brett said as he got out of his chair. He stopped as he had a thought about Tobias. "I wonder if there's any way to free his mother from the pain she's under."
Brett put a shoulder bag on him and went to his truck as he took out a cigarette and began smoking.
Zach had gotten back to his apartment as he was breathing heavily and his dog Firestorm came running up to him. Firestorm had his empty food bowl in his mouth, once he noticed Zach wasn't feeling good, he dropped the dish and began whining. Zach had laid on his couch as he was breathing heavily.
"I'm sorry buddy. I'll get you food in a bit, I just gotta rest…" Zach said as his body started feeling calm and his mind drifting. His eyes were getting heavy and Firestorm jumped onto the couch as he laid on Zach. "You know your…Not a puppy…Anymo…" Zach had quickly fallen asleep before he could finish his sentence. Firestorm stayed on Zach as he stared at his friend with sad eyes for awhile until he passed out as well.
Zach was having flashbacks of his younger self. When he was going through the surgery and how his life could've been taken from him in just a matter of moments. His family running to the hospital room he was in and being shoved back as Zach was put under on the hospital bed.
"Ma'am you need to get back. We are going to administer an emergency operation to try and save your son! Please we need to concentrate." The doctor said to his family.
The mother was crying and screaming as she could feel the lost connection with her son. In her arms was a 2 month old puppy that was Firestorm who was stressing out from the chaos around it.
Time jumped forward as the doctors in the room began moving with great urgency as Zach's body was not reacting well to the recovery. The parents noticed this as Zach's heart monitor was slowly coming to a flatline.
The mother was banging on the window and the father was trying to get her to calm down. The doctor came out trying to calm them down and have them removed.
"THAT'S MY BABY! DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! PLEASE DON'T LET HIM DIE! PLEASE!"
The mother was going insane as she could tell the end was coming for her son.
"We have repaired and got rid of the cancer in your son. We don't know why he's going through this with nothing being wrong with him. We can only think that he may be too far gone and there's nothing we can do. Your son can only wake up if he chooses." The doctor said with a sense of despair in his voice.
"You're saying that Zach just needs to open his eyes soon?!" The dad said as his heart was getting heavy.
"We've tried restarting his heart with electric charges but he's not being responsive to them. Please. We are going to do everything we can to get him back." The doctor said defeated.
The father was trying his hardest to not break down and as he got his wife out of the hallway, they noticed the puppy was missing.
A small bark was being made in Zach's room. Zach's consciousness was all black and he was becoming ready to die until a faint light appeared in front of his eyes.
"What's this? Who's barking?"
Zach reached a hand out to grab the dim light in his mind and as he did, his eyes began to slowly open to see him being licked across the face by a dog. Zach was able to come back to life.
His parents ran into the room and the doctors and nurses stood in shock to see the miracle being performed by this little dog.
In the present, Zach had shed a tear as he woke up from his sleep to see Firestorm curled up on his lap. Zach pet Firestorm's head.
"You have no idea how much you will always mean to me." Zach said with a tender smile.
Mesogog was sitting in his chair fuming at the loss of another one of his monsters. Michael had entered the room and approached him. "It would be wise if you don't give me your useless words Michael. What you should be doing instead of approaching my presence is finding a way to kill the Power Rangers." Mesogog said angrily.
Michael then bowed down to him, "I actually have a plan. It's in regards to your monsters. I want to try and do a human experimentation with your machine. I figured that the Rangers have a hard time fighting something human like in regards to how I can wipe almost the whole group quickly. So what if I got a human to become a monster?" Michael suggested.
"Quite daring you are Michael. You wish to do the same thing that birthed me. But tell me what material's would you use to fuse the specimen with?" Mesogog said.
"Actually since the fall of Mackerel I heard word of an ancient temple in Mexico that held a specific black armor that is said to be cursed to those who has it in their possession. Unfortunately I was only able to leave the temple with just a piece of the armor before it collapsed in. But I think this will suffice. I will use this piece of the Black Armor, mixed with your blood in my machine, and a fragment of a sword I had found in the temple. I am planning on recreating the Black Armor Knight legend told in Mexico." Michael offered.
"Fine. But you have better get your hands on a strong specimen for the creation; if you fail I will take back my power that resides in your Dino Gem." Mesogog snarled.
"Nothing will stop me from trying out this experiment, not even the Power Rangers or their Mentor. Because I will strike right under their noses." Michael said as he got up.
"How will you find such a specimen?" Mesogog inquired.
"I actually have an idea that can be helpful. The specimen doesn't have to be physically strong, what I'm looking for is something that is strong in terms of negative emotions. I've studied the experiments you keep in those tubes for your machine to create monsters. I have come up with the best creature that can sit here and fetch me a pretty specimen at a nearby hospital in town." Michael smiled as he walked over to the machine and began combining multiple specimen.
A gas filled the chamber nearby as a plant type creature appeared.
"The name is Pollinator! I am at your command!"
The creature spoke with such a high pitch voice but this put a smile on Mesogog's creepy face.
"I'm in the middle of finding Dino Eggs that'll give me a great boost in power to help kill the Power Rangers. I'll be able to stand toe-to-toe with them if I can just get one more egg. I have found a couple of eggs along with the one I've acquired. I will lure a couple of the Rangers to me while Pollinator attacks the hospital seeking a specimen. With the Rangers divided, they'll stand no chance at surviving." Michael said with a conniving laugh.
"Hmm maybe you're a lot smarter than I gave you credit for, Michael. Pollinator, go find me a specimen that is soaked in negative emotions at the hospital. Kill anyone including the Rangers that stand in your way. If need be, you can bring that entire hospital down with everyone in it." Mesogog commanded.
Pollinator accepted his command and began to leave the room to head to the Bowling Green Hospital. Michael pulled out a Dino Egg from his beige trench coat inside pocket as he looked at it.
"I wish I could get this to hatch, but it seems with all my power poured into it, I can't get it to awaken." Michael turned around facing Mesogog as he bowed to him, "We shall have victory soon, Lord Mesogog. The Rangers can't keep up their wins for very long. Should something happen and Pollinator fail I will tend to the Rangers myself, the moment I get my egg to hatch." Michael then super sped out the room as his evil laughter filled the halls. Mesogog let out a low growl, "Soon White Ranger, I will no longer have any use of you. When I do get my power back, I will face the Rangers myself. I will rip their very skin from their flesh. This world will fear me and the only thing stopping me is the Rangers and regaining my power that I had when I was created." Mesogog said snarling.
A phone was ringing in Zach's apartment. He had fallen back asleep and as soon as his eyes snapped open, he answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hey Zach, it's Xander. I was wondering if you're free?"
"Yeah' I'm free. I was just sleeping a bit."
"Cool want to go spar? I figured since we are Rangers we need to keep ourselves in shape. I'm having to run up to the hospital really quick to get a physical check up to try out for the tennis team. I needed it done before I go back to school next week so figured you'd like to tag along."
Zach agreed as he quickly put on a different shirt. He had a navy blue athletic tank top and put on some deodorant and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge before he headed out to see his best friend.
The two were walking together to the hospital that was on the other side of town. On their way up they were engaging each other in conversation.
"Hey Xander. You ever wonder what you want to do in your life? Like anything after high school you'd like to do?" Zach asked.
"I don't know. I thought about joining the army." Xander said while kicking a rock.
"You join the army? Hahahaha." Zach couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny?! Why are you laughing?" Xander said a bit peeved.
"The army isn't for the weak. What brought you on with thinking of joining?" Zach asked.
"Well it's something that's been on my mind recently. Being Power Rangers and stuff I figured my powers could be useful and we are already saving the world, so I figured why not do it with a threat that's more down to earth so to speak." Xander said as he looked at his Dino Brace.
"You know I've noticed you're making changes ever since you got your Dino Gem. Maybe you're finally growing up." Zach said as he ruffled Xander's hair. The two shared a chuckle but then Xander's smile turned into a frown.
"It still hurts you know. Losing Emily." Xander said depressingly.
"You said you see her ghost. I was thinking you were just in shock and couldn't move on, but you said something to me last night about how you were able to go save that bully and knew exactly where he was because Emily was there to help you. How have you been holding up since that night?" Zach asked.
"Maybe its because I see her, but I just struggle with the closure. I loved her so much and I just never knew how easy it is that you can lose something and how much you can love something until it's gone. I'm going to make sure when I see Mesogog, I'm going to inflict all that pain I'm feeling into him." Xander said gritting his teeth.
They got to the hospital as a purple fog colored the windows and people were banging on the doors trying to get as vines wrapped around the entrances. The people banging on the glass windows began to fall to their knees passing out unconscious.
"What the h…He…Hell is going on?" Zach said stuttering.
"Not another one of Mesogog's monsters." Xander said as the two ran to the doors trying to see if they can open. The vines holding the doors went to strike Xander, but Zach used his harden skin to protect him. Xander poked his head out the side of Zach's and let out a dino roar shattering the vine apart and destroying the glass door.
"We need to get in there, but first let's air out this gas. I'll break some more of the glass and then we need to morph and get inside. If there's a monster, it'll be in the building and we can't fight if we can't see in all that fog." Xander suggested as he let out a powerful sonic wave from his mouth shattering more of the glass as the fog began pouring out into the parking lot. Something was thrown from inside the building at Xander as Zach quickly jumped in front of him and crossed his arms over his chest as the object was a wooden chair that broke to pieces the moment it hit the blue skin.
From inside the fog, a pair of bright yellow eyes flashed and a cackling voice was made as a black silhouette was formed in the fog.
"You must be the Power Rangers. Judging by your powers you must be the Blue and Yellow Ranger. I've been expecting you to come by. I'm in the middle of searching for a special specimen, sadly nobody here in this hospital seem fit to meet my master's needs. But that's okay, because I was given permission to kill everyone here anyway and I'll add the two of you to my body count!"
"Sad you're body count is going to be 0 when we are done with you. Let's go Zach!" Xander said as they brought their Dino Brace over their chest. The Brace changed to their Dino Morphers and a sac was flung at their feet as it turned into series of vines that wrapped around the two and began squeezing them like a snake.
"Oh shit this aint good…" Zach said as he was struggling for air.
"We need to get hold of Tobias and Brett… But I can't move and I'm losing oxyg…" The two were blacked out from the vines and their bodies, still encased, fell to the ground.
"Don't worry you guys won't die yet. But with the two of you immobile and unable to transform, as well as the rest of the humans here, you'll be perfect bait to lure the Red Ranger out. Once I have dealt with him, I'll have all three of your Dino Gems returned to my master. This is way too easy."
