"Well this is it!" Candace beamed as she looked at her new dorm room.
She was officially starting as a NYU undergrad starting tomorrow. It wasn't much, there were 2 beds. One on one side of the room and the other on the opposite side. Both sides had a desk and chair as well as dressers and some shelves.
"I'm so proud of you hun '' Candace's mom teared up as she hugged her tightly.
"Thanks mom. But I can't breathe" she gasped for air when her mom finally let her go.
"Oh sorry sweetie"
"we'll miss you sis" 14 year old Phineas and Ferb smiled at her and she embraced them as well.
"You guys better behave while I'm gone. Now that I'm not there to bust you, no skyscrapers to the moon, no robot army's, no roller coasters, no trips around the world, no giant monster squirrels of doom no-"
"Okay okay we get it" Ferb said.
"Still such active imaginations' ' her mom said, chuckling at Candace's words.
"You're gonna knock em out darling" Lawrence said, hugging her as well.
Candace wiped a tear from her eye. "I love you guys''
"Hey don't I get a goodbye hug?"
She smiled at her boyfriend of 4 years, Jason.
"Of Course babe, I'm gonna miss you the most," she said, hugging him tightly.
He kissed her as if it would be his last time. Which technically it would be until she would see him again at Christmas break.
"I'll call you every night okay? And make sure you don't go to any wild parties"
Candace rolled her eyes. "Don't worry babe, that's the last thing on my mind right now I just want to get through this first year."
"Um hi" their attention was turned to a girl who entered the room.
She had long dark brown hair and was wearing a leather black dress and some black leggings and boots.
Candace's mom spoke first. "Hi! You must be Candace's roommate!"
The girl nodded. "Yes, I'm Vanessa."
Candace waved. "Hi I'm Candace and my family was just leaving" she said giving them a look that it was time to go.
"Oh you guys don't have to leave at my expense" she said, putting a suitcase on her bed.
"No we do have a flight back to catch, goodbye sweetie and call us soon!" Her mom gave her one last hug before turning to leave followed by her brothers and dad.
Jason kissed her one more time and she smiled sadly as he followed behind the others.
"Cute family," Vanessa said, smirking.
Candace smiled embarrassed. "Yeah..they can be a bit much"
"Hey, they're more normal than my parents. So what's your major?"
Candace picked up one of her bags and opened it. "I'm a journalism major, what about you?"
"Fashion and merchandising with a minor in music theory" Vanessa said picking her nails.
"Nice," Candace said.
"I hear this is a party school. Are you a party person?"
Candace shook her head. "Nah not really. I mean I've never really-"
"you've never been to a college party?!" Vanessa asked, shocked.
Candace blushed. "Um, well-I've been to birthday parties and stuffâ"
"That doesn't count," Vanessa said standing up from her mattress.
"You have so much to learn about college life but lucky for you you have a personal guide."
"Aren't you a freshman as well?" Candace asked, confused.
Vanessa smirked. "Yes but I live in New York. I get into all the parties. So I'm kind of a expert in these things"
Candace snorted. "Whatever you say"
After getting settled in Vanessa and Candace went to explore the campus.
"There's so much to do here it's like 4 of my high schools put together."
Vanessa laughed and pulled her over to a giant statue of some guy holding a camera. "Apparently this guy was an amazing film makerâthen he murdered his whole family then himselfâ"
Candace stared wide eyed. "What? Really?"
Vanessa laughed. "No. But that would've made it more interesting."
Candace bugged her playfully while laughing. She liked this girl. They kept walking until they hit one of the many food spots on campus. This was an outdoors eating area with dozens or round tables with umbrellas and inside some sliding doors was a cafeteria. It seemed to have a nice variety of food which Candace was thankful for. There was nothing worse than eating the same thing everyday.
"Over there is where 'meet the clubs' will be where all the clubs on campus will have booths where you can sign up." She pointed to a large open area near the library.
There were a few students sitting around outside of the library on the large steps. After more of the campus tour from Vanessa they returned to the dorm building. A few more students were moving into their dorms and families were saying goodbyes. A few doors down Candace spotted the cutest little girl with blonde pigtails hugging tightly to a tall blonde guy.
"Come on Suzy I'll be home before you know it" he said comforting the obviously sad little girl.
"Don't forget about me okay?" She asked, tearing up.
The blonde boy smiled and looked her in the eyes. "I could never forget my favorite girl,"
Candace smiled at the scene before going into her dorm room. She could tell this would be a great first year. I mean what could possibly go wrong?
