Enchanted Forest
One Year Ago
It had gotten dark when Regina finally came to a stop near a boulder covered in moss. Amelia watched from her place in the tree tops. The Queen used her magic to levitate and turned to throw it away, as she turned, she saw a figure leaning up against one of the trees she instantly recognised.
"No" she tells the red head plainly
Amelia shrugged as she made her way towards the Queen "No what?"
"You're not"
"Not coming along? I believe I am" Amelia stood her ground
"I didn't ask for help"
"Well, that doesn't mean you won't need it" Amelia told her "That flying monkey back there wasn't after Roland. It was coming after us"
"What makes you think that?
"I've seen a hunter stalk its prey, hell I've been the hunter and that thing only had eyes for us. it didn't even try and go for Roland; he just ran to me after I got hurt"
"Your point?"
"That's the second time you've been attacked in under 24 hours. The Wicked Witch wants us dead"
"And what? You think you can stop her if she tries to hurt me?"
"Maybe. Maybe not. But I have to try. Roland was only in harm's way because I got hurt" she paused taking a beat "I owe you"
"Why is that?" she raised an eyebrow at the woman in front of her
"Even though it wasn't after Roland, he still could have hurt my him. You saved him"
Regina lets out a sigh as she gives into Amelia's defiance "Don't get in my way"
"It's my job to remember" she gave the Queen a wink as she headed into the tunnels ahead of the Queen leaving the Queen to smirk to herself. Her Amelia was still there, she just had to find a way of getting her to forgive her.
Present
With their plan in motion to find out who was responsible for the curse that brought them back to Storybrooke and the towns finger pointing straight at Regina, this allowed the savoir and the former Queen the time they needed to try and re-create the potion that Emma took to regain her memories of Storybrooke.
They needed it more than ever it seemed with how the town's resident assassin was acting. Stepping into the building the blonde was not looking forward to telling the former Queen what she, David and Hook had discovered at the town line. If they had any chance of finding out what had happened to Amelia, it would be Regina. Entering the office she found the woman herself sat behind her desk.
"An earthquake?" Emma exasperated in disbelief at the woman
"I had to make a statement. And you're fine" Regina stood up and approached the savior "So, do you think they bought it?"
"Yeah. I think they did" Emma told her
"Good"
"Now let's see who really cursed this town" Emma stated as the former Queen went to work and found as blonde checked the hallway for anyone who might had followed her there.
"How long do you think we have?" Regina asked as she found a leather box and placed it on the long conference table.
"Until whoever cast that curse realizes you're not actually on the run from us? But, until then, no one is suspecting we're working together" Emma closed the door to the office door and approached the table
"Let's see it" Regina held out her hand towards Emma who gave the former Evil Queen the bottle that held the memory potion.
"Is that enough?" Emma asked the sorceress as she sat down on one of the chairs around the conference table.
"Ah, to use? No. But to applicate? I think so"
"We can start waking people up. Figure out who send all people back here"
"And I can make Henry remember me" she stated out load looking at the blonde, but then went back to the bottle "Thank you"
"For what? We haven't done anything yet"
"You saw how quick this town was to blame me. But you, you believe I didn't cast that curse. I know that wasn't easy for you"
"Sure, it was. I knew you're telling the truth"
"Even so that everything that has happened has put me right next to Henry? Maybe this was some super complicated and genius plan"
"Except it clearly wasn't" Emma told the older woman "My super power may not be perfect. But with you, Regina, we always know when you're lying. This time you're not. You didn't do it"
"Even though you know I can't live without him?"
"Here you go. Telling the truth again" Emma told the woman "And speaking of.." Emma trailed off making the older woman look down at her
"What?"
"We found Lia this morning" Emma started taking the former Queen by surprise. One of the first things she did when she woke up was to find the redhead. But with no sign of her anywhere, she figured the assassin was just avoiding her. But as the days went past with no sign, that's when she started getting worried.
"-She's in the woods and set up camp with some others caught up in the curse" Regina closed her eyes as relief washed over her. She and Amelia hadn't parted the best way before the curse took them back to the Enchanted Forest with the new curse the memory was still fresh in her mind. But then she heard the nervousness that came from the savior. There as more to her story than she was letting on.
"And?" she encouraged the woman to continue.
"Something's wrong, she doesn't remember who I am, she even tried to kill Hook. Whoever's done this has taken more than a year of memories away from her"
"How long?" she inquired
"We were hoping you'd be able to tell us since you knew her better"
At least she was alive, the former Queen thought to herself as she continued to work. Because if it was her that cast the curse, the assassin's heart would be the only option she had left to enact it.
"One problem at a time" she sighed out pushing the latest issue to the back of her mind. That had more important things to worry about.
Enchanted Forest
The Master Assassin was the one to lead the Queen back through the secret tunnel, using her sixth sense to guide her through the dark passage and to see any 'tricks' that would delay them. A comfortable silence stretched between the pair as they slowly made their way through mindful of where they put their feet.
"You lied earlier" Regina started ending the long silence that an engulfed the pair since entering the tunnel
"I have lied about most things; you need to be a little more specific" the red head retorted.
"About the Wicked Witch. You know her"
Amelia cleared her throat awkwardly as she tried to think of what to tell the woman '"I did, and it wasn't a pleasant meeting to say the least" Amelia answered the Queen "I pissed her off, she got mad. I think you can fill in the blanks"
"What did you do exactly?" she pressed the assassin.
"Extracting information" she answered the Queen who only looked for her to elaborate further "Claudius. He passed through Oz shorty after I started working for you, I got some beans off Rumple and followed"
Regina chuckled to herself rolling her eyes knowing what she did to get the information out "You slept with her" scoffing at the red head shaking her head "Didn't you?"
Amelia stopped turning to face the Queen. Regina stopped short so that their face's were mere inches apart her golden irises seemed to burn into hers "And what if I did" Amelia whispered to her Queen "What would you do about that Your Majesty?" she teased her before turning back to the tunnel ahead of them
"What did happen between you and greenie then?" she questioned the redhead as they slowly walked up the passage
"She wanted a partnership, like the one we had" she tells Regina "In return for my services for her own vengeance, she would help me find mine. But she wanted more than I was willing to give at that point in time, so she sent her flying monkeys on me as I jumped worlds. She never went into the specifics. Reminded me of you actually" she said earning a slap on her good shoulder before they continued their journey
"Why didn't you take it?" the Queen suddenly asks from behind her "If your life was so miserable with me, why didn't you join the green bitch?"
"It wasn't always miserable" Amelia quickly corrects her "we had some good times as well" she tells her as the continued "…where are we going anyway?"
"The fire in the courtyard is powering the spell. As long as it burns the shield will stay up"
"And you need to put it out" Amelia concluded stopping Regina as they came to a part of the tunnel that was booby trapped. The dirt pathway stopped for the section of gravel that was litter with square stones. Stepping on the stones would set off the spikes up ahead.
"Oh, I do like your little surprises" Amelia sighed out in fondness as she steps in between the stones carefully with Regina doing the same next to her
"To keep people like the thief out" Regina tells her. It was only a matter of time she would bring Robin up. Better now than later.
"True, but they aren't quite so bad, I stole from time to time"
"Not if you're telling yourself you're stealing from the rich to give to the poor. I may have done bad things in my life but at least I own it" Regina argued as they stepped out of the threshold of the trap and out the other end
"I own my mistakes, too" Amelia retorted dryly "I hope you didn't let Robin come with us so you can just walk him into one of these traps. Roland has already lost his mother. I would hate him to lose his father, too"
The two went back into silence until Regina broke it once again "Your very protective over the thieves son. What happened to her?"
"After he was born, I inadvertently put her in harm's way during a job I gave to Robin shortly after the guild was opened. It's my fault she died, even if I didn't kill her by my own blade. But Robin says otherwise" she explains "I do my best to try and fill a gap Marian left behind in-between you and Rumple. It was challenging at times, but I made it work. Like I said I own my mistakes, even if he hate's me when he's older when he learns the truth" they both stopped to take a closer look at the open door leading to their destination to see an open door.
As long as Amelia had been there, she had never seen that door open. Never.
"That's impossible" Regina exclaimed quietly
"The door" Amelia drawled "Its open"
"I sealed it with blood magic. I'm the only one who can open it"
"Clearly not" Amelia replied as she turned to Regina "If the Wicked Witch is powerful enough to break blood magic, maybe we should reconsider this plan"
"I don't care how powerful this witch is. We have to go through with this plan" Regina pushed past Amelia and headed to the door into the crypt
Present
The redhead kept her distance from Prince and Hook as she and the Merry Men searched the woods for any sign of Little John. Seeing his face again was something she never thought she'd be ready for and she wasn't. It brought out the nightmare that plagued her memories for months. His face, his voice his very being made her on edge, yet she was so willing to join him and the pirate in search for her friend.
Tom the young boy of fifteen trailed behind her like a lost puppy. Using her sixth sense to see if what David was telling her was true that they'd been to this strange place before and even become allies fighting against villains. When she looked at David and Hook both men carried a blue aura of an ally with them, the same as it did with Robin and the Merry Men. She shook her head and went back to her task at hand.
She searched the forest floor and found a trail of blood; her vision went back to normal as crouched down to find a leaf covered in blood and David came from behind her "Find anything?"
"He was dragged for about half a mile behind us" she informed the man
"There he is" Robin called out. Amelia stood up and ran to her friend who was lying motionless on the forest floor and slid of onto the floor next to the man and quickly set to work finding any injuries.
The redhead found a bloody bite mark on Little John's shoulder "Is he alive?" Hook asked from above her. Amelia's hidden blade slide out with ease as she held it under the bigger man's nose and saw the faintest of breath.
"Barely" Amelia shook Little "John, its Amelia. We've got you"
"I've never seen a bite like that before" Robin observed
"Me neither" David added as Robin crouched down next to his friend Amelia
"What vile creatures do you have in this land?" Amelia looked up at the prince and Hook who seemed to know more than her "Help me get him up. We gotta get him some help" with Robin's help they pair managed to pick the bigger man up from his shoulders with effort.
Enchanted Forest
One Year Ago
The Assassin was on high alert as she looked for any sign of the Wicked Witch as they made there way through the place they once called home until they came to Regina's old bedchambers were she found her next that she used to create all the potions she used back in the day as the redhead hovered at the doorway.
"Keep watch" Regina ordered as she headed towards her dresser
Amelia mockingly curtsied behind the latter's back at her order before turning back to survey their surroundings. Hearing a 'thunk' behind her she turned around to see Regina with her box of trinkets that she used to create her spells.
"What's that for?" the redhead asked her curiously
"Nothing that's ever concerned you" Regina snapped at her.
Amelia kept her eye on Regina as she reached flicked out the phantom blade attachment on her left gauntlet, quickly filling the miniature crossbow with a bolt aiming it straight and true at the Queen "I won't ask again Regina. What is that?"
Regina turned to see Amelia with the small attachment on her gauntlets aimed at her "How dare you threaten me in my own castle?" Regina reached out with her hand using her magic tighten Amelia's throat
"Even if you choke the life out of me this blade will find its mark. And you know I never miss" Amelia retorted in a constrained voice a little un-nerved that Regina had tried to kill her "Now what are you making?"
Regina released her allowing Amelia to take in a deep breath as she lowered her arm
"A sleeping curse" Regina answered the Assassin turning back to her dresser
"How?" Amelia questioned, her voice finally wavering in confusion "I thought you got that spell from Maleficent"
"I finally learned how to make one of my own" the Queen admitted to the Assassin
"That's why you wanted to come to the castle"
"Ingredients like these are hard to come by. Especially when you have Snow White breathing down your neck every second of the day"
"That was your plan? To use it on the witch?"
"The Witch?" she scoffed at the red head "I don't care about her" Regina said finishing the spell
"Then who do you plan to use it on? Snow again? Because if you I might have something to say about that this time" Amelia voiced
"Don't worry. No one you'll miss" Regina brushed the Assassins concern off "No one anyone will miss" she finished sitting down, Amelia watched as Regina pulled out a long hair pin form her raven black hair and dip it into the sleeping curse
"This is about Henry, isn't it?" Amelia slowly broached the subject as she walked closer to the Queen "I can't let you do this to yourself"
"It's a good thing you don't have a say in the matter anymore" Regina tells her former lover as she uses magic to freeze Amelia's feet to the ground. Amelia huffed in protest as she is unable to lift her feet off the floor.
"I know how your feeling, Regina" Amelia tried to appeal to her "When I lost my family, I thought there was no reason to go on" she told the Queen "But then I found one"
Regina stood from her seat an turned to face the red head "That's where you and I are different. I've already lost Henry. I've already lost the only thing I care about"
"That doesn't mean you won't find a new reason. We all get a second chance. Everything we've been through is to get it. You'll just have to open your eyes to see it" Amelia challenged the woman her voice cracking
"Too bad mine will be closed"
"So, that's it?" Amelia carped at the woman "You just give up?"
"This isn't an end. It's an eternal middle" Amelia's stomach churned at Regina's sad smile "This curse can be broken by the only true love in my life and the only reason I'd even want to wake. My son"
"Listen to me. This is a mistake" Amelia almost nearly screamed out
"Don't worry. I'll keep my word. I'll lower the protection spell so that Snow and Charming can be victorious" Regina turned her back to the red head "But then, then I go to sleep"
Present
Amelia led Robin, David and Captain Hook through the hallways of a strange building that David called a Hospital as they followed the gurney that held Little John through hallways healers surround him as they tried to help her friend
"He's bradycardic. BP dropping fast" a nurse said aloud
Dr. Whale looked toward Amelia and David "What did this to him?"
"We don't know." David answered for the Assassin
Amelia watched as John began to shake violently "He's going into shock".
"We need to sedate him. 15 mg of propofol" he instructed the nurses who gave him a needle. Dr. Whale tries to give Little John a shot. Little John continues to tremble violently and screams aloud as people tried to keep him still. Amelia's eyes widen as a tail started to grow from behind John and whipped out at the people surrounding him
"John, John!" Robin yelled out as the tail continued to thrash out hitting people Amelia felt a hand on her shoulder as she was forced down by Captain Hook
"Bloody hell!" he exclaimed. Amelia looked up when she heard a squawking coming from the gurney that held John to see a creature that resembled a monkey with large wings
"Okay, I didn't see that coming" David said as the flying monkey took a leap jumping through the window and disappears into the night "What the hell was that thing?"
"Don't look at me" Whale says "I'm a doctor not a vet"
After Little John had flown off Amelia suggested they should head back to the camp in case more showed up they were sitting ducks in the forest and Robin had a young son to look out for. Sending Robin ahead she started to leave prince and pirate at the building, they had taken Little John to.
"Amelia wait!" David called out to her making her stop and turn to face him "I know all this confusing right now, but we could really use your help. If I could get you back to the loft, we can…"
"Leave me alone James, have nothing to say to you" she spat at him.
"James?" he asked in confusion. How did she know his brother? "My name's David, James was my brother, he died years ago. I'm not him" he tried to convince the woman in front of him.
"He's dead?"
"Yes. A long time ago" he said nodding his head "Listen I don't know what happened, but right now if I can get you to Regina and Mary Margaret we can figure out what's going on"
the redhead shook her head at the man in front of her "What does a King Leopold's wife have to do with any of this?" Amelia asked the man "And who the hell is Mary Margaret?"
"You really don't know?" he stated bewildered at the red heads lack of knowledge.
"Know what?!" Amelia snapped angrily at him "All I do know is that yesterday I woke up in a complete different land to where I fell asleep in" She was getting more and more impatient with the man in front of her.
"What's the last thing you remember love?" Hook spoke up from behind David
"Excuse me?" she snapped at the pirate "Like I need to tell you, you already know" she spat at the leather clad man unsheathing a hidden blade from her right forearm and stalking the pirate threateningly.
"Amelia" David called out to her making her stop once again "Please" Amelia searched his face, only finding the look worry and concern for her in them "We just want to help"
Taking in a breath the blade slipped back into its place to answer the men's question. "I was on The Godspeed" she gulped "We were attacked i-in the night by mercenaries led by Angelo" her voice began to quiver from the building emotion that washed over her "H-he killed John" David saw a tear fall down her cheek at the mention of her Husband, she gulped again as she remembered Thomas being pulled out of her arms and taken away from her "T-they to-" she couldn't bring herself to say it out load in fear it would completely break her again.
He knew what she was trying to say. They took her son from her. By the way she was speaking of it, it had happened recently to her not nearly over thirty years.
"I was on a beach.. I watched the mast sink into the water" she told them before looking at Hook with anger in her eyes "You should know this pirate you were there" she tells the man who just averts his gaze away from her to ground, shame clouding his thoughts "You were the one to bring that monster onto our ship! You destroyed everything and for what?" she scoffed "For some coin? How much was his life worth to you?"
David heart broke for the woman in front of him. So usually posed and cool in front of anything that thrown in front of her was breaking reliving the worst moment of her life. Glancing back at the pirate, he saw the man unable to look at the woman in front of them, having to relive one the darkest moments of his life.
Looking back to the assassin he saw her quickly wipe away the tears from her eyes trying to hide away the grief from her face.
"We're going to figure this out Lia" David tells her "I promise"
"Then figure it out without me. We're done here" with that she leaves the Prince and pirate in the middle of the street to head back to camp.
Enchanted Forest
One Year Ago
Cramp started to set into her legs as she remained frozen on the spot for the last ten minutes or so as Regina lowered the shield that surrounded the palace. She was somewhat glad she was stuck in her place. It gave her time to think about her next move. She would need to leave by at least sunrise to get to Monteriggioni as soon as she could the next day. Tom had nothing to take with them and neither did she. They would make it to the city by midday.
She could start again. A fresh start. No baggage. She could finally let go of John, of her anger that weighed her down for so long.
She was taken out her thoughts when Regina stormed back into the room fully awake making the Assassin stare as she made her was back to her vanity.
"You didn't go through with it" Amelia greeted the woman as the Queen threw out her hand towards the redhead releasing her from her place as she was free to move her legs.
"You were right" she answered her old partner in a more cheerful tone "The sleeping curse wasn't the answer. As you said, I just needed to find something to live for"
"And you found it?" a relieved smile graced the Assassin's face at the news "What?"
"The one thing I haven't had in a very long time" Regina said with a wide grin towards the redhead "Someone to destroy"
The smile fell from the her face as she the sentence. An endless cycle. I was never going to end.
"Congratulations" she dully drawled out before she turned to leave the Queen to her plans she didn't want to be involved to any of it. She was done with vengeance.
"Wait" Regina called out to her making her stop "Isn't this something you've wanted again?"
"Haven't you figured it yet Regina? I'm tired of vengeance, it doesn't solve anything" she tells the Queen.
"You only say that because you were able to find yours" she angrily retorts at the assassin "You can't blame me for darkening your heart forever" she says turning her back on the assassin.
"Look at me Regina" she starts in almost a whisper "-I can barely sleep and when I do I'm plagued with dreams full of them, and when I'm awake I'm constantly reminded of what I did to them. I was so consumed by the darkness I didn't even remember why I started in the first place"
"In the week's before the curse I was trying to save you from it, but it was too late for the both of us. The curse breaking was my second chance and I'm not letting it go to waste because you have someone new to destroy. I am not risking myself slipping back into the Widow for anyone" at that the Queen's let the tears roll down her face as the redhead turned her back on her to leave her for good.
She needed to stop her. Now before it was too late for them.
"I didn't send it!" she suddenly exclaims trying to get the assassin to stay, it worked as the assassin froze at the door "I didn't send the letter to Claudius. You have to believe me"
The elephant in the room finally let out an almighty roar at the Queen's admission, they hadn't said a word since she showed the Queen the letter that sealed her fate in the pawn shop. Slowly the redhead turned around as she thought about what the woman had to say for herself.
The only problem was that she no longer believe the woman across the room anymore. Every time she's given her a chance it's been thrown back in her face.
"I don't" the redhead tells her calmly "because I know for a fact it's exactly something you would do" she turns to leave again only for her voice to stop her again.
"Don't!" She knows if she allows the woman to leave, there's a chance she won't ever return "Please don't leave me"
Amelia turned on her spot seeing the heartbroken look on the Queen's face "You were wrong earlier"
The dark brunette's face scrunched in confusion "About what?"
"About not having someone to wake you up" she told the Queen "I would have" at that Amelia turned and left the Queen to her plan.
Her escape from this pit would be easier than she thought.
The castle was theirs. But the Wicked Witch was a larger threat then she had thought. She was actually Regina's older half-sister that Cora had abandoned to go onto marrying into wealth.
This also meant Amelia was in deeper shit than she was this morning.
Upon leaving Regina she wandered through the castle into the courtyards in the cool night and looked onto the horizon. She could see the crossroads that led to her home. She could just leave. Go to the crypt and walk out the same way she did.
This time alone.
There was nothing stopping her from sneaking out. "Lia" Snow called out to the red head after almost searching the whole palace for her
"Shit" she cursed to herself quietly
"Amelia what are you doing out here, it's getting late"
"I'm...thinking, just leave me alone Snow" she tells the Princess not looking back
"Lia, please come inside" the Assassin stayed silent at the Princess's request as she stared out into the distance she knew where Monteriggioni was, as it finally dawned on her what the redhead was thinking of doing "You're not staying. Are you?" Snow realised
"This place was never my home Snow" the redhead told the younger woman "As soon as I can I'll be heading back to Monteriggioni"
Silently the Princess joined the Assassin at the railing
"How do you do it?" Amelia suddenly asks her making the younger woman look at her "After all this time how can you forgive her for everything she's done to you. She killed your father, sent you in exile from the only home you knew. She cursed us for 28 years. How can you stand to be in the same room as her let alone live in the same castle?"
"Amelia what's this about? What happened on the way here?"
Amelia reached into the pocket of her robe and took out the letter Romeo had given to her on Neverland handing it to the Princess "A parting gift to my father from our Mentor before he drove a Dream-shade covered blade into him""
Snow recognized the letter that Amelia held out to her, she had only seen it one in her whole life and now it was back. Taking the letter from the redhead the Princess saw the purple wax seal that once sealed the fateful letter closed.
"Regina wrote it, informing him of Romeo's treason. This letter sealed both mine and Romeo's fate years before I found her again. This is why I can't stay. She sent this letter out of anger for trying to help her all those years ago"
"Amelia s-she couldn't have known" she stammered in fear
"It could have only been her. The only people that knew of my true parentage were your parents. I don't know how exactly she found out but she did it anyway. She ruined my life. And now she's hell bent on destroying another. I can't let her drag me down with her again. I can't go down that path again. I don't think I'd come out the same again"
"I understand, but she's changed, you've changed. You can't leave, not now"
"I can, and you can't stop me" at that the redhead turned and headed back into the castle leaving the letter in Snow's hands. Amelia had truly given up on her.
Present
At the end of the hectic day the hero's of Storybrooke including Regina and Hook gathered outside the loft where Henry currently was as they tried to make sence of the day's events and figure out who had really brought them back to the land of no magic.
"They are being turned into flying monkeys?" Mary Margaret questioned her husband and Hook
"Yes, he took a simian form with a pair of wings" Hook added
"Did you think this is what happened to the missing dwarfs, too?" she asked her husband
"It would explain why we haven't found any traces of them" the former Prince answered her.
"And Neal?" Emma asked her Dad hopeful to find Henry's father.
"No sign of him, either. So, yeah, it's possible"
"Wouldn't be the first flying monkey I've dated" she commented.
"The person who escaped our trap disappeared in cloud of green smoke. And now, there are flying monkeys in this town? I think we know exactly who cursed us" Regina says to the group.
"The Wicked Witch of the West?" Emma voiced Regina nodded "Seriously? She's real, too?"
"Says the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming" Hook pointed out to the blonde.
"I don't get it" Emma states shaking her head "It's not like we're in Kansas. Why would the Wicked Witch of the West wanna come to Storybrooke?"
"There's something else" David voiced making the woman look at him "Its Lia, we think she's lost a lot more memories than just the past year"
"Aye" Hook started "We asked the Widow what the last thing she remembered before waking up here"
"She told us she was on a beach, watching the Godspeed disappear into the water" David repeated for the group. Hook let out a quiet sigh of relief that the Prince hadn't mentioned to the other's about his presence at the worst moment of her life. He had time at least, to convince the woman once again that he wasn't the man that had a part in ruining her life.
While Hook was thinking about his near mess a look of confusion etched his Mary Margaret's and her daughter face while Regina went quiet as she realized how much time she was missing.
"Regina?" Emma asked the brunette seeing her expression "You wanna fill us in"
"The Godspeed was the ship she had with her late Husband John Smith and their young son" she explained to the group "It was sunk when her Brotherhood past caught up with her. Losing them both put her on her path to vengeance"
"And then find you" Emma finished. Regina nodded agreeing with Emma
"What does this mean?" Mary Margaret asked her
"This Wicked Witch hasn't just taken the last year from her" Regina started "She's taken the years she became the Black Widow"
