***All characters are over the age of eighteen***
Author's Note: Voldemort died when Harry was a baby and was never resurrected, so, no war, this story takes place in their last year at Hogwarts a few weeks before their graduation.
"So… Do we have a chance, Daphne? Will we be able to stop Harry Potter tomorrow?" Asked a woman with dark hair dressed in green school clothes.
She was asking this question to a long-haired blonde woman who was sitting in the high seats of a place that seemed to be like a stadium but at a smaller scale like it was made for amateur events.
Daphne didn't answer her friend's question, and there was a good reason for her to not do it, she was completely fixated on something that was happening in front of her in the middle of an arena.
A raven-haired wizard with glasses was sitting on his broom in the middle of the air, but he wasn't alone, it seemed like he was about to fight a whole quidditch team, and the members of that team were surprisingly wearing the same uniform as him, anyone would be intimidated by the sight but the dark-haired wizard was in the opposite state, he was smirking.
He had a look full of confidence, he looked as if nothing could bother him right now, and that's why these two women who were looking at him were wearing such angry expressions.
"That's what I'm trying to figure out Pansy, let's watch this Gryffindor practice to see if we can figure out a strategy for tomorrow's game," the blonde finally spoke as Pansy joined her friend as she sat next to her.
These two women are currently in their last year of education at Hogwarts and they are part of the quidditch team of Slytherin, the blonde's name is Daphne and she's a chaser, she's the current captain of the team while Pansy is a seeker, so, for Pansy is important to take a closer look to the wizard with glasses.
Soon the sound of a whistle was heard in the place and a golden small ball with wings rose in the air, and the wizard with glasses was about to chase that ball, but he was quickly stopped by the people who were in front of him, but that didn't last for too long as he gracefully avoided the rest of his teammates.
But his friends didn't just remain in their brooms without trying anything to stop him, soon, they started to chase him around the pitch and it didn't take too long for them to start throwing harmless spells at Harry with the intent of stopping him.
Those were the rules, this was a test for the whole team, they were trying to test their abilities when it came to stopping the other team but also, this was important for Harry so he could polish his abilities as a seeker, he had to focus on not getting hit by his team's hexes nor the balls that they were throwing at him.
It's not as easy as it looks because the dark-haired wizard also needs to concentrate to keep himself in the air, soon, his team stopped working together so they could attack Harry independently, he avoided various spells that were being thrown at him, and he punched a ball that was going straight towards his face and he did all this while never losing the sight of the golden ball he's supposed to catch.
"Come on, show me something, show me a weakness!" Pansy complained as she watched his teammates failing at catching him, and then, they decided to circle him in the air.
"Now!" Screamed a red-haired wizard and soon everyone attacked Harry.
And they thought that they finally got him, but suddenly, Harry did something that they weren't expecting, before the spells and balls hit him, he decided to jump from his broom, not only to escape from their attacks but also because it was the perfect chance to catch the golden snitch that was under them and before he reached the ground his broom was already in position for him to just fall and sit on it.
Not even their teammates could believe what just happened, his sense of danger disappeared the moment the snitch was liberated on the field, and he was proving once again why he was considered the best quidditch player in centuries.
"No way… I can't fucking believe it!" Pansy complained as she looked at the scene with frustration.
And Daphne felt no different from her friend, she gulped at the sight while her eyes were wide open.
"It's over, we have no chance," said the blonde in a low tone that was full of defeat.
You see, tomorrow's going to be the match that's considered a quidditch derby in this school, Gryffindor vs Slytherin is considered the most intense and fierce match of the year even though Slytherin has been shit since Harry Potter joined this school.
Many Slytherins claim that they hate Harry because he defeated the strongest necromancer in decades, someone who was from their own house and who was going to make magical Britain great again, he was stopped by the baby form of Harry James Potter so it makes sense for the people of Slytherin to hate on him for that reason.
However, Daphne knows that the real reason why Harry Potter is hated by her housemates is because ever since he joined the school, Slytherin has never been able to win a match against Gryffindor, and it's all thanks to Harry Potter.
Before he joined this school, Slytherin used to dominate the quidditch pitch by winning nine of ten tournaments in a decade, but that stopped the moment Harry entered this school.
A prodigy in the dark arts and potions, but most of all, a prodigy in quidditch especially in the seeker position, the only match where he wasn't able to catch the snitch was during his third year when his now exonerated godfather escaped from Azkaban and there were many dementors in school, and not even with that they were able to defeat Gryffindor because the match was stopped with Gryffindor being the winners with fifty points of difference.
Daphne and Pansy joined the Slytherin team around that time in their third year, and now while they were already adults and with the graduation closer as there were only a few weeks left of the semester, they couldn't help but feel bad knowing that not once they were able to defeat Gryffindor and the worst thing is that they know they're not going to defeat them in their last year.
This is specially frustrating for Daphne because this was her first and last year as the captain, she wanted to at least give Slytherin the glory of defeating their greatest rival, but judging by the looks of it, it looks like there's not going to be a victory this time too.
"How does he do it? He probably has a trick to cheat!" Pansy complained with complete frustration.
"He's a genius, that's the only explanation I have for that, his senses are out of this world," Daphne said with a serious expression. "There's a reason why even major quidditch teams have made offers for him already despite being still in school," the blonde added before she got on her feet.
"What do we do now?" Asked Pansy completely angry about this.
Somehow the other team always manages to defeat them, but the thing that makes Pansy hate this situation more is the fact that Harry Potter always humiliates her team, it was as if he had a sixth sense, and she was starting to believe those rumors saying that he got powers from defeating the dark lord when he was a baby.
"Let's get out of here, let's think about a better way to stop this," Daphne stared at her best friend for a few moments before nodding.
Soon they were taking a walk in the hallways.
"I guess we better give up and accept that there's no way we'll defeat him… My stepfather was right, I'm a failure," Pansy sighed.
Daphne didn't say anything, she just placed a hand on her best friend's shoulder before hugging her.
"You're not a failure… Do you understand that?" Asked the blonde with a soft expression.
People rarely see her acting like that, but when it comes to her friends, she's capable of showing a soft side reserved only for the special people in her heart.
Pansy smiled and blushed due to her friend's words, their faces were so close while they were smiling and looking at each other, soon, they started to bite their lower lips and little by little, they were getting their lips close to each other and they were about to kiss but suddenly they were interrupted by the sound of a completely tired Gryffindor team in the hallway, they seemed satisfied with today's training.
This made the two women flinch and feel embarrassed by what they were about to do, so, they quickly separated to not make things more awkward.
"Come, on let's get back to our dorms, we tried our best, let's just pray we're not getting obliterated by them in tomorrow's match," Daphne told her best friend, and the two of them were trying to forget about this embarrassing moment.
Pansy nodded violently but she also hated herself at the same time feeling like she should've kissed her best friend, it's not like they are dating or anything like that but it shouldn't surprise anyone if that happens considering their backstory.
They met when they were practically toddlers who just started to notice reality, and ever since that day they've been getting closer and closer, their families are close as they have a lot of common friends and businesses something normal considering that they're both from the same social circle.
They got in the same house after entering Hogwarts and that was expected of the two of them, they became part of the quidditch team as the first female players in a very long time, It's not like it's forbidden for women to play quidditch but sadly this is something more encouraged to boys in their social circle, thankfully Daphne's father always encouraged them to get involved in the sport.
They've been through a lot and that's something that has caused these two friends to start having deeper feelings for the other, feelings different from a friendship, but neither of them wants to admit their feelings as they don't want to ruin this long-lasting friendship.
Soon they reached the Slytherin dorms in complete silence, yes, it was awkward but it wasn't the end of the world, luckily the moment they got inside the rooms they found a brown-haired witch sitting on a table, she looked younger than them, it didn't take too long for them to join her in the table, the girl was reading a newspaper and she suddenly stopped before smiling at them.
"Hey Astoria," Pansy said.
"Hey Tori," Daphne said.
"Daphne… Pansy… What's with the long faces?" Asked Astoria with a worried expression.
"Nothing impressive to be honest, we were watching the Gryffindor practice to catch some hidden weakness they could have to defeat them but…" Pansy started.
"We found nothing," Daphne said bluntly with a serious expression.
Soon Pansy's face became serious too, they remained in silence for a few moments, they were desperate, there was no hope for them, and they felt as if they'd already lost before the match even started.
"I wouldn't be so worried if I were you," Astoria said calmly as the two senior witches stared at her with confusion.
Astoria smiled at them.
"Look!" Astoria showed them the first page of the newspaper she was reading.
"Gone… It seems like Potter and Delacour have broken up!" Daphne read with a serious expression.
Ever since they were caught by the press walking together in Diagon Alley, a rumor about Harry Potter dating the daughter of the magical French minister suddenly kept the female population of the magical world with their hearts broken.
"They broke up…But how does this benefit us?" Asked Pansy as she scratched the back of her head.
Suddenly Daphne sealed her mouth with a hand, and the blonde was smirking, it was obvious she planning on doing something interesting with this information they got.
