Chapter 3, The Night of Crying
Once we had finished constructing our mud-bunker for the night, it was already dark, so we got in our individual rooms with the intent to sleep. That… didn't last long though. Chespin started crying because he has been away from his plushie too long, at least that's what I assume he's crying about. We don't judge him, I know we are 17-18, but we all sleep with a plushie from time to time, so we're pretty understanding of it.
Apparently Pikachu wasn't having it though, he kinda… snapped.
This, was our second trial. Trial by The Night of Crying.
"WILL YOU SHUT UP?" Pikachu shouted before I could even rush to comfort Chespin. This only made Chespin more upset.
"That's not an okay thing to say right now Pikachu," I mentioned, trying to hold back my anger. Who the hell does Pikachu think he is telling Chespin to shut up when he obviously needs comforting? I got into Chespins room and supported myself by standing on my back legs. To do so I had to put my front legs on the ceiling. Being a Mudkip sucks sometimes, I don't have hands like Pikachu and Chespin, just 4 paws.
Anyway, I tried to help Chespin, "Hey, what's wrong?" He didn't say anything, I sorta expected that.
"Yeah, it is okay for me to say that. You dumb fools are always crying about something, always telling me to be quiet, always ignoring me," Pikachu hostiley argued, "I won't take it anymore."
"You never cared before, why do you care now?" I aggressively replied, "and we never intend to annoy you, we just can't be loud during the exam, you know thi-" He cut me off, awesome.
"I care now because you two have been especially annoying today."
"Did you even listen to what I said?" I shouted as I climbed down into the shared space, slumping on the floor, "Remember the year 2 exams?" I reasoned, "We were just 8 year old boys collecting apples and hiding from the forest zombies. That's all we've been doing today and yesterday, except we didn't run from our problems; we faced them, I mean look at you, you're covered in vines and sticks to help you walk when all of the bones in your body are broken."
Pikachu followed me into the shared space.
"Not every bone stupid, my feet are not braced," he deflected.
"You're missing the point," I reminded, "What I mean is you can't be telling Chespin to shut up, because we are older than that. I guess the analogy I used referred to how back when we were little we were taught to avoid the enemies of the forest, but now that we are year 12 students, we are taught to face our enemies in combat."
"What enemies?" Pikachu deflected again, "we haven't actually fought anything this exam so far."
"That's out of sheer luck, but we did fight Goomys poison, we fought the burn on our hands, you could even argue that we fought our hunger when we ate."
"That's not fighting," Snarked Pikachu, "That's just normal stuff. Also back when we were that young all our problems were just my asshole parents, and the school giving us detention. Both of which are perfectly solvable problems by running away from them. There is no need to face anything."
"If you never face your problems you'll be running your whole life," I Insisted.
"What's wrong with that? We've just been running away this whole Exam," Pikachu responded, yet again missing the point.
"Uh, not really…" I passive aggressively replied.
"Uh, yeah really, We were in a completely part of the forest when I woke up this morning," He defended. I didn't say anything, "So you just lied through your teeth when you said you don't run from your problems didn't you? You ran away from that fallen tree last night didn't you?"
"I was scared, I had to get us out of there," I whimpered.
"I guess the fact that you brought us with you proves that you at least have the slightest bit of courage, but it's still pretty pathetic that you would lie about something like that. You are not a confident person Matthew, you just freeze up in tense situations."
"But when I saved-"
"'But when I saved Goomy,'" he mocked, "You wouldn't have saved him if it weren't for me bringing you out from your daydreams."
"I wasn't daydreaming Pikachu, I was panicking, you know that."
"I don't know man, seemed like you were daydreaming to me," Pikachu provoked as he passive aggressively shrugged his shoulders.
Just then something unexpected happened.
Chespin came flying down into the shared space yelling, "Shut the fuck up right the fuck now, both of you!"
"Excuse me?" Pikachu fumed. Chespin was pissed, he punched Pikachu square in the face knocking him out, then turned to me. Uh Oh. I put my hands up in a defensive position but didn't say anything, then I too got punched square in the face and knocked out.
When I woke up I didn't have my glasses on, I had no idea what time it was, but I was still in the shared room. I got up and reached for my bag, maybe my glasses were in there? Oh no, my bag wasn't there either. I paced around for a bit then found my glasses on the floor, shattered and broken. What?
Then It hit me, last night. I had gotten so heated I forgot about Chespin, poor Chespin. He must have broken my glasses when he punched me. Oh well, It's not like I can't see without them, the world is just less sharp.
At any rate I needed to look for Pikachu and Chespin, as neither of them were in the mud-bunker.
I went outside and was immediately blasted by the bright sun. The two of them were laughing and conversing while sitting on the ground. In front of them were all the items necessary to pass the Exam, including my bag.
"H-hey Guys." I nervously greeted.
"Hi," Pikachu replied, "Don't worry about last night. I forgave you once I found a little case of serum this morning labeled 'Pikachu's Pain Medication.' And there were two of them. So I guess you aren't running from your problems. I'm sorry for getting in your face."
"And I'm sorry for punching your face," Chespin laughed, we both laughed with him, "But seriously, it was an instant regret moment, once I realized I hurt my friends and broke your glasses, I cried. So I'm sorry."
"I forgive you, both of you. And I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have drawn out the argument for so long." they forgave me, "How did you two get all the list items so fast though?"
"We found a group that had been rescued and left their items behind, so we took those items and found the rest nearby," Pikachu answered.
"That's good, let's head to the school then!"
"Yeah!" They both exclaimed.
